Single phantom touch on digitizer (that doesn't move) - Transformer TF300T Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The "show touches" option allowed me to find out why I had some trouble with the digitizer since yesterday. It is not cracked.
There is a single point on the screen showing a touch at all times. If I touch that point, it disappears then comes back 1-2 seconds later.
The digitizer still works as it registers my touches as well, but a lot of apps cannot register more than one touch at a time, so they ignore my touches.
I read somewhere that doing a hard reset (completely wiping everything) would re-initialize the digitizer and make it ignore that stuck point, but I don't want to do that if that's not correct as I'd have to reinstall everything, re-do my settings and still have to figure out how to fix the stuck point.
Or is there an app that can make the tablet ignore that one little touch.

edit - I realized that when I wrote "FIXED" in the title, it sounds like I solved my issue. What I mean is that the single phantom touch is not moving, it's in a fixed position (unlike most phantom touch problems seen on other tablets)

First I'd edit the post (advanced edit) and removed fixed from the title - you should get more help.
Factory reset - Settings/Backup & reset is where I'd begin. There are no promises that will fix your tablet.
To minimize the grief of a reset use App Backup in the app drawer. Choose Data & App - select all - backup - and copy file to /Removable/MicroSD - OK
Restore with App Backup only works on the same version the tablet was on when the backup was made!
I don't know what the next step would be if your problem is not cleared.

I edited it now. I tried when I first posted, but I didn't remember the advanced edit option for the title
Thanks for the trick on restoring my tablet. I'll try the hard reset.
If that doesn't work. I will be taking apart the tablet and see if I can re-seat the digitizer.
I already replaced it once. This time it isn't cracked, but I know it fell a foot down just before the problem started. It was in it's case, so it was a soft landing on its flat surface. I'm surprised those things are so fragile. Asus should feel bad.

I think reset is the proper place to begin with the problem you're having.
A couple of things to consider.
Did the spot immediately appear at the time you replaced the digitizer?
Did you take an update that may have caused the spot to appear?
The above are just my thoughts, not actual questions and may not prove helpful.
I have dropped my tablet a couple of times with no noticeable damage.
Good Luck!

The problem only appeared 2 months after I replaced the digitizer.
I didn't update
Anyway, since I already had my tablet setup to flash the touchscreen firmware in order to use a different TS, I simply ran the flashing procedure again. It fixed the problem in seconds
I admit that if my tablet wasn't already setup (unlocked, rooted, superuser access), it would have been faster to reformat (if that would have fixed the problem).
TL;DR - Problem solved, I flashed the touchscreen firmware to force it to reset instead of formatting my tablet back to factory settings.

Can software affect screen alignment?

Hi,
I recently purchased a QTEK S110, after a couple of weeks I noticed that the screen was losing alignment (very noticeable with such a small screen). Eventually I sent it back to the supplier for a repair as it was getting unusable. When I got it back I restored my last saved backup and the record button wouldn't work and the alignment seemed to be going again!
I tried a hard reset and then re-installed from scratch, my question is twfold:
1: could my backup (or some installed program) have affected the screen alignment (appeared to be worse in the bottom right hand corner)
2: are HTC screens generally well behaved?
Thanks.
highly doubt that software can cause screen to misalign but stranger things have happened. is it ok now that you have hard reset and reinstalled everything?
Hi,
No, it's still the same, every day or so it drifts off to the left so that, for example if I press the x to exit a program I actually get the activesync or time icons!
I am awaiting info from the supplier re a repair/replacement.
Darren.
hi,
sorry to tell you this is not a software problem my freind had the same with is magician and we tried everything we tried all the ROM's we even tried not to install any programs not even the ext rom files but no luck so at last he got his device replaced.
my advice if you have your under warrenty go and replace it.
I think it could be software
I have had this problem before. I avoided some of the apps I used to use and I think it has stopped. I think it was the latest version of MultilE and happened when I used full screen mode in landscape. If it conies back I will return the phone.

Digitizer/Screen issue

A friend brought me a good one today. He has an AT&T Touch Pro with a touch screen issue.
He brought me the phone months ago and I flashed the ROM. All was good. He then deleted a bunch of files one night accidentally and hard booted the phone in an attempt to get the files back. Upon hard reboot the phone hung at the calibration screen and he could not get past that. To describe, the screen calibration works on 3 of the 4 corners, if you hold the press the stylus to the screen quite firmly, but the top right corner will not calibrate however long I told the stylus to the screen.
He brought it to me today and I figured that a fresh ROM would resolve the issue. So I loaded a new ROM and the phone hung again at screen calibration. So I did some research and found a "welcome.not" work around to get us past the screen calibration issue. This was successful and I was able to get us to the home screen.
The issue is that the screen is very unresponsive and I have flashed the device so it's not a ROM flash issue. Is there a driver he might have accidentally deleted that is not reinstalled on a ROM flash? I know I am probably grasping at straws here but I thought this community might have some insight to what the issue is.
I have also considered the idea that I may need to replace the digitizer for this phone if that is the issue and am prepared to do so but thought I would throw this question out to the community for any tips/tricks or ideas you may have before cracking the case on this thing.
Thanks for your help in advance.
--Mike
Oh and I forgot to mention that sometimes the screen works if you tap it continuously but most times, there is no response.

Moved as not ROM Development.
Hey Mike, same issue over here.I couldn't find any solutions so far.By the way, what's that "welcome.not" thing?
Well, after some google search i ended up with this.http://bittangents.com/2008/10/28/removing-welcome-message-doctors-appointment-on-pocket-pc-2003/

The calibration of the screen
IWPantel - Thanks for referring to my blog
To stop the welcome message, you need to put the Welcome.NOT in the root of a sd card or of the device. I don't believe this is your issue, however.
There are typically three reasons why the screen will become unresponsive.
#1 You have a bad touchscreen. Assuming that the screen was working perfectly, I highly doubt this is your issue.
#2 You are calibrating the screen with the stylus straight up. Believe it or not, the touch point changes if you are straight up and down, or if you have the stylus as if you are writing. The angle will affect the touch point.
#3 You have a conflicting .reg file in the Application or Platform directory of the handheld. The calibration settings are stored in the device's registry and they need to be updated. If you did a persistant registry tweak (where it exports the registry into NV ram, the calibration settings will overwrite the calibration settings you create on system startup.
Feel free to contact me with any questions.

Brent, I had the same problem here! My Fuze simply stopped responding to my touchs....
#1 Taking this as true
#2 I tried a hard reset, but nothing happens. I can not touch the screen to calibrate
#3 I just can not understand what you proposed.
Please, help me!
I don`t know why, but my cell just back to normal!
Now it's everything working!
@brentblawat - How come you are a Junior Member when your answer is so hardcore.
Anyhows, I have the same problem with my phone, I have tried all the software tricks I could think of. I guess your point 3 asks us to manually enter the calibration data in registry. Have tried it doesnt work.
I cant replace the hardware as I have Tmobile MDA and I dont get the spare parts for this here. the digitizer is different from the one in Touch pro.

[Q] Touch the display to go haywire

Welcome. Well, my problem is this, my touch screen not functioning periodically. This means that every once in a short time starts to go crazy, so I tapne something and here start something else. It was as if someone touched me in different places display and use that make my job has become impossible. I downloaded some miracle Touch Visualiser, which showed me that they are in different times, two or even three fingers placed on the screen, although it was not touched ... still turns me something inadvertently, or something not quite touching and I see to highlight that if someone had touched, and turns on .. Does anyone know what fault is it? Why is this happening? What can I do about this? Waiting for quick response and thank you in advance
Remove your screen guard and check if your problem persists.
But i haven't screen guard..... its impossible, because sometimes when it has locked the phone up and for a moment it was good

I am not sure if you understood me previously but I meant scratch guard.
If you don't have one then there could be many reasons for the same, try these steps and see if it helps:
* Check your touchscreen, put this code (*#0*#) => Touch => Run your fingers over the grid of boxes.
* Make a backup of all your data & factory reset your handset.
Do update on the progress.
There is no scratch guard. And what about? Sometimes I can perform this test, but sometimes it is not because the line that I draw, she turns and appears in different places, and sometimes the phone just does not respond to touch, does a black screen and locks up. Already restored to factory settings, did not help...

Which country are you from buddy ?
Try flashing your stock ROM back using to your device, if still doesn't help take your device to the service center as it could be a hardware problem.
I'm Polish, I apologize for my English ok, I'll take it to the site, I have a warranty card. Thank you

[Q] Ghost touches (especially in dock) with TF700t. How to fix this?

I had issues with my Asus TF700t that quite often it did not react on touch gestures.
And on the home screen the "change backround" dialog opened sometimes without any touch on the device.
This happend very very often when it was in the dock, but also without the dock (less occurence).
Now i know that the reason are ghost touches. By the usage of touch test apps (e.g. "Simple Touchscreen Tester" oder "Yet Another MultiTouch Test") i realized the ghost touches.
This touches are recognized always on the same coordinates. The multitouch test app detects 4 fingers on the same y-axis.
When the tab is in the dock and i open it completely to the maximum the two bolts from the dock are pressing very strong to the background of the screen glass. This is causing the ghost touches.
I opened the tab and tried to find what could be wrong (especially on the area where the touches are detected).
Anyhow i could not find anything. The only thing i noticed was the on the y-axis of the ghost touches the screen is fixed on the left and the right.
I check everything else closed the case ... but the ghost touches are still present.
Any idea how to fix the issue??? Who else realized the same issue???
Attached some screen shots from the touch test apps.

Another TF700T here that just returned from RMA with digitizer repair. Went very smoothly for me and I have a TF700T that again works extremely well.
Do they replace parts or just recalibration? Is it possible to so this myself?
I have unlocked bootloader and i do not know if they will repair it without any problem. Any experience on this?
Hi,
First, sorry for my english...
Second, I have same problem since saturday 24 august with my TF700T. Buy november 2012.
I tried to updated to android 4.2 But it didn't solve my pb.
I try "Multi Touch test" app and I observed same problem than mr_cg. Thanks for your good description "Ghost touch"

If you are root, you can perhaps try this app:
ILITEK Touch Utility
or
(less chance i think, it did for S2,S3) TouchScreenTune
Me i am not root, but if it is working for you, perhaps i will try to be.
Thanks for your help

Thanks for the hint. I tried the apps, but both do not solve my issues.
ILITEK ... descriptions sounds good, but unfortunately not working (i get always "access denied" even i have root for sure).
TouchScreenTune ... Based on description it should be also good tool to reduce/improve situation with ghost touches. Anyhow ... it is not working with TF700t.
I am just thinking if i should open the case again???
If with root permissions you don't find solution ... I think i should call Asus support for my first RMA..
snif snif.
Thanks for your return. I win a lot of time.
Same issue
I'm having the same issue here, but only when docked. Seems like I'll stop using the dock since I am out of waranty because I unlocked the bootloader ...:S
I've been having a similar issue very badly on the right side of my screen, it was practically unusable. I am also out of warranty because I'm unlocked. What I did to make it at least somewhat usable was go into the build prop and change my max touch screen events from 200 to 4, and changed my touch sensitivity from .001 to 1 (this setting may have only been available on CROMI. Anyway, now my touchscreen doesn't work on the right side, however it does work everywhere else, and most importantly I can still use the tab as a laptop in its dock. It's a bumm it doesn't work right, but it's better than a total loss!
Sorry guys, it is a failed design problem due to connection to the touch screen. see my post in the "so i took it apart" thread.
Cost me a ruined lcd screen to figure it out

What a great thread! Thanks, I've posted this elsewhere but having just send my TF700 back to ASUS I now have a pretty good idea of what might have been wrong with it. Here's what I posted and what I've told them anyway. I've overlooked the Ghost touches unfortunately, so I will let them know that (if they don't already)......any comments welcome...
Asus Transformer S/N D20KAS016975
I've struggled with this tablet since purchase in April this year, not being at all familiar with tablets I did not know whether it was just me, the general setup, or the tablet itself at fault. Most certainly the performance is not satisfactory. I have done three 'Factory Resets' and numerous Soft Resets.
Intermittently, the tablet will scroll and flash through various apps, when I open it. Originally File Manager would open itself up, then I got the feeling the Weather app would upset things. Sometimes a browser would make it do the same. Then I tried various Launchers, but the best of them (I think) sometimes shows the menu unannounced. Same thing, on and off until I intervene.
It is also prone to do this just sitting open by itself.
Clearing the caches sometimes fixes this. Sometimes this will stop by itself, other times I need to either close the lid, press the lock button, or turn it off. Then it will be OK.
At times Gmail will scroll randomly through the accounts, messages, labels etc.
Every browser I've tried will sometimes shut itself off, especially if I try to type something into a message box, usually when I've spent some time doing this!
Occasionally I can feel a slight tingling sensation when I'm lightly touching the back of the screen.
One other thing: When left overnight the mouse doesn't work and the tablet needs to be turned off and on again for the mouse to work. I also think the screen doesn't turn off sometimes (can see a light).
At other times the whole thing works just fine.
Hope this helps.

Grant

Grant,
Was your tablet still under warranty? Did they charge anything? I wonder if they redesigned the digitizer connection or just put a new screen which will wear out as well. The digitizer connector runs along the bottom left of tablet screen. Same area is being pressed when you close dock, which wears it out.
You can go to developer settings and enable "show touches" (lowers tablet performance) then press on the bottom left edge of the screen, roughly 1/3 point of its length, and see if you get the ghosts to appear.

Yes, still under warranty (problem was there from day 1 although I didn't realise it at the time) and no charge. See attached pdf Customer report. Shows replacement Led panel, & controller board. No sign of ghost touches so far, and really working well actually. Early days yet, but I also note elsewhere in these forums someone mentioned their tablet not working properly 'upside down'. I neglected to mention it earlier but upside down isn't as funny as his respondents made out. I use mine often lying on the couch watching TV, with the tab upside down. Reason I mention it now is that mine acted up in those circumstances too. Anyway, that's fixed too.

Keyboard no longer working properly.

Today my keyboard decided to no longer use the I key in default view. This is odd because calibrating the keyboard allowed me to use the I key. After calibration finished, it went back to no longer working. I've cleaned my screen protector, and when pressing I, it "clicks" both the u and o key at the same time. This not only affects the keyboard, but in some other instances will not allow me to click a small icon, such as setting in the drop down menu. I've since done a factory reset and even flashed a new rom to no avail. The only possibility is there is a small half bubble at the top edge near the camera, and will have ghost armour replace it if I cannot find a cause as to why this happened. Any suggestions as what I could try?

It's a long shot, I don't know how often you update through GooglePlay, or if you even do... I do know that a version of webview made my phone do the same thing, it had dead spots on the screen but only when my keyboard was up in default SMS. I had the same the problems as you, buttons on the other side of the keyboard were being pressed & it was selecting drop down menus to save the text above, copy, etc... I found out the version of webview I had was bad, I know you did a factory reset, but maybe it restored the same the bad version?!?!? Try updating it if possible, or uninstalling updates for that app. It may just work....
Unfortunately it didn't work. In installed updates and tried freezing with tibu. To no avail. Called HTC and all they want to do is me sending phone in for repair. I don't like this option
What carrier do you have the phone through if any at all??

Yeah, sorry about that, i wouldn't be happy about that either. I was wondering if you had a phone carrier, if so which one. It seems as though you didn't buy it through them since you are in contact with HTC. I know HTC warranties your phone up to a year, but they should send a replacement in the meantime if you have to send it in Good Luck, sorry I couldn't be more help. If you have a phone carrier that you purchased it through such as Verizon, they would replace it right away as they have done for me about twice now:good:
