[Q] Yahoo login failure - Samsung Galaxy S Relay 4G

For the past month, I periodically get an error message - "Yahoo login failure"
This only happens on the T-Mobile network, not when I am on wi-fi.
Its not constant but happens often.
I'm running the stock Jelly Bean upgrade.
The error is in the stock Android email client version of Yahoo, not Yahoo's separate app.
Anyone else having this issue? Any ideas on the cure?

Lot of people are reporting the same issue. Apparently Yahoo has disabled access via 3rd party mail apps to promote their own mail client. They deny connections coming from mobile internet ISPs.

Thanks for clarifying that G. Its been driving me nuts. There's no way I'm adding a new app to my system, just to perform the work of built in email apps.
Especially with all the hassles users are reporting. I use Yahoo email a lot, but can easily switch over to Gmail in a heartbeat. Maybe I'll set Gmail to check
my yahoo email. Has anyone done this? Is this a decent work around.
Yahoo, if you are reading this, you are going to lose not gain users. There are too many better options.
You are becoming like "brain freeze" Nobody wants you.

Well I seem to be able to use the built in mail client for Yahoo if I am on wifi. its only when I am using the T-Mobile network that I cannot log in to Yahoo.

Change the APN. It worked for me.

Help setting up yahoo on TC

Just got my TC tonight and I cant put it down. I LOVE this device. Ive never had a WM phone before but have played with them without any desire to own one. Well I really like how much can be optimized and configured, and thats not even considering all the tweaks found here.
Anyway, my current issue is that I cant get my yahoo email to work. Now, it could be that Im coming from a Blackberry Curve so my phone package is the blackberry BIS. Would this inhibit me getting my email? If so, do I have to call up ATT tomorrow and get set up on the smartphone program instead?
The POP/IMAP email access requires a normal dataplan... After that the device can configure itself for the mail access (after you enter you email adrdess in the new account creation). But if you want better useability, and more security than you should configure it manually whith IMAP access... if Yahoo! supports it...

I like my BB Curve better. I guess I have way too many things against me as a Mac user also. Its a neat phone but not what I really want.
yahoo/gmail issues
I am having a weird problem. When connected over wifi, yahoo and google connect and download mail like you'd expect.
When connected to 3G or Gprs network google and yahoo fail to connect. The phone tries to make another connection, like it does not know there is already a data connection.
I know my data connection is good at 3G, because I surf the web all day...
Any ideas will be appreciated. Thanks.
Figured it out...
Had to uncheck the "use proxy" setting on the connection profile under "proxy"

[Q] Did VZW cripple stock MAIL app?

To sync with my company's ActiveSync server, I HAVE to check both "Use Secure Connection" and "Accept All SSL Certificates."
However, the latter choice is not appearing in my MAIL setup screen, ONLY the Use Secure Connection checkbox. As such I'm not given access to my work's mail server. I've seen it on almost every Android device... why would it be missing on TBolt?
Sorry... can an admin. please move this to the APPS topic?
Thanks!
I had that same issue and thought it was just me. I'm using Touchdown for now but would love to use the stock exchange one

:\ Once you have root, you could try replacing the mail app from a Sense rom that does have both of these options in the mail app.

Good idea... motivation for me rooting this bad boy.
I think I have only ever seen the "Use Secure Connection" and "Accept All SSL Certificates" options on the stock Android email app. The sense one only has the single checkbox.

No VZW had nothing to do with the mail app...
I am a bit confused by this. My exchange server shouldn't work with Android AT ALL... however due to HTC's ... how shall we say... engineering it works perfectly.
Wonder why you have to select all certificates...
How do we get HTML emails to show up on the stock app? All it gives me are text links.

Mine show up as HTML... not sure what is wrong on yours. Both GMail and Exchange are showing up fine.
I guess I just haven't found what I need to change in the setting yet then. I can be slow and special at times.
Ok, after more investigation, I have have realized that my exchange email is on plain text only, but... the option to change it is grayed out and unclickable. What am I doing wrong? I can't change the option from plain text, and I really don't like it.
It is crippled or at least modified
I'm pretty sure MAIL is crippled or at least modified. If you use MAIL to setup IMAP accounts, it will not let you specify an IMAP path prefix, which is a royal pain for me, since I can't view my sent emails without that IMAP path. That was one of the main reasons I jumped from WinMo to Android! Looks like I'll be rooting sooner than I thought (I've loved the Tbolt as-is until now)
On yours, does it have the option where it is suppose to allow you to check between html and plain text, grayed out? My personal email is fine, it's just the exchange email that is giving me fits. I can change the normal account. Oh, and html worked fine on my D2 with exchange.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
Set up fine here, both before and after root with the stock mail app that came with the phone. I do have the choice of HTML or Plain Text and neither is grayed out. I have only one choice for security and it says "This server requires an encrypted SSL connection" which is checked. My admin also pushes a security policy requiring a PIN or password after a 15 minute time out.
To get rid of the exchange security, and get both SSL check boxes, I installed this app.:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=775007
It doesn't work with the HTC message widget, but at least it gets you corporate email.
Have you tried telling it proceed? I had the same qualm, and I hit next and it prompted me to accept the certificate even though it was invalid.
Yeah, I have set up the account, and it works fine other than the fact that I can't get HTML emails in anything other than plain text. I go emailapp>menu>more>settings>send/receive>recieve settings and under receive settings the message format is grayed out and unselectable. I know it's not the server, because I had it setup fine on the D2. I have also tried deleting the account and starting over from the beginning, and it still does this. So I don't know what to do to fix it.
Any update on the HTML email issue? I'm rooted, so I can swap the native app with any other other Sense friendly app. It works well in Touchdown, but I prefer to use the native mail app -- it's much cleaner and well integrated. I just REALLY need to see HTML and graphics in my emails.
It used to be fine with my Droid X, so I know that it's not a server policy. It's just broken in the TBolt's native mail app.
thoughts?
I haven't really had the time to investigate further. I've just let it be for now. Semester will be over in two weeks, then I can look more into it.

Yahoo Mail Problems

Anyone else having problems with Yahoo mail syncing with the Das Bamf Sense 3 rom?
i'm also having trouble, and i've not rooted my tbolt yet.
My yahoo mail hasn't synced in three days. At first i thought i messed something up because i had just rooted my phone, however, it seems i am not alone with this problem. Sure wish a fix/solution was out there.

I thought I was the only one having a problem. I'm not rooted either. Totally stock.
I don't think it matters whitch ron, I had to download yahoo app to get mail. They changed something on imap

Yeah, I usually check my mail on my phone every morning (stock ROM, stock Mail app). This morning it wasn't showing any new emails (despite the fact that I get emails from Newegg every day). I thought it might be an LTE thing, but it wasn't working on wifi, either. I cleared all my data, deleted the account on the Mail app. Tried again, and it was telling me how many messages were on the server, but it wouldn't download any of them.
Later, I force quit Mail and cleared it's data. Now instead of presenting a variety of account options, I have just Microsoft Exchange and Other listed. I picked other, put in my credentials, and it keeps coming back with an Authentication failed message.
It could be a problem on Yahoo's end

i just tried their old pop settings also, with no better luck.
Count me as someone having a problem with this as well. I noticed it a week ago Saturday as I had just installed a new ROM and couldn't get Yahoo to sync.
Try this I've been using Mail and I think you might like it. Check it out from your Android phone:

Setting up IMAP on your mobile device To set up IMAP on your mobile device please use these settings:
Incoming Server -imap.mail.yahoo.com
Outgoing Server -smtp.mail.yahoo.com
Incoming Port -993 (requires SSL) Outgoing Port -465 (requires SSL/TLS)
Username: full email address (for example [email protected] or [email protected]) Password: the password you login to Yaho with. If you are having trouble setting up IMAP on your mobile device we recommend reviewing your phones instruction manual or contacting your mobile provider for support

I'm having trouble synching on my TB and my wife's Incredible. Is this a fluke or is yahoo blocking IMAP on purpose?
So this will only apply for Yahoo mail. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK
[1] Turn off SSL and use port 110
or
[2] Set incoming server to pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk port with SSL on 995
Yahoo has apparently a bad or expired certificate which is why people are seeing all types of errors like "Invalid Login" or when adding account "Unauthorized User please try your user name and password again" ect ect.
Again use at your own risk this was information from Yahoo support.

That solution is for POP email, not IMAP. Big difference.
With that being said, I have no solution for IMAP. Using POP you'll be able to get your mail, it just won't be "pushed" to your phone.
well it works with cm7
didn't notice. I like the yahoo mail app better. More features and notifications on new messages.
the yahoo mail app is great...it has push notifications
Seems like this is a universal problem amongst carriers and devices. I'm surprised there hasn't been any press about this.
I called Verizon they said yahoo is updating there system so I think that messed
with HTC settings some how I used the yahoo mail from the market place
earlier today and it works fine and I know stock android email also works
on my back up cm7 stock I'm looking for stock email apk that would work

I was told the same thing by verizon rep as well :/
- i just got my thunderbolt sat. and after my initial yahoo setup
using the htc email app, it worked great however I ended up
installing a bamf rom and since then it has never worked.
I'm only able to send but not receive
if you can find a stock email apk that works please update us
I would really appreciate it.
Ok I fixed mine. Easy!
Downloaded Yahoo mail from the market. Installed but I never opened it or used it. It somehow fixed the settings for my htc mail app for Yahoo.
My Yahoo mail now pushes like it did before!

[Q] Server search on Gmail doesn't work - says "can't connect"

I added the GMail account through Google option (haven't tried the POP and IMAP).
It syncs fine, but it doesn't do a server search. Whenever I try it, it returns an error saying that it can't connect to the network.
Anyone knows how to fix it?
P.S. And how come there is not even an option to do server search for Hotmail?
Additional data:
- I'm using Samsung Focus with Mango
- device is unlocked, but branded to AT&T (not sure if it has anything to do with Gmail)
- tried both on 3G and WiFi
Thanks!

I have the same problem. It was present in 7712 and still is in the retail release of 7720. I also have a Samsung Focus, but I doubt that is the cause. I'm considering deleting the Google account from the phone and adding it back, but I hate to have to relink all of the contacts whose names are different from Facebook. Considering how Google has blocked non-primary calendars for Windows Phone and their event/invitation implementation is somewhat broken with Windows Phone, it wouldn't surprise me to learn that server search is also a broken feature, whether intentional or not. Has anyone had any success re-creating the Google account on the phone?
i've noticed the same problem! I hope this is just an issue of me just setting up my account wrong

this is seriously annoying
I guess gmail wants us to go android, but I won't. I'm going to add another email account and suffer through. Fortunately for me I don't have a lot of important contacts with gmail.
I reported this to Microsoft a few weeks ago, and they are aware of the issue. I'm thinking it must be on Google's side. When labels come to Hotmail, I may just switch over entirely.

Stock email app issue

So I use the stock email app. But for some reason it loses authentication of all my accounts constantly. When it does it asks me to retype in the password. But it won't actually let me do it. When I click in the text box it just disappears. The only thing i have been able to do is delete the accounts and re add them. Anyone have a fix?
delete app data and retry email setting

use outlook for android, its a fantastic email program. i also like nine email
I think the stock email is the best email out there (except apples mail app on iOS). So I don't want to is another. But I have this problem too, or something similar. It's just stops syncing and the only way to get it to restart is to reboot or go to account settings and force a resync by going past 'enter password'.

I find it smoother and faster to work with than any of the third party packages. Just my opinion.

Actually I had the same problem with Outlook, which uses OSS authentication, what I did, it was to revoke all permission on my accounts, then clean the cache on the app.
Another way it's to use IMAP settings.
