Hello:
Anyone out there that fixed a broken SIM Tray on the Infuse? Can you please help me out and point me to a tutorial of some kind? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
In what way is it Broken?
Do you intermittently lose service (not registered on network) upon reboot?

Hi,
So sorry for the delay in my response. It is the problem with the pin. One of them came off when I removed the micro SIM with the adapter. I will get a good picture and upload.
Thanks again

I couldn't get a picture of my SIM but if you take the attached on as an example, the highlighted pin is broken.
Thanks

Mine almost broke when I had an adapter. Did it completely snap off, or is it still attached but pulled out?

It has completely snapped off. The first time this sort of a thing happened, the pin was still there and I was able to push it back again but this time, since it was already weak from the last time, it just came off!!! Ironically, I was going to replace that old adapter with a newer one that has notches inside and fits better. It is a good lesson for me to let sleeping dogs lie.

Yeah, the infuse doesn't really need an adapter to work with micro sims. Learned that after I pulled a pin out on mine lol.

Ooookkkk...didn't know that. I could have used that wisdom sooner.
I really liked this phone. I was running GB for a long time until I got enough courage to upgrade to JB using Scott's custom ROM (many thanks to him for that) and it made a already good device more awesome. I want to try to salvage it if possible. From the looks of it, based on my rudimentary knowledge, it looks like the tray is kind of soldered to the board and I am not sure whether that is correct or if I can just yank it out. Don't really want to experiment and make a bad situation worse.

If you are looking for someone to fix it for you, a lot of people have good luck with these folks for phone repairs (they did great on my daughter's power button replacement):
http://mobiletechvideos.mybigcommerce.com/
It looks like they do Infuse "SIM card slot repair" for $50
http://mobiletechvideos.mybigcommerce.com/samsung-infuse-4g-sim-card-slot-repair/
You ship the phone there, they ship it back after repair/test.
The cost includes return shipment, you pay for the initial shipment (mine was about $8).
Count on being without the phone for about a week or 10 days.
Thanks!

I think it's (425) 861-9174. All they ask for is your IMEI and a mailing address. So I'm betting there's a limit of how many you can get.
Do you think they'll also replace the SD/SIM cover? Mine is creaky to the touch and doesn't seem like it fits too well.

Think ill call and order a spare in case mine breaks.
has anyone confirmed this? also about the SD cover?
If someone wants to try emailing them, here is their email address: [email protected]
I just emailed them and when they reply, ill update this post with more info on what they say.
I requested them to send me both covers. My battery cover is all messed up from removing it too much and my SIM/SD card is missing the tabs that keep it flush with the body of the phone.
I'm still not sure how such a poor design got past R&D, and field testing...
Just got off the phone with them. Told them that my phone is unusable because the cover is broken and the battery keeps falling out. I also told them that my sim cover is bent. FREE overnight shipping on both of them. I was surprised at how great HTC customer service is.

Unfortunately, I've encountered a hardware defect on my phone...
...the dreaded power button is getting stuck and becoming virtually unusable. The VZW Tech Support is sending me a CLNR device which should be here on Friday. (Apparently, they got rid of free overnight shipping.)
I'm unrooting tonight so I can play around with the new OTA over the next couple of days.
Is there anything I need to do to the phone other than un-root it so that VZW doesn't know it was rooted, thereby avoiding any future headaches and $299 charges.
Thanks!
Drew

Just make sure to follow the unroot process in the dev forums so you put your phone back to "stock". You want to make sure its back to "S-ON" but that's about it.

Actually just got the new phone today and rooted it this evening. Everything works perfectly fine and the power button actually presses down now. lol
The only annoyance is that the speaker seems to crackle if above more than 1/2 volume. Thankfully, I can hear just fine if below that. But if it becomes too bad, I'll have to do another swap.

Curious as to why you would bother unrooting software when hardware is the issue? Here's why I ask.
I buy all of my companies pcs and cell phones. If I wipe MSCRAP7 off the machine and it has a MB failure and I call the mfg and they send a new one i don't restore back to 7 why would you on the phone?

Because if I don't, theres a strong risk I'll have to pay full retail for this replacement even though rooting didn't cause the hardware failure.

Well I switched from an iPhone 4 to the Nexus S (Nexus S is better) but I used a micro-sim adaptor but when I took it out one day it took a pin with it. I called Samsung and they said they don't do repairs like that so where in Canada can I get this repaired? I would love any advice. Thanks!

Same crap happened to me. But I guess I got a little lucky cuz only half of the pin broke off, the other half I just bent up so it would touch the sim when it was put in. Worked for me. Idk if yours came off completely or partially like mine did

The person on the phone said as long as it's not physical damage they can fix it for free... which is ridiculous if you ask me because most people on this forum could fix any non-physical damage on the Nexus.
They told me to go to Rogers for some reason to get it repaired even though I said I got the phone as a gift and it was not from Rogers. I guess I'll try calling them again to see if I can get anyone more helpful.

Well after a long time of playing with it I manage to get the phone to read my sim by putting strips of tin foil on the contacts on the sim card. Disappoints me that I have to do this though and now the phone has no resale value.
I just got mine spoiled after returning from a holiday I've tried putting the copper thing back in place and slotting it back but it doesn't work. Now i have to wait till tomorrow to call Samsung support in hope that they will fix it if i pay money because my device has no warranty because it is from Australia and i'm using it in Singapore. Will they accept it to fix it if i pay for the repair?
And can anyone who used aluminium foil or anything to make it work post photos or videos on how to do it? I have no experience in soldering and stuff (15 years old) and i dont know how much foil to put there. Please help me!

Your post is kind of contradictory. You say they wont fix it for free. That suggests that YES they will fix it, but not for free. Which makes total sense, since you physically broke the phone yourself. That's not covered under warranty.
But then you go on to say they told you to talk to Rogers. Your post is very confusing.
Rogers is a carrier. If you have some sort of damage plan or replacement coverage they may help you. Otherwise, at best, they're just going to send it Samsung in the first place. More likely, they won't touch it.
Your options are to try to repair it yourself, try a local shop, or try Samsung again. I seriously doubt that they wouldn't repair it, for $$$.
Or get a 3rd party warranty. Although, that would be pretty unethical and possibly illegal, filing a claim for damage that occurred before you signed up for the plan.

Yeap they got it repaired within a week!
I've had this shift since january.
This is the first time I've had this issue.
It's happened a couple of times now, and I got really scared.
The screen would just not turn on, but all the other lights would.
It's happened across multiple roms too.
Is there a quick fix I can do? I don't feel like taking it to sprint because I know they'll update me and whatnot and I dont feel like dealing with all of that rooting mess lol
and yes, I do have TEP so that's not a problem.
Also, if I take it there, will they give me sh!t for not having the stock battery and try to blame my extended battery for the problem?

What it sounds like is that the Flex Cable has worn out, and cracked. Do you hear a crunching noise when you slide the Keyboard open, or closed ? If you have TEP there are some third party places that will repair it for you. They usually just charge you around $20 - $30 dollars. The third party retailers in my experience do not care if you are Rooted, or not. Just make sure you choose a reputable one.

Hiya!
I dropped my darling nexus 5 in the sink yesterday. I got it up after maybe 1 second and it was working as normal. After some hours it started rebooting and when I plugged the charger in (I now know how stupid that was) the touch stopped working altogether. I put it in rice over the night and this morning I started to disassemble it and removed the battery and cleaned the inside with a soft toothbrush. I have now ordered a new battery but I'm afraid that since the touch stopped working when I plugged the charger in I have caused some permanent damage. What do you think? And if the touch is still unresponsive when I put the new battery in, what part of the phone is damaged?
Your should have put it in the rice for two days before you tried anything else. At this point there could be any part our multiple parts fried. No one will be able to tell you what is wrong. Time for a new phone
