[Q] Keyboard dock backspace key causes browser crash. - Asus Transformer TF700

This is becoming really obnoxious: When trying to type replies into the forum editor window using the default browser, the backspace key on the keyboard dock will cause the browser to just straight up crash. It seems to be most reproducible when I position the cursor on a blank line and hit it.
Does anybody else have this problem or know of any fixes?

Confirmed! SIGSEGV in libwebcore.so, looks like it's passing incorrect parameters to memmove.

Run my script and use a different browser. Hard to believe this hasn't come up before.

Ah, cool! Thanks! I wasn't sure how to get some useful debugging info without actually installing a debugger, but I see `logcat' does the trick. Is that what you used?

Yeah, I'm kinda surprised nobody else has mentioned/experienced it either.
As far as changing browsers, I rather like the stock browser. Firefox's tab interface is a mess, Opera is much the same. Chrome seems slower and more bloated. I know there are plenty other choices, but as I mentioned, I like the default one. Plus, if the above lib is open source (and it probably is), I can try to fix it myself. Yay fun!

For reference, which dock model do you have (TF201, TF700, or "New" TF700=AD01)

Yes, everybody should know logcat. And there is even a more detailed crash report in /data/tombstones.
Happy debugging!

Just thought I'd chime in on this too. I've run into the same issue using Dolphin browser my new TF700 plus RTF201 dock. I noted a similar issue in the stock browser and Boat as well.
Not sure if it's related, but I have another keyboard glitch. If I start typing in any of the browsers before there is a cursor, I get redirected to the address bar but lose the first character I entered. E.g. I start typing "test" but only see "est".

Looks like they are all built off WebKit, so no surprise they all share the same bug.

Not a glitch, just the standard behavior. It's probably supposed to be a convenience feature.

I have seen this before, but had ascribe dit to a flaky app. One more argument on the way to proving that I'm not (that) crazy after all.

I don't think that is browser related. I get that (loosing the first typed letter) often in the Office Pro app, in spreadsheets as well as word documents if I start typing right after selecting the insertion point or cell.

At about:config there is no such option.
I use Opera since years, but the exit confirmation falls on my nerves.

[Q] What is Splashtop?

I have been sending error logs to a developer of a program I use on my tablet, it worked fine on my other and other tablets but this one makes it grind to a hault and then force close. They said it is "Splashtop remote" causing it, so I wanted to know what it is and if there is a way to stop/remove it?

This is ASUS' remote desktop application. I believe it is a system app, so you would need to root and then use something like Tatanium Backup, or maybe Root Explorer to rename the .apk file to .bak and it would disable it.
what exactly the problem with Splashtop remote? It seems to work pretty well on my TF

The problem is it and chandroid. After sending about 30 crash log reports, they told me the problem is that for some reason when chandroid is being used Splashtop goes nuts and eats up system resources causing chandroid to stall and then force close.
I have rooted my TF without a problem, but before I disable it I wanted to know what it is and what it does. Don't want to turn off something important.

Any idea where it is stored, cause I am looking around for it but no luck yet. I am under the ./data folder right now.
Odd, post root and reloading and now it runs just fine. Wouldn't think just rooting it should have had any effect.

Everyone asks that and it's easy, because of one touch downloads all the images, also the watch which is good for when I wander off well grabbing stuff. I tried to get downloadthemall! to work on firefox mobile but no dice, so this is the best choice to do what I want it to do.

[Q] using search function of xda website with xoom

I've been meaning to post this for sometime now.
When i want to search for something on xda forums using my xoom, i click the search bar, then click the text box. no sooner does my keyboard pop up that its gone. therefore I am unable to type or search anything.
I am using the stock keyboard of EOS ICS 1.0.0.0 but it as always happened even when i was on stock 3.2.
is it a problem with forums or something i can fix. it only happens with xda, all the other forums i use like, msfn, android forums, xoomforum, ipmart, htc the search function works fine. Fortunately i still have a laptop so can do searches on there

Have noticed this since April of last year. The other day I tried again with all the browsers I have installed on my WiFi ICS Xoom: built in, Chrome beta, Firefox, & Dolphin HD. Same old, same old. If I want to search I have to leave the tablet and find my laptop. Usually the extra effort keeps me from diddling around
Pretty sure the last time I checked into this it didn't matter which site version I enable for XDA - same problem. Heck, I also remember I couldn't even log in and stay logged in. No idea about that status of that issue.
Rob
Same thing happens to me on my xoom as well as my Galaxy S2.
If i'm on either of these, I click on the 'search this forum' drop down tool bar, but I don't click on the text box as that pulls up the keyboard resulting in the drop down going away again.
When the search tool bar drops down, instead of the text box, click on 'Advanced Search' option just below it, this lets you enter your search term on a separate page. (You don't have to fill in the advanced sections).
It's a bit long-winded but has the desired affect without having to fire up your PC/Laptop.
It happens to me as well. I just click on the advanced search and search that way. Chrome Beta is the only mobile browser where the search function works correctly on XDA...at least that I'm aware of.
Anyone tried reporting this to the Admins?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=276306
It has a better chance of being fixed if one of the site admins see's it.

[Q] XDA homepage is looking weird.

Hi, I have been getting this 'weird look' for the XDA-developer (dot) com homepage. I tried both (the latest stable) chrome and (latest stable) firefox. It has been like this for about a week now. All other pages (portal, forum, wiki, etc) look normal but just the homepage is seemingly broken.
The moment I signed up to answer the question, the homepage is back to normal now. It is now back to normal on firefox too.
What freakish sorcery is this? My intention with this query is more of curiosity. Why does this happen? It is also happening with the dell.com (worldwide) website. What is technically (possibly) going wrong behind the scenes here?
Thanks in advance. :good:
I have the same issue. I don't know about Firefox, but on chrome you just have to click the shield icon in the address bar and click on whatever option comes up there (I can't remember exactly what it says but it should be fairly obvious) and it should sort refresh the page in the correct layout. Annoyingly, AFAIK you're going to have to do this every time you visit the portal.
Sent from my NexusHD2 using xda app-developers app
I haven't been getting this issue, but I've seen it before.
I'm not a web developer, but maybe CSS style information not loading correctly ?
When I get this issue, refreshing the page usually works for me. I get it when our connection lags, too - and doesn't load everything (er, I think that's what's going on, anyway).
That fixed the error!

+1, I think it may be something to do with one of the plugins I have installed, since on another laptop on chrome there seems to be no issue.
Excellent Suggestion!

You were right. Its being caused by the 'HTTPS Everywhere' extension. When I disable, it, the page loads correctly. I had that installed on my firefox too. I hope XDA soon moves their complete website to HTTPS. The extension doesn't seem to have any settings where I can acknowledge an exception.

Chrome+XDA Forum - Weird look
Since a couple of days I have the forum being displayed as following in Chrome:
In Firefox everything is as usual.

Touch Sensitivity? or Multi Touch Issues?

I setup my OPO to use the exact same keyboard as i did on my Nexus 4, Nexus 5, and any other Android device. I use Kii Keyboard. I even resized the keys to be the same size as on my N5 because as you know, as screen size grows, so do the keys.
But I find it very often that when I speed type, the phone seems to miss a letter in between my words. I don't feel like my typing style has changed because when I pick up my N5 I can type normally and the keyboard picks it all up.
I'm wondering if this has to do with touch sensitivity or maybe something with the multitouch is messing up?
What do you guys notice with typing? I seem to type just as horribly on the Google Keyboard. The key is that on my N5, it seems to register every keypress.
@dmo580 I'm having the exact same issue. If its not just me we should put a bug report in at the jira... I have to turn swiping mode off otherwise the screen can't distinguish between 2 touches close together and calls it a swipe. But then with it turned off it can't distinguish between 2 touches still so just misses one.
I'll post it on the jira bug tracker later. Make sure you go and vote it up.

Also noticed here guys. That's a relative problem for me since I use SwiftKey with Swipe feature, but the few times I try to write without swipe it's really annoying. Hoping it's not an hardware issue

Fix is out now,
https://jira.cyanogenmod.org/browse/BACON-55
Harsha K added a comment - an hour ago - edited
After about 20 minutes of testing, I can confirm that has mitigated (if not completely eliminated) the keyboard issues we were having.
EDIT: Full credit for the below steps go to Xavier (above). I only simplified it for people who want to try themselves.
From Phone:
1. Install: https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...roidterm&hl=en
2. Open, type "su". Ensure it says [email protected] or something like that.
3. Paste this command in: cat /sys/class/input/input0/baseline_test
4. Press enter.
5. Should be done, no need to reboot.
From Computer:
1. Plug phone in, enable debugging.
2. sudo adb shell (if linux, don't know about Windows)
3. cd /sys/class/input/input0
4. cat baseline_test
It's worth noting that I did not have any "errors" when I ran this. Xavier did.
This could be what we were hoping for, but I'm still cautious. Excellent work digging around, Xavier.

I'm Harsha K, it seems you beat me to these threads
Accidental Flow (Ha, that just sounds hilarious in my head) still happens from time to time for me, but much, much less often. If you don't use Flow, you can just turn it off, and your touch typing experience will be once again perfect.

I actually saw the fix for it first on reddit and didn't see any mentions of it on XDA.
For me, I tend to usually have flow enabled... it really depends on the situation, sometimes I prefer one hand use and sometimes I'll prefer typing with two hands so its nice to swap between the two.
Does this fix remain after a reboot or would you have to retype the command on every boot?

Whoa, just want to correct you there before anyone gets the wrong idea; I didn't find the cultprit, Xavier did. I just turned them into easy-to-follow steps
According to Xavier on JIRA, this will not persist on reboots, and needs to be added to the init.d scripts you have. I'll ask franco if he'd be okay with doing that on his next release.

you need root.
also make sure to type 'su' first.
That might temporarily fix it, but it's a hardware issue with your unit (I've got the same problem with mine).
You should RMA it (I'm going through this process atm).
made an init.d script for this wanted someone to make sure it alright, so I need to include su?
in /system/etc/init.d
filename is 00keyboardfix
paste this:
