Touch Sensitivity? or Multi Touch Issues? - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I setup my OPO to use the exact same keyboard as i did on my Nexus 4, Nexus 5, and any other Android device. I use Kii Keyboard. I even resized the keys to be the same size as on my N5 because as you know, as screen size grows, so do the keys.
But I find it very often that when I speed type, the phone seems to miss a letter in between my words. I don't feel like my typing style has changed because when I pick up my N5 I can type normally and the keyboard picks it all up.
I'm wondering if this has to do with touch sensitivity or maybe something with the multitouch is messing up?
What do you guys notice with typing? I seem to type just as horribly on the Google Keyboard. The key is that on my N5, it seems to register every keypress.

@dmo580 I'm having the exact same issue. If its not just me we should put a bug report in at the jira... I have to turn swiping mode off otherwise the screen can't distinguish between 2 touches close together and calls it a swipe. But then with it turned off it can't distinguish between 2 touches still so just misses one.
I'll post it on the jira bug tracker later. Make sure you go and vote it up.

Also noticed here guys. That's a relative problem for me since I use SwiftKey with Swipe feature, but the few times I try to write without swipe it's really annoying. Hoping it's not an hardware issue

Fix is out now,
https://jira.cyanogenmod.org/browse/BACON-55
Harsha K added a comment - an hour ago - edited
After about 20 minutes of testing, I can confirm that has mitigated (if not completely eliminated) the keyboard issues we were having.
EDIT: Full credit for the below steps go to Xavier (above). I only simplified it for people who want to try themselves.
From Phone:
1. Install: https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...roidterm&hl=en
2. Open, type "su". Ensure it says [email protected] or something like that.
3. Paste this command in: cat /sys/class/input/input0/baseline_test
4. Press enter.
5. Should be done, no need to reboot.
From Computer:
1. Plug phone in, enable debugging.
2. sudo adb shell (if linux, don't know about Windows)
3. cd /sys/class/input/input0
4. cat baseline_test
It's worth noting that I did not have any "errors" when I ran this. Xavier did.
This could be what we were hoping for, but I'm still cautious. Excellent work digging around, Xavier.

Just tried it and it works SwiftKey is a lot more accurate and doesn't accidently flow.

I'm Harsha K, it seems you beat me to these threads
Accidental Flow (Ha, that just sounds hilarious in my head) still happens from time to time for me, but much, much less often. If you don't use Flow, you can just turn it off, and your touch typing experience will be once again perfect.

I actually saw the fix for it first on reddit and didn't see any mentions of it on XDA.
For me, I tend to usually have flow enabled... it really depends on the situation, sometimes I prefer one hand use and sometimes I'll prefer typing with two hands so its nice to swap between the two.
Does this fix remain after a reboot or would you have to retype the command on every boot?

Whoa, just want to correct you there before anyone gets the wrong idea; I didn't find the cultprit, Xavier did. I just turned them into easy-to-follow steps
According to Xavier on JIRA, this will not persist on reboots, and needs to be added to the init.d scripts you have. I'll ask franco if he'd be okay with doing that on his next release.

you need root.
also make sure to type 'su' first.

That might temporarily fix it, but it's a hardware issue with your unit (I've got the same problem with mine).
You should RMA it (I'm going through this process atm).

made an init.d script for this wanted someone to make sure it alright, so I need to include su?
in /system/etc/init.d
filename is 00keyboardfix
paste this:
#!/system/bin/sh
cat /sys/class/input/input0/baseline_test

Why is messaging typing so slow?

On nearly every ROM i have used so far the typing for messaging, be it an email or a text, just crawls along. It is so painful. I have to sit there and wait and wait for the words to catch up. I'm sure you all know what i'm referring to. I did a search and didn't find a thread about it, although i am sure a solution is out there. Much thanks i you can point me in the right direction.
EDIT: P.S. Please pardon my faux pas....i just now realized, i did not mean to post this to this forum. Mods if you would like to move to the main Raph forum please do so. Cheers!
Mod Edit: Added the cab from the Kaiser forum to speed up keyboard as it works on the Touch Pro as well.

try disabling xt9 and see what happens.
I've noticed the same issue here! Still haven't found a fix tho ;-\
Kewlj1313
not sure where "x"t9 is, but i am pretty sure i have any t9/word complete options turned off and it still crawls. I pretty much want to get rid of that black box that appears around my words above the input area...i think that's the culprit
Did you really disable word completion under settings / input ??
Not sure why this is such a stupid question, as i would be keen to know the answer myself. You can wait ages for the input to catch up, once you have finished typing. So if anyone can help on this, i too would be grateful.

I checked again and there was one more word complete in there somewhere that was not turned off....did a soft reset and it seems to be working normally Thanks for telling me to check again!
I have the same thing, too. When I slide open the phone and start typeing away, i have to let the letters catch up so I can see what I'm typing.
Kinda annoying...

Hello,
Could you please tell me where the other text completion format is?
I went to settings and messaging and turned that off as well as in the advanced config.
Thanks
Nevermind, it is still delayed for me
The settings are where karloe says earlier. Just check all the options and such everywhere in input settings, but i'm still getting delayed typing. It sucks

Bump
I've tried every tweak, etc. out there....i am guessing that not everyone is having this problem then?
Another thing i notice that is annoying is that when i create a word it tends to save that word in the "word memory" just above the typing box, and if i jump to another part of the message and it still has saved that last word i typed, it will insert that word if i put a space or type a letter. Also very annoying. I have no word complete's or anything are turned on.
Mine works just fine...
But typing was very slow on my old Mogul.

Smart Protection.ALPHA

are there some annoying guys at your house?
you dont want them to mess up your phone dont you?
well, here is the app that you are searching for.
it simply works as a motion sensor, when the phone/tab is moved, the phone/tab will produce a loud noise.
please note: I AM STILL WORKING ON THIS APP, so there might be some bugs
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
this app was tested on:
Samsung Galaxy Tab GT-P1000
Samsung Galaxy S2
mike2nl had tested it on:
Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 with Overcom 1.2.2
HTC HD2 Leo Nand with CoreDroid HD GB 2.3.3 V1.7
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Before running the app, make sure your phone is not on silent mode, also make sure that orientation lock is off (if you use version 1.0)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
please download the NEW version (Smart Protection 2.2)

@MR.zero:
that sounds amazing and it likes not real, because there was once an app in wm6.5 times. Named Stop Motion or something like that....
Your idea and the 1st version is more then i had expect here. I had used it all the time for my wm phone. Because we have some strange people coming in and coming out while we are very busy by our customers, so this was allways cool. And now you . I will test it under real conditions.
Question:
- will this also run on the sgt10.1 3g version? I think well because you use the motion sensor, and so far what i know from the sdk, it is the same call. Or i am totaly wrong?
- i think after the first tests my question is anwsered by myself ;-). Ok some issues about screen resolution but this logical at this alpha state.
1st test 10 minutes after the download:
- device: SGT10.1 3G (it was a must for me ;-)
- app installed without any issue from sd crad
- app started
- the app is shown only in the top of the screen and then in the middle (logical it is for the 7 inch tab)
- i has to scroll a little bit up to see the START button. Start pressed and then i have waited 10 seconds
- then i have moved the tab from the table and was walking 1 1/2 meter and now my neighbours are awake (it is 30 minutes before midnight, sh..t)
- result: it is working!!
Ok for an Alpha Version is this a very good result.
- Some ideas about settings (sensity, rotation,...).
- Some ideas about screensize (auto size function - landscape and portrait mode). This for the 10 inch version ;-)
- and a lot more, but i will wait for the next version, and i will test this now under real condition.
2nd test 15 minutes after the download:
- device: HD2 Leo NAND CoreDroid HD V1.7
- same way of using as in test one
- result: it is working!!
I think this little app has a great feature here on XDA. Congrats so far!

this is one of the worst case users i have ever met here on XDA. I hope the admins will follow you. This is not the way to interact in a community, where people give back something to all of us. But users like you make it nearly impossible to say nothing about that.

i will try to re-design the app, so it would work on the galaxy tab, and also any other device.
i will also re program the app so it would become more sensitive
the update might be available soon

here is whats new:
1-Smart Protection is now much more sensitive, it no more depends on the screen orientation.
2-resolution error on other device solved.

Thanks dude, I often put my tab on my working table for tethering my laptop. since my office is placed in front, so there's a handful people going back and forth the office. I seldom close my office door, so this app works for me
I put it on the tble, and i started the app. I press start protection, press home and turn off my screen. I lift it up, shaking it all over, err, nothing happened.
tried again, started the app and then i found that the protection has been turned off again. so i press start protection again, and this time i didn't leave the app. i lift it up and it works
pretty cool app
just curious, can you make it run in the background so it will still works even if i close the app? or maybe make another independent app that u can put on launcher dock for automatically turn it on/off
when u press it? (like screen off app)
but still , thanks anyway

Hey Mr.zero I also have one or two suggestions so far.
Is it true that someone tech savy could just turn the media volume down or quit the app to stop it? It only runs in landscape mode and doesn't fit the screen on my P1010.
Apart from that, maybe letting it run in the background would be enough for this app to alert you without the need to make it complicated!

Request for s4 svoice

I know that it was originally released for the s3 awhile back when it was leaked. But that no longer works is anyone working on getting the svoice off and working on the s3 by any chance?
From what I understand, Samsung has found out about the leak and shutdown the servers. If you install it, you will just get network error. We are hoping that once most carriers start to officialy release the S4 that it will start working again.Until then, I dont think there is really anything else that can be done to get it working.
I'm using the s4 svoice just fine no errors.

All personal preference i suspect. You may hate it and others may love it. Neither position is right or wrong.
Good point!
Could it be possible that those who thought the S4 S-Voice wasn't working had it confused with the new S4 S-Translate? I know there were issues with that one connecting when it was pulled from the system dump.
In any case, I've been using the new S-Voice for a while now... The driving mode is pretty cool, and I still like the "humerous" responses it gives (personality if you will). The voice has got to be changed though, it's murder on the ears.

my bad...cleared cache and a reboot fixed it....
still prefer google search though...manged to find instructions on how to switch the double tap button to launch google voice search instead of S voice...
now, if i can only figure out how to set google as the default for when Bluetooth is used...s voice still dominates that..but switching the speech recognizer to googles instead of Samsung helped S voice perform better.

[Q] Keyboard dock backspace key causes browser crash.

This is becoming really obnoxious: When trying to type replies into the forum editor window using the default browser, the backspace key on the keyboard dock will cause the browser to just straight up crash. It seems to be most reproducible when I position the cursor on a blank line and hit it.
Does anybody else have this problem or know of any fixes?

Confirmed! SIGSEGV in libwebcore.so, looks like it's passing incorrect parameters to memmove.

Ah, cool! Thanks! I wasn't sure how to get some useful debugging info without actually installing a debugger, but I see `logcat' does the trick. Is that what you used?

Yeah, I'm kinda surprised nobody else has mentioned/experienced it either.
As far as changing browsers, I rather like the stock browser. Firefox's tab interface is a mess, Opera is much the same. Chrome seems slower and more bloated. I know there are plenty other choices, but as I mentioned, I like the default one. Plus, if the above lib is open source (and it probably is), I can try to fix it myself. Yay fun!
For reference, which dock model do you have (TF201, TF700, or "New" TF700=AD01)

Yes, everybody should know logcat. And there is even a more detailed crash report in /data/tombstones.

Just thought I'd chime in on this too. I've run into the same issue using Dolphin browser my new TF700 plus RTF201 dock. I noted a similar issue in the stock browser and Boat as well.
Not sure if it's related, but I have another keyboard glitch. If I start typing in any of the browsers before there is a cursor, I get redirected to the address bar but lose the first character I entered. E.g. I start typing "test" but only see "est".

Looks like they are all built off WebKit, so no surprise they all share the same bug.

Not a glitch, just the standard behavior. It's probably supposed to be a convenience feature.

I have seen this before, but had ascribe dit to a flaky app. One more argument on the way to proving that I'm not (that) crazy after all.

I don't think that is browser related. I get that (loosing the first typed letter) often in the Office Pro app, in spreadsheets as well as word documents if I start typing right after selecting the insertion point or cell.

[Q] Multiple questions about the Moto G

hi everybody!
sorry for the non-descriptive title, but i have some questions i'd like to ask here. i just got my moto g 2 days ago, i switched from a samsung galaxy s+ (with cm10.2) so this is quite the change for me, hardware and software wise.
[ANSWERED] 1. first i missed the possibility to swipe my keyboard to type, i found many different apps for that, but my question would be what is the keyboard included in cyanogenmod? because since this can 'see' everything i type i want an app for that i can trust...
[ANSWERED] 2. i really liked the cLock app for time and weather in cm, but google-ing 'clock app' wasnt the most helpful thing i've ever done ^^ so here my queston would be aswel whats the cyanogenmod cLock app and where can i find it?!
[ANSWERED] 3. next thing would be how can i get something like pdroid on this device (i had it on the sgs+)? i would need root i assume, i saw lots of different methods for that aswel. one with like contacting motorola to get the rom unlocked or something like that. so whats the easiest way to get a privacy control on the moto g? i remember something like the new android has some inbuilt setting for that?!?
[ANSWERED] 4. something that is irritating me quite a lot are the software keys, because samsung has the back key on the right side and the moto has it on the left side. also i dont understand why there would be a key for recent apps instead of a menu key. same here: i saw lots of different methods to change that, some even with adding or getting rid of lines of the code. ok i managed to install cm on my sgs, but thats a little out of my capabilities ^^ so again what would be the easiest way to change the buttons around?
[ANSWERED] 5. another thing would be, how do i turn off the vibration when using the keyboard? i tried the setting under 'sound' -> 'vibrate on touch' (or something along those lines) but that didnt turn off all of the vibration, for example its still vibrating when i use the keyboard but not anymore when i open apps or menus.
maybe there is even the possibility to install a stable version of cyanogenmod on the moto g which would solve most of my issues? but since this is running so smoothly i dont want any nightly builds, alphas or betas on this thing right now...
btw i am using the nova launcher in case that makes any difference for any of the questions above!?
also i include this screenshot with all the version numbers in it because it might be useful: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B5JftqugO1xsbnh1dTBrQzZVWXc/edit?usp=sharing
thanks a bunch in advance and for reading and i hope someone is willing and able to help me out here!:fingers-crossed:
EDIT:
all the questions above have been answered! only one more question is open atm, [ here ] thanks to everyone who contributed so far!

You can install the stock google keyboard from the play store for using swype, And there is cyangenmod version available for the G, you should go to the Moto G Original Android Development section of the forum for that. The vibration option should be in your sound / keyboard settings so you just need to look better i gues.

I suggest to install Xposed framework (Root needed), and then you can have this features with Gravity Box and Xprivacy (these are modules for Xposed).
In order to root, you have to unlock the bootloader (follow the instruction on Motorola website), then install a Custom recovery (I suggest Philz one) and supersu from Play store

hi and thank you for your contribution! i have unlocked and rooted my device successfully and installed the xposed framework. i havent quite got the hang of how xprivacy works as of now since its a little different from pdroid (and somewhat confusing imo). but thats just a matter of time i guess. i'll start reading here: https://github.com/M66B/XPrivacy#xprivacy or is there a better quick start guide?
i assume i can uninstall the 'xprivacy installer' (the one from google play) after i installed 'xprivacy'? and that gravity box is for the softkeys and its this one here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2554049 ? i'll look into that tomorrow, since its getting late here and i dont wanna mess up now ^^

Mornin', you're very welcome!
Xprivacy it's kind of complicated, but that reading will help you. I admit I don't use it, but I know it gives you full control on privacy and this is what you were looking for As you said, it's just a matter of time!
Btw you can install modules directly from Xposed Installer application, so you can bypass the Play Store.
Yes that's gravity box: it's very good and popular, you can surely reverse/set all the software keys, but also do a lot of modding!
It's more intuitive than Xprivacy, just go ahead options and try them, it's safe!
Good luck and forgive my english!

i am no native english tongue myself, so i dont notice anything wrong with your english. no need to excuse, i make mistakes myself.
i was under the impression that you could do 'stupid' stuff with xprivacy, like i was able to deny my camera app access to the camera with pdroid. that was a good way to test if it was properly working. so i tried and deny firefox access to 'internet' but that didnt seem to work, but then again it especially said its no going to break apps. i dig into all of this further later on.
just a question, what would be a good way to verify it is working like its supposed to? talking about xprivacy here...
edit: and to answer my question no.5: there is another setting for vibration in the keyboard itself, so you have to go through -> language and input -> select settings on your keyboard -> vibrate on key push (or sth along those lines), so basically you have to turn it off twice.

I just tried it and i had no problem to deny the access for Firefox. When you open xprivacy in the app list tap on the Firefox Logo, not on the name or the checkbox. If you do so the details will open. If you now tick the category "Internet" then you will see that it is checked as a square, not as a hook. If it is a square it is only partially blocked. If you go now into the details of the category "Internet", you will see, that not all options are checked. Some are even marked red because they might be essential for the functionalty of the specific app. If you check also these and maybe also all others, then you can prevent Firefox of getting access to the Internet. If you check all items in Internet manually you'll see that category internet has now a hook than a square.
but then again it especially said its no going to break apps.

You can check for example all outgoing connections to the internet from your device. I have not tested this tool, or similar like that, but i will now because i just had the idea Else you can also prevent Facebook app to connect. I use Auto Hide Softkey App. I can for example prevent that it uses the overlay function, so it can not modify the UI and hide the Navbar.
Xprivacy is a very powerful tool. If you want it more simple, you can activate the in Android but Disabled inbuilt AppOPS App (search for AppOPS). But it is also less powerful.
I bought xprivacy. If you buy it, you can download the restrictions automatically and upload yours for others. You are also able to export end import the settings if licensed. Also nice that you can buy it via Paypal because i do not have a Credit Card (and i don't want).

well you explained it yourself pretty much, the app was designed to not break apps in the way they work but restrict them from your privat data. so when i clicked firefox'es internet permission and it had the square, i disabled some but not all of it. thats all i was saying

i wasnt on my computer for quiet some time so i couldnt answer on this thread, my apologies.
i bought the pro version of xprivacy with paypal too and i synced my permissions for all apps with the cloud or crowd. it could find and sync most of my apps which is a nice and easy way to get around the ridiculous amount of permissions to set for each app.
can you confirm that most of the synced crowd settings make sense in the way of privacy protection? because i havent looked too much into all those settings but even when i did i couldnt quiet understand them in depth...
also @Landrea thanks for recommending gravity box, that thing is amazing! i was able to restore most of the cyanogenmod settings i was missing, great! also i could reconfigure my softkeys, but i am thinking about this app here to maximize my usable screensize:

Go for that apps if you think you need more usable screensize (hard to believe)
