[Q] What is Splashtop? - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have been sending error logs to a developer of a program I use on my tablet, it worked fine on my other and other tablets but this one makes it grind to a hault and then force close. They said it is "Splashtop remote" causing it, so I wanted to know what it is and if there is a way to stop/remove it?

This is ASUS' remote desktop application. I believe it is a system app, so you would need to root and then use something like Tatanium Backup, or maybe Root Explorer to rename the .apk file to .bak and it would disable it.

what exactly the problem with Splashtop remote? It seems to work pretty well on my TF

The problem is it and chandroid. After sending about 30 crash log reports, they told me the problem is that for some reason when chandroid is being used Splashtop goes nuts and eats up system resources causing chandroid to stall and then force close.
I have rooted my TF without a problem, but before I disable it I wanted to know what it is and what it does. Don't want to turn off something important.

Any idea where it is stored, cause I am looking around for it but no luck yet. I am under the ./data folder right now.
Odd, post root and reloading and now it runs just fine. Wouldn't think just rooting it should have had any effect.

Why are you using chandroid when you have a 10.1 screen with a tabbed browser for using *chan?

Everyone asks that and it's easy, because of one touch downloads all the images, also the watch which is good for when I wander off well grabbing stuff. I tried to get downloadthemall! to work on firefox mobile but no dice, so this is the best choice to do what I want it to do.

I just tried it and it is working perfectly. Not sure if it matters but have you updated your Flash?
it is most likely there are ads on top of the video display screen. i got it in jimey.tv. firefox keep crashing on me and cant find adblock for asus browser to eliminate that white/grey shade screen
root your device, add adblock and block by hostfile...
this is my first touch device..and am still too noobish to rot my transfo. may be in the coming weeks when i feel comfortable in understanding it.no other fix than rooting?

Does this apply to the Justin.TV viewer app, or to the Justin.TV web site via the browser? I am having white screen issue with the app. Also, where can I get adblock, as I can't find it on the market. Thanks.
OK, I installed AdFree and downloaded the host file, restarted TF. But still no luck with Justin.TV Viewer app. I uninstalled and reinstalled Adobe Flash 10.3 as well. I am running Prime 1.3 ROM and TF is definitely rooted. Any other ideas?

android.process.media force close! FIX

I know some of you have been having problems with a force close message that looks like this: Android.process.media is not responding please force close or retry.
I have done search after search only to find one way that ultimately fixes this annoying every second force close message.
1. Make sure your phone is rooted.
2. Using a file explorer of your choice go into the directories as follows:
/system/app/
3. Delete this file from the menu, mediaprovider.apk
4. Force close messages will now stop. Horray!
If you have questions post them. I will do my best to answer.

i tried it on my G2 and it hasn't worked yet. Had to give ES FileExplorer root.
Have a great morning!
..........
media.process force close issue rooted htc desire
I fixed this problem without any further issues by clearing the download cache - I'm just as surprised as you.
staplesdroid said:
Yea like I said you must have a rooted phone!!!. Did it work after you gave es file root?
Another great program in root explorer. You can get it from ww w. 4shared .co m
Go there type in rootexplorer .apk and it will have multiple downloads. Just pick one and run it.
You can get all the paid apps for free like that. Just type in .apk after the app you want is typed in for example: rootexplorer .apk or irunner .apk or androidbanking .apk..... you get the picture?

Or you could get it from the market, and pay for it, and support the developers. But if you want to be a thief, that's your decision.

+ 1, a one time payment of $4 for something useful is nothing.
Sent from my abucus
why patronize piracy?
I live in Asia, where pirated software/apps are more prevalent than legit ones. That is because software like Microsoft Windows is economically out of reach for the man on the street.
But $3.99? Come on! We shouldn't expect devs to continue churning out useful code without getting paid for it. If the developers of Titanium Backup or Root Toolbox had decided early on that it wasn't worth it to develop apps for Android or WinMo, we'd all still be in the Dark Ages of the cellphone era. Making custom ROMs is not the same. For one, many of them were based on stock firmware--which were made by highly-paid software engineers at phone makers in the first place.
What the Android Market offers for free, I download for free. When it has a price and I need it, I pay for it. Simple as that.
1) the fix listed above worked perfectly for me. (HD2, gingerbread, CM7)
2) paying for an app is the right thing to do. free ones are preferred, of course. you know it, i know it, they know it. support open source, support the community. pay it forward.

Yep, this is actually a horrible fix. For me, it did nothing except stop me from accessing any of my media. So if you don't care about listening to music, viewing any photos, having ringtones, viewing video you have taken etc, this MIGHT work for you. I had to dig out the mediaprovider.apk from the .zip of my ROM and replace it.
I fixed mine by restoring my last Titanium Backup ("restore all apps with data"). Whatever was corrupted was restored back to working order. I understand that not everyone has Titanium Backup, but it has save my a$$ a couple of times now when an app or system file has started acting weird. Root your phone and get TB, it's so worth it.
EDIT: OK, so the problem came back after I replaced mediaprovider.apk, so apologies for that. I booted into recovery and did a factory/data reset, then restored my Titanium Backup, and all seems to be good now. Again, I understand this may not help everyone, but it worked for me, and it avoids deleting apk files without fully understanding what effect it will have.

I had the same problem with my Asus transformer. In addition the default Music player did not work anymore as it used to (played the wrong numbers).
The above solution did not work for me (I could get to the files mentioned without rooting).
Sofar I got the problem solved as followed.
1. I found an new version 4 of the Music player (com.google.android.misic.4.0.9.apk) and installed this version
2. This by itself did not solve anything, but now I could reinstall the factory original version and now everything is OK.
No forced closing anymore and the default player works as before
I hope it stays this way.

alfred

[Q] Crash Bandicoot doesn't download from server anymore?

Hello guys,
I don't have crash bandicoot pre-installed on my sd card no more. I'd like to try out using the Native psx emulator developed by yifanlu, but when i run my crash bandicoot, it seems to get stuck on "Updating" and never changes.
I've tried the US version as well, same result. Left it on for over 2 hours and still showing Updating page and nothing moves...
Anyone have any idea what i can do?

Maybe you will have more luck, if you push it back to /system/app where it came from rather than just installing
Thanks for the tip, but I didn't realize that within system/app I already have the same file that you uploaded. So I installed it from that location, but when I try to open it. All it keeps saying is updating... And I don't think it changes? Is it meant to change page to say maybe downloading or something? Is it meant to take ages to download?
This is getting quite annoying =.=
Anymore tips? Or should I just keep leaving it on the updating page?

Problem Solved
I went back through and started replacing .apk's i had deleted. I even tried installing crash different ways, put it back into system an still no good, installed to sd card didnt work, installed to system normally didnt work. So when the Syphon Filter didnt work for me either, and I had all the sd files for syphon filter already, but even that said updating. It wasnt crash. There is an app called "preinstalledservice.apk" and idk why but none of the sony playstation game apps would work without it. Just put that .apk back into system apps and change permissions on it. Everything works great now, oddly enough the preinstalledservice.apk also has a weird looking icon... I attached it below, almost like its smiling with razor like teeth just because it knew I was gonna need it back in system lol....
Is your phone unlocked? I read somewhere that if your phone is unlocked then you lose drm support...since unlocking my phone I have not been able to download any new xperia games.....

Interesting...... On another forum someone mentioned how Sony said a long time ago the emulator will work on Tegra 2 (which it does, as in the Sony S1 tablet). However you would think ok then why wouldn't it work on any Tegra 2 phone, well the Playstation Certification of course. But what could that entail? Simply a build.prop modification? Based on this maybe not, maybe this .apk is specific to hardware to make sure that its running on PS Certified devices only.
Just my theory....

I would have to agree with you because without that apk I couldnt run anything. And when Syphon Filter 1 or 3 opened and froze at updating , I knew it had to be something missing on my phone because the Syphon Filters weren't released for xperia play on verizon, So they didnt need to update anything because I already had the files needed and they were modified to work on any xperia play model/carrier.

Browser sponteneously resets

Hey guys,
I am using a stock browser (cause it's the only one that works smooth without crashing) and whever I shuffle a bit beetween different applications it happens to reset itself back to google, which is it's main page, which is annoying since I already launched a few pages on it before begining to shuffle and wanted to use them further on.
Do you know any solution to this?

Yeah, i installed it while flashing cleanrom and recently I clicked on install now and did a reboot.
EDIT: In fact this issue regards also Kindle app, Polaris and Office Suite Pro. Every now and then they simply reset themselves to the previous state and I cant figure out why
Noone knows a solution? It begins to get really annoying
It's a long shot, but try fixing permissions using ROM Manager. Failing that, I would uninstall and reinstall the apps...

What he's saying is download Rom Manager from the market, and in the app you're going to find a feature called "fixing permission"(look in backup current rom tab), this will make sure all the permissions are correct for your rom.
I can't see how fixing permissions will fix this. Normally you'll have force closes that that helps with.
In this case it almose sounds like browser2ram is either recaching when it shouldn't or something else but that doesn't explain all the behaviour.
I'd reflash the rom without B2R first and see if that makes a difference.
I can reproduce this. Settings "background process limit" to "no background processes", after starting the browser and then using another app, the browser goes back to the start page. Using Browser2RAM at least, but that should not make a difference here.
Generally, when the browser's process is killed, its unsaved state is lost. Apparently the stock browser does not store its state on disk.

Backup & Hard Reset without a screen?

So I killed my XT897. I dropped it on cement and cracked the screen so badly that I can't read it at all. Luckily I had the insurance and most of my data backed up to the cloud. However, it would be great if I could somehow back up the other stuff (apps, sms, call log, etc...) and then would like to wipe the old phone before returning it. Any suggestions on how to do this?
I guess you could adb pull stuff, but no clue how to adb pull sms messages and call log....
You usually need an app to back that stuff up. Maybe someone has another idea...

Would it be possible to install a remote viewing program such as TeamViewer using ADB on your Android device and and corresponding software on PC side???
Then you could in theory utilize the PC Application to at least search through all the Android system files and have access to everything you need to back up...
(Yes, HDMI probably works better for this because of the fact there is a GUI, but I was considering all options)

Last I remember you gotta be rooted with a VNC server app running though. :/
You might be better off just pulling all your data with ADB, flashing with RSD and sending it in.
If you pull with ADB though some things like call/text history might not be easily loaded into another phone but you will at least have all the database files and any media.

You could install a custom recovery like clock work mod then back up your phone from there. Then do a factory reset. Then uninstall your recovery. then lock your boot-loader again.

In response, with TeamViewer one is not able to "control" an Android device, as there is no Graphical User Interface (GUI), but I am able to access all files and such with my PC. And I will check to see if indeed being rooted is required to install this on the Android side.
