I've been meaning to post this for sometime now.
When i want to search for something on xda forums using my xoom, i click the search bar, then click the text box. no sooner does my keyboard pop up that its gone. therefore I am unable to type or search anything.
I am using the stock keyboard of EOS ICS 1.0.0.0 but it as always happened even when i was on stock 3.2.
is it a problem with forums or something i can fix. it only happens with xda, all the other forums i use like, msfn, android forums, xoomforum, ipmart, htc the search function works fine. Fortunately i still have a laptop so can do searches on there

Have noticed this since April of last year. The other day I tried again with all the browsers I have installed on my WiFi ICS Xoom: built in, Chrome beta, Firefox, & Dolphin HD. Same old, same old. If I want to search I have to leave the tablet and find my laptop. Usually the extra effort keeps me from diddling around
Pretty sure the last time I checked into this it didn't matter which site version I enable for XDA - same problem. Heck, I also remember I couldn't even log in and stay logged in. No idea about that status of that issue.
Rob
Same thing happens to me on my xoom as well as my Galaxy S2.
If i'm on either of these, I click on the 'search this forum' drop down tool bar, but I don't click on the text box as that pulls up the keyboard resulting in the drop down going away again.
When the search tool bar drops down, instead of the text box, click on 'Advanced Search' option just below it, this lets you enter your search term on a separate page. (You don't have to fill in the advanced sections).
It's a bit long-winded but has the desired affect without having to fire up your PC/Laptop.
It happens to me as well. I just click on the advanced search and search that way. Chrome Beta is the only mobile browser where the search function works correctly on XDA...at least that I'm aware of.
Anyone tried reporting this to the Admins?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=276306
It has a better chance of being fixed if one of the site admins see's it.

I have duttys apr 16 release but as long as i can remember i cannot respond and type in the field boxes on forums. Is there some explorer settings i dont have set right?
I have searched and cannot find any reference to this..
I have no idea what you are talking about.
First Off You have a ROM created 3-4 days ago and "as long as you can remember" you've had a problem with it?
What are you trying to do. Maybe Tell more detail and we can help.
Also Post the Question in Duttys Thread where more people are and read.
I would request this thread be closed it serves to only dilute the Search function.
I think he means that when browsing the forum on the phone he is unable to type into the reply and search text boxes. He is currently using dutty's april 16 rom but means the problem has also been on all the roms he has used before this one also.
In my experience (I used Opera Mobile 8.65) when I click the search drop down, the text box will appear and when I start to type it will disappear. I don't fret though because even though I can't see the text, if I keep typing, everything will be there. I then click the search drop down again, see that everything I have typed is there and click search.
Hi,
You need to change options on XDA-Dev to use your ppc!
Quick Links\Edit options\Miscellaneous options\Message Editor interface, and choose there 'Basic Editor'
Now you can use your pda to reply in threads
Cheers,
Leo

When I search from either the Google search widget or the HTC browser, instead of returning the results on the standard Google homepage, the results get returned as per the attachment.
Any ideas on how I can fix it? I know it is a trivial issue, but it is really annoying.
Thanks.
Never seen that before. Mine goes to the Google page search results.
Have you tried updating the Google Search app? It's in the Market.
Yep, I tried that with no joy.
I assume it's some kind of Vodafone addition in order to try to gather metrics on usage.
It's just really annoying and I'd very much like to go back to the proper results page...
I'm not sure I get what the problem is... The screenshot looks like the search results on my phone and pc browser.

Here is an example of the searches side by side.
As I say, it's a petty problem but very annoying.
re:Browser settings
Just open the browser, menu>more>settings> tick mobile view
Unfortunately that setting was already ticked.
I think that someone has created a custom search (Using this: http://www.google.com/cse/) and incorporated that instead. I assume it must be Vodafone.
uhm... i can't find search in the upper right anymore, i mean the "search thread" tool?
do you know where to find/it did go?

Wondering the same thing here. Wanted to "search this forum". Guess they moved it to the app instead of copying it.
Wow, I thought I was loosing my mind...so others don't see it as well
It's a bug that admin are aware of and are looking into.

Not a very good option for someone who is having problems with there phone/device. I'm glad I checked here I though I thought they had dissabled it for me because I was under the 10 post limit
Iether way it is still missing for me as well. I also noticed that the advanced search is not allowed for me either... I end up with the welcome new user you need 10 helpfull posts to use this feature page.
Did they up the restrictions for "new users"?
thats an excellent question. I salute you for being different and actually asking it, rather than ignoring it like most of us.
Worst case scenario :
Use the xda app on ur PC via android emulator
THANKS if helpful

Same result here. I'm unable to search by http://forum.xda-developers.com/search.php or by clicking the wheel cog icon in the top header bar (Advanced Search). The regular search bar at the top just gives generic non forum results.
Can someone tell me how one normally limits a search to a specific forum? Should that be an option in the "Forum Tools" drop down menu?

No, the search option is right next to the "Forum Tools" button you said before, on the left side. Or at least, it should be there..
Nothing at the moment, no tools for searching the forum. Someone told us to use the xda app on android but afaik its search function ain't working at all.
Now it is back, for me at least, and from work where I use IE8.
I'll see from home (Chrome)...
Hi, I have been getting this 'weird look' for the XDA-developer (dot) com homepage. I tried both (the latest stable) chrome and (latest stable) firefox. It has been like this for about a week now. All other pages (portal, forum, wiki, etc) look normal but just the homepage is seemingly broken.
The moment I signed up to answer the question, the homepage is back to normal now. It is now back to normal on firefox too.
What freakish sorcery is this? My intention with this query is more of curiosity. Why does this happen? It is also happening with the dell.com (worldwide) website. What is technically (possibly) going wrong behind the scenes here?
Thanks in advance. :good:
I have the same issue. I don't know about Firefox, but on chrome you just have to click the shield icon in the address bar and click on whatever option comes up there (I can't remember exactly what it says but it should be fairly obvious) and it should sort refresh the page in the correct layout. Annoyingly, AFAIK you're going to have to do this every time you visit the portal.

I haven't been getting this issue, but I've seen it before.
I'm not a web developer, but maybe CSS style information not loading correctly ?
When I get this issue, refreshing the page usually works for me. I get it when our connection lags, too - and doesn't load everything (er, I think that's what's going on, anyway).
That fixed the error!

Thanks! That fixed the error. Wow! So its cause Chrome detects xda-dev homepage having 'insecure content'. I hope xda site admins do something about this soon cause its super annoying!

+1, I think it may be something to do with one of the plugins I have installed, since on another laptop on chrome there seems to be no issue.
Excellent Suggestion!

You were right. Its being caused by the 'HTTPS Everywhere' extension. When I disable, it, the page loads correctly. I had that installed on my firefox too. I hope XDA soon moves their complete website to HTTPS. The extension doesn't seem to have any settings where I can acknowledge an exception.

Of course, I have the same plugin installed I CBA to disable/uninstall it right now, but at least I know what's causing the issue.
Chrome+XDA Forum - Weird look
Since a couple of days I have the forum being displayed as following in Chrome:
In Firefox everything is as usual.
I'm running chromi-x. My chrome browser's address bar search feature is somewhat hijacked...
<search term> goes to google/yahoo/bing (as set in settings) but it searches for: http://www.search-goal.com/?q=<search term>&affID=<somenumber>&babsrc=amob_ait
Has anyone seen an android browser hijack? Any idea how to fix? AVG A/V hasn't had any luck....
EDIT/PS: This is not happening in the default android browser.
Oops. Didn't read properly. Sorry. Forgot you said it searches the correct engine.
Edit: after a few Google searches, I can't find anything about search-goal.com, and the site has no information about itself either. My best guess is an app you installed is doing it. Uninstall anything you may have installed in the last week or so, and see if the problem goes away.
My suggestion would be to uninstall reinstall if that doesn't work, reflash the rom. I just went to search-goal.com on my pc and it looks dangerious. Im wasn't aware the homepage could be changed without user input, if you've installed any root access apps (essentially any apk files) id uninstall them.
Thanks for the suggestions. I tried uninstalling chrome. Got it uninstalled but had a heck of a time re-installing. It would NOT wipe /data/data/com.android.chrome. I finally removed that with TWRP. After reinstalling chrome it's still doing it. I've done an "install over" rom install (install, no data wipe) and it's still doing it. As much as I've tried to avoid it I think I'm going to have to wipe/reload/reinstall apps one by one. My last shot is I'm trying to find where the search engines are set up if it's a file somewhere to see if I can edit it.
Definitely malicious given the one time I tried to open it on a PC that I knew I could clean if I needed to it came up looking like a google clone.
Thankfully it's not actually loading that site so it's not doing anything but being annoying when I try to search.
same in my case -> solution
I had the same issue at my tf101 (at Team EOS rom) - and I was able to find the reason: in my case A.I. type keyboard app and the so called customized web search capabilities. When you remove this "feature" chrome search is back to normal.
Happy camper!

Many thanks be to timbetu! I shut off all my extra keyboards I was trying out. (FloatNSplit, GO, Hacker's, & Perfect Keyboard Free). That left the Android, ASUS, and Google voice typing turned on. Sure enough it went away! I was actively using FloatNSplit at the time. Will do some experimenting to find out if it was that one or another.
You have saved me from having to resetup my tablet!
:highfive:
EDIT: Also, dude, that's pretty awesome that your 1st post to XDA gets a thanks! Welcome to the forums!

I'm using floatnspin keyboard and that seems to be my issue. There is a setting for web searches and once I turned that off my browser worked normally again. I guess thats a new "feature".
Had the same problem, uninstalling the app fixed it. Please flag this app in Google play so Google can know about this! If you ask me, changing the default search engine without notifying the user is pretty nasty and malicious.
FloatNSplit and A.I. keyboard seems to be the same app.

I recognized this problem at my tablet and searched for an solution. During my search I found this topic here - but unfortunately without help. So I tried everything at my Asus and as I discovered the guilty app I just shared this finding with other affected users (because I knew of this thread).
