Still cannot respond to froum threads... - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Windows Mobile ROM De

I have duttys apr 16 release but as long as i can remember i cannot respond and type in the field boxes on forums. Is there some explorer settings i dont have set right?
I have searched and cannot find any reference to this..

I have no idea what you are talking about.
First Off You have a ROM created 3-4 days ago and "as long as you can remember" you've had a problem with it?
What are you trying to do. Maybe Tell more detail and we can help.
Also Post the Question in Duttys Thread where more people are and read.
I would request this thread be closed it serves to only dilute the Search function.

I think he means that when browsing the forum on the phone he is unable to type into the reply and search text boxes. He is currently using dutty's april 16 rom but means the problem has also been on all the roms he has used before this one also.
In my experience (I used Opera Mobile 8.65) when I click the search drop down, the text box will appear and when I start to type it will disappear. I don't fret though because even though I can't see the text, if I keep typing, everything will be there. I then click the search drop down again, see that everything I have typed is there and click search.

Hi,
You need to change options on XDA-Dev to use your ppc!
Quick Links\Edit options\Miscellaneous options\Message Editor interface, and choose there 'Basic Editor'
Now you can use your pda to reply in threads
Cheers,
Leo

Why is messaging typing so slow?

On nearly every ROM i have used so far the typing for messaging, be it an email or a text, just crawls along. It is so painful. I have to sit there and wait and wait for the words to catch up. I'm sure you all know what i'm referring to. I did a search and didn't find a thread about it, although i am sure a solution is out there. Much thanks i you can point me in the right direction.
EDIT: P.S. Please pardon my faux pas....i just now realized, i did not mean to post this to this forum. Mods if you would like to move to the main Raph forum please do so. Cheers!
Mod Edit: Added the cab from the Kaiser forum to speed up keyboard as it works on the Touch Pro as well.

try disabling xt9 and see what happens.
I've noticed the same issue here! Still haven't found a fix tho ;-\
Kewlj1313
not sure where "x"t9 is, but i am pretty sure i have any t9/word complete options turned off and it still crawls. I pretty much want to get rid of that black box that appears around my words above the input area...i think that's the culprit
Did you really disable word completion under settings / input ??
Not sure why this is such a stupid question, as i would be keen to know the answer myself. You can wait ages for the input to catch up, once you have finished typing. So if anyone can help on this, i too would be grateful.

I checked again and there was one more word complete in there somewhere that was not turned off....did a soft reset and it seems to be working normally Thanks for telling me to check again!
I have the same thing, too. When I slide open the phone and start typeing away, i have to let the letters catch up so I can see what I'm typing.
Kinda annoying...

Hello,
Could you please tell me where the other text completion format is?
I went to settings and messaging and turned that off as well as in the advanced config.
Thanks
Nevermind, it is still delayed for me
The settings are where karloe says earlier. Just check all the options and such everywhere in input settings, but i'm still getting delayed typing. It sucks

I've tried every tweak, etc. out there....i am guessing that not everyone is having this problem then?
Another thing i notice that is annoying is that when i create a word it tends to save that word in the "word memory" just above the typing box, and if i jump to another part of the message and it still has saved that last word i typed, it will insert that word if i put a space or type a letter. Also very annoying. I have no word complete's or anything are turned on.
Mine works just fine...
But typing was very slow on my old Mogul.

how to remove titles of apps?

im not sure if it is available to do yet but i am currently running 2.1 Eclair Hero Rom (Eugene373)
as currently with any ROM for example browser icon would show the 'browser' title. is there anyway that we can removing titling for the application shortcuts on the homescreen without using different UI (home replacements)?

I don't know if you can ... I know that when developing the app for example in eclipse, that is the first thing you do. you set the title of the app.
You like many other people are still posting these questions in development. I kindly ask if you can please read the first post in development. It explains where this post should be posted.
have a good day!
I don't know the answer I'm afraid but this would be better placed in the developers thread or even in Q&A.
Please take the time to read the stickied threads on the forum, the last one in particular.
Hope you find what your looking for.

Both me and Rooktard said we did not know the answer and was merely trying to move him to the appropriate place to post.
If people didn't understand where to post then we would never be able to find any roms or mods due to the amount of junk being posted anywhere. That is why the site managers wwent to the trouble of providing a structured format for each differing section.
The only true way to help them is by steering them onto the correct path making it a more enjoyable experience for everyone.

Here are a couple of things to try, not sure if any or all will work or not.
1. Use Bettercut or Anycut, choose edit an existing, then for your first icon that you want to remove the name for, replace it with one space (hit the spacebar once). For the second one, replace the name with two spaces. For the third, three spaces. And so on. I'm almost positive this one will work.
2. If #1 doesn't work, I'm not sure whether or not the homescreen recognizes HTML code or not. If it does, instead of using spaces, type the following instead of a space. You'll need to do this for each space you are trying to type (and do not type the quotation marks): " "
3. If #1 and #2 don't work, then hold down ALT and press the spacebar once. That should create a ANSI space. You'll want to do that for each space you're wanting to create.
Since I believe each icon on the homescreen has to have a different name (Don't have my phone right now to test it), that's why you'll need a different number of spaces for each name. In other words, the 1st icon would need 1 space, the 2nd icon would need 2 spaces, the 3rd icon would need four spaces, etc. That may not be entirely necessary, but it won't hurt anything either.
Please let me know which, if any, of these tricks work.
Wish I could test this and give you the exact answer. But I believe the first example works. Grab Anycut off the Market and give it a try.

[Q]Hide or Remove Start Menu Title?

Thanks chopper! I just tried this and it works, but only hides the start menu text and not the title of running programs.
Cool.
Now search for your other conquest. You may have to word it in many different ways.

Just wondering, what search terms did you use to come across that file? This might help me on my voyage!
"remove start text on windows mobile task bar"
just didn't see anything on running program text. Maybe someone will roll along and say whether it is doable or not.

I missed that detail for a while.

Wish people would give the links out and not say "search for it, its out there". I searched google and asked twice on the forum, nothing. If it can't be done fine, but if it can people need to show others.
Also still wondering if this is possible..
Use any music editing software(audacity etc) or Myxer.com and create an .mp3(I think .wav too, I'm not sure) file of the part of the song that u want as a ringtone. It has to be less than 39secs and less than 1MB. Then save the file anywhere on your computer(I save mine where I have my other music). Go to Zune software and locate the file that you made, right click it and change the genre to Ringtone(I had to type mine out) then then sync it to your device and you should be able to set it as a ringtone.

I can tell you what I did. I followed the instructions in the Mango Tips & Tricks thread. First you need to make sure your intended is less than 40 seconds long & less than 1 MB in size. Also, make sure it's a MP3 or WMA. To do this, used a audio editing software. I used AVS Audio Converter6 (Paid for app). Than load it into Zune by putting it in a folder being monitored by Zune for music. You can check in Zune settings which folders are watched & add or remove folders as needed. Now in the Zune software, find the file & right click on it. Click on Edit, than click the Genre field & type in Ringtone. Than just drag it to the WP7 icon at the buttom of Zune. On your WP7 device, go to the ringtones settings & it'll show up at the top of the list under "Custom". It'll be named by filename btw.

Custom Ringtones
1. Copy MP3 or WMA to Zune Collection. Choose Edit, and type in manually under Genre "Ringtone". The song must be less than 40 seconds and smaller than 1MB.
2. Go to Settings -> Ringtones + Sounds, tap Ringtone. Your custom ringtone will appear under a new tree called "Custom", above "Windows Phone"
Note that it is identified by the filename, rather than the track title.
Also, you can tap and HOLD a ringtone, and Delete will be offered (but only on the Custom ones; preloaded ones grey out delete).

I can see and empathise with TooSlo's frustration here - he's asking if its possible to create alert tones and folks are beating him up for it and sending him info on how to create ring tones. Unfortunately, you can't use ringtones for the various alert tones.
I suppose a hack is possible. It may be as easy as finding the appropriate category and editing the metadata (like you do with Ringtones).
same problem ive had searching for custom alerts.. nobody understands the question.
is there any way to make the question clearer for people to understand what were after? i say that in a non-sarcastic manner truly

I can't find any information that allows for custom alerts. I've been looking for this as well.
Not tried in latest Mango but I did in 7712
Sideload Touch Explorer and send yourself the tone you want but rename as ALERT 10 etc (we have to overwrite one of the built in ones)
Open the email and download the attachment then using Touch Ecplorer look in the volatile folders and you will see your file then copy and paste to the windows folder.
You may have to open the email and open attachment a few times before it shows in volatile but you will find it eventually
Hope this helps
That's more or less the same thing you have to do in Mango, but with provxmls. Follow this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1238519
You can try this: Advanced Configuration Tool 1.3.0.0 beta available - for Mango only
That app have this option.
Just to let everyone know I have just reflashed my HD2 to Mango 7720, and used the email, copy and paste to windows folder and it still works
To be more precise email yourself a wma file and call it something like Alert-10.wma the open your email and download then play the attachment.
Then press home key and open touch explorer and navigate to APPLICATION DATA then VOLATILE and then EMAILATTACHMENTS and look in any folders you find here then using touch explorer copy and paste the file to the WINDOWS folder and overwrite.
Then set alert 10 as your chosen tone (or whatever number you used) and hey presto
looks like us without htc have to find an alternative to modify the filesystem? it seems touch explorer only works on htc devices for the time being. I did test out the advanced config tool, but it doesnt seem to have privs to modify much of anything yet
anyone else have luck on LG?

The problem here is that you and many others who have posted how to make ringtones haven't bothered to understand what the original post was asking. This is what is wrong with forums these days. You do a google search and you get a question asked in a forum and instead of any good info, you get a senior member "beating up" some guy for arriving at their site. If you do not want to answer questions then don't post. These types of forums are meant to be a help, so be HELPFUL. At least post a link that answers the question, not a google search that will bring them right back to their question.
The original post WAS NOT asking how to make ringtones; we all knew how to do that before Mango was released. The question was the ALERTS that WP7 uses for SMS, MMS, email and alarms. I too was doing my own footwork when I came upon this question. And of course like many other responses to my google search, they all talk about RINGTONES. I did however find on this forum a post that might answer this one's question.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1368361
The answerer mentions using something called touchxperience/touchxplorer, but does not go into any detail as to how he was able to accomplish this.
I can imagine I'll go to that post and reply as to how he did it and some senior member will beat me up and say something about how I should do my own research.
BE HELPFUL!! Please.

i had used heathcliff's file deployer and deployed to /my documents/my ringtones (i think it was a .wma)
then changed the registry path for sms ringtones to point to the file. i think i used wp root tools to change the registry entry since it was easier than finding it in the registry.

I tried it last month and all of the filesystem tools I had attempted were unable to make modifications. I tried Advanced explorer, diagprovxml(I think this was for maybe getting the wifi tether working..), and another one that I cannot recall at the moment. None of these were able to successfully modify the files properly.
LG still no go for me, unless someone else has gotten it to work since I last tried?

That is out dated information neither Touch experince nor Touch explorer are currently working on Mango. Supposedly there is a beta version that works on Mango but you have to donate and ask the dev to be a beta tester and wait and see if he actually responds. Have noticed this since April of last year. The other day I tried again with all the browsers I have installed on my WiFi ICS Xoom: built in, Chrome beta, Firefox, & Dolphin HD. Same old, same old. If I want to search I have to leave the tablet and find my laptop. Usually the extra effort keeps me from diddling around
Pretty sure the last time I checked into this it didn't matter which site version I enable for XDA - same problem. Heck, I also remember I couldn't even log in and stay logged in. No idea about that status of that issue.

Same thing happens to me on my xoom as well as my Galaxy S2.
If i'm on either of these, I click on the 'search this forum' drop down tool bar, but I don't click on the text box as that pulls up the keyboard resulting in the drop down going away again.
When the search tool bar drops down, instead of the text box, click on 'Advanced Search' option just below it, this lets you enter your search term on a separate page. (You don't have to fill in the advanced sections).
It's a bit long-winded but has the desired affect without having to fire up your PC/Laptop.
It happens to me as well. I just click on the advanced search and search that way. Chrome Beta is the only mobile browser where the search function works correctly on XDA...at least that I'm aware of.
Anyone tried reporting this to the Admins?

It has a better chance of being fixed if one of the site admins see's it.

Click to collapse
Thanks. This works for me till a better fix comes along.
