Tried to do that a few weeks ago when One XL #3 took a crap, but the One had just come out and it supposedly wasn't in the CSR's system. I ended up with XL #4, which, so far is working great (and is now rooted and S-off - hurray!).
Good luck with your One!

Nope. I did relock and RUU back to stock each time, but I didn't bother changing the CID back or anything. Heck, the most recent one was S-off.
I haven't had any ROM related issues, though. It was always hardware.

I have not read a single instance on here of AT&T denying warranty service, or even giving a poo at all, about unlocked bootloader or custom ROM being on a phone. But lots of reports of folks here successfully sending in "tampered" phones for warranty service on a hardware issue.

I'm thinking about it, but I'm not going to take it apart until I'm sure I'm sticking with the One and all is well.
FWIW, HTC is not blocking the One, whether or not AT&T ever plans to ask them to. Looks like the rumors were wrong.
The international One roms work great on the AT&T version. I don't think I'm ever going back to an AT&T base.
Also, the frustrating multitasking issues on the One X? Not a sign of them on the One. :victory:

This is a prewarning for anyone still nieve enough to accept an ota before its been torn down and examined. The One X, brother device(EVO 4g LTE) recently received an ota that SIGNIFICANTLY improved security on the device. Changes included a new hboot(as seen in the new hox ruu leaked) along with other patches, any EVO that was not previously s OFF can no longer use the s OFF exploit, lazypanda. On top of that, EVO and hox were both able to flash radios and kernals with the unlocked bootloader. The EVO, s on with unlocked bootloader can NO LONGER flash radios or kernals. Recoveries only. I am posting this to make the community aware that this update WILL most likely implement the same security changes that were put on EVO LTE owners.
If you accept the ota, you will likely:
Lose ability to flash kernals, and radios
Lose ability to use a s OFF exploit if it becomes available on the current(non updated) hboot.
Do thank the person bringing the ruu leak to xda for developers to examine and warning us of the soon to come ota. If it weren't for him, it would just show on our devices and a good percentage would accept, clogging our forums with help me threads. Check out the ruu leak thread to thank.

Not talking about devs, who contribute something to the overall environment (I would never refer to devs as "clowns"). I'm talking about the people who start fooling around with their phones without knowing what they're doing, brick them, then post things like "Will AT&T know what I did if I return this for a warranty replacement?"
And, whether the carriers can afford it (they can) isn't the point. It's that these folks motivate the carriers to make their phones ever more locked down in order to avoid having to deal with these bogus exchanges.
Wait, you got that wrong, reason we are getting more bricked phones is because the security on this device is NEW. Can't figure it out if you don't try, trying consists of trial and error. Well you know the sweetest of the story....
Sent from my HTC One XL using xda app-developers app
For every guy that takes a risk and flashes something that might achieve s off, 10 people have returned their phone because the email doesn't work, or the screen is too yellow, or its too quiet.. or loud. Do you see what I'm sayin?
Normal people don't root.. they just complain. So HTC locking down the phone more isn't preventative measures for tech support or return rates... Its just HTC being sloppy. Next it'll be that source is being delayed because they don't want people to brick their phones lol

Thanks, good looking out. Some people will heed your warnings, others wont. I'm afraid this would be a little harder to overcome than the 1.85 fiasco when everyone updated before there was a root exploit. If HTC is playing with the security like this then that is a little scary to me. Damn i wish i had a little birdy at HTC. Maybe samsung is the future for rooted devices. Maybe google will open Motorola up. HTC is goin backwards

Yeah, it's definitely a concern to me. I wish they would understand and just make it easy to do. The unlock site.could have an optional S-off to go with it. I would think it would be pretty easy for these guys to design a device to be very dev friendly, and also easy to recover if/when things go bad.

I really love this phone but the build quality that HTC use to be SOOO well known for seems to have gone out the window. I bought the AT&T One X when it first came out and had to have it replaced atleast 3 different times before my 30 days were up due to a number of different issues. The last one I got I've had for probably 2 months now and everything had been great up until a couple days ago. About a quarter of the way up the screen from the bottom does not recognize touch. If I use an app or something to draw a line down the screen, when I get to that spot it leaves a blank area and then the line starts again when I get past that area. One whole row on the keyboard I can't use any of the letters and atleast one of those letters is part of my gmail address so I can't enter it. When I'm scrolling in say the settings menu, the screen will be real jittery if my finger goes into the area where it's dead at or it will think I'm pressing instead of scrolling and randomly open up menus or apps. I do have insurance on the phone but I know it's not something they will swap in store since I'm past my 30 days so it will have to probably have to be sent for repair and I can almost guarantee they will update it to the latest release so I won't be able to root or anything else. Just curious if anyone else has had issues with the touch screen going out on there One X?

You may not believe this but I've had 10 One X's and all have had problems. 5 were exchanged in store during the 30 days and 5 were sent as warranty replacements. The one I have now seems to be the most usable but there are still a bunch of problems (wifi signal fluctuates a ton, loud rattling noise when using vibrate). I've never seen a phone this nice but with so many quality control issues. All of the One X's I've had have gotten really hot with use.
Sent from my One X using xda app-developers app
ive never had any problems with this phone whatsoever, (Knock on wood) other than getting alittle warm playing a game while its charging
I feel your pain, bro. I purchased my Intl One X at full price at the time, which was $669.00 USD. It died two weeks later when the charging/data port stopped working. I sent it into HTC and after many phone calls to Tier 2 escalations and 2 months, they finally told me they could not repair my phone because of an Apple injunction on importing the motherboards to the US. This is how I came to be with the One XL.
The whole experience was IMO completely ridiculous and I've never experienced such horrible customer service from any company ever. They even tried to charge me to diagnose the problem with my phone. I fought them and got them to pay for the fee themselves. If I had paid it, would they have refunded it a month later when they told me that they couldn't fix my phone? Doubt it!
I got to use my original One X for a full two weeks before it died. Spent 2 months badgering HTC America about where my phone is, when is it going to be fixed, whats wrong with it, etc... only to be told "Sorry, you're ****ed!"
This story repeats itself tons of times in the One X forums from many different users. While I think the One XL is sweet (only because of LTE, if I had to use HSPA+ I'd still be really pissed and probably wouldve just sold it) I'll never buy or recommend HTC again.
Yeah I'm on my third now. Speaker keeps dying. Volume is so low that it's impossible to hear anything.
Htc fanboys might hate apple and samsung as much as they want but truth is that none of those companies have customers that still have problems with their phone even after getting the 10th replacement

Apple? Sure. But Samsung? No. I just bought the HTC One X because I replaced my Galaxy S III so many times for various problems that AT&T would not exchange it anymore. Also, my third Nexus 7 is on the way. I think quality control has gone downhill across the board.
Sadly I shattered my X's screen :crying: and I'm going to get it replaced with my insurance, they send me the new phone and I send them the broken one back. I dropped my current phone a few days before the screen shattered and it's just been buggy as hell, it's barely been usable since. Plus I got a defective model in the first place with the WiFi issue which at this point is getting to be the most annoying thing ever. I guess I shouldn't have waited to get a replacement, I was too afraid I'd get a new one with the update but now it seems like it's going to be a very slim chance of getting one without the update

Just realized how lucky I am... My phone dropped from 3 stories into wood... Amazingly I have no issues, just a slightly blue tint on a pinkie sized part of the screen only visible when there's a Grey background and a scratch on the top corner of the chassis. Of course it probably helped I had a zagg screen protector which is scratched slightly at the top.

Hey guys,
Time for a little advice. I have the HTC One XL on ATT, and began to notice sever screen rippling on the sides and middle of my device. So, naturally, I called warranty and had it replaced. That replacement came back with screen ripples worse than the original device. So I called again, and they overnighted a second replacement. Just came in this morning. 3 dead pixels, and a prominent ripple effect along the left side of the device towards the middle.
I've heard stories about getting it switched for another device, but is that even possible? What are your guy's thoughts?

They're definitely good at sending the replacements, no lies there. Only problem is that they're defective upon arrival.. Which isn't good at all.
I don't want them to keep sending replacements if they're all going to be broken, ya know?
P.S.- I thought that since this was more of an issue and advice kind of thing, that maybe general would be a good idea? Not exactly asking a direct question. I've been on XDA for a while, I know the rules.

If you happen to have a AT&T Device Support Center near you, I believe they will swap it out for you right there: http://www.att.com/esupport/article.jsp?sid=KB91429&cv=820#fbid=raRvhaTUUJr
Its not official policy to let you switch to a different phone. But I've heard of cases where they will do it, if you've gone through several bad refurbs, and b1tch loud enough at the right people. Having multiple lines, long time customer etc. helps also.
I think the One X is fundamentally a good phone, and HTC makes good hardware. As mentioned before, its probably a matter of the fact that you are getting refurbs and not new ones. Its a bit odd that you have had 3 phones with the exact same issue. Maybe the screens get damaged when they fix the phones and re-assemble them?

Device Support Center is 6 hours away unfortunately
That was my thought. When I got my One X new, it wasn't having the screen issues. Then they started appearing. So I called and got the replacement.
Granted, I know that all screens are going to flex if you press on them. That's just a given. But the One X (As told by HTC themselves) should not have as severe flex as I've been getting on all 3 devices. That isn't right.
I guess I'll call and see. We have 3 lines on the plan right now, and my family has been on ATT since it was called Cingular. So I'll see what happens. three phones just doesn't cut it when they all break
EDIT: Just got off the phone. They're sending a third replacement overnight. If this third one doesn't work, they're giving me a free make/model change. Hopefully this replacement is good though, I love the One X

Right. That's what I was saying. The poster above my first post is not a mod.

The reason why it happens is probably because you're getting refurbs which are basically returned devices that were only checked to see if they turned on and did not have major damage.
I would press for constant replacement until you get a perfect device.

Right? I called today and they said it was ridiculous that I've been getting defective replacements. The guy said he's gonna send me one more, and if it's broken that he'll give me a free make/model change.

Just got my third one today. All three were defective. So we'll see what happens tomorrow when AT&T calls me and I'll see which phone they're gonna let me get.

Who knows? I'm gonna ask for the One X+, and see if they'll let me go that route. But who knows honestly. But there's a good chance I'll be leaving the One X unfortunately :/

That's my plan. Demand the One X+, or even the GSIII if I have to. But I will not take another refurbished phone. The guy says a free make/model change was in order if this 3rd device came faulty, which it did.

I had something similar happen to me but I have a replacement center near by so I wouldn't of left until I got a good phone

This is why I refuse to get anything refurbished. I'd rather spend extra money for something that wasn't previously screwed up..
Who wants to bet that these refurbs he's been getting were previously ICJ bricks... Anyone?

They told me they would do the same and at the time the only phone that was close was the sgs3 but they said I couldn't have that one. They gave me a choice of like 3 old phones. I was pretty pissed.

After 10 replacements not one was in "good" condition until the one I have now. But now that I think about it the more I can see the reason this one also was returned by someone and just sent back out by AT&T without checking or fixing it. It's extremely laggy at times for no apparent reason even after a factory reset and rom change and the vibration rattles pretty loudly. I never can notice a difference with the custom kernels set to 2.1ghz. Seems the same as 1.5. Those seem to be the major things. I wasn't looking for those problems tho.
The problems the other phones had were mostly screen and build problems. Overheating also.
Anyways, that's why I left AT&T and now use Straight Talk and buy my phones straight up and unlocked.

Who knows what this guy will say. The One X is a high quality phone. I guess it all depends on the rep you get because I've heard reports of people getting credit on their account, and a guy got the GS3. But I won't settle for anything less than the One X
I just wanted to post this for all of you considering getting a new phone on AT&T, such as the One, S4, Blackberry, etc. According to what I have read, it looks like AT&T is starting a promotion tomorrow that will give an instant $100 or more credit toward a new phone of your choice when you trade in your old working smart phone, ( 3 years old or less). This may help in the decision making process for many people.

not sure if its worth returning the gs4 and re-buying it again using a trade in.... when i could sell the trade in phone for 200 on CL and making my phone free....
I do have a old captivate... I wonder what condition does it have to be in?

I got $160 for my og note. The Sales Rep kept doing something on her tablet and my phone keypad til she got $160. paid like 86 bucks for my s4.

It is true. It starts tomorrow May 1st. Bring in any smartphone 3 years and newer in working condition, no cracked screens, etc. and receive $100 towards the purchase of a smartphone $199 or more.

I'm starting to hate AT&T even more. I recently tried to get an early upgrade (60 days away) & was turned down over the phone. It really pissed me off since I've been a long time customer in good standing. Pissed me off so much, I've been considering going to TMO & now they do this to me. Hopefully this last for more than 30 days since they won't budge unless im within 30 days or less.
Can you trade in a rooted and unlocked phone that has been flashed?
I want the S4 pretty badly and I want to trade in my 1 year old HTC One X but I unlocked, rooted and flashed this thing.

So re-lock and unroot it?
You can probably sell the phone for way more on eBay or some other places. It's not worth giving it to att.

Took in my 2 year old gs2 and picked up 100 off the s4. Just reverted to stock from aokp. Dont think it was worth the hassle of selling on ebay.

does anyone know how extensively they check the phone at the store? My phone works perfectly except that for some reason I can't get any service on it. I've tried fixing and troubleshooting for a while but have given up so I'm looking to get back some money for it. So does anyone know if they will check the phone for reception?

I removed the sim from mine and it was at the setup screen (touch the android) and that was it. It was only checked to be sure it would power on and nothing further.

Thanks for the quick responses, I really appreciate it and am glad I'll be able to at least get something for it. Thanks again
Do i need to revert to stock to trade in?
What if I have CM10 running on my GS2? Honestly, they should give me more money for that (because it is more than functional)

I wouldn't think its necessary based on my experience this morning. They just checked to see if it lit up when turned on.
Does anyone know if they would accept a CDMA version of iPhone 4?? I have one sitting around collecting dust. Great condition.

They check the imei/serial number on them. You can check on the website and see if it will work.
