Hello to all,
I am here today to ask you why the Samsung does not release the source code, have been released for the Galaxy SIII Mini which has the same processor Novator U8500 and why but we do not have anything yet, maybe it will be a topic a bit useless but if you know why do not hesitate to write
Edit. The source code are here: Source Code for GT-I9070 and GT-I9070P
I think they know about that... and I presume these are not the sources they are looking for..
Nice, but I think that devs has knowledge about this... I think that those drivers are not enough for some issues in CM-based ROMs.
They'd have probably know this before hand

Those are the kernel sources not the cpu sources. Novathor is from st ericsson and not from samsung. Samsung must relase the kernel sources because android is open source but ste is free to relase or not their cpu sources

Not to mention, the galaxy s3 mini has a novathor, but of a different series. Not U8500.

Let's Spam OSRC TEAM / Request for New Kernel Source Code for Galaxy S Advance device
Looks like we do not need a special thread to make a request the source code of the kernel, to TIM OSRC samsung, because there is already a thread that has been recommended by the engine of this forum when I was trying to make a new thread. Perhaps you can do to participate as well. Here ....!!!
And also you can report the latest results of our efforts in this thread too, I guess. Hopefully it can become a reality.
Regards.
It's a great idea to spam Sammy in request for the newest sources...sinces they have had the chance to update the kernel recently (compiled in January, released in Jule almost August?? sounds fishy...) They maybe know something we don't...maybe theres official kitkat after all...hell maybe theres Android L at the end of the tunnel, yeah i'm specula...i'm fantasizing...but i don't really see why suddenly update a device that is EOL since 4.1.2, 2 years ago.
We have the sources the user from china uploaded here on new year's eve but i thing no one has used them...or has used them to rewrite their own from scratch....so maybe new sources directly from samsung is both legally and perfomance wise for our phone.
Novafusion guys (maclaw) started spam sammy with an "example" message, and apparently it worked...i don't know if they have something new but they got a letter from sammy saying they would update sources.
I think the best way would be that...create a message that we just C&P spammin Sammy OSRC till they release something, but then again, just my 2 cents.

I am aware of that also, problem is, who can we ask for sources...best case scenario Sammy releases their ST sources, but theres the legal barrier that altough neither Ericcson nor STMicroelectronics are taking liability of both the sources and the R&D invested, Novathor and all things related are now a STMicroelectronics product...and they are having a hard time.
From my PPOV, STM is gonna keed everything closed, use it later to make a new plataform (i think theyre with NEC now or some Chinese subsidiary in a joint venture), i really don't know if after a time of not using the plataform or by being cancelled they have to legally open their sources...or if theres a "expiration date" on them.
Since Sammy uses Novathor in 3 or 4 phones and Sony used it in almost all their phones in 2012(?) we are left with whats being already used.
I don't have any knowledge about the content of the leaked sources from the Xperia forum that the guy from China uploaded but i thought for a while they were just as good as our devs had already built isn't?

Not sure that STMicroelectronics cares much about Android anymore, other competitors didn't won anything from competing against Qualcomm and Samsung (with the Exynos), because they haven't done any major advances in performance or power consumption, also, Google strongly favors Qualcomm CPUs, they even use them on their Nexus devices for the most part (except Nexus 7 I think, because it uses NVIDIA Tegra, if I remember correctly), hope you remember Texas Instruments, big player, choosed to part ways with Android and most of their ARM stuff.
I wrote this on the other thread requesting kernel source. Unless Samsung has the igloo 3.4 kernel converted/hacked to work on janice (which was a rumor when we heard that was preparing a 4.2/4.3 OTA) hidden somewhere in Korea and they release that, not sure anything they could release would made a major impact on performance or battery duration.
What we are missing? Hm, a proper RIL (that is not the one I made, but should work with most Samsung libril.so's), and maybe some access to the Samsung Secondary bootloader (they won't release that even if they were drunk and on drugs)

I do not think so. I have noticed before, that the source code from the list of site pages OSRC there are only 20 sources for variant GT-I9070. And with the addition of a new source code told by them yesterday via email, the list has now become 21 source code.

Guys, before I answer your questions and refer to those concerned about the (current) of course. There are some things we have to think about it together. namely:
1. Our developers for now almost many are turning to other devices. It was miserable.
2 Only a few people (or more) that has a device janice from the developers had in this forum.
3 For this moment (maybe) we will still get a ROM update for Janice (Either Codina), but it was developed without a device (Surely "Janice experiment") is supposed by the developer. This is ironic. You can imagine how a carpenter make a house without equipment repairman? It was impossible guys!.
4 Related to your question above, then that should answer that, perhaps @Rox or @Paul L.
5. Honestly I will feel less excited again for a peek every thread of this forum, immediately after hearing the news that uncomfortable. Sorry for that.
Oh, yes, don't forget to always hope for the good of Janice. Because I've always believed in the magic of his.

Vendors don't release proprietary driver source code unless you are covered by an NDA. You aren't going to get it. I got Marvell to give me source code once but under an NDA and it was extremely difficult to do and took a long time. Also, since I was under an NDA it which meant I had the code but could not disclose any of it or give it to anyone else, period. Sorry, but those tweets will just be wasted key presses.
sorry, guys, nagging nvida will get you nowhere!
I'm curious as to why people imagine this might happen? Is there a precedent that h/w vendors for Android platforms have released source for drivers? Or released specs (like register maps) for hardware? Some h/w vendors don't even write drivers for h/w - that's what gives embedded C programmers like me job security (I've been involved in plenty of NDAs like mentioned above).
So what is the "norm" for the Android platform?
Maybe, Just Maybe

Hi guys,
I recently complained to htcdev about the kernel source not being released and I threatened legal action as they are in violation of GPL. Here is what they came back with:
Dear Rohan Mathur,
Thank you for contacting HTC. I will gladly assist you with your request for the kernel source code for your HTC One X.
New source codes are typically posted to the HTC developer site within 90-120 days after a new device is released or after an update is released for the phone. In most cases it will not take this long for the source code to be made available Rohan. The kernel source code for teh One X will be posted as soon as we have it ready for the developer community.
Please check back from time to time on the developer site for the One X source code. HTC does their best to make the kernel source code available as soon as possible for all HTC devotees and android enthusiasts. For more information and other developer resources, be sure to check other areas of our developer site from http://www.htcdev.com/ .
I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause Rohan, and I hope that this will not detract from your overall use and enjoyment of the One X until the kernel source code is made available. Thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter.
If you have other questions for me Rohan, please don't hesitate to reply. We are open from 6am to 1am eastern time, 7 days a week. Please include your serial number or IMEI from menu> settings> about> phone identity> with all support requests.
Take care Rohan, and have a great weekend!

I don't understand why AT&T would do that. What's in it for them to make then wait? Eventually it will be released. I mean I just can't understand who the are trying to screw but not releasing it. It can't be developers because they wouldn't want to lose sales. I'm sure they don't care who buys the phone, developer or not.

Hello guys, with your help, i think we could pressure samsung to release their ICS test builds (with RAM issues) - if they even exist in the first place.
To help, you just have to follow extremely simple steps:
STEP 1:
Enter this website..
STEP 2:
Fill all the required fields.
And insert the following in the message section (Credits to Hetalk):
Dear customer service representative
From previous conversations and official samsung updates, I understand Samsung did try to get ICS working for this device(Samsung S LCD GT-I9003).
It would be really helpful to developers, who are helping a lot of device owners, have a taste of this wonderful version of android, if samsung can help supply whatever source code they had when they tried to get ICS working for this phone.
It will also underline samsung's commitment to their customers of providing them best experience and support.
Hopefully, you will look into this and do the correct thing by supplying source codes, to make sure we stay samsung customer when we plan a new device.

Or you could be more rude (no swearing, just more aggressive), you can edit that message to suit your needs, and level of anger

The answer will *probably* be "We don't have plans to update the GT-I9003 to ICS.
Post the answer in this topic so we take a look at how they're reacting to the huge requests.
Now, reply to that message with the following (Credits to Hetalk):

STEP 5:
Please share this topic with anyone that cares, upload the link in your signature, tell your friends and family!
The main key of success here is numbers, huge complaints = Samsung will probably notice us.
Good luck.

That depends, in new valuepacks, touchwiz itself shows how bad it's optimized.
They simply don't want to waste their time with our device, so getting the things they already worked on for developers is enough i guess.

Email sent, albeit a fairly polite one, for a start.
Message:
According to Samsung the device won't receive an ICS update because of RAM issues, but did samsung even develop a working (or partially working) ICS build to find out the RAM issues in the first place ?
If so is there any possibilities for making those source codes open source for download?
Developers in XDA are currently porting CM9 to this device, and those sources (If even available) might be helpful to finally get a working ICS custom ROM.
I do understand that it's not Samsung's job to help with such stuff, but if the work is there sharing it would be helpful.

Actually they have wasted so much time to give updates from 2.3.4 to 2.3.6 firmware update. I think it's true. He posted twice about the stolen source though... TeamCanjica should be ashamed of what they're doing.
First rule: don't believe in all you read on Internet. And thehacka1 is not TC MEMBER.

I don't entirely believe it, since I thought they were working really well together and now this comes up ._.

See it. It's about OMX fixes for Kitkat. I don't known who is right. You also can see about thehacka1
https://github.com/thehacka1/android_frameworks_native/commits/cm-11.0
thehacka1 had DDos to server of Maclaw to steal source i think it's a bad job. And about Maclaw Studio is say them will public source when it is clean
Marcin says:
As you can see, it's not well-organised yet and we just wanted to improve some things before public release, why we haven't done this yet? We have a private life, school, work etc. but unfortunely mr. thehacka must have destroyed our plans and leaked the current version which probably won't even work by the way.
I'm not even angry anymore, I'm just sad because community is doing everything to destroy our trust in them. Leaking WIP and DDoSing our servers? Seems like fun.

Yes okay but we can share what we feel about this, cause this could massively affect development of the ace 2. If you don't like sharing then you don't have to look at this thread

Basically, from what I know, TC and TheHacka1 "stole" some sources (not really the right word).
Put it this way, Maclaw took open sources, tweeked them and then made them closed sources so TC couldn't get to them. Which as far as I am aware, that's against the law as android is an open source project.
So basically, to put it simply, it was Maclaws fault.
EDIT: Stole is the wrong word. According to Rox, a member of Maclaws team let them into his website.

Really? This thread? I can see that "what we feel" on at least 3 thread
And probably no one care about what we feel since we have nothing to do

I agree that it probably is wrong to discuss on the dev threads, and no one does care about our opinions, but its a good place to share what we think about it with other people who feel the same way. Like it or not this is a big issue, we can't just stay silent as if it never happened

You got cm11, one rox's one maclaw. All you think about is how TC should be shameful? You better stop using rox's roms then. Go buy an s3 mini and stay out of our way. You make us ace 2 users feel ashamed.

Stop now, I know i don't have the right but we all just be a bystander can't know right and wrong. Do not make things more confusing, Listen and follow-up, i really think the rox or maclaw they were among the best developed for ace 2. This may be a misunderstanding i really want the two man continued to work for us :laugh:
Sorry my bad english
TheHacka1 "stole" the source code from Maclaw and TC take what TheHacka1 "offer" I don't think it's stealing. Because one of the member Maclaw betrayed(?) their team....let's just forget this:fingers-crossed:
Really? I'm very sad to hear it
Stupid topic....
What is wrong with? Do you really care about who developed rom for you? If is working perfectly = you are happy user if not=you are sad user. Only few % peple ask who is developer. Get life.
Chill people

Agreed in 100% with @mateuszcom
If You want to banish him, just use PM button, not "new topic".
? Wysłane z Ace'a II ?
Yes ... Finally... Don't talk about this in dev thread but this thread

Okay, so someone should close this thread already. I mean, it's getting in everyone's nerves the more we say out our thoughts. Obviously, people have different thoughts about it and I must say there are some "true" points in this thread, but I should agree that we should've not discussing such thing here. Just hoping the best for them (TC, Maclaw, and other people involved) and the development of CM11 for Ace II keeps on going
Stupid wars... both teams should work together to improve firmware for our loved ACE II
