s5p6442 spec sheets from samsung? - Galaxy 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all....I just saw this post
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/broadcom-to-aid-developers-working-on-the-galaxy-y/
I remember our devs talking that the s5p6442 datasheets not being available on the net, which is really slowing the dev work.
In line with the above link, can we start a similar campaign to ask samsung to release the required datasheets??

Pointless. XDA are .2 percent of all users, they don't give a rat's ass. We've been through this on the Epic fora.

killjoy much
Vendors don't release proprietary driver source code unless you are covered by an NDA. You aren't going to get it. I got Marvell to give me source code once but under an NDA and it was extremely difficult to do and took a long time. Also, since I was under an NDA it which meant I had the code but could not disclose any of it or give it to anyone else, period. Sorry, but those tweets will just be wasted key presses.
sorry, guys, nagging nvida will get you nowhere!
I'm curious as to why people imagine this might happen? Is there a precedent that h/w vendors for Android platforms have released source for drivers? Or released specs (like register maps) for hardware? Some h/w vendors don't even write drivers for h/w - that's what gives embedded C programmers like me job security (I've been involved in plenty of NDAs like mentioned above).
So what is the "norm" for the Android platform?
Maybe, Just Maybe

So you really think that after sending them the above message they are going to say what? "Sure, we know we can't code so here, take all of our hard work and make it work cause we are idiots!" You have a better chance of getting the answers from the CIA.

very interesting...

Somewhat interesting, I have registered on the new Developer site, however it seems to be geared more towards app developers, with little of use to those doing platform work (AOSP bringups including Cyanogenmod porting, kernel development, etc.)
There are no IC datasheets, and no source code for test firmwares such as UCKL2 for the Infuse (SGH-I997).
Stickied for the time being
Thanks for the news. I will check it out to see if it is a good choice for beginning devs. It might also be interesting for me to learn more specifically regarding my Samsung phone.
does it mean,
some people develop ROM or app together?

Very well said! It seem like Samsung have just discovered all the free work force to produce code that is much better than their own. Now they wanna tap into this, without giving anything of value in return.
How about dropping some spec-sheets on the HW level and some source code to their drivers, instead!?
Damnit, i'll have to learn some programming now! To the Batmobile!
+1 for "spec-sheets on the HW level and some source code to their drivers"
..especially for devices like Galaxy 3 (i5800/i5801), which (apparently), you are not going to update now on.
Sounds Cool
sounds pretty interesting, ill check out the youtube video.
Thanks for the news.
Would be nice if the video talked specifically about developing ROMs, especially AOSP-based...

Requesting binary ics drivers from nvidia

Hey guys as many of us are aware, us relying on carriers and handset manufacturers to release os updates is almost pointless. There are many other devices that are ics capable yet won't be upgraded do to carriers and phone manufacturers. What the sgs2 community did was request drivers from qualcomm and they provided. I think with enough community support nvidia will as well. We are one driver away from complete ics goodness, no more crashes or bugs. I searched Google and saw that this community has already contacted nvidia here: http://forums.developer.nvidia.com/devforum/discussion/1726/tegra-2-source-code/p1 and here: http://forums.developer.nvidia.com/devforum/discussion/comment/3236?Sort=popular
So let's group together and work as a team to convince nvidia they will be doing a great service to our community, it will only strengthen their presence in the android community by doing so.
Any developers here have suggestions on persuading nvidia to support us and have them notice us? I think their dev forum is a good start, also social media may help. I wonder how many g2x owners are still out there?
lets make our voices heard and finish what we started.

Their revunue in 2010 is like 3.2billion..
I don't think our million $ of phone on XDA even matter to nVidia.

Quick edit, did anyone else notice the guy saying that Nvidia is trying to release the binaries for Tegra 2 Dual Cores in 2012? He posted this in November 2011:
Hello Android Development Community
We appreciate all the interest and passion surrounding the NVIDIA Tegra Platform and we take our support for the development community seriously. NVIDIA has been working with Google and Motorola to provide the open source community with the required drivers and other binary code to build full Android OS images for the Tegra 2 powered "Motorola Xoom". We expect Google to make those components available as part of the Android Open Source Project soon.
In addition, NVIDIA is working on a full release of Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) for our Tegra 2 Dual Core and Tegra 3 Quad Core reference devices to be made available early next year. This release package will comprise of binary code, drivers developed on our reference platforms and any patches necessary to ensure stability & performance with ICS. We hope the open source community can leverage this release for their work on all Tegra devices.

But I'm a little confused, why, then, is everyone worried about receiving these binaries? Or am I not reading this correctly?

The same issue has been beaten to death on XDA and elsewhere. I am pissed-off that those who newly raise this issue haven't done their homework, they just ignorantly post what has already been dealt with and are using up/wasting bandwidth and storage. The same for others who ask without researching/looking first to determine if the answer to their question exists before they ask. I've stopped answering questions which have been answered many times already. That may be perceived by some as arrogant/harsh/mean/etc. but that's OK, they can keep answering the same questions over and over and over and over and over... again.

XobotOS

I know we've locked bootloader but I think the XobotOS would be interesting for someone who have hope....
it's an android 4.0 compiled by C# with huge of speed gain.
The meaning? It's still in observation.

Not saying it will be of any help to us, but I am a huge fan of this project... Mostly because I find Java terribly cumbersome and inefficient... It's my least favorite of all languages
I sent the source files posted to github to a very experienced developer on the photon forum and he seemed very interested as well as a few other well known devs there. These guys brought the first working ics build to a tegra2 device and have accomplished so much. I've seen more of their work posted to the xda portal than any other dev. I'm excited to see what they can do with it
Also if anything.. I think a hybrid between the two would be amazing. Some parts of android and the apps that use it I assume require some Java but the use of mono over dalvik and other enhancements from C# would revolutionize the smartphone experience

I saw XobotOS the past weekend and it is the best thing I heard about Android. That was awesome! Android ported to C# to finally forget Java... AWESOME!
It will rise the performance and the battery lasting with the Java Android.
I sent the link to Xamarin blog to the XatakaAndroid staff and made a post about it on HtcMania forum (also I sent a link to the administrator to put it on the home page).
If only Android 5.0 was developed under C#...

[Thread] Source code for Galaxy S Advance

Hello to all,
I am here today to ask you why the Samsung does not release the source code, have been released for the Galaxy SIII Mini which has the same processor Novator U8500 and why but we do not have anything yet, maybe it will be a topic a bit useless but if you know why do not hesitate to write
Edit. The source code are here: Source Code for GT-I9070 and GT-I9070P
I think they know about that... and I presume these are not the sources they are looking for..
Nice, but I think that devs has knowledge about this... I think that those drivers are not enough for some issues in CM-based ROMs.
They'd have probably know this before hand

Those are the kernel sources not the cpu sources. Novathor is from st ericsson and not from samsung. Samsung must relase the kernel sources because android is open source but ste is free to relase or not their cpu sources

Let's Spam OSRC TEAM / Request for New Kernel Source Code for Galaxy S Advance device
Looks like we do not need a special thread to make a request the source code of the kernel, to TIM OSRC samsung, because there is already a thread that has been recommended by the engine of this forum when I was trying to make a new thread. Perhaps you can do to participate as well. Here ....!!!
And also you can report the latest results of our efforts in this thread too, I guess. Hopefully it can become a reality.
Regards.
It's a great idea to spam Sammy in request for the newest sources...sinces they have had the chance to update the kernel recently (compiled in January, released in Jule almost August?? sounds fishy...) They maybe know something we don't...maybe theres official kitkat after all...hell maybe theres Android L at the end of the tunnel, yeah i'm specula...i'm fantasizing...but i don't really see why suddenly update a device that is EOL since 4.1.2, 2 years ago.
We have the sources the user from china uploaded here on new year's eve but i thing no one has used them...or has used them to rewrite their own from scratch....so maybe new sources directly from samsung is both legally and perfomance wise for our phone.
Novafusion guys (maclaw) started spam sammy with an "example" message, and apparently it worked...i don't know if they have something new but they got a letter from sammy saying they would update sources.
I think the best way would be that...create a message that we just C&P spammin Sammy OSRC till they release something, but then again, just my 2 cents.

I am aware of that also, problem is, who can we ask for sources...best case scenario Sammy releases their ST sources, but theres the legal barrier that altough neither Ericcson nor STMicroelectronics are taking liability of both the sources and the R&D invested, Novathor and all things related are now a STMicroelectronics product...and they are having a hard time.
From my PPOV, STM is gonna keed everything closed, use it later to make a new plataform (i think theyre with NEC now or some Chinese subsidiary in a joint venture), i really don't know if after a time of not using the plataform or by being cancelled they have to legally open their sources...or if theres a "expiration date" on them.
Since Sammy uses Novathor in 3 or 4 phones and Sony used it in almost all their phones in 2012(?) we are left with whats being already used.
I don't have any knowledge about the content of the leaked sources from the Xperia forum that the guy from China uploaded but i thought for a while they were just as good as our devs had already built isn't?

Not sure that STMicroelectronics cares much about Android anymore, other competitors didn't won anything from competing against Qualcomm and Samsung (with the Exynos), because they haven't done any major advances in performance or power consumption, also, Google strongly favors Qualcomm CPUs, they even use them on their Nexus devices for the most part (except Nexus 7 I think, because it uses NVIDIA Tegra, if I remember correctly), hope you remember Texas Instruments, big player, choosed to part ways with Android and most of their ARM stuff.
I wrote this on the other thread requesting kernel source. Unless Samsung has the igloo 3.4 kernel converted/hacked to work on janice (which was a rumor when we heard that was preparing a 4.2/4.3 OTA) hidden somewhere in Korea and they release that, not sure anything they could release would made a major impact on performance or battery duration.
What we are missing? Hm, a proper RIL (that is not the one I made, but should work with most Samsung libril.so's), and maybe some access to the Samsung Secondary bootloader (they won't release that even if they were drunk and on drugs)

Guys, before I answer your questions and refer to those concerned about the (current) of course. There are some things we have to think about it together. namely:
1. Our developers for now almost many are turning to other devices. It was miserable.
2 Only a few people (or more) that has a device janice from the developers had in this forum.
3 For this moment (maybe) we will still get a ROM update for Janice (Either Codina), but it was developed without a device (Surely "Janice experiment") is supposed by the developer. This is ironic. You can imagine how a carpenter make a house without equipment repairman? It was impossible guys!.
4 Related to your question above, then that should answer that, perhaps @Rox or @Paul L.
5. Honestly I will feel less excited again for a peek every thread of this forum, immediately after hearing the news that uncomfortable. Sorry for that.
Oh, yes, don't forget to always hope for the good of Janice. Because I've always believed in the magic of his.
