XobotOS - Motorola Atrix 2

I know we've locked bootloader but I think the XobotOS would be interesting for someone who have hope....
it's an android 4.0 compiled by C# with huge of speed gain.
The meaning? It's still in observation.
I think many of you developers may want to look at it
the google search shortcut is here: http://goo.gl/Z4nWU

You got me all excited when I saw this thread title...Shame on you.

This is not development. It is more like "news". Moved to General.

Not saying it will be of any help to us, but I am a huge fan of this project... Mostly because I find Java terribly cumbersome and inefficient... It's my least favorite of all languages

I sent the source files posted to github to a very experienced developer on the photon forum and he seemed very interested as well as a few other well known devs there. These guys brought the first working ics build to a tegra2 device and have accomplished so much. I've seen more of their work posted to the xda portal than any other dev. I'm excited to see what they can do with it
Also if anything.. I think a hybrid between the two would be amazing. Some parts of android and the apps that use it I assume require some Java but the use of mono over dalvik and other enhancements from C# would revolutionize the smartphone experience

Sounds awesome, can't wait to see where this goes.

I saw XobotOS the past weekend and it is the best thing I heard about Android. That was awesome! Android ported to C# to finally forget Java... AWESOME!
It will rise the performance and the battery lasting with the Java Android.
I sent the link to Xamarin blog to the XatakaAndroid staff and made a post about it on HtcMania forum (also I sent a link to the administrator to put it on the home page).
If only Android 5.0 was developed under C#...

Petition to former SGS4G developers to return to the forum

As you all know, nearly two weeks ago the long awaited source code for the Android Gingerbread software was released. This had been a joyous occasion for many of us who had been patiently awaiting its release in hopes that it would lead to working versions of Cyanogenmod and MIUI on our phones, as well as several kernel modifications that were not previously possible. The first few hours of speculation turned into days, which turned into weeks, with the promises of development yet to be fulfilled. As it turns out the fears of some of you had come true, that the few developers that were left lost interest in the Galaxy S 4G for other projects.
While people like Raver have actively stuck with us, there has been a dead silence by those who were previously the most visible on this forum. Whitehawkx who has left us for the Galaxy S2, Dsexton who had left for lack of a separate computer, and Dr Honk who God knows where he is. Krylon ive seen mention working on a kernel once but with little detail. These were some of the best we had and we need to make it overwhelmingly obvious to them that they are wanted and needed here. So I propose that we take the time to let them know that the source code they've wanted and needed is now available and ready to be worked. Youre welcome to write up your own words for a message, though heres something I threw together along with the public contact info for the devs.
Feel free to reach out to any other devs who have not been listed here or from other forums.
Update: Dev's emails were removed by site mods. If you would like to email the people below, you can readily find their email in their user profiles and in their Donate To Me links.

“Hello (dev screen name),
This is (your screen name) from the Galaxy S 4G forums on XDA. If you haven’t heard, the source code for Gingerbread we have been eagerly awaiting was finally released a few weeks ago for our phones. With the source finally released, the limitations our devs had faced before in developing for the SGS4G are now gone, and the path is clear for development of CM7 and MIUI for our phones. I have noticed you have not been around the SGS4G forums recently, but I along with all the other forum members have been hopefully awaiting your return to developing for our phones with the expertise you have shown in all of your many other projects for the SGS4G. As well, the lack of devs on the forum have left many of the still poplar ROM’s unmaintained and not updated to the latest official release. Please come back to developing for the SGS4G for all of us who have spent hours testing and using your ROM’s and show us what your talents can turn these phones into.
Thank you”
I think this is good intended but i fear it wont change anything.
Dont forget soma and airfluip who has been developing for our phones recently.
Krylin said in twitter that he will begin working in a ROM based on GB for our phones. Although he said he will start it today if he doesnt its still good news. I know he can make kernels and roms. Also raver is working. Dsexton said he will get a computer soon and that he needed break. White.... I dont know he droppwd when ki3 leaked. But oh well, lets enjoy or wait.
I've been lurking these forums since this phone came out, with the occasional post here and there.
I have seen people waiting months just for root.
I remember kb5 enhanced was our only ROM for times without end, just to have that developer throw a fit at Mr.Clown for mistakingly closing his thread and leave us hanging.
I remember following Krylon on twitter for what seemed like an eternity, until we finally had cwm on our phones.
Then came the good times.
New roms coming out just about every week, themes, mods, and all the goodies we see on our forums today.
New developers popping up, the formation of teams like aerodonk and acid.
Now we are back in one of these silent periods.
It seems like all development stopped.
But one thing I've learned from these forums is that patience is a virtue.
We go from bad times to good times, to bad again, and so on.
I'm sure there is progress being done right now.
No matter how little, our how long it's taking, it will come.
And a new life cycle will start for our phones.
We just gotta hang tight, get through this metamorphose, and then our phone will come out, greater then before!
Saw on krylons twitter something about doing another rom based off of the gb update so that looks promising.
Also its not just the sgs4g. I own a sensation as well and things have really slowed there too.
I understand everybodys frustration with the length of time that it is taking for us to get new roms. But you have to understand these guys do this in their spare time. And yes, it is true that because of Samsung and t mobile taking forever to release a GB for us made some of the devs loose interest and move to other devices; however, we still have Raver and Krylon on or side, Dsexton will be coming back soon, and hopefully we can get Drhonk and Whitehawx back if not for developing but for at least guidance, tips, and support. I for one have started trying to learn how to do some of this but without a Linux machine it is a bit difficult. But there is no reason some of you can't chip in and try to learn this stuff too. Not to override the few true devs we have, but to assist them.

Hi Thomas
Please share your knowledge source. I am willing to learn as well, though to tell you the truth, moding and theming couldn't care me less, I'm always into performance and reliability, as well as good RTL and foreign language support (like in CM and MIUI).
Other than that, I'm always on stock theme.
I'm no dev, but I'm considering to become one in the future.

My biggest resources are picking the brain of RaverX3X and google. You can do most everything on a windows machine except mod kernels and make an Odin .tar (for those you need Linux or the ability to run Linux in a vm environment). There are quite a few tutorials out there. You just have to download the right tools to do it, have lots of spare time to devote to it and the gonads to test it.lol... Pm me later with specific questions and I can give you direct links to tutorials that might help you as well.

You don't necessarily need Linux in order to make an Odin flashable tar file, I personally use Cygwin to make the modem packages.
Yes I am aware that Cygwin is Linux-like command line, but it is by no means Linux in a VM environment.

I remember when i had the galaxy vibrant early this year i was so into the device cause they were a lots of roms here to choose from and thats one of my concerns now for this device now. If you go to the vibrant section there are a lots of 2.2 biulds 2.2.1, 2.3 ,2.3.3 etc etc etc. And they are all different. Including from stock to MIUI and htc Sence. As well as gingerbread and honeycomb. So my question is why the devs didnt work on some builds like those for this device. From my end i really dont care about what number of the OS is as long the build is stable, fast, bloatware free, custom ringtones, wallpapers, and other great thing that i did manage to see on my old vibrant that i no longer own :/
Yesterday my older sister got the galaxy s 2 for tmobile and its so awsome. I have envy in me now jajajajaja xD

This is true. Which is what I am learning to use now, but I forgot to add that part... Thanks for catching my error. From my understanding, you can use it to modify a kernel as well, but i'm not having very good luck with it yet.

This is mere conjecture on my part, but I would assume that you can modify the kernel in Windows as long as your text editor supports Unix-type line endings (Notepad++ works nicely), and then compile it using presumably gcc in Cygwin. Again, this is merely speculation on my part, having only built a Linux kernel on Linux, for my desktop.

That is the development page for the reference Tegra 250 kit, and it's been around for a long time.

I was saying you should search because that link has been posted tons of times.

This looks legit, it was posted a couple days ago, read this:

It includes this:
"Tegra Android Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0) OS Image for Ventana"
The Tegra 2 "Ventana" development kit is targeted at developers creating software for Android 2.2 "Froyo" and above.
Hence, the "Tegra" it is talking about is Tegra 2

I agree. I mean realistically I'm sure the devs will be the first to know when source or drivers get released, but but don't squash a guy for being enthusiastic and trying to be helpful.
First, I would like to apologize for lowering to a level I have tried to remove from these forums. I have been in this game quite awhile and I've learned one thing for sure, being polite and helpful get the best results. I come originally from the lowly Huawei ascend and I'll tell you, that phone has a great community and still sees support and it hit eol more than 6 months ago. We as a group decided our own fate when WE pushed our devs to lock our ICS thread. This is our device and our forums and we are responsible for building a sense of community. As it is now, I cringe to check my own threads because I know they will be bloodgened with haters and "you're wrong, I'm right ". We should all try to encourage one another and promote how awesome our device is, which brings me to this... Why use these forums to bash the g2x? All the complaining and whining is why t-Mobile bailed out. I am a collision tech for highline vehicles, do you have any idea how much service a Ferrari requires to keep it running? I seriously doubt Enzo Ferrari endured customers calling to tell him what a pos his cars are(I know he's dead) Lastly, I happen to be a successful writer for another website, I happen to be a weath of knowledge with a lot of connections. I have been been working my butt off to help a certain group of devs get a certain app working on our device, all I'll say is those of us that are flashing addicts will appreciate this app. I get things done through kindness and support. I would love to see that sense of community here, lets face it, we ALL use these forums. Thank you so much all devs that have stuck it out with us, our device would be worthless without you, sincerely, artifintel.

Very well said. Although I don't think the "you're wrong I'm right" has a lot to do with the problem. I think the problem goes a little deeper then that.
I feel the problem lies more upon the greed of many users who for some reason think devs/themers owe them something. Developers and themers do this because we like to in our own freetime. We like seeing the page views, downloads, thanks, and constructive criticism that push us to go a step further.
I will give an example of how many of us that make releases look at things. And use my personal releases as reference.
My precision theme for all devices I own and some I don't own has about 6k downloads. Precision for cm7 has about 900. Icecreamcomb has a little over 3k. Weapon new clip has about 400. And a few thousand for all my wallpapers, boot animations, and other images I have created. So apparently a lot of people use my work which is what I hope for upon releasing, seeing as I want people to enjoy it as much as I do.
Look at my thanks meter. I have 210 thanks. So that tells me that out of the 10k+ people using my work only 210 (2%?) where grateful enough to take the liberty to click a button and show appreciation for my hours and hours of hard work. But hey that's fine at least some people do appreciate it and many more use it.
However there are always those that do nothing but troll and complain that drives everyone away. It is sad when it gets to the point that people stop developing for a device because of users. I find it quite astounding the nerve of some people.

Requesting binary ics drivers from nvidia

Hey guys as many of us are aware, us relying on carriers and handset manufacturers to release os updates is almost pointless. There are many other devices that are ics capable yet won't be upgraded do to carriers and phone manufacturers. What the sgs2 community did was request drivers from qualcomm and they provided. I think with enough community support nvidia will as well. We are one driver away from complete ics goodness, no more crashes or bugs. I searched Google and saw that this community has already contacted nvidia here: http://forums.developer.nvidia.com/devforum/discussion/1726/tegra-2-source-code/p1 and here: http://forums.developer.nvidia.com/devforum/discussion/comment/3236?Sort=popular
So let's group together and work as a team to convince nvidia they will be doing a great service to our community, it will only strengthen their presence in the android community by doing so.
Any developers here have suggestions on persuading nvidia to support us and have them notice us? I think their dev forum is a good start, also social media may help. I wonder how many g2x owners are still out there?
lets make our voices heard and finish what we started.

Quick edit, did anyone else notice the guy saying that Nvidia is trying to release the binaries for Tegra 2 Dual Cores in 2012? He posted this in November 2011:
Hello Android Development Community
We appreciate all the interest and passion surrounding the NVIDIA Tegra Platform and we take our support for the development community seriously. NVIDIA has been working with Google and Motorola to provide the open source community with the required drivers and other binary code to build full Android OS images for the Tegra 2 powered "Motorola Xoom". We expect Google to make those components available as part of the Android Open Source Project soon.
In addition, NVIDIA is working on a full release of Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) for our Tegra 2 Dual Core and Tegra 3 Quad Core reference devices to be made available early next year. This release package will comprise of binary code, drivers developed on our reference platforms and any patches necessary to ensure stability & performance with ICS. We hope the open source community can leverage this release for their work on all Tegra devices.

The same issue has been beaten to death on XDA and elsewhere. I am pissed-off that those who newly raise this issue haven't done their homework, they just ignorantly post what has already been dealt with and are using up/wasting bandwidth and storage. The same for others who ask without researching/looking first to determine if the answer to their question exists before they ask. I've stopped answering questions which have been answered many times already. That may be perceived by some as arrogant/harsh/mean/etc. but that's OK, they can keep answering the same questions over and over and over and over and over... again.

[REQ]xamarin/XobotOS port for our XT720?

Hello folks. Been some time since I actively posted something. The last time I did, we came up with Donations for Dexter and his Froyo port for XT720.
Now I'm sure you're already heard or read about the work done by Xamarin to port Android from Java into C#. I'm wondering why no one has not done anything about it yet? I'm not a software expert and I would like to genuinely know why this is not attempted. If it is possible, I would like to know what would be required. I am of course, ready to part with some donation in the form of coffee money to the dev or contributors who would like to attempt this. The Xamarin team has already posted the XobotOS in github.
The money could actually be used to get the developers license for Xamarin's Mono as a perk.
Your thoughts please.
I have come across this OS and given its said advantages and features I would like to try it out myself.
Off-topic: I would like to try out Tizen too. Android seems too bloated for my phone.
Edit: I'm no developer

I want to try them too. Do you know where can I download these files and how to flash them?
Will not work we have a locked bootloader.

Blast the bootloader and to hell with motorola. No unlocked bootloader, no money, no smartphone. IF I buy another smartphone I'll make sure it will have unlocked the boot-loader else I'm better off with a 3G netbook or a dumbphone.
Will not work wont pass signature check you will end bricking your phone.

I don't know a lot about xamarin but I think it probably only replaces the userland (replaces Android's java-like dalvik VM with a C#/mono VM). Hijacking would probably still be possible. My understanding is that xoboros is really a proof-of-concept at this point and I don't know how widely it's been ported. I suspect you need a more open device than XT720--some of our proprietaries are JNI things and I assume Mono isn't ABI compatible.

[ROM-Petition] Petition for Ubuntu touch on the HOS

Hello People,
I read a thread which started a petition to get XDA -Dev users to test the Ubuntu Touch OS on the HOS. I recently checked the petition again and saw that it was only 250 submissions short. i dont know about you guys, but I would really enjoy using and of course testing and reporting the Ubuntu Touch OS. This is why I ask you guys to sign this, if you also want to see Ubuntu Touch to get to the HTC One S.

To the Mods, If i really need to remove the link, because i am still under the required posts, I will. I just wanted to get this petition out there again
if i find the original thread I will link it, or if someone else finds it.

In my experience; trying to force developers to do something just because you want it done never works. I know that is probably not how you meant the petition to look but in my mind it looks more like "See, here is the number of people that want this. Now make it happen" instead of "Hey, there are a bunch of people on this list that would love if you could make this, but it's completely up to you.":silly:
Well i didnt start the petition and its not specifically for the HOS but rather a petition so the XDA users, who generally have more knowledge about OSs and ROMs than the average consumer, can test the OS and report bugs etc. This in return, should help Ubuntu Touch to be as bug free as possible from release on. I do get your point, i just think its not like forcing a single dev to make something, as it is The Ubuntu Team working on the OS, additionally the Ubuntu Team would get a huge community base to test their operating system, and report bugs they find.

I frequent the Dev section and basically so far many devs want to build Ubuntu for the HOS, however it just isn't that easy. The lack of ROM hasn't been the result of a lack of trying.
Somebody's out there trying man http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2206904 just be patient and have faith.. I've seen youtube videos of it running on the One X so hopefully it will be running on our devices in the near future.. What these devs have is a talent. I wish I could do what they do...
Found that thread after I wrote this one. I was really excited. And I really hope that the developers will succeed in porting ubuntu to our awesome phone

It would be nice to have this os to test but to be honest I'm not a fan and don't think its a great product. I'm sticking to android but good luck
