[Q] Horrible performance with latest CM10.1.0 - Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Why do I get so terrible framerates specifically in UI with the latest CM10.1.0? CM10.1 had the same problem. CM10 worked much smoother for me but i didn't like gaming performance because we don't have good kernels for it. Google Play store has the worst laggs.. it's almost unusable.
My 3 year old phone can handle its CM10.1 much smoother than this dual core tablet.. why is that?
I'm talking about Tab 2 10.1''

Wipe data/factory reset, wipe system, preload, cache, dalvik cache and reinstall cm 10.1.

I believe its an issue with Samsung and Touch Wiz.
I own a Gnote2 and the GS3, when using anything related to AOSP no matter if overclocking the CPU or GPU I still receive horrible frame rates on any heavy resource games like GTA3 or Vice city. Not even tolerable either and more embarrasing than anything. With the Note2 with a Quad core at 2ghz (overclocked) with ARM Mali-400 MP4 GPU should be blowing everything out of the water....
Only way I see a fully working CM rom is to build onto TWiz that way all the proper lib files and what not are present.
To be honest I really dont know just talking smack trying to figure this thing out.
Next phone possibly a Nexus device, that way I can get the total Google Experience with almost to no issues.
Rant rant ants pants
Thanks,
Sam

Have you flashed any mods?
If not:
1.Flash stock JB 4.1.2 over ODIN
2.Install TWRP recovery
3.Download the cm10.1 rom and gapps
4.---IF YOU WANT download dholl kernel(its the best kernel for pure cm or cm based roms)-BOOTLOADER isnt locked on the tab,its unlocked completely when you buy it,only carrier locked versions may have locked bootloaders.
5.Install cm10.1 and gapps
5.Reboot and let the device stay untouched after booting for 5 minutes,so everything fits into place.
6.if you still experience little lags,go to developer options, and turn the animations off(they are useless, and consume the speed of the device)
And download Seeder entropy generator[FREE] from the xda forums(the version on market is payed, but they are the same :silly:
And try RAM manager-for games set to Hard gaming, and for every day use select balance.Thats it
7.Enjoy the dual-core!

[Q] Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 really slow ?

My new Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 is really slow :
- the apps menu is slow, looks like 15 fps or so
- crashes games like Riptide GP
- plays games like Angry Birds and Temple Run at some 20 fps
- music player list is also slow
I'll do a hard reset and flash the first custom ROM. Anyone else have the same problems ?
A hard reset will usually cure this issue, try resolving issue before rooting.

I was having the same problem with my Galaxy Tab 2 and did a hard reset. This seemed to fix everything and it is running AOK. I am going to keep it running stock for a while though, its nice and smooth now and I want to wait till there is a really good reason for me to root it. Not to mention I am still waiting on them to get the ROMs a little more fine tuned.
I am on the tab 2 7inch, and mine is not slow. I think it has the same internals as 10"
I'm running the sgrant "clean rom" v 1.1 and Apex launcher and it's smooth as butter, not to mention I got rid of the bloatware.

I've moved to Infected ROM - better, but for gaming, it's the same. Can anyone confirm that they can run popular low-medium quality games like Angry Birds and Temple Run smoothly (60 fps) on a GT-P5113 ?
Mine is really slow too It's really not like the Ipad
It's more more slower than an Ipad but I use just to read comics and go on the internet.
I now run latest CM9 with OC kernel, but some older games like Drag Racing are still practically unplayable. Does anyone here have a good experience with this title especially ?
I had the same issue with my new Tab 2 10.1, which manifested itself after only a couple of days.
A bit of digging on the forums stated that it could be a rogue app that was installed, however I was unable to diagnose the offending app.
Perplexed and slightly annoyed I decided to install CM9 and have not looked back.

I think it should because of the GPU & CPU speed of galaxy tab. As we know p5100 using an powervr GPU. NVIDIA Tegra should be better than powervr. But if you want to increase the speed of your tab try to use custom ROM and OC. Or you can sell your tab and buy a new lower price tab like Transformer, Motorola Xoom, or Sony S tablet which powered by Tegra GPU that could run the graphics smoothly :fingers-crossed:
Yep, I already have it on a local free e-bay-like site.

When I install cleanrom 1.1 on my GT-P5113 after following all root procedures, it stucks at boot screen showing samsung galaxy tab 2
And it never progresses beyond that screen. Do you have any suggestions?

I think cleanrom was only built for the tab 2 7.0". If so, it will not work on the tab 2 10inch.
Hopefully you installed a custom recovery like clockwork mod when rooting.
You will need to manually boot into stock recovery and then select recovery again from their. I believe its power and volume down, then vol down to navigate and vol up to select.
Once in your custom recovery (clockworkmod) you will need to wipe data and cache and restore a back up you have made of stock or install a ROM from sdcard. The ROM needs to be specifically made for your device.

Try flashing the original cleanrom 1.0 version first and see how that goes , if its good make a nandroid in cwm, then do the update to 1.1 version. I only ran the 1.0 version for a while, now I'm back on the infected rom, it runs a bit smoother and the Wi-Fi always comes back on after long sleeps.

Had the same problem. Installed cm9 and havent looked back since.
THis tab is fast, but like any tab or PC you can screw it up if you really try.

Sorry for bumping a thread, but not that tegra crap again. Tegra 2 is barely any faster than the powervr released in 2007 used in the tab 2. Tegra 2 is a crap chip in itself released in 2010-2011 with nvidias marketing gimmick of optimising the hell out of games for invidia, running it at a lower than native res, bumping the graphics high while paying developers to lower graphics for other chipsets and reverse optimise it.
Tegra 2 can't even play high profile 480ps smoothly while powervr sgx 540 + neon can do so at 1080p.
slow tabs
To solve this.
I was dumb ass i payed 400 $ first samsung tab2 3g and then 420 $ for a tab3 4g
You should see them now i used them for targets whit my shothgun
And now i use an ipad tada evry thing works flawless.

Suck @ss, douche. Go troll somewhere else. If you weren't such an idiot you can mod a Tab so it makes an ipad the irrelevant p.o.s that it is. Thank god you went to Crapple so I wouldn't have to deal with a d-bag like yourself on these forums.

Mini-Review The Dark Knight Rises HD video

Hello all!
Here is my mini review of the game.
So the game is great...outstanding graphics etc. Things that need to be fixed...Performance. It is laggy and not only on the Note.
So if it lags on the GS3 then I expect an update to fix it soon...or at least I hope
Also, it wouldn't hurt if people actually moved their mouths during cut scenes!
Anyways, I hope you enjoy it.
Dont forget to watch in HD
The sixaxis touch profile is attached to the post as well. Stock DPI.
Regards
ive got this game on my gnote using the miui rom but its extremely laggy even if im oerclocked to 1.6 Ghz
MIUI is based on CM9/AOKP not Samsung ROMs correct?
If so, that is normal. Currently those roms cannot match the speed of Samsung ones specially since the kernal I am using has an overclocked GPU.
I am a CM9 fan from my Captivate days but for the NOTE, it is still not on par sadly.
Running 4.0.4 Classic rom with Notecore v7 EX
This game lags terribly and heats up the phone so much near the camera area, its crazy...
Tested it out on my wives Ipad 2 and it runs like a dream, looks better and also sits in multitask area and opens again no problem, why the hell with a 1.6mhz dual core super machine can we not get it to run anywhere near as good as bloomin god I hate apple, but they always get it right
Is not optimized for android. Check the GS3 having the same lag. If that one with a quad core and faster GPU cannot handle it then you know is the game. I hope Gameloft fixes it soon though as the lag does take away from the fun :\
my CPU is ocd to 1.6 and GPU to 400mhz (notecore v7, cleanote 3.1 rom), still laggy as hell. spent the last hour to tweak the setting using chainfire 3d, trying different plugins. and it seems better, but maybe its just a placebo effect.
def, need an update for performance...
I dont even try with chainfire. For now, Notecore is as good as it gets. The only thing that made me smile was seeing the GS3 with the same issues...a little bit of hope I mean, it still plays fine but I rather wait and play it better...hopefully.
To be honest even my newly updated Lets Golf 3 lags like hell, even though im OC'd to 1.6 with Notecore, I suppose its down to the shear size of the screen the graphics are having to push too.
Not sure these huge 3D games are ever going to run well on our notes
Nova 3 , Mass Effect 3 , Real Racing 2, etc..all run super smooth. Have you tried those?
Also, is screen resolution not size that matters.
What ROM you using?
Sent from a galaxy note far far away
Clean Note latest.
Aha, used to use clean note, was fantastic, will return to it
Sent from a galaxy note far far away
Sweet. Post back if you can, to see if you got some improvement.
Tried Cleanote 3.1 and Classic also tried stock ICS and GB still all lag pretty bad...
Then I stumbled across this rom
AniDroid-N7000 ICS ROM
This game certainly runs the smoothest, with a few lags but not as bad as the others i have tried, also tested Lets golf and it runs superbly smooth, not sure what he has done with this ROM, but it works for me.

agreed. what dev's do is just port the game over to android instead of starting from scratch thus giving android devices a bad name if the game does not properly run on android platforms. A quad core SIII should be able to handle this game with no lags or whatsoever. The galaxy note is not far behind the SIII so we should be able to play the game smoothly, a few fps drops is acceptable

Did you try the OCed kernel with Cleannote ?
I have tried that ROM you mentioned and the performance was not close to CleanNote with the OCed kernel in any of the highend games I tried before.
Its weird I tried Cleanote last night with OC Notecore EX ver 7 and this game ran exactly the same as when I tried it with Classic ROM with the same Notecore.
Now this morning i am testing AniDroid-N7000 ICS ROM and my findings are very much better, cant explain why, would love to know. I can actually play this game now and enjoy it, Ok its not quite as smooth and nice as the IPAD version but then thats not our Notes fault I guess, its down to the production of the game on Android, would love to hear others experiences with other roms.
Another point with Dead Trigger I was finding graphics set to high I would occasionally get screen freezes, but with the AniDroid rom it runs smooth, not had a screen freeze.
That is very odd indeed. I just played Dead Trigger for a while yesterday with the very high settings (Tegra 3) without a hiccup. In fact, that will be my next video
Gotta love how everyone's experience can be so different even with the same phones.
What OC settings do you use ?
I just leave Notecore defaults. Sometimes change to pegasusq maybe but everything else I leave as default for the OC kernel.

Your Experience - Best performing rom?

Ok so I am currently running CleanRom 2.7 Oc'd to 1.8 and without Fsync disabled. I also use the dock for battery & email purposes.
With this combo I honesty expected alot more from this tablet. It just seems a bit laggy. With a 1.8ghz Quad core processor & a streamlined OS, this thing should be FLYING! What am I missing? My GS3 on CM10 runs circles around this tablet. I know it has an extra gig of ram, but I wouldn't think there would be such a giant difference.
So, in your experience - what is the fastest most efficient rom with out lag? CM10? Another Cleanrom? Other Rom?
Please give me your opinion & any other suggestions. Thanks

We've been over this a thousand times on these forums.
The TF700 has a resolution of 1920 x 1200
The SGS3 has a resolution of 1280 x 720
More pixels means more lag. Regardless of the rest of the hardware. You want a faster tablet, get a low-resolution one.

If I were you, I'd go to CRomI 3.1 Odex with disabled fsync (seriously: there are no risks 'cause the stock kernel is as stable as a rock).
I too am an SIII user (with 1 gig of RAM) but I really do think the tf700 isn't slow at all.
Maybe you forgot to update your bootloader when going form ICS to JB?
I am getting near 7000 on Quadrant (which is not really a good benchmark app, but it gives an idea of what scores you'll be able to get with the tf700.
I can only compare the original ROM to CleanROM and CROMi haven't tried other ROMs.
No dock here either so I wouldn't have input there.
My experience with the stock ROM was a heartache.
Jelly Bean just didn't come thru as promised far as I could see.
Since going thru the learning process to flash CleanROM\Clemsyns, then continuing on with CROMi there was no looking back.
This I consider a complete solution to my disappointment with the Infinity.
Almost returned the tablet to Amazon so glad I kept it now.
Not sure why some stock tabs run with such lagginess.
Oddly I fiddled with one in a store just 2 days ago and it was very smooth.
My recommendation would be an obvious one.
*Be advised once you start ROMing you may get hooked

[Q] Looking for a bit of genuine honesty

I've got a rooted P5110 running the latest Clockwork Recovery and Cyanogen Mod 10.1 and by few apps. I'm running this rom in an attempt to get the Tab2 to be smooth and glitch free. No matter what rom I try I get some level of stuttering and glitchyness even on very mild use such as simple browsing with a couple of tabs open. I've grown tired of trying every possible rom to solve this so I've come to thinking that it is just not possible, no matter what Rom is used, to get the Tab 2 buttery smooth (like an iPad).
My question is to those really up to speed on Roms/Kernels/Modding and it is whether it is genuinely possible (Android/Apple rivalry aside) to make the Tab 2 super-glitch-free like an iPad? I.e. is the Tab2 stuttering a hardware/spec issue that simply can't be overcome by ultra-clever programming or modding?
I'd appreciate honesty on this because I can still (reluctantly) send the Tab 2 back and get an iPad in its place. I don't want to do this but I cannot live with its stuttering anymore but will stick with it if it's easily and genuinely fixable.
Android is a different beast, the software is written for a few hundred devices, where as ipad apps are written for three devices...you well never get that with android, that said I guess I'm not as picky as you because I feel that cm10.1 is smooth with stock or black hawk kernel..

Totally get this but my Android phone (Motorola RAZR I) doesn't stutter at all, no matter what I throw at it. It's got a faster processor (Intel chip) but still it shows that Android doesn't need to stutter. As I understand it the Asus Transformer Prime tablet doesn't stutter at all (but does have other issues) so this brings me back to thinking that the Tab 2 is simply well and unforgivably under spec'ed.
If you want a solid functioning tablet for basic usage without the need for modifications, the ipad is probably best to meet your requirements.

If you really hate lag, there are a few things you can do.
1. If you use SwiftKey, don't. It produces a fair bit of lag when typing.
2. Don't use a live wallpaper.
3. Use a custom homescreen like Nova Launcher.
4. Use Chrome.

The main reason is because apple has loads more years of experience when it comes to software! But also the bloatware that samsung installed doesnt help, ios hibernates the operating sistem when u play a game for example! So all of the ram and cpu power goes towards the game! Where as android the game runs on the top of android. Also there are no home screen of widgets less animations! Should I go on? Honestly android will never run like ios!! Android may get better but so will apple so android will always be behind! Thats why the iphone can run games lag free etc and also why the iphone 5 has less cores and that then the s3 or s4! Everyone says wow look at my s3 4 cores your iphoen 5 only has 2 mine is better! That is wrong! Iphone 5 doesnt need 4 cores! Or 2 gb of ram... etc. So yeah If you don't like lag buy a really expensive device like the note 2 or just buy an ipad!
I hope there were no errors it that!
Press thanks if I helped!

How is your internet connection? This can drastically affect the games speed & smoothness. Try standing/sitting right at the router for a bit. See what happens. If that helps see if a wireless extender is in the offing. I got one for $15 shipped on eBay.
How fast is your internet? Cable can be a drag in a crowded neighborhood.
Also, if you have root, try uninstalling the Acer bloatware w/ Root App Delete or similar. Most of the Acer apps are duplicates of the Android ones anyways. Disable the Acer Ring too.
oc kernal for 10.1.2+, ?
Somewhere I read that JB/cm10.1.+ on the a700 has some extra hardware layers,
I think that slows ya down.
I wonder what the fps would of be on ICS

Since kernel is only for stock roms im not able to install custom rom with it.
And btw Am I wrong becouse of feeling that this tablet is not so good for gaming?
Also i would like u to ask if the nexus 10 would be better for gaming?
I would be gr8full for fast replay.
Looking forward for answers

Kiteman kernel v4.1 works with cm10.1.2 stable
A700 is not praised for its gpu , and slightly funky screen size.
I got one to only mess with cm10.1
The nexus 10 should be better with extra mem and better gpu.
My antutu gpu score is 1878

Can't say everything will work,
just saying there is a custom kernel available for cm10.1
Need to load it after loading rom.
I'm not sure it will help your fps issue much
What is your antutu gpu score?
