A friend of mine just purchased the S3 a few days ago. Today they checked their data usage and they are already at 850 mb of data. So I told them to check what apps were the culprit. As it turns out, it was the Gallery. So we figured out that it consumed all of that data while doing the initial sync that synced all of their Picasa Web albums with the Gallery. So we went in to the Account settings and disabled Picasa Sync all together. I should also add that they are not on Google+ and therefore the Google+ Instant Upload feature is not on.
So I am wondering if there is any way that I can set Picasa to sync only on wifi. Is it something easy and I am just missing it?

I dont know what you mean, are you trying to avoid manually syncing on wifi? You can just turn on picasa photo sync and wifi at the same time then I guess.

Thanks for your reply. I would like to leave Picasa Sync on in the background, but only have it sync while on wifi, instead of on my mobile data.

So here's a few answers I couldn't find from all the kickass people at XDA
- Sync Android Bookmarks (bookmarks in stock browser on my phone never showed up on my xoom...?)
- Have bookmarks show up in a different order (right now they show up according to when you added them... not alphabetical or most-used...)
- Which app you guys recommend for screenshots
- Which app you guys recommend for flashlight (using the dual-LED)
that's it for now really... everything else kicks ass. I'll edit the topic if there's more! You guys add yours if you need random questions answered...
If you have Google Chrome installed on your computer and you are logged on to your Google account, then the stock browser will synchronize your bookmarks with Chrome. I may be wrong here, but I think that you have to actually organize your bookmarks in Chrome unless you download a 3rd party app.

actually I don't want to sync with my Chrome, I want to sink with my Android devices only ... there is such an app as "Bookmarks sync" in the apps list, meaning it does store bookmarks... I'm just wondering why it doesn't sync between my N1 and Xoom

There's only one right now afaik and that's the Screenshot ER. It's free for XDA dev members. You need to be rooted though.

first thing I did is turn it on and use the 1-click method (well 14 clicks but they're all "OK" hehe)
so that's weird... no way to have bookmarks show up in alphabetical order?
"Flashlight" is very bright. The widget is nice and small.
You can use the SDK to take screenshots. Google ddms.bat.

Have you tried using titanium backup to freeze or uninstall it.

Anyone know can I link "My local profile" in the people app with my facebook profile? When I pick my facebook profile from contacts and select to join it my local profile doesn't show in the list. I've added my phone number under the dialer settings but that didn't seem to help either.
All my calls and texts are logged under the local profile and it's annoying.

If you go to the Unofficial CM9 forum, at the bottom of page 35 somebody else had the same problem with Facebook sync. At the top of page 36 PipelinerArd answered what to do.
Edit: Sorry if I sound like a d*ck, but the answer is there. If you posted that question in that forum, somebody probably could have helped you faster. If that doesn't help your specific problem, maybe somebody else in that one could help you out. I run that rom, but don't use that particular feature.

Thanks, but that's not my problem. I saw that when I read through that thread before I flashed the rom, and got FB-Sync from the play store. That sync'd all my FB contacts fine, and I can join all of those contacts with duplicates in my Google contact list fine. I just can't join MY profile with the "My Local Profile" in the People app.
And no, you didn't sound like a **** to me lol :good:
EDIT: After looking at it again it looks like the profile I'm trying to link is my personal profile saved to my Google contacts, not my actual facebook profile.

Alright lol. Well like I said I don't use Facebook sync stuff, so I don't know about that one.
So this might be one of the lamest questions on the forum in a while. Then again it maybe not.....
Let me clarify in the easiest way what my issue is. I can scroll through my contacts, and cannot find the person I am looking for. However, I can open SMS and type the persons name, and it appears automatically.
I previously had my settings to only sync existing contacts. I have since gone through and included "sync all". I've also tried cleaning up my contacts by linking FB accounts with contact numbers, but can't pull up some contacts via FB to link them. I assume this is because I didn't have "display all contacts" selected when initially syncing FB. I am going to delete FB and add it again, I assume that will at least fix the latter mentioned issue.
Some please tell this idiot how to fix this. :cyclops:

Go into your application manager and wipe the data for your contacts then resync.

Fwiw, I just pulled up one of these mentioned contacts via SMS.....I long-pressed the name, and viewed contact. While viewing the profile, there was a button from "add to my contacts". Wtf, I'm so confused lol

Under the sync settings for my Google account there are a few new settings. One is app data which showed up a few days ago and then today I noticed an auto backup setting. I have no idea what they do though. Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

I'm pretty sure that syncing app data syncs data/ notifications from apps across all your devices. For example, earlier today I got an email (gmail account) and the notification showed up on my phone. I addressed the email on my laptop through gmail and the notification cleared from my phone automatically.

Tough call since Google just rolled out so many new products/upgrades but I know that their talk replacement "hangouts" syncs data between all devices. Worked good for me yesterday. Might be the app data part? Guess you could unchecked it and see what breaks.
