I am thinking very seriously about unlocking my G2x an going to AT&T because my service sucks big time where I live at. I don't get service in my house an when I go outside it takes about 5 minutes to get a signal.....what's everyone thoughts.....I've already talked to AT&T an Tmobile and have my unlock code already

I assume you've already verified that it's possible to get a decent signal on AT&T there?
AT&T gets great signal there an a lot more places also.....an its atleast 3g there about to be 4g an with tmobile I've only got 2g there

Why you say that for?

G2x supposedly does NOT contain AT$T 3G bands as previously advertised. As for home coverage, T-Mo is supposed to be launching an in-home signal booster for free (with 2-yr contract, probably doesn't effect upgrade timeline but haven't verified that) pretty soon. I think within the next week.

My understanding is the booster needs to be connected to your broadband internet router to work. So you will be using your internet bandwidth to use mobile voice and data. What a scam...
And any one visiting you (or you neighbor) with a t-mobile connection will use that signal (your internet) and pay t-mobile for that.

Hopefully your "source" isn't an otherwise reputable source of information because you (they) couldn't be more wrong. I have been a part of the beta for these boosters for the past 6 months. All it does is take a weak 3G signal (which means you must get 3G somewhere in your house for this to work) and amplifies it throughout your house. In my case in an upstairs window I got a weak 3G signal so I put the receiver in the window and the transmitter in my living room. Now I get between 1 and 6mbps down throughout my entire house. There is not even a way to connect this thing to a home internet router. I don't even have home internet.
I'd be curious to know where you heard this.
Oh and the G2x does not work on AT&T 3G bands. I have been in several states with no T-Mobile coverage and have used AT&T instead, but only on Edge.

I did not say I heard this from someone. I said its my understanding, and that was based on the similar booster I saw from Sprint. If t-mobile is implementing it in a different way, than i am sorry for my ignorance.

I didn't intend to sound overtly defensive, I just don't like when people start using the "scam" word when this couldn't be further from a scam. This device kicks ass and tmo wants to give it out for free in exchange for people's business. This device is normally $500 so this program is great. Hopefully they will also offer the equipment at full retail price for those uncomfortable signing or extending a contract.

Another example of totally failed mobile network infrastructure buuldout here. How does the whole world agrees on similar frequencies and we can't have carriers on the same frequency in one country. Yeah, yeah... I know about spectrum availability and yada yada but this just shows our lack of foresight and another example of our national handicap of wanting to be different from everyone else. Lots of countries are messed up. We just finally got all the carriers providing 3G here in Thailand. Two of them are providing 3G on 850Mhz (DTAC and TrueMove), one is on 900Mhz and the other is on 2100Mhz. A big grab bag. An AT&T phone will get 3G on two of them. Some TMO phones get 3G on the other one. But all phones get it on the 2100 carrier. I am using my G2X on 2100Mhz here (TOT3G) and my Nexus One on 900Mhz (AIS). So the USA isn't the only country with non-unified 3G bands.

The cities included in this initial wave are Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Houston and San Antonio. Although users in those metro areas will still have very few LTE devices to choose from. Unlike Verizon, which has multiple LTE handsets, AT&T has no phones compatible with the new network. AT&T launched a data stick and a portable hotspot for the LTE network last month. The carrier has also started selling a massively overpriced Android tablet, the HTC Jetstream.
sweet im in San Antonio for a little while, now for AT&T to get some phones for me to use !!!
Now if they could hurry up and increase the HSPA+ speeds. I'm still only getting 3.5mb download and 1mb upload in downtown Dallas.... iPhone 3gs gets about the same download speed, although only half of the upload speed.
Come to the other side of the Metroplex. Downtown Fort Worth and I am getting 5-7mb down, 1.1-1.3 up. I can't wait for the Holiday with LTE. That will be SO sweet.

I know the Inspire is not a LTE phone, but just launching the network upgrade has helped me to see vastly improved data speeds. I also know the Speed test app is not accurate, but I have never seen it pull these kind of speeds, especially consistently.
Well, I would like if it came out in Madison soon... (and when AT&T has more LTE Android phones)

As mentioned, you would need a LTE phone first. But, being an hour away from Houston, I wouldn't run out and buy one when they become available. I live in the outskirt of Houston and HSPA+ is non existent at home. In Houston where I work, as posted, I am just now seeing the true benefit of HSPA+. Probably some bottlenecks from ongoing upgrades being freed up, maybe a little congestion as well.

Knowing how AT&T operates, I'd imagine they opened up more bandwidth to the land-based lines to the area first to make sure their LTE debut went well and you're just seeing some of that extra bandwidth.

I'm not as stupid as you. I know when I'm on wifi. Here is the proof.
Here are some from earlier today. The first two were indoors, a large metal building with offices above on the second floor. The first run was bad, only 2800kbps, but I did hit 4916kbps on the second. I then went outdoors and tested a lil slower than yesterday, but not by much, 6485-7767kbps. I know we can't put too much stock in the Speed Test app, but there is some consistency and I'm getting much higher runs than I had been. Also, it seems to be reading my wifi at home with some accuracy.

Show me where I made that statement. I stated that since the LTE launch, my data speeds have suddenly increased and I'm finally seeing true hspa+, and that is a fact. I provided a couple of possible reasons for this, as someone else cited a possibility as well. I know what you saw. You saw the hosted by Comcast in the screenshot. Lol. Anybody with half a brain would know that there would have been a wifi icon in the status bar if I was on wifi. Next time you open your mouth, try not to put your foot in it. Your little signature says it all. Just because you are in a crummy area, doesn't mean it is like that everywheres.
Check my screenshot of prior tests and tell me if you see any improvement compared to yesterday and today. LOL.

I'm good. I just don't appreciate someone implying I'm either stupid or I'm a liar. It certainly isn't inconceivable that while AT&T was building the LTE network here in Houston, they were improving the backhaul for hspa+. Whatever the source of the improvement, I'm thrilled to see true hspa+ speeds. It is something I never expected to see with my Inspire.

I live in an area with no lte, I get respectable hspa+ speeds. If you have no hspa or lte, then I find that surprising. I thought at&t set out to cover areas lacking hspa with LTE first. Thats why cities like Philadelphia just got LTE today.
Anyway i recommend getting the s3. Its the best LTE phone out by far and eventually at&t will cover you with LTE.

As it has been stated above...4g or no 4g this is (imo) the best phone out there.
I live in a non-4g area and I love the phone. I figure that whatever phone I get is only gonna be 3g (most of the time) so why not buy the best.
Plus it's like a bonus treat when I travel to a city with 4g and I see the little 4g icon pop up...It's like a special gift form the city to me
This phone is a beast, 4G or not. The processor, RAM, screen, functionality, development choices, and style are just a few things that should sway you toward buying this. Wait for what? I doubt anything can be better than the GS3 for another year.

Apple confused the hell out of everyone on the 4S. I frequently talk to people with the iPhoney that think they have 4G service. Also heard of an IPOD nano coming out that is labeled 5G? or something like that. I just wish they would continue to avoid 4G service and dread the day Apple users suck up all the 4G bandwidth.
SGS3 is an awesome phone, whether you are on 3G/4G-LTE it's going to kick your old phone to the curb. The phone is faster so I could possibly pull better speeds even on 3G than your current handset. If you travel at all you'll be 4G/LTE ready and when you finally get updated locally you'll see awesome immediately.
There is also huge support for the SGS3 because of the bootloader getting unlocked a few weeks back and of course because it's just such an awesome phone period.

yea good luck with the verizon activation but technically the n5 does support band 4.. if thats all it is it might work im not sure if verizon has changed other elements that would prevent the n5 from connecting to band 4
seriously.. i know i might get some backlash for this but go to sprint and use the n5 on spark.. here in houston using the .15 modem it is truly wonderful.. worth the wait for sprints upgrades.. band 26 is so wonderful inside buildings and band 41 tho tough to get at times is amazingly fast too.
Again.. ive used spark in houston and baltimore and was impressed.. not to mention sprint has just added more b25 towers around houston making it much better in general too

Sometimes that's true, mainly because t-mobile 3g 4g relied on an unconventional band to work. However Cleveland (where I live) has been refarmed meaning all unlocked phones can use t-mobile 3g/4g. This seems to be a problem specific to my device.

I'm pretty sure as long as you are on at least 4.1.2 you can just pop in a SIM card and it will work that thread is really old. I am on 4.4.2 and can get edge data by adding in the T-Mobile apn with Samsung's stock apn manager. Your NEVER going to get it. 3g/4g only edge. And its because Verizon locks down the domestic aws for those us bands on its i535v. And it comes unlocked. So not sure what you mean there.
