We are capable of 42 down. So that is a bit slow.

Megabits per second is different to megabytes...see here...5 megabytes a second max for 42mbps.

Those speeds are pretty average for tmobile's 4g. I normally beat my friends s3's Verizon LTE speeds (8-14mbps), so don't worry about not having the media hyped lte, for now.
So I just read an article staying that Verizon has begun activating its aws lte network in at least nyc and could be expanding it to Chicago and la soon too. So does this mean we might be able to use the nexus 5 on band 4 with Verizon?
Now I know if you're not within that network coverage the device obviously won't work. Just speculating if it will work at all.

For data it could work but getting a phone call. Not happening. When they start to use Vo/LTE it could work but only on LTE so if you go out of LTE coverage you essential have a useless phone.
Until Verizon gets rid of CDMA, users will be forced to bow to their will.

I'm thinking at this point no. Cause even if it would work in just a few select areas I don't think Verizon is going to certify this phone and activate it on their network.

this is also what I'm curious about... Fingers crossed for some magic! :fingers-crossed:
So I have noticed that Sprint's coverage map is full blown LTE in my town now and was thinking about a cheap prepay Sim from Sprint to try it out. Will I have any problems doing this while its still active on my T-Mobile account? I get Sprint real cheap through work so I'm curious. Thanks.

Swap sims and reboot phone. Easy. Now getting Virgin Mobile USA to activate a Nexus 5... that's the hard part.

Yeah that's what I was worried about. I saw that ting would activate one but they made it look like it needed to be unactivated to do it. Hmm

Hi All, I'm a verizon user currently with a Galaxy S3, however in a few days my contract ends and I need a new phone (my S3 screen broke and I don't plan on fixing it) and I was wondering, is the Nexus 5 capable of fully running in Verizon network? is someone using it in verizon?
Sorry if this question has been asked many times, but I trully can't find a decent and recent answer to it.
Thanks,
Rodrigo

It only supports sprint's CDMA bands and of course pretty much any gsm carrier. As far as Verizon.. Nope

Yes.
It supports LTE on T-Mobile, AT&T, Sprint, and any MVNO/pre-paid with access to those carriers' LTE networks. I'm using it on AIO Wireless with LTE.

Absolutely not on both counts. The Nexus 5 is a GSM phone, Verizon's network is CDMA. If I were you I would ditch Verizon for either T-Mobile or AT&T, of if you prefer, you can buy service from an MVNO that uses one of their networks.

This is the reason I switched to T-Mobile after 9 years of Being on Verizon. Been with Verizon since right before my 18th bday (27 now) and after all those years of basically being pretty damn happy with my service, they let me down too many times in the last 2 years. First by the fiasco that was the Verizon version of the Galaxy Nexus, 2nd by not getting the Nexus 4 and then finally, not getting the Nexus 5.
So The fact that they, in my opinion, are ruining Android on CDMA networks, and them not carrying the Nexus 5, was just the final straw and I suspended my account until I can afford to early terminate my Two lines (which are up soon anyways, so I may just un-suspend and let them run their course) and I switched to T-Mobile, got my Nexus 4 while I waited for the 5 to be in Stock, and then Got my Nexus 5.
I also traded in the Note 3 I had on Verizon (with a locked Bootloader) for a T-Mobile version that has an unlocked bootloader.
Case in Point, Verizon is worthless for Android users.

But I'm kinda confused here. The Nexus 4 and 5 are cdma capable (for sprint), but not in Verizon's band, is this a Verizon issues? I mean couldn't google be blamed by not having the hardware that supports Verizon's specific band?

No verizon is to blame for messing up the Galaxy Nexus so bad that Google wont let them carry Nexus devices anymore, and before you ask about what htey did with the Galaxy Nexus that was so bad, use GOOGLE ! lol
oh and the hardware would support Verizon, Verizon just doesn't support the hardware
The Nexus 5 is a Sprint phone. Sprint phones can work on Verizon. How do you that? You make work through illegal methods (EXTREMELY DIFFICULT). Which is what I'm working on. My parents won't let me leave Verizon easily. So I kinda have no choice technically. But I ordered a T-mo Sim card anyways and I might just leave without saying anything. But I'm still working on it till it arrives.

Cloning to get a Nexus 5 to work CDMA on Verizon is a total waste....Evdo access only -you would be better off using a different device to WiFi hotspot and just use the Nexus 5 as a tablet until you can leave Verizon. Even if you had a friend internally add the MEID you would still be missing out on the LTE coverage. Big hassle to be going backwards in terms of data connectivity. You could make Google Hangouts calls over the tethered connection and utilizing Google Voice you can forward all calls to Google Talk/Hangouts so it would be like using a WiFi Phone.

The Nexus 5 does has Band 13 secretly built in. And I do have a friend who works as a Verizon representative. Thanks for the discouragement but I don't care I really have nothing else to do at home.

I was unaware of the Band 13 support. (I know Verizon's Band 4 LTE AWS is supported)
If you have your Nexus 5 showing Band 13 support and a Verizon rep willing to add your MEID into Verizon's approval list...then I do not see a dilemma with having a full functioning Nexus 5 on Verizon. (Nothing Illegal this route)

Not illegal I suppose but might get your friend fired for adding an officially unsupported device onto the VZW network on your behalf...

I'm a T-Mobile user and recently purchased a Verizon Galaxy S3 knowing that it supports sims from domestic GSM carriers. Everything works as it should except I get no 3G/4G even after adding a T-Mobile APN in the settings menu. Can anybody help? I am only getting edge data. The apn im using is epc.tmobile.com. Thank You.

Sometimes that's true, mainly because t-mobile 3g 4g relied on an unconventional band to work. However Cleveland (where I live) has been refarmed meaning all unlocked phones can use t-mobile 3g/4g. This seems to be a problem specific to my device.

I'm pretty sure as long as you are on at least 4.1.2 you can just pop in a SIM card and it will work that thread is really old. I am on 4.4.2 and can get edge data by adding in the T-Mobile apn with Samsung's stock apn manager. A little off topic anyone who is curious about t mobile speed my wife got a s5 through t mobile and she gets 50 mbps. I use to get that on Verizon but it has dropped down to around 20 as of late. Can't wait to get my g3 and have decent 4g speeds again. Oh I suppose I should state I live in the Minneapolis area.

So it's just edge you're getting? Mind if I ask the city where you live? T-mobile has been revamping its network in some places.

Your NEVER going to get it. 3g/4g only edge. And its because Verizon locks down the domestic aws for those us bands on its i535v. And it comes unlocked. So not sure what you mean there. I have mine on straightalk att side. But only get E. And I've tried everything but hanging upside down with tinfoil 3 matches on old sheet and singing amazing grace at midnight with a full moon. No 3g/4g. And oh. BTW. I could throw a rock from my yard and LITERALLY hit an att high speed tower. Sorry..
