SIM card dropouts - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Every now and then i get a message saying that the SIM card is missing, even though it is inserted. When i take it out after this, i get another message saying that the SIM card has been removed (different message).
All results in a prompt to restart the device when i insert it again. No way around that one, cant even press back or home.
This never happened before updating to Stock XXCLL1 JellyBean 4.1.1.
What can be the problem? Need some input on how to solve this, also is anyone else experiencing this?

Bump.

Just an FYI. I got this a lot on the rooted deoxed rom I ran. I even changed the sim without any luck fixing it.
Since I've flashed Humberos' Cm10.1 rom I have not had one message!
Worth a try if you're not addicted to stock.
Cheers

[Q] Unable to Connect to my Google Account

After Hard Resetting my Motorola Atrix 2, when i tried to connect to google account, I am getting an error message saying - Can't establish a reliable data connection.....
Below is the whole description of the problem....
4 days ago I updated my Motorola Atrix 2 with the Update. The Update downloads successfully but after rebooting I got a message saying "Update Failed".
I tried updating again but received the same error.
And 2 days after this updation process I noticed that I am unable to sign into my Google Account. None of the Google Application was opened. All I see the Window with Loading Symbol and nothing else. Neither Android Market, Nor Gmail or Youtube works. All stopped working at once.
I than searched the Internet and find some solutions saying that you need to hard reset your phone.
I did that also, I used both the method for hard resettig, i.e. 3 button method as well as Factory Reset option, but it didn't solve my problem at all.
In fact now at starting of the phone when i tried to connect to my google account, an error comes saying - " Can't Establish a Reliable Data Connection "
I had searched your forums also and find a similar thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=780545
But trying all the method given in this thread I am still unable to connect to my google account.
Kindly Help me......... Thanx in Advance
Go to Settings -> About Phone and see, are you on 2.3.5 or 2.3.6?
If you're on 2.3.5 then you can manually update through Recovery. If you're on 2.3.6 then you might want to try flashing the fxz and then manually updating through Recovery.
You might double check your apns, Might try pulling your sim and battery for about 10 or 15 min to clear your location, you should register and connect to the nearest tower after boot up. I had that issue once and it was actually the market causing the problem. Make sure it's up to date and all good.

I am still on 2.3.5........ How can I manually update through Recovery and does Manually updating will solve my problem.....???????
Still no solution
I tried many options but none of them seems working for connecting to my google account.
Than I removed My Memory Card and SIM from the mobile and connect through WiFi and I am able to connect to my google account.
The Market, Gmail, Youtube... everything starts working..
But as soon as Placed my SIM back and tried to connect through Edge/3G network i am still getting the same error and market and all other google apps just showing Loading....... even though with the same settings Internet on my device works perfectly fine.... Browser is opening all the sites pretty cool. But I am stick on the Default Google Apps that come preinstalled in the Android.
Plzzzzzz Help me guyzzzzzzz...................
Alright... I'm not quite sure what is causing your problem but I can bet that flashing the fxz will solve your problems.
There is a stickied thread in this section that has all you need to know about flashing an fxz, and more.

Ok i'll try that too and let u know whether it helps or not.
Having my finger crossed.. hope it works
Which service provider are you using? If you're not using AT&T I imagine you have the phone unlocked.. Could something wrong have happened with the unlock?
Does unlocking stay with the phone even after a fastboot flash?

Yuppp....... u r right.... I have an unlocked Atrix 2...
I am an Indian and I uses Vodafone Sim here.
And yes even after Fastboot Flash, it is still unlocked.
I was also worried when i was going to do a fastboot flash about unlocking issue.
But than i took the risk by my own and atleast after fastbooting it didn't get locked back to at&t.....
But no help regarding my issue of unable to connect to google account.
Though it works very much fine in WiFi but through SIM I am unable to do anything on google apps.
I had changed and tried the several APN's but none of them helping me...
Neither all other methods, such as Factory resetting, Youtube trick, etc , dont help me at all...
Still m searching for the solutions

Try another SIM card from your provider. This phone does have issues with SIM cards and weird things like that.

Flashing the fxz will not fix your issue, I promise. And I am not sure running SC v5 is the best option since you are having some issues. SC v5 is great, but it has some GPS issues, and a couple of other things. Since you are having this issue ONLY while using the cell singal, that should tell you that the issue lies on that part of the signal, and should be a very good lead in fixing it. I would talk with your phone provider.
Do a search on this forum for issues with atrix2 and SIM cards, this seems to fit the same bill we have been seeing over and over with phones that are not on a "true" HSPA+ "4G" style SIM card, there are even some people that had 2 of the same exact cards where one worked and the other did not. I would post a few links in here, but there are just too many to even give you a good few, to look at.
Jim
I have the same problem here.
Because sc v5.2 had a gps issue, then i go to bootstrap, wipe cache partition and wipe factory then restore 2.3.6 deodex and rebooted.
And now i can't connect to my google account.
Tomorrow i will try to restore sc v5 again and wish it will solve the problem.
Update: Restore sc v5 and now i'm able to connect to google account, but now i got fc.

Problem Solved
After so many hard reset, at last I am able to connect to my Google Account.
The most interesting fact is that problem is with the SIM's APN only.
Here in India, Vodafone provides two APN, one is "WWW" and other is "portalnmms".
I had tried both one by one but that didn't seem to work, than i found a thread on internet saying that add both the APN in a single APN, i.e., "WWW" in the APN field and "portalnmms" in the server field and change "Authentication Type" to "PAP" and leaving all other fields to default.
I did this and as soon as i saved these settings, everything starts working.
I am more than happy....

Flashed CM 10.1 Nightly - Sim Issues

Here's what I did:
From ATT stock gingerbread, I installed touch custom recovery via hiemdall, then from the custom recovery I flashed the CM 10.1 nightly zip and the jelly bean google apps.
Phone boots up fine but immediately after booting it says sim card inserted, restart to begin using... I can cancel the message and the phone will work fine except every minute or so the cell signal is lost and 15 seconds later I get the "sim card inserted message" again.
This problem does not occur on stock. I'm currently thinking the gingerbread radio isn't working well with the 4.2 rom.
I tried flashing a few radios but each one I try to flash in CWM say FAILED.
Thoughts?
Use ucmc1 radio. It's required on cm 10.1.

I just flashed the usmc1 radio successfully. I originally was trying to work with the UCLi3 ICS radio as directed by the team chopsticks website.
At the moment it seems to be working properly. It still gives me the "sim card inserted" message upon initial bootup and I've restarted a few times.
The signal is staying strong and consistent and it hasn't given me the message repeatedly like it did before though so this may be a success.
Any idea why it'd continue giving that message on initial startup? Cheers :good:
Idk, I haven't seen that issue

Your problem sounds similar to one I was having a while back. Mine would just fail to recognize a SIM. You can see my thread on the matter and the steps I took to troubleshoot it (ultimately the device was dead). I would recommend getting a new SIM from AT&T (or whichever provider you have) first and foremost.

It gives me that too sometimes on different roms, i guess it's totally normal and that the OS boots faster than the cellular services are initialised.

That is what seems to be happening. The initial boot after a factory reset I didn't get the reset which may be partly due to the initial boot taking longer than successive ones. At any rate, I'm still getting the message on each startup which isn't a deal breaker. Glad to see I'm not the only one.
Many thanks jd1639 for providing a solution to get the phone working well!

also, the Rogers jelly bean radio uxuma7 gives you an option to switch modes LTE/HSPA/GSM in different combinations.
i'd recommend it over ucmc1. i have LTE turned off by default, and save alot of battery from that, because this phone doesn't support the frequencies we have here.

Nexus 5 can't detect my SIM card (searching for service)

Hi guys, I just flashed the newest CM11 build, and a day after that, my device stopped recognizing my SIM card.
On the lockscreen it writes: "searching for service"
It also stopped to pop up the usual SIM-code screen when booting.
I tried removing the SIM and rebooting, but it still doesn't work.
Can I solve this without reflashing the ROM?
Please help!

Who knows? It could be faulty sim. Best bet is to see if its software or hardware. Return to stock with data wipe. If still not working, its hardware.

first, have you tried a different sim? have you tried your sim in a different phone? if its is your sim, just grab a new sim from your provider, you dont have to do anything else except put it in.

Hey guys... I recently encountered a problem with my nexus 5. Suddenly my phone lost signal and it won't receive any more signal.I was on the latest version of PA on 4.4.2 ...... Now I factory reset my phone and it's stuck on phone setup... What do I do?? I'll try flashing back to stock later and I'll see if it's fixed... Also, before factory resetting my phone, I checked my IMEI and it isnt gone.... It was still there.. Strange... Any suggestions on what I should do? Also, I don't have a nandroid backup....

Still no luck
Guys... Returning to stock didn't do anything... Still the same problem... Now I'm stuck in setting up the phone since it shows that my sim is inserted and it's trying to activate the sim... But it stays there forever ... I'm pretty sure it's a problem with the sim holder... When I tried removing the SIM card for the phone, it failed to eject my SIM card... Now I have to find a way to get my sim out... When I use the pin, it only opens 1/8.. It's too small to fit anything in it... What do I do?? Running out of ideas...
I could give my phone for repair but I live in Dubai and I don't think there are any service centers here...
