Hello, I have just rooted my Pantech Crossover. Its kind of a low-end phone so there isn't that much out there for it so I was wondering if there were any usable custom roms for it because I haven't been able to find any. Thanks

Wait did you root 2.2 or 2.3?

I rooted it when it had Android 2.2.1 I would like to put either 2.3 on it or Ice cream sandwich if possible.

Okay lol good. I was about to wonder how you rooted 2.3 and none of us had heard of it yet. Fyi if you do upgrade to gingerbread (software is available on pantechs website) you will lose root. Thus far no one knows how to get it back either.

I'd also like to answer your question that there's nothing in the way of custom ROMs for the crossover. Most of my luck in terms of performance has been biting the bullet, losing root, and upgrading to 2.3. From there I've installed the FTL (faster than light) launcher and turned off the lock screen. This launcher is only for 2.3+ but its tons faster than even the Zeam launcher, while still keeping aesthetics reasonable.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Ok... I can't upgrade to 2.3 because the att update is only for post paid phones. I have the crossover as a gophone. Thank you though, right now I am using launcher pro with a few 3D effects enabled and it runs pretty smooth but I will still look into the other launchers you recommended. Oh, and does the FTL launcher actually increase speed or just reduce home screen lag? Because I don't lag very much at all haha Thanks Oh wait never mind the update is on PANTECH'S website haha i found it. Now I have to decide between a rooted 2.2 or normal 2.3

Oh glad you found it on their website. I was going to say, my friends is also a gophone. It terms of speed, I would say that yes FTL does minimize home screen lag, but it also takes up less memory/background processing power. So yes technically it doesn't increase the overall phone speed as it is just a launcher, but it does minimize background usage which seems to make it faster when multitasking.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Cool, but what is your opinion on keeping it rooted with 2.2 versus normal with 2.3?
Well when I upgraded my friends phone I didn't know I would lose root. Looking back, I'd probably still do it. The phone overall seems a bit faster, just less space for apps due to more bloat.

I have the pantech crossover as well and once u update it to gingerbread 2.3.6 u do infact lose root. In order to get it back u have to search for the superuser .zip for this phone and flash it in recovery mode. Once ur phone reboots u now have gingerbread 2.3.6 with root.
I knows it mad old but any customs roms every come about you know of?

I'm with you, the only android phone i can afford. would be cool to see some cooked roms with root and OverClocking tools.
havent seen any that i know of but i dont have the phone anymore because i switched to verizon and ive got the droid incredible 2 now. with it being a low end phone tho im sure the only thing that will come out for it is another ota update if even that.
Okay I like my nexus. As a matter of fact its the best phone I've ever owned but... Am I alone when I say it can't handle jelly bean? I've noticed stutters in various places compared to ICS. Or am I missing something?

Have you tried a factory reset? Mine was running very smoothly on the OTA. I also wiped my phone before and after the update.
Honestly I don't find it that much buttery. In some app it even seems slower. But I'm running custom ROM with some restored apps.
Maybe with a total fresh start it will work better...

I had the same problem with the OTA. JellyBelly runs smooth though.
Seems a lot better than ICS 4.0.4 stock. Google now is slow to load but otherwise everything is sweet.

The search (response between pressing the search softkey and the search box came up, I need to press it again to show the keyboard) is a lot slower now thanks to Google Now, other stuffs are same for me.

Are you running OTA or some custom ROM? I tried a few different JB ROM's + kernels and wasn't very impressed. It was a very stuttery experience with lots of slowing downs. I guess i had too much junk laying around after so many flashes.
So i wiped everything, went back to stock image and got the OTA JB that way and rooted it. It's been running very smoothly ever since I wouldn't say it's a HUGE improvement over ICS..but maybe like 20% smoother. It's definitely not slower than ICS (i was running both stock ICS 4.04 and CM9 RC1 before. The only places i noticed the lack of buttery smoothness is when opening Google Now and the Camera app. The camera itself is fast and all, but the start up time is longer than i remember on ICS.
From my experience, it's actually "smoother" but not really faster than ICS.
Just went back to CM9 RC2 and I must say that it's much faster than any JB ROMs out there but just doesn't have buttery smooth animation.
I quite like JB. I don't use custom roms (I prefer stock with matr1x), and JB is nicer that ICS. Previously, recent apps was useless to me. It took forever to load. now it loads in an instant. also, I don't get ~10 seconds of lag after I install/uninstall an app, faster to boot, faster to finish loading apps after booting and the ui is much nicer. Ofc, it does stutter from time to time, but it's negligible, as far as I'm concerned. Project Butter is really doing stuff right.
Ofc, it's not as smooth and fast as on the gnex, but that's to be expected. The hw is not as good. But it does a pretty good job. I really wish google would upgrade the kernel and make it use all the ram available...don't see why they don't use it all...

Instead of pressing the search soft key just press the Google logo on the Google bar... that will bring up search faster
mine seems good
I understand your feelings, but JB on nexus s is better than ICS, maybe not faster but definitely smoother. JB does give a nicer feel to the whole phone experience.
If you're on custom rom, try the stock one Afresh. I flashed stock Ics then got JB ota. I have also used Stevens JB and oodies. But after a fresh install, the stock one seems the best. However, I'm waiting for CM10 as CM9 is definitely better than stock ICS. I'm expecting the same from CM10.

I am asking myself the same question as the op. When I got my nexus s about a year ago it replaced a horribly slow nokia n86. The new UI felt fast. With time I got used to the speed of the UI and was generally quite happy with the performance.
Then came ICS and I began to wonder. Sometimes apps took a few secons to open a certain menu, sometimes the same menu was opened in half a second. Now with JB i get the impression that these inconsistent lags are appearing even more often. A typical usecase for me:
Listening to music via BT headset -> press power -> unlock screen -> select (standard) music app -> search for a specific song.
Sometimes this works as expected with <0.5s between steps, sometimes unlocking or opening the music app takes >3 seconds.
I should note that my system is completely stock and was never unlocked or rooted. I did the OTA to ICS and now to JB as intended by google. I never whiped any cache nor did I ever reinstall. When I have the time I may try that just to see if it makes any difference. For the moment though, I am left with the impression that 512mb ram and a single core CPU are not enough for a 2012 OS.
I'm finding a big improvement over ICS. I can't say I've found anything that doesn't work at least as good as ICS and a lot of stuff works better for me. The smoothness has really improved my 'user experience'.
That being said the app developers need to play catch up and get their stuff optimized for JB.
Can't wait to try the amazing custom JB ROMs that are going to be rolling out soon as well.

Same here, I notice quite a few stutters, and I believe more than I had on ICS.
Maybe I'll try to flash stock Google ICS, and then do the official Google OTA update. The current ROM I'm using is this one, but maybe that is really not 100% the same as the Google OTA version?
Also, I'm truly disappointed at the fact that I can't use my voice on Google Now without having the whole cell phone in English. If I don't have the menus in English, all it does is Google searches... Basically seems like anyone that doesn't speak English natively is alienated.
Hopefully chainfire updates chainfire 3d opengl driver to work with jb .
Made ICS significantly smooth should do same with JB
Currently using CM10 and it works perfectly. I have not seen any lag whatsoever so i am pretty happy with it. I used the stock OTA but it was a major battery drain. That's really all I have seen that is negative.

Can try to disable Force GPU rendering in Developer options to solve shutters.
On my i9023 JB, the graphic is slower but my battery life has improve than on ICS. Dont know it is because of JB or I reset the batt setting b4 upgrade to JB.
How well does the nexus s run jb? I know this phone is getting older, and is the most recent version of android laggy or buggy in any way? Is the stock slow, are the jb roms any better? Thanks, Im thinking of getting a nexus s pretty soon so thats why im asking. Thanks!

JB >>>> ICS IMHO.I have not used stock JB Rom so i cannot comment on that but Custom Roms are pretty good.Lag is still there but it's a 2 year old device so that's ok.
Depends who you ask..
Some will say it's laggy, unusable, and the bane of their existence.
Some say it runs just dandy and have no issues.
I'm in the just dandy camp.. Does it run like it does on a Galaxy S3? Of course not, that's just silly to expect. But some folks act like it runs as if you just installed Windows Vista on a 386. Which isn't true at all.
In summary - It's faster than ICS (by a decent amount), but slower than Gingerbread (and not by much). Also, you'll probably get a ton of ROM and Kernels suggestions to use but honestly stock AOSP JB runs just fine too.
SlimBean 2.6 + marmite 4.8 kernel, you won't regret it!
CM10 nightlies are running beautifully on my NS4G.

I just recently pulled out my white GSM Nexus S & flashed the Google system images for 4.1.1... It is a bit slow but i think thats to be expected with older hardware. It didnt take long for me to flash a CM10 nightly. I rarely overclock my devices but i set the clock speed to 1.2ghz on CM10 & im pretty impressed so far. I've ran a few nightly's & i'm on 10/4/12 right now. it seems stable and smooth & i havent had any issues.
Having said all that, its my opinion that JB runs better than 4.0 on the Nexus S but not as well as CM7.2 on the Nexus S. i wasnt personally satisfied with stock 4.0 or stock 4.1. But then again you know the old saying about opinions lol

I've tried many JB ROMS:
STOCK ROM: It's ok, it's not faster than GB and laggy sometimes
CNA 3.6 ROM: this is a pretty good rom, a lot of options, faster than stock rom and you can overclock it.
AOKP JB Build 4: this is the best rom i've tried so far, no lag at all, as fast as GB, highly customizable, comes with Nova Launcher, everything run very smooth, like a hot knife in butter :victory:
CM 10 nightlys: haven't tried.
As some have noticed, the JB leaks have removed the HDMI overscan option in the settings. I have a slightly modified Bionic Lapdock that I have been running my maxx hd on, but with JB the resolution isn't right and there is no way to fix it. Can ICS be run in a safestrap slot while the main system has JB? I tried simply backing up a rooted ICS system and restoring it to a new slot, and it starts to boot, plays the sounds but then never gets past the droid eye. Any ideas, either for fixing HDMI on JB or running ICS using safestrap? Would like to stay on JB for main usage, but its killing me not being able to use my lapdock.

I'd suggest chillin for a few more days until the non-leaked version is out to make sure it's not just a leak issue.
Words of wisdom, but patience is so hard! I can deal until then, but I am going to be one sad panda if the actual release doesn't fix this issue.

i have the same problem, but with the atrix hd and the bionic dock, for now, i suggest to write to them about it!
ill have time in month or two to look into this myself, if its not hardcoded in kernel, maybe we can find a way.

The reason this won't work, is regardless of which ROM slot you're using, you run off the stock slot kernel. The ICS kernel cannot run JB and vice/versa.

How can CM10 run in a slot with ICS stock? I really want to get this to work on mine.
The OG Razr has two different types of Jellybean roms. One type runs on the ICS kernel and one runs on the Jellybean kernel. This guy would be the former.
Which official Os gives best performance?
I am confused that which is suit atrix 2 best.
Gingerbread gives lot of free ram and all games are working nicely without any lag. Lot of free ram allow to use many apps at time. But some software need ics to run.
Ise cream sandwich gives better graphics, fast use interface, capability of playing more hd video smoothly. But it consumer lot of ram, Some games lag some time, use of heavy home screen consume lot of ram and very few ram remain free for gaming. Also ics takes more ram to run each application compared to ics.
Jelly bean leak, it is still in developing. May official get in Asian country. And using latest Os is always a good feeling. Don't know about ram usage gaming and multitasking speed. Don't know about is the hardware of atrix 2 is really capable of using jb.
I haven't tried gingerbread but tried jb and ics. Jb is faster than ics but a little bit laggy anyway. If to compare with Atrix 4g with GB, atrix 4g is much more faster. I guess that GB for a2 is fastest OS also.

It's not called OS. They are just different versions of android and Android is the OS.
My experience, GB was awesome, least laggy among all, but when 4.2 is out with so many new goodies, u feel like a noob if u r still with GB (atleast me! )
ICS was the most laggy among all. So made a switch to JB.
JB is great. Best from google so far I believe!

Also, anybody knows how to configure Cisco VPN with Group Authentication? I am struggling for it.

Oh
If you get ICS you can get an unofficial cm 10 (or a cm 10 based rom) which is an upgrade i would recommend.
Of course you cant use the camera and apns sometimes get deleted and you cant add them back.
Oh and be aware that right now we cant go back to GB...

I suggest switching to JB leak. It's being tested on ATT phones by Jim. It should be here soon. And it's completely stable with some minor bugs. Camera and everything else works.
As for the APNs you could manually write it down and add back
