What is 1.5 and 1.7?
And as far as yellowish screen is concerned, I also have this issue with my phone (S3). I read some other users also reported it.
When viewing the screen, it looks a bit yellowish, however if i tilt it a bit forward or backward, the yellowish color goes away and white looks bright and pure white.
My phone also has JB. I got this phone already upgraded to JB, so not sure whether the same thing was on ICS or not.

1.5Ghz Snapdragon S4, 1.7Ghz Snapdragon S3.
I have the S4 and I have no problems with the colours from the display, white is definitely white, just the bloody RGBG display that HTC fitted is my only complaint with the screen.

Oh okay, he was talking about the processors . I thought some software version he was talking about.
Anyway it seems that some units have this yellowish screen issue, I read somewhere one S4 user also had a same issue with his phone's display. I have S3 phone, and same issue.
And what is wrong with RGBG display? I mean what change does this type of display do?

I reckon it's just Samsung sending HTC some dodgy displays. Luck of the draw I suppose, the processor plays no part.

http://www.wikitech.hu/uploads/2012/01/rgb-stripe-vs-rgbg-vs-rgbw-pentile.png < This is a image of digital screen display matrix'. The top one is the conventional display that the large majority of all digital displays use. The bottom two are Samsung's new PenTile displays. The main purpose of them is to save battery (which is why most people were staggered by the battery life of the One S on stock ICS). Basically, you only got 2/3 of a pixel on each pixel, because either red or blue has been sacrificed. The HTC One S has the middle one, the bottom one is used on a couple of Motorolas, the point of that display is to give superior performance in bright light.

Yeah seems processor has nothing to do with yellowish display. Only some units have it and unfortunately my phone is one of them. I do not like the yellowish screen, white looks beautiful.
And thanks for the display info

You could purchase a LCD screen made for the HTC Sensation/Sensation XE. Same screen size, same resolution, fits into the slot, and it is a proper RGB display, so you will notice the difference. Your battery life will decrease a little bit though, and obviously, the warranty is void if you open the phone up (although you have probably already made it void by unlocking the bootloader)
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HTC-SENSA...K_Replacement_Parts_Tools&hash=item2ebce9c4b1 £19.95 from eBay, although it is debatable whether you would trust something from eBay.

Well, instead of changing the display, i would rather prefer a new phone. I recently got this phone (in feb), quite satisfied with its overall performance except the display and some lags in games (esp subway surfer, most others run smoothly) in JB update. But that is okay now. Will use this phone for coming months then i might think of getting a new one. May be nexus 4 or some other phone.

I would definitely get the HTC One (M7 version). That will be a mighty beast of a phone. However, my Business Studies teacher has the Nexus 4, and he uses it for the projector, and that thing is lightning quick. For the price that it is available at direct from Google play, you definitely cannot go wrong.

Htc one would be expnsive for me. I prefer a mid ranged phone. If SGS III price drops a bit more, i would probably get it.
Nexus 4 isnt officially available in Pakistan, but local dealers have it. But right now it is a bit over priced here in Pakistan. Its price is dropping, and hopefuly will adjust in next few months. In fact one of the jnline shops (in Pakistan) also recommended to wait if u want to get it in good price.

Question about the screen S4G

Good day fellas,
I'm seeing a lot of video and comments on screen comparisons between Htc sensation 4G and Gs 2 and on.
My question is, I'm currently on SG 1 looking to upgrade to either sensation 4G or GS2, I'm concerned about the screen quality, I'm debating wether I should order the phone or not. I can get it at a very low price (employee pricing).
The phone has a higher res. Screen, I'm trying to convince myself that the difference in screen quality is not that big, but I would like you guys to tell me what you think from your experiences, is the GS2 worth the extra $, is the screen really that much better than the S4G, anything else from your point of view that should be considered???
Thanks in advance,
Rodi

No screen washout for me, as well.
Also something to add, in almost all the videos comparisons, when looking at the phones side by side the sensation looks practically white in comparison to the gs2. My only concern with the phone is the screen.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
I personally got a Sensation while my GF has a GS2, you can clearly see that both screens aren't the same: one is SLCD & the other is AMOLED.
The GS2 has saturated, neon-ish colors which at some times seem a bit too much, it is particularly notable in the android market: the green is VERY saturated. When put side by side it can make the Sensation seem very washed out.
I have also read on wikipedia that AMOLED displays have a shorter life compared to SLCD because of the organic components in it. The varied lifespan of the organic dyes can cause a discrepancy between red, green, and blue intensity. This leads to image persistence, also known as burn-in.
After a few weeks of use I've got used to my phone and am truly happy about my display, even though it isn't as saturated as the GS2 it still is a great LCD display with rich colors, clear whites & deep blacks and my movies look crystal sharp on it. Also the extra resolution is very much appreciated and is quite notable when I compare it to my GF's GS2, specially in the menus, mails & internet browser - the pixels aren't noticeable.
What I can tell you is that I was faced with the same choice as you: HTC Sensation or SGS2 and the display was also the most important thing for me since it's the way you interact with your phone. And i'm glad I chose the Sensation
Cool thanks for the info, I just ordered it from my work

[Q] LCD Ghosting?

Hi all, I moved form galaxy s to sensation and been wondering about screen ghosting. Is every sensation have this ghosting when circle through the screen and scrolling? This is not happen in galaxy s at all. Sensation is great (fast, stable, love sense 3.0) but this bug me a little.
I have this issue. Its really annoying, some users call it tearing..dont know proper word. It can be clearly seen when scrolling white text on black background. Black text on white background is not so bad but overall screen is low quality by my opinion. Terrible viewing angles also. My old desire has alslo slcd but its much better quality. Another issue can be seen when browsing xda forums trough browser..when scrolling whole screen is changing colors, blinking slightly..Will wait for new nexus and then I will sell it..
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA Premium App
Its called screen tearing yes, the pixel response time from a color change or screen movement causes this effect. The sensation has different screens but from my observation all have the ghosting effect, but its only noticeable with black pixel change, some colors can be harder to change rapidly against other colors and it seems to be the case with the sensation screen.
hmm ... I've been using my sensation for 3 months now, ... never had screen tearing. Maybe you can ask for a replacement?

I certainly do not have this problem. Even when scrolling a white text on a black background (like in settings), the text is still very sharp and clear
AFAIK, Sensations' LCDs are manufactured by few different companies.
There are "good batch" and "poor batch" sensations, similar to any other htc's smartphones (eg: HD7)
I have read about few people having this problem in this forum. Try getting a replacement, Hopefully, that one wont be having this issue anymore
I have used 6 Sensations. Four of them had this problem and all four displays were the one made by Acer. It was very noticeable in the settings menu. The two Sharp panels my wife and I have do not do this.

never got that in sgs which is last year model. that's y i am a bit annoyed as i upgrade not downgrade.
my cousin's sensation has this ghosting its really bad, the screen response time is very low anything higher then 30FPS will revel bad ghosting
my desire Hd has very slight ghosting
my old classic desire SLCD/Amoled screen had non of this
sensation XL has an amazing IPS screen with very high response time
so i dont know, lets hope HTC learned how bad this is, ICS is 60fps GPU accelerated UI, low response screens are not welcome
hard to believe we are discussing LCD response times in this time and age, i wanted to buy my cousin's sensation but now i stopped
oh and by the way the HD2 4.3" have non of the ghosting or pattern issues what the hell?!

This... just took apart a defective LCD I got from China. It's an Acer brand unit that looks fuzzy as if there's a film on the screen.
I had a Sensation when they first came out (Sharp screen) and knew I had a new faulty LCD the minute I turned this one on. Needless to say is going back and I'm in the hunt for a Sharp unit. Not worried about dust as I'm going seal it up real good when i finish the repair
Lol I've opened this phone up so many times in the last couple days i can swap screens perfectly in less than 20 mins from start to finish
Yes i can agree i have never had this problem either

Will Manufacturers still make "small" phones like the sensation again?

Lol, the One S has the same screen size and is roughly the same size over all as the Sensation, though the One S is thinner. It also has a faster CPU clock (compared to original Sensation), more RAM, more internal SYSTEM memory, triple the data speeds (based on theoretical top speeds), a larger battery (though as we all know it's not removable), and drastically improved camera sensor. Sounds like a worthy successor to me!

Well, the unibody has one big advantage: the phone feels rock solid, the case won't make "squeaks" in time like the one on the Sensation does. But I can't stand the fact that I can't replace my damn battery.
Regarding screen size: for me 4.3" is big enough. 4.7" phones tend to be unconfortable in skinny jeans and hard to use single handed (ex: when you're behind the wheel).

Only an advantage if it bothers you. I build **** all the time, perfection is not easily attained. When it comes to a device with multiple radios, portable power, a screen, user interaction, etc etc, all in a 11ish mm frame, I'm grateful that it creaks and squeakes.

I think we can put in another way.
For me is a nonsense to talk about display size, because it can be a 4.3" but with a big bezel. ONE S has a bigger bezel for example (just go and read the dimensions, you'll see more mm than sensation). So the important thing is the overall dimension.
I think that the perfect phone has a 720p rgb full display (4.3, or 4.5 with no bezel I don't care), with a removable long lasting battery and with dimensions smaller than 64*125.
Sealed it better. It means the battery can be bigger while the phone remains skinny. It's not like you can't use an external battery anyway.

Whit the bezel getting too thin, problems arise. You will, unintentionally touch the screen with the side of your palm and it will be more likely to break it.
For me, the sensation has the perfect size. This trend for bigger and bigger screens is just madness. If I want a big screen, I just grab my tablet and give that a go.
You're right, but first I think that they could develop some kind ok sensor technology able to distinguish when you're just holding it and when you mean to touch it, second if it's impossible to reduce the bezel, well okay just make the screen smaller to fit 64x125

in terms of smaller housing on phone you guys need to remember that it needs to pass drop tests. that is the reason verizon didn't get the original razer. when moto brought it to verizon they took it at waist height and dropped it on the floor and the demo broke. it was rejected until it could pass their drop tests which were the strictest in the industry next to nextel. since then they have drastically reduced their drop test criteria. strength of the bezel is part of that test. they can create a super thin fast badass phone but it it breaks on a 1 foot drop then it will meet with *****ing and complaining from everyone. the one s seems to be a nice combination of small and strong.
The xperia s has the same CPU as the sensation

ATT first vs second shipment

After reading many build and quality issues with the 1.73 original shipment handsets, I was wondering if people with the factory 1.85 second shipment handsets are seeing the same issues.
Personally I have a second shipment 1.85 handset and it is very well built, great on battery, no dead pixels on any color, rarely gets hotter than warm, very minimal light bleed on lower right corner on all black screen, no corners lifting up and running like a superstar with clean Rom 3.0(ran outstanding on factory 1.85 also).
Only issue I am having is the phone seems to take longer to charge than my inspire or vivid with real HTC charger. I have tried more than one. Not so long that I think there is an issue, just longer than I have experienced in the past.
Please post your experiences with 1.73 vs 1.85 handsets and maybe we can figure out what has been fixed on the production line so far.
Personally I think they definitely tweaked it and fixed some early build issues.
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA
I had an original 1.73 and dropped it so I replaced it and got a 1.85 device. For me, they are both EXACTLY the same. Never had any issues on the first one.
I got a 1.85 One X about a week ago. Strangely, the box it arrived in was somewhat warm (for whatever reason), and the device was warm when I first took it out of the box, but I don't believe that's affected anything on the phone. Everything seems in good shape with this model; my only question is the light bleed you're referring to on the bottom right corner of the display. I think I have that too. When it's an all black display, or at least all black in the bottom right corner, it seems to be a little bit "brighter" in that area, so to speak. I also notice that the "stage light" arrangement for the backlit display on the bottom of the display (above the capacitive buttons) seems a little brighter in that bottom right corner. Sorry for the rambling, but is that what you're referring to?
On a side note, that "stage light" appearance of the backlights on the bottom of the display are supposed to be like that, according to an HTC Customer Representative. In case any of you were wondering lol.

4 of my HOXs had those "stage lights" as you call them, one didn't have them at all. The one that didn't have them had a really crappy screen that was all washed out and had yellowish whites. All the ones that did have them had vivid colors and bright white whites. Be happy your display is the one with the visible backlights, the other one sucks.

This one that I just got today *seems* perfect. I say seems because as history has taught me 4 times over, only time will tell.
I have a 1.73 and have had zero issues with build, the only issue I had was software (clock not updating time when on wifi and coming out of deep sleep)...which has not returned since the 1.85 update. I have rooted and unlocked bootloader and currently running cleanrom 3.0, standard...and DEV editions! It has never run hot, screen is flawless, and I am happy

I dont think having 1.85 on the phone qualify the device as second shipment. Maybe one of the many numbers on the box would indicate to this. My first was 1.73 but had a dead pixel, then my second was 1.85 and was about the same minus the dead pixel.

i had my first one replaced at bestbuy for dead pixels. He took out a new one x and had dust under the screen. So he set that one aside and gave me another which over all is good. However when I push down on the screen I can see an ink looking blotch show up for a second. Kind of annoying.
Agreed -Does take longer to charge
But I love the battery life on the HOX running 1.85.
I've had mine a couple days before it released on AT&T officially and my co worker has a white One X from the second shipment and our battery life is identical. Give or take an hour or so but build is exactly the same. We do this for a living and are very particular about our devices. I actually swapped mine out twice until I got the perfect one -_-

So glad I DOA'd my phone. Battery life is much better. Haven't had any wifi issues anymore. And the vibrate motor doesn't rattle.
I can't tell the difference between the two build quality wise. I know that I battery life changes drastically from phone to phone. The grey one I had the battery was perfect. I thought it was getting too hot so I exchanged it. Boy do I wish I didn't. These replacements aren't coming close to that battery life. I'm doing all I can to get one that does and hey if AT&T wants to keep sending me replacements then I'll take em.

I currently got the HTC Desire HD and kinda love it. But it starts to get too slow, battery gets worse and so I thought about getting a new phone.
The HTC One S looks nice, perfect size, good performance, good camera and due to the AMOLED it looks like the battery last long enough as well.
But how does the AMOLED display quality look like compared to e.g. my Desire HD ? How abour reading from the display at sunny days?
Thanks
Get it you won't be sorry. Screen is a thing of beauty.

I got it recently, chose it over OneX and S3 because of its size, and couldn't be happier with it. You won't be sorry if you get One S. Search similar threads for more info.
Make sure HTC sells the s4 version of the phone your country.

Ye I would get the S4. I am just curios about the AMOLED quality compared to other phones. Besides that it should be perfect for me
TBH I love my AMOLED. Colors are nice and sharp and its barely pixelated.

The display is great and one thing, which definitely deserves more praise rather than just being slated by a number of people and review sites. Sure the screen isn't as good in terms of sharpness and screen real estate compared to the GS 3, one X, GN and SE phones due to the 720P res. but the colours of it are superb and IMO better than the GN (too dull), GS 2 (too over saturated), SE phones (personally not really keen on their displays when it comes to the colours) and also the GS 3 screen, but the best thing about the one S screen is just how good it performs when in sunlight (as in sun shining right on the screen), I can see stuff (even on black backgrounds) without even having to squint my eyes (and that isn't even with 100% brightness, only like 70% brightness selected) where as with the GS 2 etc. I always have to cover it slightly with my hand in order to make a text or website etc. out. And with my S, there is no yellow/blue tints at all, no matter what brightness I put the mobile to, whites are extremely bright white (better than my dell U2311H), this will vary from unit to unit though.
IMO the desire HD has one of the worst displays ever, colours are extremely washed out, viewing angles are non existent, and it isn't that sharp either.
I do notice the pentile matrix, however, I only notice it when I have my face right up to the screen or am really concentrating on trying to spot the effects of it. The most noticeable areas I notice it are on the notification icons and white/grey text on black backgrounds.
From one of the best sites when it comes to hardware stuff and so knows what they are talking about:
I’ve griped about PenTile RGBG before on this panel and other SAMOLED displays, but I find the One S to be completely enjoyable in spite of having it thanks to two things. First, how well HTC has controlled the panel (no awful hues, weird white points, or dramatic shifts as you change brightness) - this is basically the best I’ve seen this particular panel, and until SGS3, the best I’ve seen AMOLED in general. Second, because HTC doesn’t appear to be applying any processing that applies sharpening (like Samsung’s mDNIe) to text.
How you feel about PenTile really is the final factor: it’s there, but I’ve slowly become accustomed to it after staring at it for so long. If you go back to the Nexus S days, I was one of the most outspoken critics because of how large those subpixels were. With small enough subpixels (below visual acuity), PenTile starts to make sense. In other news, HTC moving back to Samsung AMOLED for phones is an interesting move after supply issues forced HTC to SLCD with some earlier phones, here on the HTC One S however, it looks great.

Although as always, you should check out for yourself first to see what you think.
Imo, I would get the OneS if I were you.
I also came from the DHD, an moved forward after the no update fiasco.
I am on pre-pay and did not want to sign a contract again, actually ever but that's another issue, so I shopped around for the OneS on sell in different places. I could not swing full retail so I looked for NIB phones that are turned over fast.
Well long story short is, I looked and looked for a slightly used phone and never scored one sadly, I would up grabbing a OneX NIB for under 400 and couldn't say no to that price.
However I still like an want a OneS, nice form factor coming from the DHD and really is a sharp looking phone.
Would I suggest one to my friends, in a heartbeat.
Get yourself a OneS an rock on.

Same here. One X is so awesome big Take One S S4 - great phone. But remember using a case when you order the black version, cause after some time the color in the edges turns silver...
