Desktop dock A2DP

So, I'm probably getting my Nexus One in a couple days, and I wanted to get the Desktop Dock with it. One thing about it that I wanted to know, however, is if the phone needs to be in the dock in order to play music through it (since it uses A2DP) and if not, if it's just a standard A2DP device so I can use my iPod touch with it, too.
your Ipod wont' work with the dock. N1 has 3 connector pins on the bottom which needs to be connected to your dock in order to play music through the dock.

So, even though those are just for charging and letting the phone know that it's in the dock and the audio is done via Bluetooth it still won't work as a standard A2DP device?

This is not entirely true. After the initial pairing of the N1/Dock (and selecting to use it for sounds/media) you can just select the Dock from the list of BT devices and manually pair with it. It will then route the appropriate audio through the dock, no need to actually have it sitting in the dock at all.
So, in theory it could work with your iPod touch if you can get the 2 to pair.

I don't know if it will work with the ipod touch, but I tried it with my iPhone (testing/development only!!) and it didn't work, it kept giving errors and such... the same happened when I tried pairing the dock with the computer, same thing.. I think HTC "crippled" the dock to only allow mac addresses from htc phones, or even nexus one only... **** ive never tried it with my G1 (i'll repost with that)
UPDATE: no luck making it work with a G1. Yeap, apparently the dock only likes to eat bacon.

I don't have the foggiest if you can do this, but http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MAC_spoofing ? Spoof the mac address in a PC bluetooth adapter to see if it really is looking for the nexus one MAC address or if it is looking for a particular PIN code?
I honestly thing the third pin on the nexus one is what does the pairing between the dock and the nexus one. And you need to duplicate the functionality of this pin to get it work properly.

I could try that. But, I will say that I really don't think that third pin is for that, and here's why; you can connect your nexus via bluetooth to the dock without docking. Enable bluetooth and the Desk Dock will show up in the list, connect to it and done.
And yes, you can do this with any nexus without ever docking, I tried it with mine but I had already docked it in the past. Then I tried it with another N1 that was never docked and it worked as well.

The third pin is just so the phone knows its docked and launches the clock app (and connects bluetooth if you have it setup that way). You would be correct in the fact that you can connect your N1 without the dock, I do it all the time so I can skip tracks streaming to my stereo with out walking over to the dock.

Exactly, in more technical words, the third pin is makes the system send a DOCK_EVENT broadcadt with the DESK_DOCK extra and the phone acts accordingly.
I developed an app that simulates this, its on the market, "Dock Simulator".
So no way to pair regular a2dp devices to dock other than Nexus?

No, I think the dock is doing some kind of mac authentication to only allow a nexus one to connect to it.

Oh hmmmm... Has to be a way to spoof it? It's a simple receiver? Maybe someone will figure it out and make an app for it lol.
Could it be that the password is not just 0000? Anyone check the bluetooth files on the N1 for other passwords?

maybe spoofing the mac address of the device, an app won't do this. I would look into it but my desktop's HDD is screwed up and my laptop sucks.

I don't think that it's the password, and I very highly doubt it's the MAC address. My computer pairs just fine with it if I don't use a password. The problem is that it has trouble activating the A2DP profile of the dock.
I haven't tried but I am thinking that there is a mismatch in passwords. Either way the Nexus One has a profile set up for the dock in /system/etc/AudioBTID.csv and I am sure there is info in AudioPara4.csv
I am sure this will help spread some light on it.

Speaker dock not working, any suggestions?

Hello everyone. I bought a Digital Innovations universal android speaker dock. It was highly recommended by a friend and has great reviews online. When I got it the connection to my One X was spotty at best. When I would plug in the 3.5mm jack into my phone, sometimes my phone would recognize that a headphone cable was plugged in and other times it would not. I thought maybe it was the dock itself so I had it replaced. I got the new one today it does the same thing, except that I can not get the phone to recognize that the jack is plugged in at all.
I decided that I would try other devices. I plugged in an MP3 player, and it worked fine. I tried a second MP3 player and that worked too. Finally I tried an iPhone and that too worked. I cant figure out why my One X will not recognize that a headphone cable has been plugged in. If I use standard headphones the phone recognizes them immediately. Does anyone have any idea why this might be happening and what I can do about it?
This is the dock I got: http://www.digitalinnovations.com/universal-speaker-dock-for-android.html
Hi there, I'm posting from Sonr, we designed the dock you are using. This is the first time I've seen that problem. The closest I've seen was with a Sony Ericson phone that had a non standard wiring pattern on the plug, but based on what you are saying, standard headphones work. Now, just to clarify, when you say headphones, you mean like mp3 player headphones, not a phone headset, the distinction being that the headset has a built in mic. Also, when you say "standard headphones" do you mean ones that came with the phone or ones that came from another vendor (and not specifically designed for the one X).
As you can probably tell, I'm trying to isolate if the headphone jack configuration is non standard physically (like the Sony Ericson phone) or if the issue is something else.
Thanks for the response. I've now used three different types of headphones/headsets. Two were standard headphones and one was a phone headset. All three worked fine on my HTC One X.
I did find work around to get the dock to worl, but it will not work with the Sonr app. The solution was to go and buy a 3.5mm stereo plug extension. I connect the dock to that and the other end to my phone. I can now play audio from my phone through the dock, but the Sonr app will not find my phone. It's a start and I'm getting closer but I would love to be able to use the remote and built in buttons.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
Ugh. I'm really sorry we didn't catch this in testing. We have plenty of other HTC phones, but not this one. It sounds like we need to acquire one. Based on what you're saying, this phone has another non standard headphone configuration, and we need an adapter for it. If you are game for helping us debug this, contact me directly at [email protected] com and I'll get you some adapters to test. Again, I apologize for the trouble.
I would gladly help out, especially if it means the possibility of me using my dock to its full capabilities. I just sent you an email and look forward to hearing back from you.

Cell phone hooked up to Wifi adapter

Hey all, i havent been on this fourm in awhile and I thought Id come on here to talk about an idea i have. Iv been looking for a way to have a better wifi signal on my phone, not just at home but also for public wifi spots. Then i thought of those usb Wifi adapters you can hook into your computer. Is it possible to use your cell phones usb charging cord and plug a wifi adapter into it and increase your cell phones wifi capabilities. I have a new samsung galaxy note , so i was hoping that this phone would be able to do the job. This phone is like a mini computer so i am considering trying it but just wondering if anyone else has had success with this or has any opinions.
a mod on the phone would also be required

MHL OTG

Does anyone have an idea whether its possible to use MHL + OTG with charging on the Skyrocket? Whether it be stock or an aftermarket rom/kernel doesn't matter. I can't seem to find a definitive answer on this phone, but I'm leaning toward not possible.
This is what I planned on ordering. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009LAZG2M/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I would assume since the MHL adapter puts the device in charge mode, it wouldn't read the attached usb device (if using a hub or y adapter) since it is not in Host mode. Any have any experiance with this or have any links they can provide. It would be much appreciated!

I have the same cable and mhl works as long add the rom supports it. As for your question I found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1741583&page=21 and on the last page there is a link for someone who got it to work on as3 however our phones have different pin configuration but you should be able to do the same thing as him
OTG while using MHL sounds like a great way to fry something important on your phone. it's clear the note 2 had something like this in mind with the smart dock. it looks like the smart dock works with the S3 so it could be that the way they designed the usb port it all just works as needed for this.
I'm interested in the usecase/motivation for doing both at the same time if you don't mind sharing.

Well my Skyrocket screen was destroyed by my youngest son So, I had an idea to use the old phone with the MHL adapter to connect to my TV (which is not a smart TV). The need for the OTG is to plug in peripherals such as kb/mouse, but after further review, i could probably just use bluetooth. The device itself doesn't need to have much storage really, all of the movies are being streamed from my mini home server (DLNA).
So instead of going out and spending 60 on a smart TV adapater, I figured I would try to make use of what I already had, a phone with a broken screen. I'm not even sure the digitizer works and I was unable to find a replacement screen a decent price. The phone has already been replaced with a Nexus 4, so I'm not really concerned with the "safety" of the skyrocket.
I think it would be nice to use it as a TV adapter, surf net, play games watch movies while in bed using a wireless mouse/keyboard.
You would think there would already be something like this out there...
I came across this, then noticed their statement "Use Bluetooth keyboard for wireless control" Which really tells me no OTG... and heard was broken ha.

Using LG G5 on Ethernet network

Hello.
I recently came into possession of an LG G5 Android phone, T-Mobile variant H830. I was planning to use it for software development, and I was wondering if there's a way to get it to connect to the internet using my ADSL connection. I'm fairly new to the wonderful world of Android, so please bear with me.
I realize Wi-Fi is the path of least resistance... but it's not the best option in this particular house and I have a fine Ethernet network just sitting there waiting to be used. Also, my old Windows Phone (ducks) is able to use it just fine.
I have a USB type C hub (a Microsoft HD-500 display dock) and a small collection of USB to Ethernet adapters (Realtek RTL8153, ASIX AX8872B). Unfortunately, the LG G5 has no interest in recognizing any of them.
I've also played around with reverse tethering to my PC, but apparently it requires root access to even work, and even after that it doesn't even work very well.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make this work? Should I be looking into flashing LineageOS? Or maybe I just have the wrong phone?
Thanks.
Today's progress: I played with an app called ReverseTethering, which works by establishing a VPN connection to its host PC over an ADB-controlled USB pipe. Most apps seem fine with it. However, the Google Play Store insists on using Wi-Fi to download apps and won't recognize a reverse-tethered connection. It does resume in-process downloads over the connection, but won't initiate new ones. My conclusion is that this is an app bug, and that it is checking for Wi-Fi when it really should simply be checking for a valid connection.
There's an app called Fake Wifi that will apparently hack apps into thinking their connection is over Wi-Fi when it's not. However, this app needs a framework that requires a rooted device. So, back to square one.
(NB: I'd prefer not to root my device for security reasons.)
Today's progress: connecting a Sharkk UH-SKRJ11 (RealTek RTL8153 chipset) directly to the phone using a USB C-to-A adapter works. A couple of apps seem iffy about it, including the Google Maps offline downloader, but the Google Play Store and the LG updater work. So this is probably as good as it gets without major surgery.
This suggests that the problem was in fact the Microsoft HD-500 display dock. It would charge the phone, but the phone didn't seem to recognize it as a USB hub.
Does anyone have a suggestion for a USB Type C hub that works with this phone? Ideally I'd like to use Ethernet and charge at the same time.
Hello,
I work on the desktop team at a company and we started using Dell's DW-15 USB-C docks since Dell is phasing out the E-port. Out of curiosity, I plugged my phone into one a couple of months ago and everything but the display output works. We also have Dell 96NPS USB-C to Ethernet adapters that work fine with the G5.
I have this here.
Bought from eBay. Works on both G5 and V20. Should work on any phone that supports SlimPort.
I have connected it to the phone with display and various peripherals. Did not try ethernet dongle though.
I'm a bit puzzled that the Microsoft dock did not function right. I though that too was simply a display/slim-port design. Or maybe it's only the hub/otg functionality that's unavailable?
@askermk2000: thanks for the note. Any idea what the model number is on that device?
The Microsoft dock situation is quite odd. Before fully patching the OS (the phone arrived with the March security patch, I think) it wouldn't see anything at all on the dock (which has a Surface Ethernet Adapter aka RTL8153 plugged in). After patching, it suddenly started working, and working fine. Then after patching up to latest, it sort of half-works. It connects and data flows, but the phone pops a "Connecting" message for a minute every so often, as if it were pulling a new DHCP address or something. When connected directly to the Ethernet adapter, things work fine.
(And when I say fine, I mean mostly fine. Every now and then I plug in the adapter and nothing works. Disconnecting and reconnecting sometimes works. Changing USB connection settings sometimes works. Sometimes rebooting works. <shrug>)
@Keynesian
I'm sorry but there is not a single marking on that thing. A truly generic device.
That exact one seems to have become rare now. This looks like the successor, though it has one less usb port than mine.
Here's a listing of mine.
There are many generic types, with or without hdmi, one or more usb etc
One option with aluminum housing, 1 usb 1 hdmi and usb-c power input should cost no more than about $10
I think I got mine for around that (which is a more expensive model), but I got lucky and found a lonely expiring auction. Saved maybe $20
Weird about that dock of yours. Hopefully you'll have better experience with another one.
If I had an ethernet dongle I'd try to confirm if it works with or without the dock on my H850, but that could also depend on the type of chipset and driver used (and LG's flavor of the month it seems).
Just ordered one of these off Ebay. We'll see how it goes in a month:
