Ok so i have an unusual problem...well my wife more specifically...in the last year or so my wife has had 3 different phones, all on verizon. The HTC Incredible, HTC Thunderbolt, and currently the Samsung Galaxy Nexus.
Each phone has begun giving her freezing and random reboot problems after only a couple weeks use.
The Inc was mine before she got it and i NEVER had any problems with freezing/reboots. And it was never rooted.
The thunderbolt was bought used from Gazelle(thru ebay) and also not rooted when the problems started( i did root/flash rom afterwards but the problem came back). I also had a different thunderbolt and never had these issues.
And now we are on the Galaxy Nexus (both bought brand new right from Verizon). She is once again having freezing and phone power off problems.
What the heck could she possibly be doing to her phones to cause this?!?
If any more info is needed please just ask.
Thank You!!!
What are the external variables that have changed? ie is she charging the phone in a different car? Aftermarket batteries? That's weird though, I cant see it happening on 3 phones...
Had an issue with software once that killed 4 phones. Something about overclocking an the phones frying out.

He mentioned one of the phones had never been rooted, so I doubt it was an overclock issue. Still, cant rule anything out at this point.
She used the same charger for the two HTC phones. But a brand new one with nexus. She has had many different car chargers over this time period. Always loses them ...don't ask me how lol. But unless she's neglected to tell me something, no other outside variables have changed that I can think of.
And as far as software, it would be only non root apps. All three phones were never over clocked. And only thunderbolt rooted.

Oh and I wanna note that the thunderbolt was on the original battery during the problems and I changed it to an aftermarket one and the problem remained.

gps is used very rarely and camera is only maybe 5-10 pics a day at most. The only apps she uses in large amounts everyday are facebook and the stock browser.
I stopped figuring out what my sister does whit the phones I buy for her honestly ladies and smartphone doesn't just go along very well... neither does ladies and driving (pun intended)
And my sister has the same issue whit 4 phones I bought for her so if you find a fix lmk ! My thoughts are that they open a lot of apps whitout killing them so the ram decreases and thus leads to freezing?

Haha! I feel like you could be right. On both phone and driving lol. I guess to give me something to experiment with, does anyone have any recommendations for a task killer app that can kill any app automatically after you leave the app? Like say one minute after you close any app it will be completely closed so its not using ram anymore.
My Girlfriend had the same problem, I figured out, by finally opening one of the phones after buying a new one.
That they were all water damaged, they weren't red though, only pink. So it indicated that the phone had been in a humid area. Not underwater.
So I asked her, it seemed she brought her phones to the bathroom. (I do too) But her showers were so long, that the room gets humid and mist comes into the phone, making it "sweat" a little.
So ask her, does she take the phone into the bathroom or kitchen? Could be it.
P.S: Now shes got an Xperia GO. No problems sofar.
My experience with random freezes are mostly when the phone is doing background syncing.
I Think some app's might update (or maybe she installed new apps) and one of them is crashing the system.

she does in fact take it into the room when showering. I do as well, but I always put it under a towel or something of the such. so this is most definitely a possibility. what do i check to see if there is water damage? I don't have her Thunderbolt anymore but i have the Inc and obviously shes still using the Nexus. So i could check those.
The one thing that i didnt note that i forgot i did, was that i rooted and rommed the Inc just for the heck of it about a two months ago to use it as an mp3 player. I didnt have any issues while playing music (and disconnected from data all the time obviously, and from wifi majority of the time)

yea that has always been a concern of mine, if its some app that she has downloaded on each phone, that is doing this.
I wish i could have foreseen this coming so i could have noted all the apps on the phone prior to wiping/getting rid of phone. But she's no help when i try to ask what apps she always makes a point of downloading.

Well, open the phone, take out battery, and there should be either a White, Pink or Red sticker on there, next to the brown charging things. Else theres some inside the phone.
Red: Heavy water damage (Swim)
Pink: Misty, humid water damage.
White: Normal.
Heres some pictures from my Arc, which had small incident in a cup of tea water.

I'll be sure to look once she gets home tonight.
And FYI a method I found that worked great when my sister dropped her phone in a toilet was, get battery out and put in a bag with a lot of rice. Sucked the moisture right out.
Thanks for the response. And thank you everyone so far for your responses. I hope I get this figured out. I'll post back again once I've gotten my hands on her phone.

Why or how do people drop their phone in the toilet? I Just can't understand how they manage to do that. It's not like you are going to answer phone call's while doing your business on the toilet. Maybe they are writing text messages... But still, I just can't see why people can't wait a few minutes until their done.
or maybe she just didn't like the phones you gave her..

I received the replacement phone 5 and 1/2 hours ago. Charged the battery and rooted it and flashed CWM recovery. Performed a backup and thought all was well. About 2 hours ago I experienced a black screen freeze and had to pull the battery. I than performed a factory reset to perhaps help this and also to restore the UI sounds. Did not restore the sounds and got a black screen freeze while on the charger. I also noticed that the phone was very hot while on charger. Than I noticed I was not receiving phone calls as all of a sudden a notification popped up relating that I had 2 voice mail messages. The phone never rang. I performed 3 more factory resets and all had no effect whatsoever. I also noticed that I had no signal fluctuating with 4g 3 bars. I than called Customer rentention and related to them what had gone on in just 5 and a half hours. While they were ordering another replacment for me I became aware that the screen was black again and power button would do nothing. I could continue the call and did but had to pull the battery to hang up. I really do like this phone and not trying to denigrate it, but if the next one has any issues I am going to just ask for refund and wait for SGSII. I know from the threads that other people have had these issues however it is amazing to me that the replacement could have so many of the issues. Also when opening the box and removing the phone from it there was no plastic wrapper on it like there was on the first one. Could TM be sending out refurbs already? I would imagine not it makes me wonder. Anyone else experience anything like this?
Man that sucks. This is why I never purchase new phones on the internet. If you purchase in a store you can just do exchanges there or any other corporate store. I bet theres a lot of people that won't order phones online anymore after this release.

Yeah. I have been with Tmobile for over 13 years and overall they have been very good to me. I was really not due for an upgrade but they gave me one so I could not turn it down I am just so disappointed that the second device had more issues than the first one. I also forgot to mention that the second one had bad lcd screen bleeding. This phone has so much potential and I really do want to keep it.
try to hang in there. I'd say mine has been perfect but don't wanna jinx myself. ordered it from t-mo 30 minutes after its online release and have not experienced a single problem. screen is perfect too...lovin it! be sure to mention to them that it seemed as though your replacement had already been handled. maybe they'll be more inclined to be sure your next one is brand new. good luck!

I am assuming you placed the order through Customer Care.
Did your replacement come in original packaging or was it JUST the phone (no battery, back cover), as that's the easiest way to find out if you're carrying a refurb or not.
(THIS DOES NOT MEAN EVERY PHONE THAT COMES LIKE THAT IS A REFURB)
IF the phone came IN original packaging, it is not a refurb. They do not repackage.
Before the G2x, I started with a Cliq 2 a month ago. The screen went bad, so they shipped me another, and the hinge for the slide out keyboard was bad.
Did I mention this was an online order?
After being without a phone for a week, the G2x arrived, and now I'm out of the 30 day window for exchanges! So yeah, I'll never buy another "new" cell online.
I order my phone on the phone through their customer care or retention, can't remember. Anyway I have some bleed on my lcd but I am finding it hard to send it back because I am not sure if what I get in return will be fixed. Also they said I had to send mine out FIRST and its about a 2 week process... So I might just deal with the bleed and call it a day.
Lesson I learned: IN STORE ONLY
wait until after the return time. You can do a warranty exchange and they send out the phone to you before you send back yours. You also do not need to keep the warranty phone if you do not want to. My phone has some LCD bleeding but no other issues. So i am going to do a warranty replacement and if that one is worst just send that one back instead. As a T-Mobile employee i do not get refunds just exchanges. So i will do an exchange as much as needed until i get a 100% working phone. Now if only they could fix the battery.
I ordered mine online and it had a bleeding backlight on one corner enough that it was noticeable while playing games and normal activities.
I just went to the store and picked one up that checked out before I left. Plus in-store purchases have a 14 day return policy I can just take it back and swap it out for another new one they have in stock.
I will never order another phone online. Not that this always happens but anyone on XDA probably has some kind of phone obsession and something like that is always best to actually go look at it before slapping down some cash.
I have the original one on my desk that is getting shipped out asap. The one from the store is amazing. No blacklight bleeding, freezes, or weird quirks. Plus, like you said, it didn't even look right out of the box. You don't know what they are sending you in return and why spend full price on a refurb/used model?

Did you come from a Nexus One by chance? I only had mine for 8 months and they still gave me the full discounted rate. They said it was some type of "glitch" in the system but they wouldn't change it back.
Yeah, I'm worried about my next replacement order that's being shipped out to me. The lovely folks at T-Mobile sent me a G2 instead. The customer rep said "well if the next one has a problem you can get a different phone." Can I just have a G2x without issues? :/
Is anyone else's collecting dust under the screen already? I've been unlucky with reboots as well, but I'm sure that's just a software issue. The way my luck's been going, I'm sure this next one will have even worse screen bleeding, if that were possible since the top 2 corners are pretty bad and the bottom always gives off a yellow hue overall.

Actually I did have a nexus one but I bought that off of contract. I did an upgrade with a Vibrant last july and than this device now. I do hope my repacement (#3) is issue free. Yes TMobile has been very good to me.
I had a black screen this morning. Pulled the battery and rebooted only to realize that it had froze before my alarm went off and was over an hour late for work. I am a personal trainer, so my clients were pretty upset with me. Anyway when I got home from work I got out of my car and the phone fell out of my pocket and had about a 1 and a half foot fall to the ground. I thought to myself, DAMN!! First Drop, only to find that the screen is cracked in about 15 places.
So for those of you who do not have a case of some sort yet I suggest you get one.

The benefit of Gorilla glass is that they are harder than normal glass so they resist scratches better but unfortunate side effect of being harder is that they can shatter easily when dropped. Be careful and get a case as poster stated

Well as promised here are the pictures. Just so everyone knows I called Tmobile and raised hell and they are sending me a new phone and I have already ordered a few cases. I knew I should have gotten one, but when I got the phone the Tmobile store only had one and it was way too expensive and I really did not care for the style of it. So remember this is all from about a foot and a half drop.

Foot and a half drop onto what? A bed of nails? I have dropped mine several times from that height (maybe more) onto a hardwood floor. No scratches or cracks.
OP, make sure you're using your computer to charge the phone. If i charge mine via wall it freezes like that all day long.

This is nice considering the HTC ONE is not repairable. This makes me want to get the S4 for this simple fact.
I don't think that the micro USB port is easily replaceable like they say though. All those little pins are soldered to the motherboard on the gs3. I doubt that they just plug in in the s4. It takes a steady hand and a good mini soldering set to do that

The point is that the whole USB connector board is extremely simple and thus probably very cheap to replace, nobody's talking about desoldering the connector itself.

Well I think the reason it matters, say for me for example, is because I want to know I can fix it if its breaks especially if I am investing 800 dollars.
Say the S3 for example. Screen cracked. Cost me less then 200 to fix. Had that happen to a HTC ONE, where its not replaceable, and I don't have insurance, I am out 800 dollars.
So yes, there is a huge importance on whether or not its easy to fix if it breaks. We're not talking about 100, 200, or even 400 dollars phones. These phones are much fragile and more expensive then ever before.

Said the man with the unrepairable phone.
Repairibility is kind of important in a couple of ways. A difficult to repair device is as bad for the manufacturer as it is for the consumer. If what would normally be nominal warranty repairs end up requiring device replacement the manufacturer is going to look to offload those costs to consumers either through increased claims of "customer induced damage" or classifying defects as cosmetic which aren't covered under warranty. And manufacturers that void warranties for unlocking bootloaders have already demonstrated their view on absorbing warranty repair costs.
Replacing a back cover on a Galaxy device is $20 and a new polycarbonate casing for a One X is $125 installed. Display replacements for both are $150-200. Both can also be done by customers themselves to save money if they have the skills. What the impact of low repairibility really is won't be known for a couple of months when people start posting both their warranty experiences and costs compared to other devices for typical repairs. Look at it this way, if repairibility didn't matter manufacturers wouldn't invest as much as they do to achieve high degrees of it.

I agree. And it will day someday and the performance will also decline constantly.
That is the main reason for buying a phone with replaceable battery. In a couple of years when I may want to sell my phone, who will buy it when the battery will be dramatically reduced after within the first year they bought it? At least LG tried to remedy this with their 800-cycle battery that should live 50% longer than ordinary Li-Poly. But there is NO indication that the HTC One uses this kind of battery It is a deal breaker for me and one of the main reasons I choose SGS4.

Link to HTC rebutting iFixit's review and providing the proper instructions for opening the phone without damaging it? They test dozens of devices a year. Give them some credit for being able to figure out how to open them. And HTC's had no problem using Twitter as a megaphone so I'd think if they were slandered by a "1" reparability rating that wasn't accurate they'd have said something in their defense.
And your two year warranty and even insurance doesn't cover cosmetic damage. What if it's dropped and deforms which even a TPU case wouldn't protect it from and you want/need to replace the casing? Frail device + low reparability = not good. The One's a gorgeous phone and a lot of people will be drawn to it for that reason. But you can't tout its best feature without also discussing the potential down sides. The real test isn’t our discussion about what “might” happen; it’s the experience of owners over the next couple of months. If there’s some secret button on the outside of the phone that you press to have it pop apart that iFixit missed I’ll be the first to humbly apologize. Same thing if drops don't create the deformation Android Authority experienced.
This was from 4' in Android Authority's drop test...
Funnily enough, there is a 'secret button' to unlock the One.
As someone pointed out in the One forums, the phone would be heated to a certain temperature, where the bonds would essentially fall apart and the phone could be repaired. It's also fairly obvious that way to dismantle the one is via the speaker grills.

For that to be true, one of the following had to happen:
1) After taking the device completely apart iFixit realized that removing the glued-on speaker grills was the correct way to dismantle the device and, rather than admitting their original approach was wrong, published a story that was factually inaccurate and to a degree slandering HTC's 2013 flagship.
2) No matter which way you approach it, there's no good way to disassemble a One resulting in the replacement of components unrelated to whatever's necessitating the repair.
I guess time will tell which of the two is correct.
And this has nothing to do with how iFixit actually accessed the guts of the phone.
Nine steps after prying the display assembly up from the case, we finally get a look at it on its own. Just like we saw earlier with the battery, this component can't be replaced without removing everything from the rear case…and then first taking out the motherboard.
Here's what it comes down to. HTC's development goal for the One was design. Anything packaging related was compromised to achieve it including moving the power button from the more logical right side to the left. So, to achieve their design goal, everything was crammed in to the device in whatever way was necessary to support a unique antenna structure because of the aluminum, meet dimensional and weight targets, and deliver a beautiful device. So kudos to HTC for pulling it off. But that doesn't absolve them of the impact to reparability their approach caused. And like you said in your first post how much it matters is still a question.

I can understand replaceable screens, but I have spent €330 replacing my girlfriend's S3 screen twice. I could get a decent second hand S3 for that.
@Barry I somehow manage to sleep at night, even in the knowledge that ifixit couldn't even figure where to start when tearing down the One

I didn't have warranty on my s3 when the screen broke. Not everyone has the option to get warranty, especially accidental.
So yes, it is extremely important to know how easy it is to fix a device when you don't have warranty. Especially if your like me that pays full price. I don't like contracts.
It's like my laptop. I have a gaming laptop that I bought 3 years ago. Video card died. It had a 5870m ATI. I could, 1, buy a new gaming laptop for 2k. Or 2, buy a newer video card, spend 500 bucks on a 7970m, mod the cooling, and walla. Fixed, plus I get another 5 years out of it because of the awesome video card (6 times the performance). Warranty was only good for 2 years. This laptop is one of the few that is OMG SO SIMPLE to repair. Modding the cooling for the new video card was a task that took 6 hours. Got my money worth.

I'm talking about warranty, not insurance. Warranty will never cover you breaking your screen.
You're right though, if you plan on owning something past the warranty period, then repairability might be important to you.
Over the last 6 or so years, I have had 7 HTC's and 3 Samsung's. I have never had to pay for a repair (unless you count 2 repairs for the screen of my girlfriend's S3), and my HTC Hero had a defect, so was replaced next day by my mobile provider.

Received my OnePlus One yesterday and I have to say I am completely head over heels in love with it.
But..... I'm OCD when it comes to my electronics and of course mine had to come with the nasty yellow banding at the bottom.
I'm thinking I might have gotten a customer's return which is weird because it was completely sealed, I had to open it by pulling the threaded tab just like in all the unboxing videos. When I went into gallery, there were about 100+ personal pictures of some random dude and his family, a bunch of downloaded crap, ringtones, other 3rd party browsers, Amazon apps, ect. Hell I even got some full length movies on there, Transformers and a bootleg cam'd version of Edge of Tomorrow.
My guess is that OnePlus is putting customers returns into new packages and sending them out without even fully wiping them correctly. My unit looked like it was never touched, all the screen sticker ect. wow...just wow.
Anyways back to the yellow band, so I followed the advice of people all over the forums to use UV light to try and fix the issue. Well, good thing my mother in law owns a nail salon, I asked if I could take one home for a night. Took it out to the garage and went to work...
On the positive side it actually does help....a little. From a scale of 1-10, 10 being very yellow at the bottom and 1 being completely white at the top, under the UV light for 10 minutes, the yellow was reduced to I'd say a 7.
Bad news is that it doesn't improve any further after that, I put it in there for another 10 minutes and it didn't make a difference. Went crazy and left it in there for 45 minutes, still no improvement. Don't know if the UV damaged my digitizer but touch sensitivity seems to be degraded. Doesn't register my touches as nicely as before...
So there you have it, I left it in a professional nail salon UV machine for about an hour, way more than the recommended 15 minutes, it improved it a little bit but seemed to have messed with the touch sensitivity of the device.
Use UV at your own risk, I tried it and it helped but didn't fix it completely. I love the device too much so I'll be ordering another one when I get a chance.

Another thing during work today I was experimenting with it and noticed if you apply light heat from a heat gun (lowest setting) the yellow COMPLETELY disappears. Unfortunately when it starts cooling down the yellow comes back.

I left my OnePlus in the sun on the first morning after I got it. I put it in the morning sun while I got ready for work and made breakfast. On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being beyond unacceptable the phone started as a "5". I could definitely see it but it was clearly a "I'd be the only one to notice" amount of yellow. After about 1 hour of direct morning sun on a 75 degree morning it's a "1" now. Just a slightest of slight hints of yellow that may be the warm calibration of the phone.
That's my experience with the whole mess.

That's insane man, though not very surprising of OnePlus at this point. I guess paying $360 for a device of this caliber will numb any indignation. Did you buy it directly from OnePlus using an invite? What is the supposed build date of your phone? Where did it ship to you from? Everything seemed perfectly new when I got mine, the only thing that I thought was odd was the lack of any documentation, you know like a user guide, warranty, warnings etc. Did you get any?
As far as the yellowing goes, I feel that it is slowly fading away, and I haven't even exposed it to any California sunshine or heat, I've mostly used it in air conditioned areas.
I got mine without any defects, but I don't think keeping it under UV light for an hour would do good to any phone.
Why not root it and tweak RGB values with trickster to at least make it unnoticeable?
People bashing everyone but themselves as always.

There is no need to use mods to adjust the RGB values on this device. You can do it with the stock ROM.

You can only control Hue, Saturation, Contrast, Intensity with the stock ROM. You cannot adjust RGB values, you'll need a custom kernel with this commit in order to adjust the RGB and I'm sure later down the line, there'll be gamma controls similar to the N5 on the OPO
I don't understand this yellow band madness.
If it will really go away just by exposing the phone to sunlight, well, just use the phone normally and it will go away soon or later.

Yes I ordered it directly from oneplus.net, I purchased the invite on eBay. Paid $100 for the invite... I know... but I just had zero patience and had to have it NOW! I felt like Veruca from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.
So all in total I paid about $469.xx, but even at that price if seems like a steal. Paid almost $700 for my GS5 which feels like junk compared to this bad boy.
It's too bad about the hardcore yellow band at the bottom of mine, I think I found the perfect phone. The battery life on this thing is R-E-D-I-C-U-L-O-U-S! I swear it doesn't want to die.
That sucks it was a used one. To make it worse I would be livid paying over retail for it too and having a yellow band.

Yeah at first I was going to return it but after hearing people had to pay $50+ to ship it back to China and no guarantees of getting back a perfect device, I decided against it.
I'm hoping my case is just an isolated incident, imagine the outrage if OnePlus was really putting customer's returns back in new sealed boxes and sending them out in order to meet demand?

They need to do a lot to gain respect. They are lucky people settle with the yellow screens. How can you say it's suppose to be like that? They can control the situation now and censor, deny rma, because of the invite system.
Imagine if the phone was released publicly. Stores would stop buying them because of returns and they would have a lot more people complaining than on the forums about a yellow screen.

No documentation, just phone, charger cable and sim card keychain in the box. Box was completely sealed with plastic outside, does not looked tampered with at all.

I got a new Z3, but after checking it's flaps and dunking it in water (as a demo to a friend who owns an iPhone!) it developed major issues such as the vibrator that didn't stop buzzing even when the phone was off, the phone at first wouldn't switch off and the gyroscope stopped working - after checking the water sensor I saw one had been triggered so the phone was leaking water at the flap.
It was exchanged for me as it was a week old.
Then the second phone wouldn't charge on the magnetic port so I called my phone company, as I was just out of the initial two week period they did not want to exchange it again and so the phone had to be sent to Sony.
8 days of forced technology detox later I got a new phone, because the phone was too new so they didn't have spare parts yet to fix it at SBE, which are Sony's official contractors.
I followed my repair through the website regularly and at one point it said fault: "no Bluetooth module" which isn't even the fault I sent it in for!
I've tried logging in, but I've received a new phone a week ago now so I can't log into my repair anymore and the documents don't list the fault, it only says 'replaced phone with reconditioned phone'.
Oh and now my new phone has no noticeable gap that is mentioned here, but it has ugly light bleed at the bottom left hand corner.
My Z1 also had to be sent in twice to Sony, once for a back that cracked spontaneously on a desk and once because the rubber flap covering the ports wore out after just 6 months and the door couldn't stay closed...
So it annoys me deeply when reviewers talk about Sony's amazing build quality. They use premium materials yes, but sadly the build quality is not premium.

Now does anyone of us here know how the official cover window of thebZ3 works? I suppose it works with the magnetic sensors just like in other phones (eg. S5, NEXUS 7 2013, and even the Tablet Z). Maybe someone of us here is able to point out of if this sensor has magnetic sensor or not.

I don't think this means that they initially had forgotten the Bluetooth.
Other than that: sorry to hear that you're having bad luck with your phones. There's hundred of millions of satisfied Sony customers, and some ten thousand unlucky and unhappy ones. I'm not affiliated with Sony, I just don't like generalizations.
The sad fact is that I'm a total, smitten Sony fanboy. I have always had Sony MP3 and minidisc players , since 2002 actually, when the iPod was just a baby, Sony cameras snd Sony TV's.
Back in the day it was because I preferred the SQ or the picture quality to what Apple or other manufacturers offered.
Now it's just because I love the brand, UI and and in all honesty the main draw for me is the Walkman app and Sony's EQ settings, which in my opinion are streets ahead of any other phone's. You can actually crank up the bass to 10 with zero distortion, if you should choose to.
So Sony has me by the short and curlies and that is why I feel that I speak with a sort of authority, from hard earned experience.
There are countless build issues with their phones. From backs that crack, to screens that crack - both spontaneously, the latter was picked up by the BBC's Watchdog programme, after many customers were angry at Sony 's denial of the problem.
We have misaligned screens, units that aren't waterproofed, flap doors that mysteriously disappear, speaker grilles that fall off (Z1) and unsightly light bleed among scores of issues being mentioned in these forums.
We have come a long way since Sony meant 'Made in Japan' a decade or two ago. It contrasted sharply with the 'Made in China' stamp that almost always denoted an inferior quality.
Times and technology have moved on and nowadays everything is made in China... and it shows.
So I'm not generalising when I'm saying that the build quality of the Z3 is not as premium as it should be. I've had countless problems and these forums tell the stories of many, many others.
It is just my opinion, but I don't feel that I'm generalising. I'm merely taking into account all the issues that I have had, other people are having and comparing that to the price and materials of the phone and then arriving at a situation where in too many cases, they just don't match up...

My Z3 is perfect in every way. No bleed, magic self-cracking glass, things falling off, whatever. You can pick a few examples from people posting here how have problems, or have read other people complaining, but it's more or less meaningless; this time next year there'll be 20,000,000 or whatever xperia z3s sold, and a few thousand with problems, just like every other mass produced product. We've just had a week of crap about baidu spyware from people who don't know what the **** they're talking about. Everyone's an expert these days, aren't they? "Made in Japan" used to mean "piece of crap", then they improved. Sure, most crap is made in china, but they're improving too - not everything made there is crap. After them it'll be somewhere else.
If you want a Z3, buy a Z3. You won't be disappointed. And if you manage to explain how glass just breaks by itself when it's close to a Z3, there's probably a physics prize in it for you somewhere, because glass is rather a stable, well understood substance, and I can't imagine how you'd engineer this to happen even if you wanted to, never mind if you'd strengthened it with Gorilla glass.
No offence, but you are in denial. Have a look at these forums, some guys had to open 6 boxes in the store to find a Z3 without gaps and light bleed!! Have a look at the gap thread.
You were lucky with your phone.

None taken, because i'm confident the facts are on my side.
You're missing the point. I'm not lucky - they're unlucky. If 99.9% of Z3s manufactured were faulty, then I'd be lucky to get a working one. You'd be crazy to assume that high a percentage of them are faulty, though, and nothing I've read suggests this is the case.
Assuming "some guy on the internet" actually had to open 6 boxes, it just suggests a localised bad batch. Google for "confirmation bias". Sure, it's annoying if it happens to you, but statistically it won't.

Started noticing the other night that when I was on certain sites that I would get streaks down the screen. They moved with the text on the screen and it was worse with white backgrounds.
Now when my screen goes on or off, the edges flash green and in certain dark screens I can see green streaking down the panel. As a matter of fact when I use the fingerprint reader, the animation that spreads across the screen is now green tinted as well. It's definitely getting worse as time goes on even though earlier today I couldn't see any defects at all!
I have to say this is my first time having a problem with an OLED panel. Since I converted my Tello plan to eSIM, it's going to be a problem if I have to be without my phone for awhile. I guess I better order a Tello SIM card before I start the fight with support to get a replacement. It's been in a Spigen Tough Armor the whole time and the panel isn't cracked nor has it sustained any drops that should have damaged it but I've heard enough horror stories about Google support to know that my buying the phone at Best Buy may end with them refusing to repair it without a huge fight.
Very disappointing.
EDIT: Well at least Tello made the ordering process easy. $2 for the SIM, $5 for 2-3 day USPS shipping. Worst case scenario having it on pSIM I can just stick it in my OnePlus 9 for a bit.
EDIT2: That was way easier to get fixed that I was expecting. I had no issues with the Pixel repair support rep I chatted with and I called two uBreakiFix locations. The one closest to my house didn't have the screen in stock but could order it. The one less than 5 minutes further away had the screen and got it changed in about an hour. Very pleased!

Hmm that's unfortunate.
Has the screen's edge been hit by mistake?
That support fight will be a real joy lol. If you can't get Googs to do the right thing, just keep opening tickets. I'm sure you're aware, but it takes playing the competence lottery to get the right gatekeeper to support their hardware these days. I went through hell with this not that long ago. They're going to try and get you to use some random authorized repair center or send it to them. In both cases, in my area, that would've left me without a phone for over a week. Finally got the right person to replace my defective unit. Best of luck and sorry you have to go through the process. Not that there's many out there, but getting one of the rare lemon devices (user error aside) is always a bit frustrating, considering how expensive these things have gotten.

No. And the interesting thing is it seems to get worse when it's warm. I woke up this morning and the only symptom anything is wrong at all is the green flash but it's barely perceptible, you have to really be looking for it.
I restored the stock software last night since I was on the beta and wanted to make sure it wasn't software. The entire screen was basically pulsing when I fell asleep and all my apps were being restored from backup.

Yeah I'm not looking forward to the fight. I'm also going to have to find a way to reproduce the issue every time since it does appear to be intermittent. If it's caused by overheating like I think it is, that will be easier to get them to replace.
I had my screen replaced once already and it's acting up again. Part of me wonders if it's the onboard GPU as it really freaks out when I play Star Trek Timelines. Sometimes the screen goes dark and comes back if I hit the power button. Other times I've had it go all yellow or yellow and brown and I had to do the power+vol down to get it to reboot.
I like the phone, but I've never had such issues with any other phone I've owned in 25 years of owning a phone.
I'm about ready to RMA and ask for a new phone.

Yeah I have seen your screen/GPU woes.
The thing is, I don't play games on this thing, yet it's doing it anyway. The first time I noticed it was while it was charging and the device was warm so heat seems to be the likely culprit. My phone's temperature usually averages about 30C so it's not like I'm abusing the heck out of it...
I haven't filed a ticket with Google just yet. Would prefer to wait for my new SIM card to come in first.

Often when I plug my phone in to charge, you can see this "wave", for lack of a better term, go up the screen. Like some sort of electrical pulse. The screen gets snowy for a second but it's still readable. I was never sure if it just an animation that it does when it starts charging or if its a hardware issue. It charges fine. Have you experienced that?
I think both the Tensor and screens come from Samsung. Wonder if Samsung had some bad batches and threw them in Google's stuff, or if their QC just sucks.
It's not something I've seen in Samsung phones before - either SD or Exynos based.
I haven't updated to the latest update yet, so I'm not sure if that will help or not.

That is an intentional charging animation.
It certainly does seem like Google has more screen problems than other manufacturers. Just look at all the pink OGs, 2s, 3s, 4s, and 5s on Swappa...
If it were an ice car I would say 'it needs new oil, don't worry'

Ok, glad that's just an animation. It looks cool at least.
5a's had the black screen of death. Have there been other complaints about the screen elsewhere? I've seen a few others besides us having problems, but I haven't seen any mentions on other websites that I read.

I just remember all the pink screens I saw when I was trying to find a decent price on a used Pixel. There were far more pink and heavily burned in OLED panels on the Pixels than anything else. I know they used cheaper LG panels for the early models but still.
Here's video of my Pixel 7 Pro screen flicker.
It gets worse over time and eventually will go completely black after about 15 min of continuous use. The way around this is to let the screen 'rest' for about 15 min, then it acts (mostly) normal.
This has really put a damper on my Candy Crush flow...
I also get this action when charging if AoD is on.

I've got an RMA request in. They actually had me email this video to them so they decide if they're going to honor my claim.
Oof. I see another class action in Google's future...
My screen did start to flicker when it was setting itself back up after I used the Android Flash Tool and I figured it was going to go out completely if it kept going so I powered it off and went to bed. Got up this morning and it was fine until it warmed up again.
Well I chatted with them and they confirmed that it's a covered warranty repair and I just have to call UbreakiFix and set up an appointment.

I am glad you were able to get a fix covered under warranty! It really sucks when these things happen.
I hope everything goes smoothly and you don't have any more problems!

Just picked it up. Got some ramen, sushi, and a Kirin while waiting. Overall, very pleased. Took them less than an hour from drop off to repair.
Actually didn't even know there was a ramen place in this shopping center and it was the best I've had so I'll be coming back
That was quick! Glad it worked out.

I am starting to wonder if people having issues when not buying from Google are going to Google Store instead of Pixel repair. Dude didn't even ask where I bought it, just what country I bought it in, if I was still in that country, the IMEI, and pictures of the malfunction. It couldn't have been easier.

Yeah - they agreed to RMA my phone. I don't mind waiting a few days and sending it in. Maybe they can figure out what went wrong better if they have the phone.
