Exchange and client certificate - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm trying to connect my N8000 to my work's exchange-server. We use certificates to connect, and this works nicely on both iphones and on my Galaxy Nexus.
However, on the Note I'm getting as long to select my certificate, and when I press Next, it starts to look for the server, but almost immediately fails with "Unable to connect to server". If i deselect client side certificate, it responds with "Wrong username/password".
This seems to be a general problem though with Samsung devices, as it's the same on a Note 2 and a S3 I have here.
On the nexus I can make a nice log of it with *#*#36245#*#*, which tells me about what is going on, but this didn't work on the Note.
Any suggestions?
edit: I noticed that on the Nexus I can choose what port to connect to. This I can not do on the Note. Curious..

OTA Exchange Sync works for 4 hours - then certificate error?

Just picked up an Xperia X1A (WinMo 6.1) two days ago.
Setup OTA Exchange Activesync with my corporate mail (Exchange 2K7) and everything worked fine for the first 4 hours. Then I started getting Certificate errors (Invalid certificate on server, etc.).
I can understand getting this from the get-go, but after working for a few hours? I'm confused.
Other than Blackberries, I only know of other employees using AS on iPhones, and it works fine. We tend to discourage the use of non-BB devices, but have left the back door open for other device use.
Using OWA on my laptop via Internet Explorer is fine. I do get a certificate error when trying to login via Firefox.
Any help would be great! Thanks.......
Ok, just got it to work again, but had to delete the account and re-configure it on the X1a. Let's see if this happens again.
So after about 17 hours, the certificate error has popped up again. My IT department does not support the use of WinMo devices, but say they haven't done anything to block it.
Any next steps? Is there a way I can get this specific certificate on my device (without getting I/T involved)?
Thanks!

JH7 now on Kies..exchange mail no longer works

Yeaterday(IST), when I connected my Captivate to Kies I got notified of JH7 update.
My Captivate is unlocked, not rooted and was on stock firmware(jp6 I guess). Phone is on Airtel's network in India.
I grabbed the update using Kies and upgrade of phone completed successfully.
Before upgrade, my phone was configured for exhange email and I was getting my exchange email in phone without a problem.
After the upgrade, email client asked to setup a 6 digit numeric password. I tried to set it. But, for some reason phone doesn't detect the password as numeric. A bug?
What ever 6 digit number I try to set as password, i get an error saying that password needs to be numeric.
Crap!
I tried removing account and adding again, reboot of phone..etc nothing work.
Is there any work around fir this?
I read in engadget that Samsung added exchange security policy support in JH7 and it appears to be the reason its asking me to set password which is not working. looks like Sansung's QA team didn't do their job well.
By the way, I read reports of Tethering option removed from phone's USB settings. But, connect USB to laptop and set USB to 'KIES' mode. Use 'tethering' shortcut in Kies application. Tethering works!, atleast on Airtel in India.

I don't know how to fix your problem but try downloading Touchdown from the market and see if that works. Maybe it will get you by until you find a solution. Make sure you pick the one Exchange for Android 2.x.

The maintenance crashed and ate my post about JH7 firmware update from Kies enabled.

@keitht:thanks for your suggestion about touchdown. I am using Moxier Mail for now.

@C3000C: good to know that your exchange email works after upgrade. May be your exchange server doesn't enforce security policies?
My exchange server requires me to setup password for phone screen unlock.

Exchange still works fine
I have 2 exchange accts set up on my phone. Both work fine after JH7.
One change after JH7 - One of my accts requires a passwd on the phone. Before the upgrade, when I hit the text box, previouly I used to get the full keyboard. I would have to change to numeric to enter the passwd. After JH7, it defaults to numeric keyboard.

I read in another thread that the Samsung keyboard seems to be possibly typing in letters instead of numbers even though you can see the numbers being typed. Not sure if this is the same thing but maybe trying another keyboard, like the Android one instead of samsung or vice versa may yield different results? You can set this on phone settings > Locale and Text.
Solved
Earlier I was trying to set an easy numeric password(like 123456) and it was giving me an error to type 'numeric password'.
I later tried it using a bit complicated numeric password and it accepted the password.
So, the issue was that I was using a very easy numberic password and hence it was not accepting that password.
but, what an error message shown by email app!!
looks like Samsung ran out of error messages

Accept all SSL certificates missing

Hi All,
I seem to be missing the "Accept all SSL certificates" in the Exchange Active Sync setup on my Note 2 (GT-N8010, Android version 4.1.1 not rooted or modified at all yet)
Am I missing something or is this a Samsung firmware problem and does anyone have a solution as the exchange server I have to use does not have a trusted Root CA?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Sorry for the noise
There was nothing wrong with my note this was a silly mistake. There were problems with the office network and it was erroring for another reason. I was confused because the normal "Accept all ssl certificates" tick box was not there and assumed this was why it was failing to connect.
Turns out it asks if you are happy to accept the certificate after connecting using a dialog.
Sorry for the noise and a silly mistake. admins please delete this thread if appropriate. (couldn't see a way of doing that myself)
Please do not delete.
Even if i accept the certificate the mail app turns on saying that it ccannot connect.
where do the samsung people move the "aacept all certificates" tick

certificate problem, can't browse internet

Hi
I have a freshly rooted DroidX with cyanogenmod ROM. I am trying to use the phone for the first time (no cell contract, via wifi only). So, I have to create a gmail account.
I have entered my wifi info, and the phone indicates it's connected to the internet. Opening gmail and entering a username and password that was previously used gets me an error screen saying the gmail program cannot connect to the internet. When I open a browser and try to connect to a website, I get a message that the site has an invalid certificate. There appears to be no way to bypass this screen using the stock browser in cyanogenmod. A window pops up and says "Security Warning, There are problems with the security certificate for this site". I am given the choice of 'go back', 'view certificate' or 'continue'. If I choose 'view certificate', the screen says "this certificate isn't from a trusted authority'. The certificate is issued to 'smrtpxl.advertising.com'. I get this error no matter which site I try to visit Ebay, google.com, etc all show the same certificate as described above. One of the first things I intend to download after getting registered on gmail is the firefox browser....for now I'm stuck with the one that came with the aftermarket ROM.
I should also say the phone has no sd card. I bought it without the sd card because I will only run a few apps on it and it will never have a cellphone provider (will always be used via wifi). Is it possible the previous owner removed his sd card before shipping the phone to me, which has some data on it that I need to use the phone?
It appears I am missing some security certificates, but I have no idea what to do to begin using the phone.
HELP......................
TY.

Other info
I left out a little info in the original post.
First, I do see the websites in the browser initially, but within a few seconds, the warning message pops up and blocks most of the screen. Nothing I can do will make it go away.
I can also do a google search when typed in the google widget, but clicking on any of the links from the search results makes the dreaded error message pop up.
I sure hope there's something I can do to put this phone into service.

Does anyone manage to use "Link to Windows"/"Your Phone Companion" with Note 10?

Does anyone manage to use "Link to Windows"/"Your Phone Companion" with Note 10?
I got the Note 10 recently.
I'm trying to make it work with the "Your Phone" app on Windows 10, which is supposed to be really easy considering that "Link to Windows"/"Your Phone Companion" are preinstalled on the phone.
I managed to connect the phone to my Microsoft account (I see it at the portal). I also managed to get it listed in the "Your Phone" app on my laptop. The problem is, the app is blank. Basically, it's unable to fetch any information from the phone (Notifications/Messages/Photos/Apps). When I try to refresh, it always gets to the "We can't connect to ... Note 10. Make sure that your PC and phone are connected to the Internet." error. The app is for sure connected to the phone because "Open phone screen" works flawlessly, but nothing else does.
The phone itself shows the "Connected to your PC" notification and also shows that it's connected to my laptop in Settings -> Advanced features -> Link to Windows.
Things I checked so far:
1. The Windows "Your Phone" app is latest version.
2. The "Link to Windows"/"Your Phone Companion" are both latest version from the Galaxy Store.
3. I also tried the version of "Your Phone Companion" from Play Store (it's newer) - same result.
4. All required permissions are granted to the "Your Phone Companion" app on the phone.
5. Both laptop and phone are connected to the same WiFi (no AP isolation on the router).
6. Also tried allowing mobile data and disconnecting the phone from WiFi - same result.
7. The phone is for sure connected to the PC over bluetooth.
8. Windows 10 is latest (2004 build 19041.508).
9. Phone is also latest (N970FXXU6DTH7/N970FOXM6DTH7).
It's really frustrating, and any help will the highly appreciated.
P.S. To anyone asking why I would want to use this service - I want a way to minimize distractions from my phone during work. Basically, this way, I will be able to see (and ignore) all the notifications from the phone on my laptop + answer/ignore calls via the headset that's always connected to the laptop without ever looking at my phone.
Things I can see interfering:
1. On the laptop I have 2 Microsoft accounts (work and personal). Although, both the app on the laptop and on the phone show my personal account in the Settings.
2. Missing drivers on the laptop. Although, Windows Update doesn't find anything and when the phone is connecting to the laptop via bluetooth is seem to be set-up properly.
Hello.
Today "your phone" app was updated with windows store..
So this new update bring ability also use the phone apps on windows desktop. Magnificent news
However before update things was perfectly working for me.
today, after the update,
I couldnt manage to connect.
I tried to change wifi , reset modem, change dns, turn of firewall, change different msn account.
Remove your phone app from windows and install again with powershell,
Clear data and chache of android app, giving full permissions + allowing notification reach access
Nothing worked for me.
The last step which the app says
"We will send notification.to your phone , press allow etc.."
Waits forever..
That notification never comes phone and process never completes.
So i feel it is from ms servers.

Thanks @m_carleone82, @Hansoliv, so at least I know I'm not alone with that issue.
I used to have the same problem, I believe it has something to do with debloated apps from adb, even after re-enabling them didn't help. Flashing the firmware was my option and now everything is working.
OK, so had some time on my hands today and eventually I fixed it.
I had to enable two things that are not mentioned anywhere in the Microsoft FAQs:
1. Enable "Share across devices". Enabling only "Nearby sharing" is not sufficient.
Settings -> System -> Shared experiences -> Share across devices
2. Allow "Microsoft apps can sign me in" for my secondary (personal) Microsoft account.
It's the default if you have only one account, but if you add another you can select "Apps need to ask me to use this account", which I did, because I don't want to mix personal stuff in the work laptop. But apparently "Your Phone" never asks...
Settings -> Accounts -> Email and accounts
Now everything works.
Works for me when I configured the first time, then never got connected again
Please disable battery save mode to use this app...
