OTA Exchange Sync works for 4 hours - then certificate error? - General Topics

Just picked up an Xperia X1A (WinMo 6.1) two days ago.
Setup OTA Exchange Activesync with my corporate mail (Exchange 2K7) and everything worked fine for the first 4 hours. Then I started getting Certificate errors (Invalid certificate on server, etc.).
I can understand getting this from the get-go, but after working for a few hours? I'm confused.
Other than Blackberries, I only know of other employees using AS on iPhones, and it works fine. We tend to discourage the use of non-BB devices, but have left the back door open for other device use.
Using OWA on my laptop via Internet Explorer is fine. I do get a certificate error when trying to login via Firefox.
Any help would be great! Thanks.......

Ok, just got it to work again, but had to delete the account and re-configure it on the X1a. Let's see if this happens again.

So after about 17 hours, the certificate error has popped up again. My IT department does not support the use of WinMo devices, but say they haven't done anything to block it.
Any next steps? Is there a way I can get this specific certificate on my device (without getting I/T involved)?
Thanks!

Direct Push Problem?

Hi, before I get into my problem let me tell you what I have done so far. I used the great tutorial on here for flashing to WM6. I installed the 2 cabs ran them use shell tool and flashed to Crossbow 1.7 Final. Performed a hard reset. Everything is great! Now I have SunCom and never put on a radio rom etc or anything like this. I setup my GPRS works great. Email works great everything again works great. If I try to goto my comm manager and enable direct push though I get no options it's greyed out. Also I screwed up last night and disabled my Data in comm manager. Couldn't figure out how to turn it back on ended up doing a hard reset . Anyway all these posts are so helpful but I could not find one related to my problem. I am thinking it is because I didn't put a radio rom on I'm not sure that's why i'm turning to you guys. Also the phone is a G4 is this help?
Thanks in advance.
you'll need to configure a server in activesync first. and for that you need to have an ccount with a provider that runs exchange server 2003 sp2. if you choose "as items arrive" as your sync frequency, you have direct push mail.
Ahh thank you. I thought (And could definatly be wrong!) That on WM5 I could select it with just a pop3 account. Am I mistaking? Thanks for the quick reply as well.
nope, you need to have some sort of push email service subscription.. either through work (exchange server, etc.) or something like blackberry connect, 7, etc.
Thanks for the information. I guess I need to do some research into the blackberry app if it works for our phone. Was sure I saw the program on the FTP here. I'm sure I will need to subscribe for there services though. Unfortunatly the company I work for isn't that big and I don't have to resources to build a server just for exchange. Not to mention how big of a pain it would be to set everyone up as well, and downtime I shutter thinking about it .
mail2web offer a push service. it works well too. i used it for a while till i got my office server configured for the job.
But there still is an issue with direct push, at least for me. Before I flashed to WM6 my email would arrive on my 8125 before or at the same time as they would come to my inbox on my PC. After installing Crossbow WM6 the email comes as much as 10 minutes after it hits my inbox on the PC.
seems like you are just synching your phone every 15 mins or so. Do you have exchange server with direct push?

As I have stated before going to WM6 direct push would receive the emails few seconds before my PC did, and yes I have it enabled right now and I have selected to receive items as they arrive.

Emails disappearing from exchange inbox and calendar not syncing help please

Hi all, I'm fairly experienced with the WM world (been using since WM2002) and am usually able to fix plenty of people's problems (on here and in the real world). I have run into an issue that I haven't quite been able to figure out. If it were my phone, I'd probably reflash a different rom on it (or even same one) and try it again fresh, but since it is not my phone I haven't tried it yet. Anyways, here is the issue.
My coworker has configured his phone running his provider's stock WM6.1 standard rom. He (well me, he had no idea it was possible until I showed him) is trying to connect his phone to the company's exchange server to get email on the phone. I have configured this (or instructed how to do this) for over 25 people where I work, and the only issues that I have ever run into were certificate issues. I manually pulled down the root certificate, made a cab file containing it, and installed it on his phone. This is easily verified by accessing the company's OWA site from Pocket IE. Without the certificate installed, a certificate warning appears, and with it you access without a problem (which I can do). So certificate, checked.
Now after a soft reset, it comes time to configure it. I get the email address, password, and domain in without a problem. Then the OWA address is put into the server address. Then the specific mail and calendar items are configured (such as retain last 3 days of mail, download 50KB of each message, show last 2 weeks of calendar, etc.), and finish is hit. The device successfully syncs, with no errors appearing on the screen. I even see items come down in activesync (such as syncing 82 contacts, 5 calendar events, and some emails).
I opened pocket outlook, and his inbox is empty. Odd, so I send him a test email from my AT&T Tilt (cooked WM 6.1 rom), and it arrives to his device on the next send/receive. Then, I hit send receive again on his phone and the test email disappears. I have tried changing the "retain" option for email from last 3 days to last 2 weeks, and no difference. Also the Calendar is empty. I sent him a meeting request and he accepted it, but it isn't on his mobile phone's calendar (but it is on the exchange calendar).
The only thing that I could think of is a rule to move everything to his personal folder on his laptop, but he says that he doesn't have one and moves everything over by hand. I'm thinking about swinging by his desk and confirming, but he isn't dumb and I'm sure he isn't lying about it.
I have been searching google (here and full internet google) without much luck. Thanks for any ideas to try, or else I'm gonna go soft reset his phone
Jason
Well he did tell me when he closed outlook on his work PC, everything started working right. I might try to swing by and look at his outlook afterall.
Jason
btw, if your poutlook syncs only new mails, and your server is configured to not keep messages on the server, the message might be deleted every other send/receive.

G2x Email app doesn't work with Exchange?

I was glad to receive the phone and after popping sim from N1 the first thing I did was trying to connect to my work exchange email and no luck whatsoever. After hanging in "Checking incoming server settings..." I get error message Setup could not finish, Unable to open connection to server.
Anyone have this issue?
Looks like this issue with early builds of 2.2 and LG probably used old Email app build... damn you LG!
Found some discussion on this topic:
h t t p: / /androidforums.com/motorola-droid/17657-exchange-account-setup-question.html
Mine connects to exchange perfectly.
Did you have exchange configured on your last phone and it worked?
Mine worked too. I also use Enhanced E-Mail which allowed my to avoid the "sent from my T-Mobile..." problem others using the stock app have complained about.
i had that problem too. i didnt select Exchange (icon with microsoft logo) i just said other or something and then the second screen instead of pop3 or imap i clicked exchange at that point.
I had the same issues, pulled an email.apk from a MT3G nightly I still have and swapped it out, works just fine now.

[Q] Email MS Exchange

Anyone able to use the stock email app without any problems? I can't access my work email with the stock app. I downloaded touchdown and it works without any problems, currently using the trial, $20 not worth it IMO.
No, i have no issues with Exchange using the stock app. I connect to Exchange 2003 so I can't speak for newer versions of Exchange. Do you get any error messages?
I get a cannot connect to server message. It's not a connection issue though, if I type my password wrong, I'll get a incorrect password message.

Hmm, so you have the correct domain\username, correct mail server, checked ssl settings, and you get the same message? The problem could be on the server end. Can other android users connect to your company's exchange?
Also, if Touchdown is too pricey, you can try Enhanced Email, i've used it before and it works really well. The only downside is that it's not great with your battery.
Yes other android users are able to connect. I'm also able to connect on my girlfriends Mytouch 4G.
Are you running a ROM? If not, the only thing i can think of that might work is doing a factory reset. I had a problem connecting once but it was due to a bad flash. Did you already clear cache and data from the stock email app?
Some ROMs
Some ROMs have a working email client for my corporate email, some don't. I ahd not luck with Weapon g2x, but Trigger worked, for example. Also the nighlies I used (up to 104) worked, but miui doesn't seem to work.
My advice is try ROMs until you find one that works and report the bug onthe forums if you notice problems.
So far I've tried:
Stock 2.2
Stock 2.3
Weapon G2x
Latest CM7 nightly 119
All have the same problem. Could this be a hardware problem? It's weird, why does touchdown work without any problems?
Miui
I am using the latest Miui and it seems to work with exchange. OTOH, I was able to get several of the nightlies to work with my exchange server too.
LG G2X Corporate Email (Microsoft Exchange) Connection Problem
My phone is a T-Mobile LG G2x (LGP999) running Android 2.3.3 (latest version is updated); using Microsoft Outlook 2007 (not sure what version of Microsoft Exchange is being used)
When I try to setup a corporate email (Microsoft Exchange) on my LG G2x (P999), I am receiving an error message that states: "This server requires security features your phone does not support". The steps are as follows:
1.) Go to the Email application from the main menu.
2.) Select MS Exchange.
3.) Set up email: Type your full email address and password.
4.) Server Settings: Type Domain\Username; Password; Server; Select check boxes “Use secure connection (SSL)” and optional “Accept all SSL certificates” when first box is selected.
5.) Account Options: Select how often you want your mail to arrive and your notification preference.
6.) Type a name for your account.
I am getting hung up on step #4 (Server Settings). I am 100% certain my domain\username and server address are correct but when I click “Next” to proceed to the next step I get the message "This server requires security features your phone does not support".
For a test, my colleague entered his information on steps 1-4 into my phone and proceeded to step 5 immediately (Account Options). This problem happened to one other individual and he had to purchase a new phone to correct the problem (a Samsung). The problem seems to be around the phone or mail-server but I am out of options. Is there some setting to get it to work?
Another test I performed, I successfully logged onto my friends phone with my account settings and managed to pull up my calendar / email. He was using a Motorolla phone that used Android 2.2 (an older version than I am using).
Other Notes:
A.) I can log into my webmail but this feature does not sync my calendar or give me instant email notifications. My email in Microsoft Outlook is working as well.
B.) My username and password combination is definitely not the problem. I tried typing in a different password and it gives me a different error (username/password entered is incorrect).
C.) I tried using “/” and “\” in the Domain\Username section. I also tried checking and un-checking the SSL options. I tried other servers available on-site (01 and 02 versions).
D.) My work technical support insists there is nothing different about my security settings but unfortunately since it is a personal device they won’t offer any real support. They blame the phone or T-mobile. T-mobile blames the phone or the server. LG blames T-mobile or the server. See my problem?
E.) I had a work phone recently that was taken away due to budget cuts so I know it is possible to get my email / calendar with an i-phone (3GS).
F.) I also tried using “Other” on step #2 and entering the information manually (selecting exchange since it is not a “Pop” server). I still get the same message.
G.) I rebooted the phone and even pulled the battery and restarted.
H.) I can connect to my work wi-fi. I activated the wi-fi and tried to enter in all the server information but it still gave me the same error with wi-fi enabled.
I.) I have setup my home email account but could not do it from the “Other” option in Step #2. (sbcglobal.net and a yahoo mail both required the yahoo app to work). I also got the g-mail account to work through the “g-mail” app.
J.) It is a brand new phone purchased yesterday 12/13/11 (i.e. factory reset seems pointless and not attempted).
Is there some phone setting I am missing? Any help on this matter or another method to sync my calender / work emails to my phone will be appreciated!!!
Thanks in advance
I don't believe Android currently supports some features of Microsoft Exchange yet because of security permissions. There is an app in the market that bypasses those checks but it's risky, because if your phone ever gets stolen and your work needs to wipe it, they can't and you may get in trouble for breaking policy. For the most part though, they wont know. I'll search for it for you but I don't remember the name.
EDIT: Sorry didn't read all the thread My browser pulled me to the last post of the thread and I thought it was OP haha
Still though, it could just be security restrictions stopping you like I said.

It's weird that you tried CM7 and it didn't work. The stock rom has an older email.apk that is not compatible with the newer versions of Exchange and some security policies but CM7 should not have that problem.
what settings are you using?
I've used both Touchdown and the default Android email client at work without a problem, but your Exchange server must fully support ActiveSync. I would ask your IT support or server admin to help you out.
BTW, while Touchdown may seem pricey, it just works. I use it daily and would recommend it to anyone wanting to connect to Exchange servers. I tried other solutions but always went back to Touchdown. Their support service is top notch.
The only problem I have is that once in a while the email app will delete my account. It only happens to exchange, my pop 3 accounts stay there.
Edit: Of course, as soon as I say this I have a problem connecting I changed my password at work and when I tried to change it on my phone it would not work. I removed the account and added it but still nothing. I wiped the cache and davlik cache and added the account, great success.

[Q] Outlook Exchange Email Problems

Ok guys so when I go to a website to check my webmail I get a certificate error. It doesnt matter what phone, computer, or tablet I use.
h t t p s ://webmail.pottsvilleschools.org/owa/
I have tried to install the certificate and it works but still get the issue. Problem is I am trying to setup my phone to check my email and it always says there is a certificate error. But on my Ipad or my wifes android it tells me there is also a certificate error the first time I try to sync but from then on it syncs fine. Almost like it ignores there error one I say ok. Why will WP7.5 not ignore this problem? Or at least off a solutions? You guys have any ideas on how I can get this to sync? I know there is an issuse with the certificate not matching the web address. But beyond fixing the actual certificate are there any other options?
Thanks
Same as myself, ipod syncs with exchange no problem, my WP7 wont.
I had this fault and another guy online found the fix for it.
1. Remove the current OWA account from your phone.
2. Install the certificate again.
3. Reboot phone.
4. Add the OWA account again.
That worked for me. Without the reboot it gave the error you have now.

I just tried what you said but I still get the certificate error. Crazy stuff
I had the error the first time. Had to export the certificate from my computer, emailed it to my gmail account, opened it on the phone and then the error went away.
Can't sync contacts though with the OWA Exchange server. Ended up exporting my exchange contacts to a CSV and importing them into Gmail so all my phone numbers show up through that account. It's sloppy but it'll work.
Still get a error
"There is a problem with the certificate for ******. Contact a support person or your service provider.
Error code :80072F0D"
So if this cant be done hwo can I go about geting the certificate fixed? Would the admin know how to do that? Hes not very smart. Mostly lazy. haha
I think your admin or IT should be able to know how or where to go to get this fixed. The other option is to ask if there is an exchange activesync server you can tie into for this email account.

You probarbly need the root certificate of the issuing CA for the phone to recognize the certificate chain. As far as I can see, yours is self-signed, so there is no certificate chain.
Simply importing a copy of the self-signed certificate does not work on your phone (been there). WP7 obviously does not have the certificate stores like Windows, or it puts them in the wrong one.
If you have the knowledge I would advice to go for CACert.org certificates. They are free (your protected systems need renewal every 6 months though), and your good to go when installing the CACert root certificate.
