You have an AOSP ROM.
Look in system>media
You'll find the existing bootanimation here.

No problem about that.
You can update your radio to GRI54 using links in the development forum.
Just flash the .zip file

Hi,
I did a search and I'm not sure if this is the final version.
Someone posted this in the Desire General Forums.
It's available at http://developer.htc.com/
http://dl4.htc.com/RomCode/Source_and_Binaries/HTC_Desire_Android_2.3_Upgrade.zip
Please don't flame me if its not the final version.
The following is a copy and paste from the website:
This update is only recommended for expert users who want to experience Android 2.3 and understand the limitations which apply to this update. Due to memory constraints several applications have been removed from this update and we are only offering the ROM upgrade utility (RUU) for you to download. Please note that flashing this ROM will erase your previous customizations, including any messages, emails, contacts, and other personal information. We suggest you take advantage of your Google account and other backup solutions available on the Android Market to ensure you do not lose your personal data. Your SD card will not be erased or modified.
The major changes in this update include:
- All customizations, including operator applications, will be removed.
- All wallpapers, except the default wallpaper, will be removed from the ROM code and included in the zip file.
- Several HTC applications will be removed from the ROM code and included in the zip file.
- The official Facebook application will be removed and is downloadable on the Android Market.
Note: This ROM update is for development only and not for general public use. Upgrades to non-authorized phones may result in loss of functionality. In addition certain functions may no longer be usable after re-flashing the ROM, including but not limited to MMS and SMS and HTC also disclaims liability for any unusable functions. HTC disclaims liability for the loss and/or leakage of any personal data resulting from the re-flashing of the ROM.
Exclusions: The following regional variants are not-compatible with this upgrade: Germany (Telekom Deutschland), North America, South Korea, and Japan.

They didn't. Why would they do that? :-/
That always takes a while. This is 'only' the RUU which you can flash your device with. But it contains the binary kernel which is still useful till they release the sources which they are obliged to.
Good to hear baad! Can't wait
Can't believe the update has actually been released!

Just checked the website and it seems that all the kernel sources are there except the source for the Desire, which i hope is built into this update.
Judging by the size in MB of this update i assume its Sense 1.0 that came with the desire, i do stand corrected if someone can confirm that it isnt!
Damn! Knew we'd only get old sense
At least the base should be useful for devs!

Who cares about official updates anymore, at least I don’t, I switch between Sense 3 and 2.1 and MIUI ever often as I feel I mean depending on the developers and how htc intends to release furure versions of android OS updates the only option is to either switch to AOSP ROMS or hope that the devs who have been in this community continue to bring us ports of newer versions of sense and android. I bet my money that this is the last update the OG Desire see as its life span as far as htc is concerned is now over. I mean I still see in my country the OG desire being sold heavily but only the flag ship devices will get newer versions of android and sense and most people don’t know about custom roms and AOSP roms but hey BIG UP to ALL THE DEVS in both the desire and the desire HD threads and to people like snq- and seo and his crew who have made the impossible possible.
Now that the DEVS have a kernel source for 2.3.3 the already awesome ROMs are going to get even more AWESOME, THANKS to OUR AWESOME DEVS.

I had a pre-release version of the phone with the same everything, except the kernel was dated Mar19th. After rooting it, I got nonstop problems with wifi. (phone would get into a reboot loop if you ever connected to any wifi network)
I had exchanged the phone with HTC, hoping that the replacement would have the current baseband/build/kernel. Unfortunately my replacement had the same everything, but with a slightly newer kernel.
Currently I am stil waiting to hear back from HTC to let me know if there will be an update that updates my baseband, or if they want me to exchange my phone again. I have held off on rooting this one because I'm quite positive it'll have the same wifi issues once rooted.

Yes,, and yes.
for anyone who wants to do this for themselves - decompile framework-res.apk with apktool, navigate to /res/values/bools.xml, open it with something that won't kill the document (gedit for Linux, Notepad++ for Windows), look for an entry along the lines of config_showNavigationBar, set it to true, save it, recompile, bam, you just made magic.
Also, @OP, to disable capacitive lights, go into /res/values/arrays.xml, look for config_autobrightnessbacklightvalues, change them all to 0. This isn't guaranteed to work, but it worked on my myTouch 4G.
