I had a pre-release version of the phone with the same everything, except the kernel was dated Mar19th. After rooting it, I got nonstop problems with wifi. (phone would get into a reboot loop if you ever connected to any wifi network)
I had exchanged the phone with HTC, hoping that the replacement would have the current baseband/build/kernel. Unfortunately my replacement had the same everything, but with a slightly newer kernel.
Currently I am stil waiting to hear back from HTC to let me know if there will be an update that updates my baseband, or if they want me to exchange my phone again. I have held off on rooting this one because I'm quite positive it'll have the same wifi issues once rooted.

grh78c = stock version 2.3.2
gri40 = stock version 2.3.3
gri54 = stock version 2.3.3 (europpean version with lcd)
It's the baseband version of your phone

No problem about that.
You can update your radio to GRI54 using links in the development forum.
Just flash the .zip file
Aaah okay. Thanks for the information

or flash the radios via fastboot (.img).. either one would work
Fastboot, was required only while rooting. From there on, cwm recovery ftw!

you don't flash radio without doing md5sum first ...
Hi all,
my main question is that installing OTA updates manually is considered flashing?
Also, i want to double-checked if the version i updated is appropriate for my i9020
Information of my current i9020 are:
Android Version: 2.3.3
Baseband Version: I9020XXKB1
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7-g1d030a7 ([email protected] #1)
Build Number: GRI40
Is this right? Any NS(i9020) users please verify...
Thanks people.
Its a form of flashing yes,but not the form that is used in this forum...any flashing referred to in this forum is usually done by a recovery image which has been installed on the phone by the user...as to what the latter part of your post means ....i am not sure.
Yes its the latest. Kb3 is a newer radio you dingy have. Mainly for euros but works better

Okay good to hear that
Cause I'm worry that it will affect my battery life after flashing.

I hope you're not disappointed. GB is pretty much like Froyo.
It's easy enough to root your phone, try a GB build and then go back to stock if you want to do so.

Well I updated my baseband but I can only hear things when I'm on speaker phone, otherwise it's the same as before where I can't here anything and they can't hear anything. Any ideas?

Actually you have that backwards.
The newbaseband fix is for phones on the March 2012 baseband. He is on the July baseband so the fix does not apply to him.
Only the 2.3.4 version ROMs run new baseband without fix. No CM7/9/10 ROM supports March 2012 baseband without fix, than it breaks BT calling.

You have an AOSP ROM.
Look in system>media
You'll find the existing bootanimation here.
