I looked up the first part of the kernel and it looks like it may have come from E-Z Recovery. Is that possible? Thanks!

What rom are you running? Because that is the correct kernel for the latest TW JB VRBLK1 update. If you're on ICS, then you will have serious issues.

I was running PA but recovered back to CleanROM 5 to see if it improved my GPS lock. I read that the stock kernel was recommended for CleanROM, so that's why I asked.
It looks like it must have come with the rom . Thanks everyone for the quick responses!

Hi,
I would like to use supercurios's color calibration tool to change my colors back to vibrant. But I want to preserve the possibility for getting future OTA update. Or if it is not possible with custom kernel then the chance to revert back stock kernel easily at least.
My Nexus is
Hardware: i9020T SAMOLED
ROM: completely stock 2.3.4 (no rooted, no unlocked bootloader)
Baseband: I9020XXKD1
Kernel: 2.6.35.7-ge382d80 android [email protected] #1
BuildNr: GRJ22
I read a lot of threads and I'm now pretty confused what I really need to do this and what kernel is for this??
Please help me and give me a step-by-step guide what should I do to use color calibration tool?
Thank you!

First of all you need to get clockworkmod recovery. Then you flash a kernel's zip file through cwm. Any kernel in the Nexus S android dev section has supercurio's color mod included, then you can download the Voodoo control app in the market to set your color preference. Hope that helps.

first of all thank you for response
can I install CWM onto 2.3.4 as it is described for 2.3 in stickies? Any kernel is good for receiving and install OTA?
1. yes you can,
2. i think so but im not entirely sure. havent been to stock since a week after i got my nexus s.
if you want to be as close to stock but getting the extra features of a custom rom, i suggest you flash an AOSP (andoird open source project) based custom rom.
Thanks for help!
You're welcome

You already know this is in the wrong section and I hope you learned your lesson... But to answer your question, it has to be compiled into the kernel. Showp is soon to release an AOSP ics kernel so I'm sure we will have it soon.

Lel. There's a Question & Answer section for a reason.
"Brotherhood of Terepin"
Here's a direct link to the superb Tamcore kernel:
http://files.tamcore.eu/android/?dir=tamcore-kernel
Read the site carefully as Sweep2wake is disabled by default.
You have to flash the add-ons that you require separately.
Cheers.
+1. This worked for a couple of days for me. However my camera stopped working so I had to revert back to the bundled kernel in the Rom. I am on Spider's AOKP/CM9 build. Some has success in flashing the kernel to get sleep2wake, but it's a hit or miss for me. I think I have an app that gives a force reboot like noLED. That app seems to conflict with a lot of mods that I experienced personally.

Hi,
I was trying to install the CM9/10 for my device and I found a link on how to install here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S/SGH-T959V/Installing_CyanogenMod_9
I am following the steps, but i am stuck at a place where i have to install CWM 5.0.2.x or higher. I checked their website http://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager and found version 3.2.0.0. Could you guys please let me know where to find 5.0.2.8?? or suggest an alternative. I am sorry if there was a post similar to this, as i have done extensive search before posting this thread. Thanks in advance, waiting for a reply.
As stated on the wiki page you linked to, you need a kernel with CWM Recovery preinstalled (don't use ROM Manager!)
This page shows you how to flash a kernel onto the device to give you the proper recovery.
Keep reading the wiki, there's lots of good stuff in there to teach you how this device works as far as flashing goes

You need an AOSP kernel. Not TW. KT747 is probably the way to go. Just make sure you download the AOSP version. Next time say what ROM you're running. That way you can avoid confusion early on.

Not sure if there is a single thread that lists all the kernels. Just go here to the original android development forum:

Edit - actually, perhaps this thread may help you:

As in, from March? lol Ahh, you basically can't flash any current kernel out unless it's from around March 4th. Ahh, you're using the Linux 3.0 based version then. All AOSP roms have moved to the Linux 3.4 kernel as of early April Edit: Actually,mid-March was the Linux 3.0 to 3.4 switch which means all kernels are now incompatible with roms dated say before early March.
Here's KT747 from March 5th, should be fine flashing this.
Edit: flash the AOSP 4.2 version btw, that's what CM10.1 is based on

Nah, flashing kernels only necessitates you wiping Cache and Dalvik Cache in recovery. Neither of which is user data. Cache and Dalvik Cache get rebuilt once the rom boots so it's not something you'll notice besides the initial boot.
As for your second question, no this is not the only kernel you can use. If you want to stay on this exact rom, then you'll just have to do a lot of searching through kernel threads, for their Linux 3.0 based kernels from early March. However, this goes along with what I said in my prior post. Given that you are on a March 4th rom, you can only use Linux 3.0 based kernels which kernel devs usually mention in their changelog. Most (honestly all) kernel devs have stopped actively developing these and have moved onto Linux 3.4 kernels which will not boot on the rom you are on because it is outdated.
I encourage you to upgrade your rom to a current one and to keep up with active development that way you don't get left behind when flashing kernels (if that's your thing).

I wouldn't. Being that you're moving from a March CM build to a May CM build with a lot of changes, you need to do a full wipe in recovery to upgrade roms. Doing a dirty flash in this case introduces way too much room for issues to arise. As long as you do not wipe internal storage then you will not lose your data on the internal sdcard.
