[Q] WIFI notifications on Stock Rooted 4.1.1 - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

I went back to stock and rooted. Do you have any idea how to get rid of the damn wifi ongoing notifications? Can't stand that crap. Its there when wifi is on, its there when wifi is off! The sqlite hack didn't work and Anycut doesn't have the shortcut needed based on the research I've done.
I still have the "wifi networks available" and the "wifi is off, tap to turn on wifi".

Not to be funny, but I honestly didn't know stock was up to JB yet. Guess I didn't give VZW enough credit.

LTE-only option?

I keep thinking I read a post by someone saying this was possible at some point but if they did, I can't seem to find it by searching. Is there a way to try and force the phone to connect to LTE connections only? I can't find anything obvious in the settings to do this if so...CDMA only certainly. Seems like though if I'm remembering right it might have been in one of the dialer menu settings?

Go into Phone, dial *#*#4636#*#*, then go into phone information, slide to the bottom, and there will be an option for "LTE Only"
Don't have that option here....when I go into that menu I see:
Phone information
Battery information
Usage statistics
Wi-Fi information
Motorola Services
That's it.

Did you miss the body of my post?
Ok I see it now, I went into all the submenus earlier but didn't see it originally. Its not all the way at the bottom of Phone Info, it's about 2/3rds of the way down cramped between a couple of buttons that it sits above, and underneath the title header 'Set preferred network type', just for anyone else that may be looking for this.

I can confirm that you can toggle it back and forth, but I can't confirm it works in the purest sense because thus far there's no LTE in my area unfortunately.
When I originally posted inquiring about this was the night before I headed back home from PA and had hoped I'd be able to use the ability to to do some more fully-fleshed out Sensorly mapping rather than constantly having to toggle airplane mode on and off, but I didn't get the answer until I was back home.
Now that i am home i can confirm this does work. Thanks again zodiac!

[Q] {RESOLVED} HELP? No service alert, but I do have service and data

{RESOLVED} i forced close the phone, done!
I searched around, but was unable to find any others with the same issue. In my status bar I have an alert No service. Selected network (T-Mobile) unavailable. I am unable to get rid of the alert although I do have cell service and data???
I also tried removing the sim, rebooting and putting the sim back in...still a no go.
I have tried going to the available network page and selecting T-Mobile. When I do, it says registered on network, but the no service indicator remains in the status bar.
Any ideas?

Toggle airplane mode ON-OFF. It worked for me once.
This has happened to me on purity Rom with not Xposed installed.
I don't Know whose idea it wast to add a persistent notification about 'No service' when you are on a dead zone or airplane mode.
The signal bars and Airplane icon are enough imo.

Relentless WiFi Notifications

Is there any known way to disable the CONSTANT notifications indicating that "WiFi Networks Are Available" or "You are Connected to [network name]"? These notifications are completely useless, because when are there ever not WiFi networks available? I also don't need a notification that I've connected to a trusted network... there is a WiFi icon for that exact purpose. Driving me nuts!
I just switched to the M8 after having a Galaxy Nexus running AOSP. On the Gnex, you could easily disable these notifications in the Advanced menu under WiFi settings. Did Verizon remove this ability for some reason?
they removed it a while back to encourage people to use wifi instead of 3/4g. As soon as we get s-off customs roms will start pouring in and they will definitely have the notification of.
btw, i'm thinking of moving from my gnex to the m8, what are your thoughts on the comparison? are you happy with the m8?

Well, this notification is "encouraging" me to just turn off WiFi altogether and just use my unlimited data plan full-time!
So far I like the M8. Sense interface definitely has a learning curve, but it does have a few nice added features like motion gestures. The M8 is lightning fast compared to the GNex!

I found it and switched it to 0 and I'm still getting the notification after saving it and a reboot... I think it may be because of the temp-root method we have or else it's just not the correct setting? Oh well, it was worth a shot! Thanks!

hmm.... there might be another setting somewhere else...
i don't think it has anything to do with the temp root. as long as the value gets changed it shouldn't matter how you were able to change it...
anyways, i'd keep poking around the settings to see if anything looks interesting.

Very true... Root method should not matter cause it's just required to edit the field. I'll mess around a little too and post back with any findings.
Thanks for the tip. I also found the setting in the "Global" section of the db. The changed setting survived after the reboot, but unfortunately it didn't disable the notifications.
I'm getting this too on the Verizon M8 - I just switched from a Galaxy S4, but I'm seriously considering returning the phone for this issue. Is there really no way to disable this without actually rooting or running a custom ROM? I cannot believe that I have to hit the clear button a dozen times a day to get rid of that annoying notification or turn off Wifi altogether. I also have the T-mobile OG One and never had this issue.

I could turn it off in my Verizon GS4 - guess I will have to check on it in the GS5 before considering switching out again. I'm just going to turn off WiFi all the time in the meantime.

It isn't going to work until we have a true root method. We don't have R/W access to anything but /system/xbin any changes you make aren't going to stick. Nothing can be written to any system files. Same reason we can't edit our build.prop or debloat our devices. Don't fret though, I am sure we will have a true root method available soon along with S-OFF.

What setting are you talking about? If you're talking about one to hide the notification in the Notification screen, I don't see any setting to disable that.
Let's be clear about what is there and not there - In the "advanced" menu in Wifi on the Verizon M8, there is a setting to uncheck called "notify me - when launching apps, notify me when WiFi is available" - that box is unchecked, but I still get the icon and message in the notification bar whenever I have Wifi on, but am not connected to one of my saved networks. It only prevents the notification from launching when opening apps.
However, on my M7, the setting is "Notify me when an open network is available" - on the M7 (t-mobile), when that box is unchecked, I never get a "wifi networks are available" when wifi is on (let's be honest, in LA or most major cities every square inch of the city has wifi networks available).
I don't have my Verizon GS4 handy but am pretty sure the menu option was to uncheck "notify me when wifi networks are available" because I never got those notifications.
Has anyone figured this out yet, especially since we are S-OFF now? I turned off anything that seemed like it might turn off the "Connected to" notification in either the secure or global tables but I still get it

GALAXY S6 SM-G920F Problems

I just bought the mentioned phone and I'm experiencing some weird problems on it. For example, I disabled most of the google apps by going to the App menu > Edit and disabled them by pressing the "minus" on the icon. Now if I want to re-enable them in Settings > Applications by going to the Disabled Apps section, pressing Enable and it gives me the option to DISABLE it again? WTF? Seems like I can't enable any app I disabled now..
The second thing is, it's more of a question really.. If I long press the home button, it only makes a short vibration and does nothing at all, is that normal or should something pop-up?
I mean really!? Ok, when you've pressed the enable toogle and the toggle becomes "disable" it means the app is already enabled and it gives you the option to disable it again.
Long press of the home button brings you to google now app, you must have disabled it.

Ohh I get it now, if you've disabled it and the app is already updated, and you're trying to enable it again. Just click the pop up to disable it again, it just wants you to uninstall the updates and it reverts back to the apps factory version, and press the enable toggle again, the app will be enabled. You just have to reupdate the app again. In the touchwiz home you can directly disable an app but in the applications manager when you try to disable apps you have to uninstall the updates. Since disabling through the home launcher is just a shortcut.
Just touchwiz things.

Also, do you recommend disabling the apps you don't use? For example I have disabled most of the google apps on there, since I'm not prone to use them..

No On/Off option for Advanced Calling

I have it enabled on my account but there's only one default option in settings > advanced calling. Anyone experienced something similar? I tried resetting and power off and on to no avail.
Do you have any if the Verizon bloat frozen? I had to unfreeze all apps to get it enabled, now I wish I hadn't, I can't get Google voice to work again!
Nope.
I have the same problem, I enabled it when I got my phone but now I cannot find an option to disable it. When I enter the 'Advanced Calling' menu it asks if I want to activate but I have already done so. It goes through its routine and tells me I have it enabled already but it wont give me an option to turn it off.

I am on stock *OC3 with some of the verizon bloat frozen, with root. Could the frozen apps have something to do with it? No I do not have a second option underneath.
This is what I see when I click 'Activate' even though its already been activated. When I reboot, I see the same thing all over again.
I am not sure, try unfreezing all the Verizon apps and see if it works.
I am on Clean Rom Lite 1.1 but other users have not experienced the same problem so it may just be something on my line/account.
