I find my HTC Sensation very a solid and hardy phone; I've accidentally dropped it a few times but thankfully it has emerged unscathed each time. I personally hate the idea of putting on a case but I'd like to hear some of your own experiences. If you have somehow damaged your phone, I'd like to hear how that happened (fell from what height, on what surface, dragged across how far, etc), and also post photos of the resulting damage. This whole post might sound a bit sadistic but I think it'll serve as a good lesson for the rest of us and perhaps it could also give us a better idea of what to look for in a case should we finally decide to buy one.
So, fellow owners of the HTC Sensation, show us your phone's battle scars!
This is actually a very good idea! I'm really curious about this too!
Well I unfortunatly thought the same about my phone after having dropped it a couple of times and it surviving unscathed. I was in my kitchen and I lost grip of my phone, sending it plumetting down to the hard tile floor. It fell about 5 feet and landed facedown on the top right-hand corner. The end result was a spread of cracks along the top of my digitizer. Moral of the story: sensations are NOT indestructable. Resilient/mostly scratch-proof? Yes. But a bad fall on a hard surface WILL result in moderate-severe damage. If you feel that you can adequately keep your sensation safe and hate cases as much as I do then the risk might be worth it, but if you hope to keep your phone completely unscathed no matter what, get a case.
You sir, are way too lucky. I decided not to use a case (AND THIS IS THE ONLY DAY I didn't want to use a case *big sigh!*) totally forgot my phone was in my pocket. Took it off to put on another pair and of all places... I was standing on hard floor. Thank goodness the screen didn't crack! The cover however, is already replaced. Thank goodness it's that easy! (I just with the antenna's werent there)
Just a bit of damage, the rest seems like dust. but there's mine

I buy a TPU case & use it since bought senny. So far after 5 month, never drop yet ^^

I don't have a picture as I quickly sold mine. I got a brand new sensation a while ago and within less than a week, I found a scratch on the so called scratch resistant gorilla glass, the worst part is that I don't even know where it came from. I've taken good care of the phone within that one week period and have never dropped it or anything. At that point, I quickly bought a screen protector and bought a new phone considering the cost of replacing a cell phone costs less than replacing a digitizer. Moral of the story, always use a screen protector if you don't want scratches, the advertising for gorilla glass being durable and scratch resistant is drastically exagerated.
Im from Serbia, and getting case for phone here is VERY hard..
I got my own Teracell (copy of capdase) for sensation. But i hate it cause my phone feels fat and big (when you are holding it in hand.. i know this sounds weird to weirdo' people ).
So i bought Hard Shell .. link.
Its not same as Teracell protection but it has better looks..
As far as screen protectors - some one told me, here in Serbia, that due to curves on the edges of Sensation screen, it is impossible to fit any good screen protector..
Can u recommend any to me ?
Thanks
@KAwAtA Ooh that looks nasty. Glad to hear the glass was intact. When it dropped the frame didn't pop out from the main phone body I assume? And looks like just scratches and no really major dents to the frame. Thanks for the photo btw!
@Laynee I agree with you, I don't see many screen protectors marketed to work specially for Sensation, and my guess is also due to the curved glass. But I have never been a fan of screen protectors (and phone cases) anyway. My previous Hero survived 2 years without visible scratches with normal wear. Pretty happy with the Gorilla Glass so far.
@Radio_Dude how was the scratch, was it actually very clearly visible? I've honestly not seen phones with Gorilla Glass scratched and I'm intrigued. My old HTC Hero had Gorilla Glass and it took quite a lot of punishment being in my pocket with various other items; the glass was unscathed but the metal frame didn't fare too well. So far so good with my Sensation!
@Marioag_0412 That sound really painful, I really feel sorry for that! 5 feet does seem pretty high. Like you I hate cases too, and dropping phones seem rather inevitable. Hopefully if it does fall, it won't be from such a height and on a rather forgiving surface.
Why people resist using cases and screen protectors is beyond me. They're cheap, and there are PLENTY that are virtually unnoticeable on the device but give better grip and protect better.
Be smart. Protect your investment with a case and screen protector.
fiz3nigma: believe it or not, it was quite noticeble especially under light. When I moved my nail over it, I can even feel the presence of the scratch. I heard that gorilla glass is especially prone to being scratched by sand (being made from silicon and all). Nonetheless, i'm playing it safe now and have put on a screen protector as soon as I got my replacement sensation.
Here's mine after dropping it to the asphalt from 0,7 meters.

Hey d-iivil, why don't you just buy a digitizer from the internet and do it yourself. Here in canada, there are stores that are willing to do the work for 70 bucks and buying the digitizer separately cost around 30 bucks from ebay. that's only 100 canadian, who ever is charging you 270 euro is obviously ripping you off, for that kind of money, might as well put it into getting a new phone

Because of the warranty
In reality I had to pay only 30e since the insurance company paid the rest, that's why I also didn't want to do the job myself. Htc repair changed the digitizer and lcd.

Man!! Today was a very horrific terrafic (is that a word?) and dangerous day for my senny!! It just drop 3ft from air into flat floor concrete and bounds and then it flip 2 to 3 times before landing quietly on the floor :'(.. thats is the sad news..But the good news is my senny wearing TPU case!! Im sure its had absorb all the hit while its drop and bound on the floor!! Lol..lucky me, so far, no physical scratch what so ever..i try all the functioning, gps, web, camera and so far so good, all functining well..
Its scare the hell out of me!!
Maybe i should buy the hard cover and ignore the bulky thing as long my senny save :"(
I own senny for already 186 days and today is the 1st time i drop it!! Its officialy, all the phone i even own had been acidently drop by me at least 1 time..haha

Pretty sure most of you can tell where I am heading with this thread based on the title. I personally find the One S has a rather thin and slippery grip on the side, and I am wondering if the fellow One S owners share similar sentiments.
I had the phone for about 2.5 weeks or so, and was totally loving it, except the fact that I always had a hard time getting a good grip with the phone in my hand. One day, I accidentally dropped the phone, from maybe not more than 3ft high. And unfortunately the screen completely cracked. I was extremely upset, partially at myself for not using a screen protector, but more so at HTC.
Phone is not covered by T-mobile's warranty (no insurance), HTC could not even give me a quote for repair due to the phone was just released. So now I have arguably the latest and best android phone in the market collecting dust at home.
Sorry to hear, dude - was this the grey version?
I don't think a screen protector would have helped you as they're more to protect from scratches, not impact.
Did you buy it with a credit card? If so, you may have insurance without even knowing it.
Dude thats so bad
I new i would break my phone if i didnt get a case... after a few minutes it was slipping out of my hand...
The design is awesome, but they should have implemented so rubber grips down the sides or something..
Anyway, if you do get it fixed...... GET A CASE !! its the best thing i ever bought
Check the House Insurance (if you have it) you may be covered....mine is!
Edit:
Ebay are selling the screens
I know Discover cards have a insurance clause on some of their stuff so you should check that out like the other guy said . . but yea it's slipped out of my hands onto my jeans countless times because of the lack of grip lol .. that's why i bought a case first thing ..and as for screen protectors i've cracked 3 phones with them on (one with a case on as well) so they don't really help from drops and places should tell you that when you buy it too
Can u post a pic of the damage

I dropped my iphone4 a countless of times on concrete and the glass never shattered. I dropped my 1S a couple of times already on ceramic tiles and still nothing except that MAO paint problem.
I think cases are butt ugly and a waste of money. I wouldn't even go for the 1S if I was going to use a case. Seriously put a 1S in a case and what does it have over the SGS3 or the 1X?
Anyway just my opinion
i actually dont believe in phone case either becuz i think they make the phone look ugly and bulky, thus ive never bought phone cases.
however, due to this phone being so thin and slippery, I felt like a grippy phone case is a must have. after surfing around the web for a little while, i found diztronic matte back phone case. Just got the case today and i love it!
high quality case, its made of TPU so it has a good amount of grip. All the holes are cut out perfectly (it doesnt cover any speaker/mic/sensor opening). The case is also thin so it doesnt make my phone bulky (sure it makes ur phone look a little thicker, but it's not a bad compromise at all). And last but not least, i really dig the look of the case, very well designed in my opinion. It also come with a screen protector in case anyone needs one.
And this is exactly why I'm putting a case on my phone for the first time ever. Sorry to hear about your phone mate.

I've checked online and seen it listed but can I just verify that this phone has Gorilla Glass 1/2? Obviously, that doesn't make it crack proof but I work construction and end up putting my phones through their paces and found that my Milestone (Gorilla Glass) held up a fair bit better than my Desire Z (no Gorilla Glass).
And yes, in my situation a case (And insurance) is a necessity on a three year contract.
I've had the phone for all of 5 days. it fell from my hand as I put something down on a rock, litterally no drop whatsoever, but it slid a whopping 6 inches down the rock on it's face and the screen cracked and scratched. if it is supposed to have gorilla glass, I was gypped. I have no renters insurance and didn't buy it with a credit card, but I do have a plan.
-get the insurance from t-mobile, as I'm withing the 14 days
-enjoy not caring about the phone for the next 6 months
-pay the 130 for a replacement through asurion
-sell new phone for 400+ (if the release of the S3 doesn't drop the market value too much)
-buy Galaxy S3

oh, just to rub salt in the wound, when I got home, today, after cracking the screen, my dritztronic case, with screen protector, was in my mailbox... mocking me...
Get one of these TPU cases, very minimal and offers a good grip, easy to take on and off and has a ever so slightly raised edge around the front so even if you drop it face first the screen won't impact any surfaces. I got the clear one with the curved sand blasted part. I think I paid like $9 shipped and it came within a week.
Thanks
Thanks everyone for all the sympathetic and constructive replies. Unfortunately the phone is just right over the 14day US T-mobile insurance, and my credit card does not provide any.
I never believed in cases either, always thought it kills the design of the phone, but after this incident, I may think differently. Such a shame though, it's a such a slick looking phone WITHOUT the case. I am considering writing a complaint email to HTC, not sure if it will do any good, but worth a shot.
I had also checked screen replacement online, but they are still in the $150-$200 range.

I doubt HTC is going to help you. You dropped it, and therefore are responsible. Yeah, it SUCKS.
Also, I'm surprised that this screen is Gorilla Glass, based on these reports of cracking. What's the point of Gorilla Glass if it breaks just as easy? I know it's scratchproof, but it's also supposed to be much more resistant to breaks.

It's what they SHOULD be doing..seriously. But to explain the process:
Call tmobile
Ask for technical support
Tell them "i don't know what's wrong with my phone, the touch screen isn't working on certain parts and it keeps freezing and calling people on its own" or make up any other non physical issue you can think of.
They'll make you trouble shoot the phone and just play dumb and stick to your "my phone isn't working" excuse
Then the technical support person will tell you "okay, we're going to send you a phone exchange and you just send back the one with issues" they'll ask you if the phone has any PHYSICAL or WATER damage... SAY NO. They'll tell you if they find any damage they will charge you ___ which as the previous poster stated is A LOT cheaper charge than anything the insurance or htc or anyone else will bill you for. You might have to pay for the shipping of the new exchange and that's it.
(and if you end up getting nervous about this and chicken out when the new phone gets to you... just send the same phone back... tmobile sends you a little white box and inside that white box is the shell of the "new" phone with a pre labeled mailing slip and a little sticker to seal the box up again...no big deal)
Make sense?
Phone fell out of my pocket while sitting in a patio chair, maybe 12" off the ground...landed on concrete and yeah, I'm doubting this is gorilla glass. Anyhow, anyone know where to get it fixed?

is it too early to have those retail parts...on the market...
contact htc or carrier, see if they have any repairmen plan
I've only heard of one website so far that is able to replace the LCD and digitizer for the HTC One X so far, and they charge $250 to do so... I agree with beaups, just use a spare phone right now for a month or so until they get the needed parts in the "market" if you don't want to send it back to HTC or your carrier
Gotta be within the first 30 days...try to add some insurance?
Not the most ethical thing and I don't condone it, just providing another possible option.
Thanks guys. Just got a ticket opened with HTC and will see what they charge me. Sold off all my old phones a couple days ago except for my iPhone 4, so I'll switch back to that in the meantime. That screen is gonna seem soooooo small.

The phone is gorilla glass 2 but it is also like the iPhone 4 in that it exposes the edges to impact and hardened glass shatters very easy when you hit an edge.

^it fell exactly face down. Pretty flush. And I'm not kidding about the distance it fell. No biggie, it's just a phone.
I do not understand how these scratches came about, never keep keys in my pocket. Just normal usage (in and out of pockets and resting on table). My iPhone took a lot more abuse than this HOX yet there is so much more damage to my screen for the HOX.
Anyone else noticed this problem?
Keys won't scratch it. Sand and other hard, gritty things that reside in pockets will. It's not a problem, it's glass. Normal glass is hard to scratch, ours is even harder. If your screen got scratched, it was because something very hard (like sand) came in contact with it.
I've been using mine since launch without any kind of screen protector (or case) and have yet to get a scratch on the screen *knocks on wood*
Honestly, if your screen was scratched 99% of the time it was due to sand in your pocket.
Actually......ive had like 4 one x devices, they all held up just fine. Except one replacement i recieved, which by the way was used!!! Insurance claim! It came with about 30 little scratches on the screen! I sent it back, and they sent me a brand new, in the original box, scratch free one x!!! anyways......my suggestion.....get a zagg! I have two of these phones - one has developed small scratches a little too easy for my liking. Anyhow, thanks for this info, will try the Zagg, had not heard of them cheers :good:
I don't use screen protectors or cases. I've got a couple of hairline scratches that are only visible when the screen is off and it's held under the light at a certain angle. And that's after I dropped it onto the road and it slid across the road screen side down. Gorilla glass did it's job. If you look after it, it won't get scratched.

I swear that HTC phones scratch by just looking at them. I had an inpire 4g and in 2 weeks with careful use a scratch about 1/2" long that you could hang your fingernail on just showed up on the screen. I was pissed. After that I got the Samsung infuse and used it with no screen protector and never got a scratch. After the infuse I got the gs2, never a scratch. I used the international galaxy note, never a scratch. Then comes the HOX and after 2 days of using this phone it gets 2 scratches, one an inch long and the other 1/2" long, both you could hang your fingernail on. I took it back for other reasons and got the unlocked gs2 from negri, used it for a month never a scratch. I bricked that phone by flashing an ICS leak and decided to give the HOX another try because I really like sense and the way the phone looks. After babying my HOX for maybe 3 days I go to bed not noticing any scratches, pick up my phone to check xda, and I see the rainbow effect of a deep scratch. I turn on the light and sure enough there is a scratch you can hang your fingernail on. The next day I bought the zagg hd shield and it hides the scratch good enough for me but it still pisses me off that HTC phones scratch so easily. The HOX is still my favorite phone to date, even with the scratched up screen.

Should answer all your questions related to how durable the screen is lol.
I've somehow managed to get a couple very minor scratches in mine. Not sure what from exactly but they are the kind that you have to tilt the phone so that the light reflects just the right way while the screen is off to be able to see them. Hindsight being 20/20 I should have invested in a screen protector but in all honesty it isn't that big of a deal. Aside from those extremely minor blemishes, the screen has held up very well against drops and normal wear.
For anyone that doesnt know about zagg already.........they cost around 25 bucks for the hd, and its well worth the money! I swear on everything, its just like looking at the screen without it. And the best part.........its guarenteed for life!!!!!!! Anything happens, or you get a replacement......its like 3 bucks for shipping. I suggest anyone with an expensive device get one. Gorrilla glass or not. Just saying.

Seems like the OP answered their own question, since if they have 3 scratches already, I think they already know how durable the screen is?
My HTC One X is having the same exact problem. I have been battling between AT&T & HTC for them to replace my screen but they are both telling me that these scratches are not covered because they are "physical damage". I moved to the One X from an iPhone 4 and never used a screen protecter for 2 years and I just sold the phone to Gazelle as excellent condition...the screen was flawless with no scratches. This issue only seems to be effecting a handful of users but IT IS a defect!!!
This post on Gizmodo kind of sums it up.

In my opinion, the review is BS. The phone gets occasionally warm but not that hot. I've not even once had it dial by itself in my pocket (and I keep it an average 8 hours a day in there), then the guy expects to drop the phone and leave no marks on the screen or casing, and then he ends his review with 5 hours battery life - just explain hiw can you get that with normal or even heavy use (unless you play games and don't put the phone down for like 4 hours).
Edit: and yet, he is rating the phone 4/5...

So the unthinkable happened this morning when I woke up. My phone fell from my lap and the screen cracked in four different places. The digitizer is shot, as i can't get any touch responses. Samsung really screwed us over with making it the way it is made. I am not sure if I should get it replaced, apparently I have to pay 100 bucks to do so. By the way, I think this is the most cracked android phone out there. So it now can be said it competes with the iphone on all levels. Great f'ing job Samsung. Terrible idea to use Gorilla Glass II and make it so thin that it break falling out of bed (which is about a 2.5 ft fall). Hell, I had the stupid case with the flip cover which didnt do jack.
Anyways, what do you think my options are?
1. Pay repair fee
2. Get a used phone from swappa or ebay
3. Do nothing and have no phone.
4. use an old phone while you decide.
If it was me, I'd repair the screen and then either get a decent case (flip case is probably worse than no case since it offers basically no protection but gives a false sense of security) or sell the phone for something more sturdy if you are prone to accidents.
The phone can be sturdy if you put a decent case on it. Ive dropped my phone twice from about 5-6 feet. Once on to concrete and once on a wooden deck. My case absorbed the impact nicely both times and I have 0 damage.
I would honestly just pay the $100 for the insurance if you have it. I had to use mine because my screen cracked and they send me a brand new GS3 including the battery, charger, and headphones. It's not worth trying to fix since you can get a new one.
I bought insurance through Verizon because these things do happen. You may want to consider it as it covers theft, lost, damages etc out of the first year...
