AT&T specifically never promised anything. That was when it was supposed to be delivered to one of the carriers. How did you post that when it's now December and there isn't anything yet is puzzling.

You know not the hour nor the day.

Actually I believe it may be. I have an update waiting in que & have heard from two sources, one that works for the big H, & heard that the JB rom is starting to roll out. I have not had time yet this morning to DL & pull the update, but I believe it just started rolling out this morning.
I plan on taking a look at the OTA that I have in que over lunch & will report back.

Updates on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) and Frequently Asked Questions
We're looking forward to providing our HTC One X and HTC One S customers with Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) along with our latest version of HTC Sense. As with any software upgrade, we work closely with our carrier partners to ensure we deliver the best experience possible on our devices.
After internal testing, we test the software on live networks in order to confirm the experience matches our expectations, and carrier expectations, for performance, connectivity and platform stability. While testing takes time, we're working quickly with our carrier partners to rollout these updates. We'll provide information on availability once the software is ready for release.
When will additional devices receive Android 4.1?
In addition to the HTC One X and HTC One S, we are actively reviewing our product portfolio to identify candidates to receive Jelly Bean. Our goal is to prioritize review for devices launched in 2012 with our numerous carrier partners across multiple regions and then consider our ability to provide updates to products from 2011.
What is the overall timeline of Android 4.1 updates?
There are many aspects to the software development process that make it difficult for us to give specifics on upgrade timing. As a global company, we work with a number of carrier partners in various regions to ensure a great user experience with every upgrade. Each region and carrier partner has unique requirements that necessitate customized testing. Only after HTC and its partners have successfully completed the final testing will the software be released.
What devices will not get Android 4.1?
We work hard to ensure each of our products has the optimal user experience and therefore some products will remain at their current version of Android. In general, devices with 512MB RAM or less will not be upgraded to Android 4.1. At present, these devices include the HTC One V and the HTC Desire C. As we identify other devices that will not be upgraded, we'll provide updated information.
It should be noted that upgrades are not the same thing as ongoing support. Devices not being upgraded to Android 4.1 will still get software improvements, security fixes, and technical support.
What about a development version of Android 4.1?
For our developer community, we plan to make generic development ROMs of Jelly Bean available for both the HTC One X and HTC One S. As soon as the ROMs are ready, they will be posted to our HTCdev site (www.htcdev.com). We strongly recommend customers take the time to understand the limitations of the development software along with the terms and conditions on the site before downloading to their device.
My phone hasn't gotten the Android 4.1 update, while others with the same device have. Why?
Our devices are available on a wide variety of carriers and across many countries, due to localization, testing, and partner approvals, updates do not roll out to all devices with the same name at the same time.
Even once a software update begins to roll out from HTC or a carrier partner, the update can take up to 45 days from the initial push to reach each person with that device on a given network.
If your phone has not received the update after the 45-day period, navigate to Settings > About > Software Updates to have your device manually check for updates. If your device still does not show an update, please contact customer support
Why does it take so long to release an update?
Our goal is to make sure that an upgrade provides an improved customer experience and that means a high standard of quality for hardware compatibility, adapting device or carrier specific customizations, testing by HTC and partners, addressing device hardware constraints, and many other factors.
What version of HTC Sense will come with the Android 4.1 update?
The upgrade to Android 4.1 will include HTC Sense 4+.

Its coming out on 12-21-2012. Too bad we won't be able to update...

Ya, I had to read it twice to actually get it. The part when he said "to bad we wont be able to update ", and then i linked December 21 2012 together to the date Mayans predicted something would happen. At first it got took out of proportion to the world ending but they proved that mayan calendar was not the same as ours or something. But yeah you got trolled by ethantarheels123 hehe.

ICS 4.0 Update Not Until April 2012?

http://www.themobileindian.com/news/3587_Android-4.0-update-to-come-in-April-2012:-Reports
As reports point out, the updates will arrive by 2nd quarter (beginning April) of 2012 and it is again going to be Samsung devices which will get these updates first. The official word from Samsung is that the six devices to get the update first will be Galaxy S II, Galaxy Note, Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus, Galaxy Tab 7.7, Galaxy Tab 8.9 and Galaxy Tab 10.1 and all of these devices except Galaxy Note (which is coming to India on 2nd November) are already available in India.
Samsung has also said that since it had been working closely with Google on ICS, they expected to beat competitors to the market with upgrades for existing devices.
HTC has also publicly announced the plans for the updates, but it is expected to be late to the party as their phones are heavily modified version of Android and therefore will take more time to include their Sense user interface into the new updates. It will be a more uphill task since some of the features that were available only through Sense UI are now part of Android 4.0 by default.

Wow. That would be very upsetting if it took that long for an official ICS update.
And to think I actually left my device S-on and unrooted in hopes of getting this update before Christmas. Shame on me.
As soon as we get CM7 stable, I'm done with stock. Done with HTC Sense. Done with waiting for HTC and T-Mobile to get us updates (I know I'm late to the party )
Lol you thought we'd have an update this year, that's kind of funny dude. HTC is good with updates, but not that good. And I've been running cm7 since the cm team dropped it on September 11 and its very stable. Just because they call it an alpha doesn't mean it's buggy or laggy.I think it runs very well like the nightlies. But if I were you bud I'd s-off and root because when the galaxy nexus is released, Google will be releasing the source code for ICS and there will be ICS roms asap and cm9. Or just get the galaxy nexus like I'm planning on doing if you want ICS lol but seriously, you'll have ICS soon, it just won't be official.

The moment ICS gets dumped on XDA, it's gonna be a race to see who mmcan get it stable first. A "friendly" competition, if you will. #yearightlol.

I am confident that we'll have CM9 running on our phones long before HTC deigns to give us their Sensified interpretation of ICS.
I remember the Galaxy S situation last year......
Same phone as NEXUS S , but the updato to Gingerbread (released in mid dicember) is arrived in May
I'm probably not gonna wait around for HTC.
soon as stable ICS rom becomes available from our wonderful developers I'm upgrading.
lot of the Sense features are on ICS anyways.

Interesting, that may cost HTC some sales if other phones will get similar features to Sense.
we will get offical ICS if apple devcies get iOS 6 !!
htc should just send ICS for sensation..then after 3 months bring Sense 4.0
Based on past experience, HTC won't release an update until a few months after a new flagship device shipped with a new Android version is launched.
So let's say HTC announce a ICS flagship device in late Dec or early Jan, which will be shipped earliest a month after that. Say early Feb. Add two months to it, April sounds plausible.
As soon as ICS source code is released, probably within days you will start seeing custom ICS roms popping up here. Most of which will be crappy and unstable (although everyone will claim "lighting fast! Super stable!" in their thread title). I would say a month after ICS source code being released, quality ROMs will start rolling out.

I hate the break the bad news to you, but the Sensation is now officially the "red headed step child" for both HTC and the carriers around the globe. It was intended to be the flagship Android device when it was released last June, but HORRIBLE quality control lead to massive shipments of faulty devices. HTC still won't admit the issue, although the carriers now openly mention it and will even offer you an LG or Samsung device as a replacement no matter how long you have had your Sensation. With the new Nexus device about to ship, and a handful of other ICS devices on the way, HTC is in a world of hurt. They didn't get awarded the contract for the Nexus phone and the Motorola/Google merger is going to crush their bottom line. Let's also not forget about the snooping software HTC "mistakenly" installed on this phone, which they have just started rolling out updates to remove. In summary, the Sensation was intended to be a market leader. Due to multiple internal/external issues at HTC that never happened, and now they (HTC) are trying to play catch up. The other issue is that HTC has newer phones on the market which have pushed the Sensation to the back of the line when it comes to upgrades. The Sensation is caught in the middle of the newer phones who are competing against the newest version of Android. Sure, ICS will likely come out for the Sensation by Spring/Summer, but at that point the phone will be a year old and nobody will care.....

lol. nice thoughts! but for some years here in xda, whos still waiting for these "updates" when there are devs that surely be porting this as soon as source comes out? @[email protected]
and to add to that, haven't you learned that HTC is like a brick itself? like the unlocked bootloader they promised? so many people asking them about that and trying to tell them stuff, but they decided to play by their book and it just ended up xda devs coming up with a different way to unlock the bootloader. so, don't trust them, they put some crazy stuff on your phone and won't tell you that they bugged your phone for some unknown reason. thats why there's xda-developers
i dont think it will be that late ,january at the latest we should have something, beta, leak , CM8
Google I/O 2012 is on April 24 and i think they will launch another version of android then
i thought their said the that ics will come to others devices after 2 months its released! well i wont say nothing the fat lady aint sang yet
Im not really worried about the ICS update from HTC. I myself have been lucky and have had ZERO issues with my sensation, but as fast as the quality devs here can roll stuff out we will have 4.0 before too long, and this being a back of the line phone? i dont buy that. It can be considered an entry level dual core phone, but with the custom ROM's and mods available for this thing, it has the ability to blow more powerful phones off the chart.
I must admit im waiting for the Nexus Prime, but until then i'll enjoy the sensation, and probably always will.

do you have some kind of source for these claims? I've not heard a peep about this stuff from other users here or any news sites.
They didn't say anything about releasing the source in july right? Hopefully it releases the same time as Galaxy Nexus. I don't see why I would want an OTA when there's a CM9

I could provide you countless other links, but in this case Google truly is your friend!
If I'm not mistaken we would have to wait for HTC to release the source for an Android 4.0 compatible kernel to be able to run CM9 on Sensation. Or maybe the devs can patch together an Android 2.x kernel for compatibility? I'm no programmer so I'm not sure what I just said makes any sense... but apache (provides the CM7 kernel for Sensation) said that they based their kernel on source code from HTC, I guess due to the aSMP CPU in Sensation.

[Discussion]HTC Update policy

Hi there,
I finally decided to open a thread for discussing the matter above, because I do not want the thread for officially validated info here be flooded by discussion, whining and bashing.
So everybody is invited tell us here, if he thinks that HTC sucks or whatever about the HTC ICS update.
My personal opinion is, that they don't. It is normal that development is delayed, and deadlines are shifted. They have to deliver an update, that is working out of the box without feedback from community testers and iterations like the custom roms here. And this is not only valid for Android kernel and drivers but also for the Sense 3.6 stuff. The only thing one could really blame em for imho is that they don't communicate the delay. On the other hand it is clear why they do not. If they officailly announce it, it will be all over tech press and blogs and even "normal" users, will know about not only the guys here (who are a minority in global sales). And this would also give the Android critics a voice again, and HTC has definetly no interest in that, so they shut up.
So, you got a working devices, which is able of everything you were promised when buying it. HTC will update it to ICS, even though they don't have to and there is no technical need. This is why I can't understand all this frustration. Of course, I prefer to have the update sooner than later, but this is life.
Just my 2 cents.

My contract ended 4 months ago now. I switched to a 30-day rolling contract with Three as there is no phone out that that I really want. The S3 has nice specs, but I don't like the way it looks, and it's a bit too big. The HTC OneX has nice specs, but no removable storage, and it's a bit too big.
I have decided that my next phone will, I hope, be the next Nexus. I have got my hands on the NExus 7 tablet recently, and it's amazing - if they can do something half as good for the next Google phone it will be a winner.
The 'Customer Service' side doesn't worry me. As soon as I get my hands on something I tend to root it and therefore risk the warranty. As for the whole ICS thing - it doesn't really worry me as I have no doubt we'll get it in the end. I am far more concerned with how good the hardware is and how much support it gets from the devs.
I don't really mind - I've got ISC with CyanogenMod 9 anyway. It would be nice to get an official update though. For me, the waiting time doesn't matter. I'm happy with CM9/other ICS roms for now.

You know, it's not so long ago that HTC was the darling of developers just because they built the G1, G2 and Nexus One. Meanwhile Samsung owners were waiting until the end of 2011 for the Galaxy S to be upgraded from Eclair to Froyo - that's nearly a year after 2.2 first appeared.
Sony Ericsson used to get a lot of stick too for not updating their Xperia line, but the more recent ones at least got kind-of-official support for unlocking long before HTC's 2011 models.
To be blunt, I think all the manufacturers are as bad as each other when it comes to unlocking and official updates; which is why my next phone will almost certainly be a Nexus.

I'm not mad because they said "YES" I'm upset, because they have mentioned in the pass that it would be coming out in October for AT&T HTC One X and we are still waiting. I already know that it will come out eventually, but I was just trying to get an ETA and the info I was provided is not accurate nor an estimate.
I Agree with the post above that they are delaying this due to One X+ being released with Jelly Bean already and being a selling point. Why is everyone so grumpy about the post i'm just sharing information with the forum. I'm sure there are plenty of people out there that are wondering as well.
I read on a site that they did start rolling out the Jelly Bean update to the HTC in Taiwan. Check this article out, thanks.

cuz the one x was teh flagship... not the xl. ofc they updated the one x.
USA hardware is different than Taiwan hardware. The update will need kernel changes, who knows, maybe for each carrier.
Plus, thanks to Apple and the screwed up court decision, our basic Sense apps are also different.
You can't take the Taiwan rom, change languages, and be ready to distribute.
Being ready elsewhere means that they've engaged in the commitment.
Being ready here will take longer. Sucks, yeah, but later isn't never.
And if they hadn't laid people off after Apple caused a nice stock scare, maybe we would all have it by now.
I know who I'm disgusted with, and in the meantime, there are many interesting and fun roms for those who like to root while we wait.

The internals are not even similar for the one x and one xl

Yeah I guess your right, but I left CM10 came back to stop, because battery life is much better and I can't give up the Stock HTX ONE X camera. I know the 4.2 camera is not bad, however it still not way near as good as the one x native camera.

Software is definitely different in the US as well, it's hamstrung by app associations. Took devs a while to crack that after the last release.

Don't know if ViperX works for you, or if they have a variant for you yet. I like Viper4G (Sprint), it's pretty good.

Here's a post from another forum when we had our first fix, it covers the patent itself -
EarlyMon at AF said:
This is Patent US5946647 - System and method for performing an action on a structure in computer ... - Google Patents
A system and method causes a computer to detect and perform actions on structures identified in computer data. The system provides an analyzer server, an application program interface, a user interface and an action processor. The analyzer server receives from an application running concurrently data having recognizable structures, uses a pattern analysis unit, such as a parser or fast string search function, to detect structures in the data, and links relevant actions to the detected structures. The application program interface communicates with the application running concurrently, and transmits relevant information to the user interface. Thus, the user interface can present and enable selection of the detected structures, and upon selection of a detected structure, present the linked candidate actions. Upon selection of an action, the action processor performs the action on the detected structure.

This bs patent was applied for in 1996 and not granted until the dot-com, hog-wild, patent-changing days - it was granted in 1999.
It is widely known to be violated by Microsoft's right-click on content, something widely done before the patent was even applied for.
In this case - you get a youtube link by text - open with browser or youtube app - that's covered by the last two sentences of the quote above, in fact, it's covered exactly.
Anyway - if you want the fix, this is it, there are many debates on Apple/HTC patents in the Lounge and the Android Lounge and it's pretty much all the same - Apple sucks (true), the patent laws are now broken (true), Apple has known about this Sense violation for a long time (true), others are violating this so-called invention and haven't been sued yet (true), etc etc etc etc.
This is the fix for the problems of not having links show up as links in email and not getting selection for browser vs Maps or browser vs YouTube or browser vs Play Store in text messages or web pages, etc.

Here is a post from elsewhere on XDA. Your takeaway - the top picture is how HTC Mail should work and does work in the rest of the world - the bottom picture is how Mail works in the USA when presented with web link in plain text. Notice that the normal action is to detect the url and make a link.

Also, I forwarded this to a Gmail account. When read with Mail, no links. When read with Gmail, the links appeared. So Gmail will automagically create links on outgoing and incoming.

That's been removed. Along with other free-form app associations.
So we're clear - the behavior I'm describing is still the default on Gmail on your phone and in many places on your Windows PC.
It was prior art. Apple did not invent it. Yet, thanks to our messed up patent system, they got a patent on this.
Apple went after HTC on this a few years ago - no one else, just HTC.
In a decision that surprised even the judge's own clerks, in the 4th quarter of last year, Apple won a suit against HTC granting an injunction against distribution of the software. The market panicked, the internet was full of "proof" that HTC stole, consumers panicked thinking that they'd no longer get support and HTC's meteoric sales climb in 2011 came to an abrupt halt. Investors panicked. HTC earnings dropped.
The blogosphere, with all of the intelligence of brain-damaged monkeys, let loose with their HTC hate and said that the sales drop-off was a clear indication that everyone hated the people-centric Sense features (by then, adopted wholesale by Google for for ICS and the same bloggers praised it as a revolutionary breakthrough while picking lice from one another) and that's why HTC was a failure.
Newcomers to Android believed it and the myth was propagated until Mobile World Congress in Barcelona 2012 where the One X and Sense 4.0 was unveiled. Banana-eaters fell over themselves reporting on the new "light-weight" Sense (that is the same size at Sense 3.5) as a victory for monkeys with keyboards. HTC, not stupid, agreed with the blogosphere.
The One X train left the station, full steam ahead.
Enter Apple, they petitioned the courts again, not satisified that HTC was really following court orders. HTC clearly was, but that never stops a good shark-lawyer.
Next up - May of this year and HTC phones are held in quarantine by the US Customs Bureau while they checked again. Release dates were missed and re-scheduled for several HTC models (including the X), buyers got scared again - in no small part to the monkeys, now fully lobotomized, telling people that the USA might never see an HTC One X. Investors went from panic to bed-wetting of tidal proportions, and the head of HTC had to get help from the Prime Minister of Taiwan to curb the panic.
Oh, and then it turned out the phones were fine and got shipped. Full of hype, black eyes and lies but shipped and those of us who care about what we like, liked the One X and we bought them.
But - for that reason - basic Sense apps like Mail, Messaging, Calendar - do not perform the same stock in the USA as they did earlier this year and as they still do everywhere else in the world.
HTC first put in a simple on/off switch. Turn in one way, it's Sense. Turn it the other, it's hamstrung Sense. Easy to change. So easy that Apple complained again and with the Android 4.04 release, the latest Sense apps are _very_ different than before and you can't change it with an on/off switch.
There is a root mod to fix it in the Sprint community, called #Fapple, I'd guess it's out there for the One XL by now, but I'd have to check.
PS - The #Fapple pictures above were during debugging and aren't final the solution, but they show the point well enough.
TL/DR version - not HTC's fault that they have to make more than one version of things to work with JellyBean, and that adds time.
Honestly I'm just praying we see something by early Q1 of 2013.

I hope so, too.
I'm hoping that the Droid DNA (Verizon variant of the J Butterfly, the new breed) and their exclusivity with VZW will give us breathing room before their new product prep and announcements at MWC 2012, and that breathing time will be used for us.
The old HTC was first on the block with updates, in the past year or so, many on the forums have charged that they drive the latest to new buyers before supporting old ones.
If we see the update soon enough, that will show me that they're back to their old ways.
Hope so!

[Petition] Fight to keep the HTC One S getting updates

First off, yes I know this is not the HTC One S forums. Let me explain my reasoning for posting this here
The HTC One S is part of our family of devices (which includes this device, the One S, Evo 4G LTE, and Incredible 4G LTE). Although it doesnt matter much in terms of Sense development, for AOSP development, this family of devices is the family that we share many files with, including kernel source releases and other files which make up the ROM such as proprietary files.
For AOSP devices, these files are essential in keeping our device up to date and running on the latest Android version. These files from Sense such as proprietary files are essential in this. Generally speaking, the latest version of these files is used in AOSP ROMs.
If the One S is kept alive, it will offer another device that we can grab these files from, if HTC decides to kill off our device and keep theirs, or visa versa. If they release 4.2.2 Sense for the One S first, then we can use those files from their release in ours. So if their device is kept alive, ours can be greatly affected by it as well.
tl;dr Their situation affects our device too, so sign this petition to help show HTC that the community wants the device to be supported.
Here is the petition: http://www.change.org/petitions/htc-give-the-one-s-continued-support-like-the-one-x
P.S. to anyone who thinks that these petitions do nothing, I will point to the Desire HD (I believe? one of the desires) that had so much community support that HTC ended up releasing a firmware update for it through RUU to ICS specifically for developers and modders. HTC is listening.

the sensation didn't get jellybean, but the galaxy s2 did.
however, the successor to the sensation (one s) not getting jellybean is beyond ridiculous.
((EDIT: ignore mistake, explained in next post))
I had a HTC Aria, HTC Inspire and an One X. The lack of support is a known issue with HTC. People will buy them no matter what. I think I'm done with them though. The build quality is phenomenal and on par with Moto I think (who also sucks at continuing updates). I am probably getting the Note 3 because Samsung is exceptional at continuing updates to their phones. And the 3gbs of ram is another huge factor
I don't hate HTC but I don't want to rely solely on XDA for my updates.

The One S has Jelly Bean, just not the latest version. In fact, 4.1 was released last July. My girlfriend and I didn't get it from Vodafone until December 25, and I've read that T-Mobile US users didn't get it until recently! That's dreadful, especially for a relatively new device like this.
I hope if the device is continued to be updated that the updates come a little quicker!

oops, my bad, by updates, I also meant getting a UI update...
and even though the sensation did somewhat badly, at least it got a major update (2.3.4 to 4.0.3), and a newer version of sense (although not the lastest version available which was stupid!!)

You can blame HTC's 18-month update policy for that. Also something that they don't stick to, and now they're bringing out crappy devices like the Desire 200 to hopefully make up the revenue loss.
When will HTC realize that releasing 20 phones per year is a bad concept? Update the phones you've already released, dammit!

HTC HTC ONE S - No Android 4.2.2 and Sense 5.0 Updates

This is info what I get from HTC when I asked (I asked many times):
One S is currently no plan for update to Android4.2.2 with Sense5.0,
It will maintain the existing version of Android and Sense,
However, please be assured that we still plan update camera and Beats Audio sound optimization for One S.
To provide a good experience to every consumer.
So we get updates for Camera and Beats Audio - Not exactly what was promised earlier by HTC but this what we get for a phone which was Announced less than 2 years ago (February 2012).
We are the lucky ones
You mean less than 18 months since the phone was actually made available. IMHO announcement date is a PR trick for companies. No point if you can't actually buy the phone.
i've asked in another thread but will ask here as well. any custom roms for this and has the zoe app? any help would be great. i used zen but no zoe app and only 4.2.1
thanks
I purely believe you'll get 4.2.2 with no overlay improvements

If you want to know where I got the info for no updates, I got that from HTC. I know there are lots of sites wondering update or no update and giving information one way or the other. So I asked directly from HTC and that was the answer: no updates for HTC ONE S. Only camera and BeatsAudio. Just cosmetics updates to keep us "happy". Not so much SENSE what they are doing

Things like that will make HTC disappear. They don't understand that the vocal customers who want an update, are the most loyal customers. They are also the ones that family and friends ask about purchase advice for new phone. I won't be recommending HTC to anyone.
