CM10...
If you like a stable, smooth experience, then CM10 is for you. If you like unlimited customizations and pink, sparkly unicorns all over your phone, the AOKP is the way to go. If you enjoy using a tablet interface on a screen much too small for it, then Paranoid is your answer. I myself prefer CM10 but your opinion may differ
i will reply to this question the way i reply to all of them
try them on your on, there are not that many. every ones opinion varies anyway
this is why you rooted or will root--to experiment--
sorry for being a dork about it just my opinion--
and to answer your question, can't believe i am--just flashed latest nightly--perfect--

Is there any AOSP 4.1 rom out there with wifi tethering working on black screen?
That would definitely be my favorite one, tried a few, went back to 4.0.4 cause of tethering!
For speed and battery life, I would recommend baked black bean, and then add the CPU editor init.d. script and set it to battery and performance. By far the most responsive and least battery drain.
I also use the justunbean inverted gapps. Just tryina squeeze all the battery I can out of this lol

As long as you're using baseband 1.06 it works perfectly. If you want to use 1.08, changing the build.prop works, you can find the edited values in the aokp thread in the op.
If that doesn't work you can use this

Just got my mom this phone and i got the rooting bug, lol.
She's basically just using it for web browsing, text messaging, and taking pics.
What's the best rom out there for efficiency? I want to take off all the sprint bloat & get some better battery life.
Would also like a rom i can add themes to.
You may consider the combo in my signature.
Works well on me.
Very stable with no reboots.
It has the 4G version as well unless I'm mistaken.
My usage is similar to your mom, though.
No gaming at all.
As for theming, I don't know if this ROM can be themed or not as I just like the way it is.

Slim ICS has what ur looking for...
Good luck
Vs Nexus S 4G
Probably want to keep it stock and simple, if you are going to root and theme it it'll make it more frustrating. In fact, setting up for other people, I'll enable root for certain apps and then set it automatically deny.
I have the perfect combination for you:
Kang CM7: http://fitsnugly.euroskank.com/gigglebread/?id=crespo
Google Apps: http://goo-inside.me/gapps
Stock Launcher: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11421338&postcount=3

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.achep.theme.sense
CM9 Nightly 20120310 is the best until now from ICS roms
Can we update this?
After so long, i was finally able to root. Well, not able..but i got lazy and didn't bother with it.
This one is super basic and I think the best for the Nexus S. Fast, stable, and great battery life, 1%/h during night with wifi on

So I have been on Beans for a while and I love it since it is tw with a aosp touch and feel but lately I have been noticing in the developmental thread that there are now far more 4.2 roms out there. I know that aosp has been pretty damn buggy just a month or so back but are they now stable? or dare I say it almost daily driver worthy? Im actually in the process of downloading the latest liquid smooth rom to check it out and I cant wait to see the results.
I've tried all the 4.2 ROMs and the only one where everything works on my phone; GPS, MMS, call volume etc, is mastamoons build. I know ROMs work different on everyone's phone though.

I think that most of them are stable in the sense that they can be daily drivers depending on what features you need.
All of them except for baked black bean and mastamoons unofficial builds use a new audio stack that breaks Bluetooth audio streaming.
All of them have issues with encrypted Wi-Fi tethering.
I've been using the baked ROM, it's awesome. Haven't had any random crashes, audio and GPS work well, and data is pretty good for the most part

Mastamoon's 1/18 build of CM works great. It's the only 4.2 ROM I can find with functioning bluetooth.
Hey everyone, been lurking mostly and first time posting. I'm not one for having the best newest rom. I am looking for something that can be my daily driver. Currently I'm using cm10.0 12/16 build lol because anything I've ever tried has been really buggy. I'm looking for anything Smoother, reliable and better battery.

I reccommend stock 4.1.2 leak with my MODS
if you want stock touchwiz newest with MODs..
if you want a 4.1.1/4.1.2 AOSP ROM, I personally suggest ParanoidAndroid 2.5.6
and if you want AOSP 4.2 I'd would sugggest BAMF Paradigmn, but that isn't public yet, so my next is Carbon ROM is nice, Slim is great, and Eclipse is awesome if you want a nice dark theme and a great ROM..
I personally use stock kernel on touchwiz, and whatever comes in the ROMs for AOSP.
Thanks for the recommendation guys. I'm not a big fan of touch wiz and much prefer aosp.

I honestly think this is your best bet. Though the AOSP roms are snappy and simple, there are still way too many bugs. I'm on CleanRom as well and it's very smooth with virtually no bugs. You can even theme your phone to resemble AOSP while still having the luxury of using all the addons touchwiz has to offer.

As I said above this ROM also has virtually no bugs and is very nicely put together. If you do in fact go with clean however, don't put a launcher on it because it ruins the purpose of a custom rom.

I don't normally use a pattern lock, but I just set one up and it seemed to work fine for me. I am using a CM10.1 unofficial that I've repo-sync'd and built myself this morning. I added a few cherry-picks, but they shouldn't have directly affected that.

Not sure if this is the right forum to ask this, but I figured it was best as this is a Q/A/help type of question. I have a vzw gs3, and played with a couple of roms a while back, but ended up going back to stock. Lately I've been reading about PA, and would like to try it out, but I'm confused as to what I need to download. If I click on the 'ROMS' link above, then I see a post that leads to alpha and beta versions of PA, but if I go into the 'Original Android Development' sub forum, I see a completely different set of options. So, which is the right one to use? Does anyone know how battery life is on an AOSP rom vs. stock?

How's the battery life? currently on stock and if i'm not at work, i can get almost 2 days between charges. On a normal day, I unplug at 6:30am and by 10:30pm am usually around 35-45%.

Yes, that is a benefit of being rooted. I do tend to have issues when going back to my nandroid - I have to re-setup switftkey and a few other apps. It's odd, but not a big deal. I did try them both over the weekend, and I liked PA better than PAC, but had issues with both that made me go back to stock for now. Some things were functionality issues - the AOSP calendar doesn't show the event when on month view, I couldn't get my custom notification sounds to work or my alarm sound (this is a biggie as I use my phone to wake me up every morning, and I've found that I tend to sleep through most alarm sounds, but have the Piezzo alarm sound from my droid x and that wakes me up right away).
Any suggestions on what I could try? I really liked how fast my phone was after having flashed to something else, but the calendar, alarm sound and notification sounds are a necessity for me. I also had issues with adding my work email to it as well - I could add the account, but it would never download my email, nor sync my calendar - also deal breakers for me.
Thanks
