[Q] Not sure where to post this - re, ParanoidAndroid Rom - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Not sure if this is the right forum to ask this, but I figured it was best as this is a Q/A/help type of question. I have a vzw gs3, and played with a couple of roms a while back, but ended up going back to stock. Lately I've been reading about PA, and would like to try it out, but I'm confused as to what I need to download. If I click on the 'ROMS' link above, then I see a post that leads to alpha and beta versions of PA, but if I go into the 'Original Android Development' sub forum, I see a completely different set of options. So, which is the right one to use? Does anyone know how battery life is on an AOSP rom vs. stock?
Thanks,

How's the battery life? currently on stock and if i'm not at work, i can get almost 2 days between charges. On a normal day, I unplug at 6:30am and by 10:30pm am usually around 35-45%.
I wasn't a fan of AOKP; how much of that is integrated into it?
Thanks,

Its basically a lot of the tweaks from AOKP, and the tweaks from PA all built on cm. Its a lot, but in a way that's not like "oh this is just AOKP with hybrid"

The battery life for me is OK. I can get 28 to 30 hours medium usage and I use greenify. Honestly it is one best ROMs I have been on...and I've flashed a lot

Yes, that is a benefit of being rooted. I do tend to have issues when going back to my nandroid - I have to re-setup switftkey and a few other apps. It's odd, but not a big deal. I did try them both over the weekend, and I liked PA better than PAC, but had issues with both that made me go back to stock for now. Some things were functionality issues - the AOSP calendar doesn't show the event when on month view, I couldn't get my custom notification sounds to work or my alarm sound (this is a biggie as I use my phone to wake me up every morning, and I've found that I tend to sleep through most alarm sounds, but have the Piezzo alarm sound from my droid x and that wakes me up right away).
Any suggestions on what I could try? I really liked how fast my phone was after having flashed to something else, but the calendar, alarm sound and notification sounds are a necessity for me. I also had issues with adding my work email to it as well - I could add the account, but it would never download my email, nor sync my calendar - also deal breakers for me.
Thanks

ICS bug on Galaxy S i9000

So I searched around and couldn't find anything about this Bug in most ICS roms that I used, the bug is that the status bar's clock keeps freezing , when you lock the screen the time will say 9:30pm but the status bar (and home screen clock widget) will show a frozen time, like 9:15... now the only way to fix it temporarily is reboot but I need a permanent fix, does anybody know anything about this bug?
My rom currently is Dark Knight 5.5
Kernel : Devil 2_7.9 bm
Would appreciate your help

Try to flash it again, if that don't works, almost all ICS roms are beta, so you have to deal with it, or go back to gingerbread.

So as I said, It happens in many ics roms that I used, team icsgs rc1-4.2, cm9,cyantablet, dark knight 1-5.5...and its not the kernel for sure because I switched to devil's kernel recently.
Now I can deal with it but it once froze while I slept and my alarm won't turn on...I woke 3 hours late to school...

Then there are no permanent fixes, everything is beta. But most problems are with camera and youtube. Even my gio don't have bugs like you. search for the most stable rom, take the risk, or go back to cm7

Dark knight 5.5 is fairly stable , and I think I fixed it , because ics has this option to keep background processes and always allowed only 3 processes so maybe the clock couldnt work, I'm all day on normal and I didn't experience the bug yet

Did you enable 'kill app back button' in developer options? I once got the same problem with Galaxy Note with CM9 and PAv0.2. Problem gone after disabling this long press back to kill option. I suspect some background tasks are killed accidentally with back button. Hope this help.

well all this cm7.0.2 and they are all the same lol well the OS itself so you can see their features and it'll be the same the only thing that changes from phone to phone is the proprietary parts and the kernel
so update guys i fixed the call issue but that fix breaks wifi so i might release a wifi-less build and have named cm7 as alpha for now cus of wifi
Edit:

Finally got all set up and ran this since the update, tried to look at everything performance wise. There is a short list of minor issues, most of them really don't effect my day to day usage.
Runs fantastic with zero force closes and great screen resolution
Battery holds up well....wi-fi doesn't sleep.....will eat up battery life if not monitored. I manually disable GPS as well out of habit.
No haptic feedback but hey....I don't use it. tried every control option and fixed permissions.
SD card issue is likely formatting. Doesn't like my 64gb card but my 32gb card is fine. Will attempt to reformat and advise
Native music players won't run FLAC files. Neither will google play. Been using Jet Audio FLAC works great so no major problem.
Installed Beats audio which works very well.
DSP....no issues no force closes...seems top improve call quality using the speaker setting to boost the high end...
Set up V6 super charger.....results unclear....may be effecting battery life. Will advise.
All programs seem to run normally, calendar, texting etc.
You have KANGED well!

Eh! And *sigh*
Haptic feedback is a known issue that I mentioned before.
As for wifi have u checked settings to see if its set to sleep when screen is off?
Never played flac files.
As for supercharger script if its not included in the rom and you add on top I won't troubleshoot as idk what problems those scripts cause. So everything rom wise I will but if you add other things/mods I won't
And camera is a hard issue most cm7 first builds come with dozens of errors this one only has 2, vibration(which I fixed already) and camera

Been crack flashing since day one. Probably never had a perfect ROM yet....isn't that why we're all here? Since there isn't many posts I thought I'd share a little. I think there is more than one developer hyping the V6 out there. I was interested in seeing if it would help...if not I'll reload.
You know what they say....those who can't develop ...DONATE (Everybody should)
Yes Wi -Fi ....will try something to see if I can get it working right.
Camera I didn't mention .....it's not working by the way........
FLAC....do you love music? There is a lot most people don't know about FLAC....I'll leave you with this since you're probably mad at me./
Typical AAC (Apple Audio file) 192kb maybe 256kb compressed and lossy
My FLACS....Uncompressed 1411kb

There are tons of features in MIUI besides the launcher, I'd suggest you take a look at http://en.miui.com/
Just off the top of my head, things MIUI has that no other rom can match - theming, backup/restore, contacts/sms/dialer, speed, the music player, toggles etc.
I used to swear by MIUI when I had my Evo 4G, by far the most unique and best rom on Android, it replaces so many apps you need to install. I just hope it becomes stable for ICS/JB soon.

So far I'm finding this miui ROM has better 4g data capabilities than any cm ROM that I've tried. I've tested numerous ROMs in an area that has shifting 3/4g and this miui build has the same 4g strength as my Beans tw ROM.

I would love to know which MIUI rom that y'all are using that has such good data switching because the ones ive used are OK but no where near as good as Liquid.

CM10...
If you like a stable, smooth experience, then CM10 is for you. If you like unlimited customizations and pink, sparkly unicorns all over your phone, the AOKP is the way to go. If you enjoy using a tablet interface on a screen much too small for it, then Paranoid is your answer. I myself prefer CM10 but your opinion may differ
i will reply to this question the way i reply to all of them
try them on your on, there are not that many. every ones opinion varies anyway

That would definitely be my favorite one, tried a few, went back to 4.0.4 cause of tethering!
For speed and battery life, I would recommend baked black bean, and then add the CPU editor init.d. script and set it to battery and performance. By far the most responsive and least battery drain.
I also use the justunbean inverted gapps. Just tryina squeeze all the battery I can out of this lol

As long as you're using baseband 1.06 it works perfectly. If you want to use 1.08, changing the build.prop works, you can find the edited values in the aokp thread in the op.

As requested by OP, as no further support is planned."

Senseless???

It was really a accident on my part, I wanted it removed but at the time I'd just wokeup. I couldve just used the same thread:silly:
Well so far so good. Just got setup and I am going to let it settle in for a day to see battery drain .
I like this idea of a "clean" ROM to tweak my way.

Unable to add e-mail accounts other than from installed apps. Need to add corporate account. Any ideas? Otherwise, good so far.

Well the Rom is (so far) bugles. If you want a bunch of Google stuff this is not your first choice. I like to have just enough to get by. The battery is my first priority.

You will need maps if you use the light Gapes. Otherwise you will run into some system nagging for location.

ADDONS ARE UP
Zpik, what is your opinion of
( PurePerformances™X_Stock.1.4)? I have much better experience of far and battery life is markedly better also.
I'm worried that this add-on will mess with the Rom after a while. So far it's vary good.

nah it won't, but pure performance is garbage for speed tweaks, etc. I recommend crossbreader
I knew the difference, but speed tweaks usually equals battery drain.. Or am I mistaken?
