[Q] =====WARNING==== - Samsung Infuse 4G

====WARNING====
This is a short but tragic love story between a man and his Infuse.
====WARNING====
So I had my Infuse for about a year now. Got it free with AT&T upgrade. (I was still new to contracts and didn't realize they would add another year to my contract, the #^@*#&#*#s.) ...I would have been done with them by now.
Anyway, love the phone. No problems, had a case that I bought for it same day that goes great with it.
This summer, it started to lag on me and give me several problems. Didn't take it as nothing. Blamed myself for being the klutz I am and dropping it so much.
Was still on Froyo and realized I can upgrade to Gingerbread, so I did.
Still lag plus I just didn't like Gingerbread.
So, I have been to XDA forums before, but only to refer other people about their phones or minor troubleshooting for my own.
Saw that there was a dedicated forum for Samsung Infuse, made a couple posts and got my phone rooted, (Thanks much guys.)
So here I am, running Entropy's unofficial CM9, and damn, the phone feels brand new. Fell in love all over again.
I even took off the case and was about to put on a new screen protector. But phone felt so brand new and shiny...lol shiny....anyway.
I dropped it/her/it.
But I've dropped it so many times, so what.
Picked it up, headed to work, about to use it to send a message and bam, there is a crack.
Only sign of life is that it lights up at the bottom where the buttons are.
Guess I shouldn't have taken off the case.
Would have probably shed some tears if I wasn't out in public lol.
But I had faith I could fix it/her.
Ordered a glass repair kit for cheap from ebay without any research.
It's taking awhile so I got impatient and did some research and realized I need the LCD repair kit instead and that's pretty expensive and parts for the Infuse are rare so makes sense.
So, even though, I'm still hoping that, the glass repair I ordered includes it but maybe not, since it was $12.
Anyway, if you get through all this crap ^^^, I got a question for you.
Should I buy another Infuse or get the Note or the S III?
Has to be Samsung.

Infuse is awesome and as long as my phone is working I am not trading. If money isn't a problem I would get the s3 or note 2. If money is a problem then I don't think you can go wrong with another infuse.

samsung will repair it. it'll cost a bit and take time but its probably the best way to go if you want to keep it. the screen replacements I've found are all from china and I had a bad experience with them. others have had issues with even insurance repairs. so id leave screen replacements to Samsung because its cheaper than buying one through china and most of the ones on the market seem to have a good chance of being defective.

Dropped My G Tab ... For a Second Time

I just dropped my G Tab for the second time ... and its still alive. Being somewhat a fumble fingers I have accidently dropped my G Tab from a table of three feet or more since I bought it at the end of November. No visible harm externally or internally.
The build quality of this tablet truly impresses me.
Gotta quit dropping it though before it runs out of lives.

That's my fear everyday. Nice to know it has a few lives to it...
As a fellow klutz I am very glad to hear this.
Not that I am going to try it on purpose, but just in case it happens I hope to not be devastated.

Bought my Gtab on Black Friday. Been keeping it updated with TnT Lite, love this device.
A week ago, I bumped it off the counter onto the floor. It landed on a rug, edge-on. From that point, the lower third of the screen (when held in portrait mode) became increasingly unresponsive. I cannot describe the sick feeling this gave me (I have a lot of gadgets, but dont normally get so attached to them).
I searched for my receipt (unsuccessfully), but had the original box and all materials. I called the Sears store I bought it from and talked to the sales lead in Electronics. I simply told him I was having screen issues but didnt have my receipt. Told him I love the device and didnt want my money back, but asked (since it was still within 30 days) if there was some way I could exchange it for a new one....
He said he'd be happy to exchange it. I took it in and was back out with a new one in less than 5 minutes, no questions asked. I even got $20 refunded since the price had dropped. I also picked up the Viewsonic GTab Case for $5.99 (a surprise for the money, since its a decent CaseLogic case).
So.. yes, a fall CAN kill your Gtab, but I do think it's a well made device for the price... heck, a 4 foot fall will destroy most electronic gadgets.
So.. now I absolutely baby this thing... it stays in the case when not in use.
Moral: Be careful with it as you would any other $400 device.

That's exactly why I finally sprung for a 3rd party warranty a device... cover accidental damage(extra charge) as well for 3y... squaretrade.
FBPREVIEW (MIGHT) still get you 30% off... c. $65 total.
(I just know that I'll drop and break the gTab at some point, since I was keeping it I decided that I had better do something about getting a better warranty...)
You're supposed to buy this w/in 30d of purchase, but they might let you slide a little. Also as a caveat, I've heard of squaretrade before and have heard good things about them, but beyond that this is my first experience with them and I have yet to make a claim...

Good information to share with everyone.
I decided against purchasing a warranty because early on I read that assessories for the gtab will be available in early-to-mid Demember. I must be on a different calendar... I'm looking for a fold cover similar to the one they have for that other major brand we don't mention on this forum. I keep holding my breath, but I think I'll be looking at one of the covers available now for temporary use.

Go check out the accessories forum. It looks like Kindle DX cases fit OK, but people seem to be getting random color v. what they ordered, plus one guy said that he couldn't get it to fit right.
Another guy found a Solo case @ Staples for $20 that looked lit it fit well. He posted a video... DX people just had some pix...
Well, I've never bothered w/warranties for my notebooks, but I decided that I had better with the gTab as I find it a bit unwieldly v. a 7", and I've seen several posts before about people who dropped their Pandigital Novels and Augen Gentouches and broke their screens. I was just worried that this one being larger it might be MUCH easier to damage the screen...
Dropped once from 3 feet onto carpet. Survived! Need to buy case ASAP. Need to protect this puppy.

[Q] Black Tie Program on Broken Inspire

Ok so heres my situation... I bought the inspire from best buy about 20 days ago on an upgrade, I decided to not get their black tie plan because I did not cause any physical damage to my old captivate so I thought I would be alright to pass on it this time. Until today that is... I had the phone in my back pocket and when I sat down I must have applied some extra pressure to the front and in result the screen in mostly shattered.
So I have decided to come to you guys in search for a few solutions. I noticed that you can add the black tie on up to 30 days from the purchase of your phone but I am doubting whether or not I could convince them to put it on my phone even though the phone is already broken but I was wondering if anyone here has ever had any luck getting this plan on after the damage had been done?
I would hate to think the best buy would really be so ignorant as to make me keep a phone with a shattered screen for the remaining 2 years that is on my contract (granted it is my fault it broke), I would like to think they would help someone in my position out to keep me happy and wanting to return back to their stores.
If there is no chance for this, then what would you guys recommend I do to get this fixed for as little cost as possible.
THANKS!
I just took a captivate that wouldn't turn on and they replaced it with an inspire. So I think they're pretty good about exchanging phones. Unless I just got lucky haha

With a phone that unquestionably has suffered physical damage, I don't think it's reasonable to expect them to go that far in wanting to keep their customers happy.
Unless this "black tie" thing pretty much effectively says "sure, throw your phone off a cliff, drive over it with a semi, we want you happy, so we'll keep giving you phones," then I wouldn't get your hopes up.
But like Matt said, you got nothin' to lose and everything to gain at this point...
You never know what they will do. In December I upgraded to an Aria for $0.01, I did get the black tie coverage. There was a slight issue with the earspeaker and I took it somewhere local so I wouldn't be without my phone for a matter of weeks. Needles to say, that was a mistake. The repair place screwed it up. I took it to best buy and long story short, after sending it off for repair 4 times they have me an Inspire.
I think it is a very good thing to get to know the ppl that work in mobile and not be one of those customers they hate to see come into the store. They all knew me by my first name.lol They have me my choice of phones and I chose the Inspire and have never looked back!
BB its usually quite eager to please the customer, they know if you are happy with their mobile dept. you may buy your next tv there also.

Well, there's a teeny tiny bit of difference between a bad ear speaker and a "mostly shattered" screen, but, who knows...
brick it ..... That is the only solution O.O. I remember while back best buy told me if I bought their protection plan, I could walk out side drive my car over my phone bring it back in and get a new one/ fixed, never tested it though.
Obviously don't buy the Black Tie plan and then immediately whip the phone out of your pocket.... If it was me, I'd take the receipt in and say that I decided to go with the black tie plan after all. Then I'd take it in the next day, or the day after that. It might still look suspicious, but not as.
I took the black tie protection for my laptop and TV. Laptop got its hdd replaced twice, without a question. He opened it, took the old one out, put in the new one, and gave the old one back to me.
In my opinion, its worth the trouble/hassle for 3 years.
Thanks for your help and suggestions guys, I will hopefully go up there tomorrow and basiclly beg thats what I get for not adding it on when I got the phone, just my luck. Btw, I wasnt trying to say that they owed it to anyone to replace it, I was just saying would be a kind gesture to someone, who messed up. All they would have to do is change the screen then sell it refurbished for about 50dollars less than a new one.
Also, why do they allow you to add the black tie within the first 30 days but your excluded if you have already broken it then your not allowed to have it anymore. Just my thoughts on it, please pardon my ramblings..
Thanks again for taking the time to respond though!

Well that's actually encouraging for the op, then. Unless of course they were exaggerating for purposes of selling the program.
I guess the only thing that would concern me is the amount of time the op takes between signing up for the program, and "cashing" in on it, so to speak.
I also don't know if they would require physical inspection of the phone when signing up, if done after the initial sale, when of course the brand new phone is there in front of them...
Just a quick update, I took it in today and they were very kind and helping and because I had the protection plan on my old phone they said they could add it back and and say that the person who sold me the new phone had forgotten to transfer the plan to the new phone.
They told me to wait 2-3 before I bring it back in for repairs because they are usually not allowed to do this to an already broken phone but the manager gave the approval.
Just thought that I would poke back so anyone in this situation in the future will have a bit of hope. And that this is another reason why I continue to get my phones at best buy... great customer service (most of the time) and a protection plan that is too good to pass up.

Congrats. Great news for you.
Try not to shatter the screen on the next one, will ya?
And thanks for posting back. It's always good to hear how these things play out.
Put it this way its like buying a car with out "protection" and just that one day after the 30 days you run into a wall.. Take the car back and say hey I would like to get the protection plan. 99.99% they will ask let me see the car. Just as in example. Its a business. But I have the Black tie and the buy back on my phone because just in case I do drop it its cover, I had it on my last phone they sent it out for a repair go it back in like a week brand new could not even tell. Rather then going through att paying 5$s on it if it get stolen and having to pay a delectable. Heck I even got water on my phone and it was covered. So its worth it to me. On the phones think about its your MOBILE phone you have it on you all the time rather it be in your pocket in case or in case on a belt clip you always have that chance of missing your pocket and your phone slips. and BOOM broken screen. And then your like AHH!! FML! lol

I dont know about rapidly, but they have always been good about replacing my damaged phones. I went through 2 captivates (both took a swim) and they replaced them both, but the process took over 2 weeks. And on my last captivate they let me switch to the Inspire since the Captivate was out of stock.
Here is my update, I took it in a few days after I got the plan added and the guy who helped was very nice. They said that they were doing to do a rapid exchange (still not quite sure what that means but I think it is something along the lines of receiving a refurbished phone) and that they would get my "new" phone in within the next few days which is better than the 27 days I waited to receive my Captivate from being fixed a while back.
What sucks is that I am using my miserably slow iphone 3g until I get the new phone in.
One last question, if I am on the best buy reward zone silver level, does the extended 45 day return policy apply to cell phones? And if so, would I be able to exchange the refurbished inspire for the infuse and pay the difference even though they would have technically given me a refurbished phone?
Thanks!

What would you do?

So as many here know I have a perfect refurbed phone. It has been problem free for like 5 or six weeks. I mean awesomely so. I have however been screaming my head off because I never made it past 14 days four times. And ended up with a refurbed scratched (but otherwise perfect!) phone. Which really bothered me. It was the damn point. So I have the ear of an executive. But was pretty much resigned to the fact......but, After having another issue with billing, I'd contacted this same exec and after straightening out my issue, I restated my case for the umpteenth time. The Exec finally relented and will be sending me a new sealed one! I dont recommend anyone bother with this. It really was a lot of effort. A lot of letter writing and screaming and refusals. If this exec had not mistakenly actually told me (in error) that my fifth was going to be a new sealed unit, I likely not have gotten this. Company policy is very clear and pretty much will not allow it. (Just trying to prevent somone else from quoting my experience-I promise it is special circumstances. And well documented (which helped me make my case).
All that said, I'm to recieve this new sealed phone Post paid, then I'm to package and pay for postage to send back the refurbed G2X OR THEY WILL BILL ME $216.00 FOR THIS REFURBED g2X!
As the words came out of the execs mouth, I thought....$216.00 for a perfectly working G2X? Ummmmmmmm.
So I have a barely used problem free Sensation that I paid 129.00 for, a perfectly working refurbed G2X (w/ a sm. scratch and ghost armor covering it), and a sealed new version (updated w/ gb2.3.3) of the G2X.
My gut feeling? Pay the $216. and keep the refurbed G2X,and sell the new unopened G2X and the practically new Sensation.
What would you do?
I just bought a Sportster, so I could use the money. Got my eye on some nice chrome accessories...
Keep the refurbished. Sell the other 2

If you sign a two year contract...
I have found that karma can be a real *****. Do what you feel is right, yes T-mo has caused people grief with this phone and the returns. Stealing is just plain stealing.
How is paying the 216. stealing? They're giving me the opportunity to buy it by my reckoning. If I even remotely considered this immoral it would be an easy decision, I would return it. So again, how is this stealing? My question has more to do with the known vs the unknown, value vs whether it will be a good one. not any moral question. If I got two in the mail for instance, I would not have to ask what to do.
My question is whether I should just pay for the refurbed one because I know it is PERFECT....except for the scratch.
I'm very afraid, as has been posted here, of getting a sixth bad G2X. From what I've heard it is not certain that these newer ones are anything more than old ones with the new problematic update already installed.
Geesh, now you got me bummed out thinking this is an ethical issue. I honestly not for one second thought there was any question whether it would be dishonest. Anyone else care to comment? I'm not going to do anything based on anyones opinion. I'm confident of my high ground here. But it never occured to me that someone else might think me dishonest. I still think it is simply a sale if I pay the 216.00, not subterfuge.
As I said when I asked the question, it was more like which end result would you pick? For me, it is all about the known.....people are still experiencing screen bleed AND reboots with the new ones from what I've read. This is all uncharted territory for me. On one hand I felt ripped by not having a matching box and that damn scratch.....so now I got what I freakin' wanted but I'm afraid to even break the seal.....and start all over with a bad phone.
I don't think it's an ethical issue at all... 'cause you pay an honest $216 for the extra phone.
However, at this time I'm not sure $216 is a profitable wholesale price point.
How bad do you want an extra G2x?
I now right? I'm thinking it's surely worth $400. Maybe more if the update comes out. That's sealed. If I open it, it becomes used and if it has screen bleed or reboots then I can't in all conscience sell it for much more than trash LOL. Hence my dilemma. When I asked, I intended to keep the new one. It was the $216. that threw me off.

Got my phone wet. Question about insurance replacement.

So I got my phone completely submerged in water, we wont go into the details of the how or why, but anyways. I immediately took it all apart (I say apart really just took out the battery/sim and sd cards.) and put in a bag of rice for the rest of the day and all night. It turned on just fine however the touchscreen is totally unresponsive to any touch. So i filed a claim with Asurion and I will be getting a new replacement sometime tomorrow. My question is. Since the phone still turns on and I had it rooted with a custom rom installed is there any way for me to return it back to stock in its condition? Or should I even worry about it since it is a Insurance claim? Thanks in advance guys. Going to be much more careful from now on. On a side note I wish Lifeproof made a case for these phones! I mean come on its already out selling the iphone so you know there is a market for it. haha

Seido does offer a waterproof case for the S3. I have not tried it but thought you might be interested.

I do not work for/associated with Seido. I saw it looking at thier extended batteries.
If it's an insurance claim they don't care if it's rooted.

And I will for sure check the seidio case out! Thanks for posting that!
you should be able to use pc odin to wipe it and make it factory again. Does asurion want it back if so how much can you do to it. if you can i would take it all the way apart and clean the inside out with denatured alcohol and a can of air to try to blow out any water hiding under the ic... the touch screen might even return...
Asurion doesn't care what you do with your phone. You can return it with poop inside the phone and they wouldn't give a poop.

Just as a side note, I had a bionic, dropped it and broke the screen and replaced it via Assurion, then 8 months later I took a swim with my S3, they replaced that too but cancelled my policy.....

Ive replaced my old Nexus around 3 times because I kept dropping and breaking the screen and they never cancelled. If theyre taking $5+ every month they better not cancell my insurance. Plus i gotta pay around $100 a month
Correction: it's outselling a last-generation iPhone for 1 quarter near the end of it's product cycle. Don't expect it to happen again anytime soon.
Anyway, I agree. I wish lifeproof made a case for GS3.

Sorry your high ness! Should not have slammed apple in android forum. I apologize.
Yeah I made the mistake of telling them that I still had my phone. Didn't dawn on me to say i didn't and then try and fix the old one which i believe could probably be salvaged. Oh well. Im hoping to get the Seidio Obex case for Christmas. I do alot of fishing and have gotten several phones wet the last couple of years. Funny thing is all of my motorola's that got wet still worked just fine. A testament to motorola's build quality I guess.
Slam Apple all you want, I just like to have facts straight.

My little boy dropped a phone in the toilet a couple of years ago and they replaced it without even asking what happened. Maybe I just got lucky.

HELP! Dropped phone and screen is black

Little pissed right now. Why on earth did Samsung think that giving the GS3 the friction coefficient of ice was a good idea? I've never handled anything that was this slippery. I just got the darn thing Friday and I ordered the Ballistic Maxx case for it last week but of course I dropped it before it arrived.
The phone still works, I can hear everything, its just the screen is black except for the menu and back buttons at the bottom. I took the back cover off and saw that none of the screws have that VOID sticker on them... can I take this apart to see if its just a loose connection?
The phone is rooted so I can't return it and I can't see anything to revert it back to stock.
I cancelled insurance last year after I got the GNex when the Verizon guy told me the price increased to $15/mo, I would still have to pay $150 to replace the phone and I would get a refurbished phone, not a new one. That's not insurance, that's a scam.
Any ideas? I swear I watched video after video of torture tests for this thing. Threw it, dropped it, froze it in a freezer. Not one problem. They put it in a friggin washing machine for crying out loud. I drop it first time and the thing is screwed... its not even a WEEK old.

Still could Odin it back to stock if the only thing that's broken is the screen no?... Just bring it in, most people wouldn't know what rooted means.
That's why you keep the insurance. Its usally worth it. And the "friction coefficient" makes it look damn sexy. But since you don't hsve insurance. You may as well t ake it a part if you know how to safley do so.

Having the phone look sexy and then putting it in a Ballistic case is like dating a super model and only ever seeing her in a Burka! I'd rather date Albert Einstein's sister at this point. Ugh.
I took it apart and there was nothing loose. I swear... @#$*&&#@*$#@&*$#@*$&#@$*#@!$&[email protected]#$*
Well I guess I gambled and lost. Although I have saved over $200 on insurance since I cancelled, I guess that savings is gone. I might be better off with a Jitterbug.
Jim
You can send it to Samsung for repair. They will make you pay for repairs but they shouldn't care if it's rooted since your paying for the fix. Should cost less than $200 I would think?

I'll try Samsung... but I hope there's nothing else wrong.
i dropped mine once when my father grabbed something out my hand i had my phone in, i was lucky enough to have only a small scratch across the screen and some minor damaging to the bezel

if they have to replace the entire digitizer, it could cost well over 200 bucks since ordering just a digitizer and the glass, even through 3rd parties, still costs over 200 bucks, and that doesn't count their time to actually replace it
doesn't hurt to try though
That sucks. :-/ when you dropped it it must have hit at just the perfect angle to do that.
I don't have a case on mine but I'm super careful, I do worry about this happening though.

Believe Samsung charges $178. They make the screen so no markup. I pay $6.99/month for insurance from Verizon. Sounds like you got yours from Best Buy.

Was just going to post and say the same thing, although I thought it was $168 or something.
Samsung won't give two ****s that you're rooted. Call them. Seriously. Best bet.
Obviously, I wouldn't volunteer the information on the phone. Just tell them what happened and ask how much. Boom.

Thats just pathetic, don't blame Samsung for your mistake. You're the one that dropped the GS3 and it's not Samsung fault.
Thanks for the helpful replies. I got it through Verizon but was told the insurance increased on the higher end smartphones. Maybe it had something to do with my wife having an iPhone and all the phones had to have the same level insurance? I don't know. I used to pay $6.99 with my Dinc and then when I went to the GNex and my wife got the iPhone they told us it was more. Moot point now... but I'll ask again once I get this sorted.
As for blaming Samsung... I don't recall doing that. I simply questioned why they thought it was a good idea to make it so slippery... I've never handled anything like it. I'm well aware I dropped it.
Quick question on ODIN... All the instructions I have found about using ODIN require me to use the screen on the phone. Is it possible to use it completely from the PC end?
Odin doesn't really require the phone screen being used. I mean, you need to be in download mode but all that requires is pressing volume (up or down, can't remember, I think it's up) home button and power. Then wait like 30 seconds and press volume up to indicate you want to enter download mode.
And if you got it into download mode, you'll know because Odin will tell you that it recognizes the phone.
In the development section there's a "how to root and more" guide. Section 6 tells all about how to Odin. You can do it without being able to see the screen.

I just did the same ****ing thing man... Dropped that sumbitch and the screen is black.
I did take it apart.. I had hoped just a connector had popped off or something but no, it was broke. Didn't crack the glass, just broke the LCD.
They're super simple to take apart.
See if you can request the old parts if you return it to Samsung. Might be nice having the outside glass panel as a backup. Or resell?

My insurance is $7/mo
I have a $100 deductible.
Maybe u had bad info
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
Thanks for the info guys... I think I'll try Samsung see what they say. Oh and I checked with my local Verizon guy today he did say that the insurance was only $7 with the deductible. I don't know if the last guy was giving out bad info or maybe was trying to get me to sign up for some other insurance... who knows. I added the insurance back on it today.
I took the back off but I didn't see any loose connectors. I didn't venture any further to take the LCD apart. How do you know the LCD is cracked? Can you see it? My glass looks fine and the insides look OK... the screen is just black.
