HELP! Dropped phone and screen is black - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Little pissed right now. Why on earth did Samsung think that giving the GS3 the friction coefficient of ice was a good idea? I've never handled anything that was this slippery. I just got the darn thing Friday and I ordered the Ballistic Maxx case for it last week but of course I dropped it before it arrived.
The phone still works, I can hear everything, its just the screen is black except for the menu and back buttons at the bottom. I took the back cover off and saw that none of the screws have that VOID sticker on them... can I take this apart to see if its just a loose connection?
The phone is rooted so I can't return it and I can't see anything to revert it back to stock.
I cancelled insurance last year after I got the GNex when the Verizon guy told me the price increased to $15/mo, I would still have to pay $150 to replace the phone and I would get a refurbished phone, not a new one. That's not insurance, that's a scam.
Any ideas? I swear I watched video after video of torture tests for this thing. Threw it, dropped it, froze it in a freezer. Not one problem. They put it in a friggin washing machine for crying out loud. I drop it first time and the thing is screwed... its not even a WEEK old.

Still could Odin it back to stock if the only thing that's broken is the screen no?... Just bring it in, most people wouldn't know what rooted means.

That's why you keep the insurance. Its usally worth it. And the "friction coefficient" makes it look damn sexy. But since you don't hsve insurance. You may as well t ake it a part if you know how to safley do so.

Having the phone look sexy and then putting it in a Ballistic case is like dating a super model and only ever seeing her in a Burka! I'd rather date Albert Einstein's sister at this point. Ugh.
I took it apart and there was nothing loose. I swear... @#$*&&#@*$#@&*$#@*$&#@$*#@!$&[email protected]#$*
Well I guess I gambled and lost. Although I have saved over $200 on insurance since I cancelled, I guess that savings is gone. I might be better off with a Jitterbug.
Jim

You can send it to Samsung for repair. They will make you pay for repairs but they shouldn't care if it's rooted since your paying for the fix. Should cost less than $200 I would think?

I'll try Samsung... but I hope there's nothing else wrong.

i dropped mine once when my father grabbed something out my hand i had my phone in, i was lucky enough to have only a small scratch across the screen and some minor damaging to the bezel

if they have to replace the entire digitizer, it could cost well over 200 bucks since ordering just a digitizer and the glass, even through 3rd parties, still costs over 200 bucks, and that doesn't count their time to actually replace it
doesn't hurt to try though

That sucks. :-/ when you dropped it it must have hit at just the perfect angle to do that.
I don't have a case on mine but I'm super careful, I do worry about this happening though.

Believe Samsung charges $178. They make the screen so no markup. I pay $6.99/month for insurance from Verizon. Sounds like you got yours from Best Buy.

Was just going to post and say the same thing, although I thought it was $168 or something.
Samsung won't give two ****s that you're rooted. Call them. Seriously. Best bet.
Obviously, I wouldn't volunteer the information on the phone. Just tell them what happened and ask how much. Boom.

Thats just pathetic, don't blame Samsung for your mistake. You're the one that dropped the GS3 and it's not Samsung fault.

Thanks for the helpful replies. I got it through Verizon but was told the insurance increased on the higher end smartphones. Maybe it had something to do with my wife having an iPhone and all the phones had to have the same level insurance? I don't know. I used to pay $6.99 with my Dinc and then when I went to the GNex and my wife got the iPhone they told us it was more. Moot point now... but I'll ask again once I get this sorted.
As for blaming Samsung... I don't recall doing that. I simply questioned why they thought it was a good idea to make it so slippery... I've never handled anything like it. I'm well aware I dropped it.
Quick question on ODIN... All the instructions I have found about using ODIN require me to use the screen on the phone. Is it possible to use it completely from the PC end?

Odin doesn't really require the phone screen being used. I mean, you need to be in download mode but all that requires is pressing volume (up or down, can't remember, I think it's up) home button and power. Then wait like 30 seconds and press volume up to indicate you want to enter download mode.
And if you got it into download mode, you'll know because Odin will tell you that it recognizes the phone.
In the development section there's a "how to root and more" guide. Section 6 tells all about how to Odin. You can do it without being able to see the screen.

I just did the same ****ing thing man... Dropped that sumbitch and the screen is black.
I did take it apart.. I had hoped just a connector had popped off or something but no, it was broke. Didn't crack the glass, just broke the LCD.
They're super simple to take apart.
See if you can request the old parts if you return it to Samsung. Might be nice having the outside glass panel as a backup. Or resell?

My insurance is $7/mo
I have a $100 deductible.
Maybe u had bad info
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app

Thanks for the info guys... I think I'll try Samsung see what they say. Oh and I checked with my local Verizon guy today he did say that the insurance was only $7 with the deductible. I don't know if the last guy was giving out bad info or maybe was trying to get me to sign up for some other insurance... who knows. I added the insurance back on it today.

I took the back off but I didn't see any loose connectors. I didn't venture any further to take the LCD apart. How do you know the LCD is cracked? Can you see it? My glass looks fine and the insides look OK... the screen is just black.

Word to the wise....

So, if you ever take your kids to the pool, make sure you check your pockets. I discovered that after 45 minutes my phone was in my back pocket of my swim trunks. I let it dry in the sun until I got home, then did the rice thing.
As of now, when I put the battery in, the light on the back flashes on, the phone vibrates, but thats about it.
I called the insurance and have a new one on the way, but its $130 I really didnt have to spend.
I did the same except it was a party so I had to play it cool but the girl who's house I was at flipped out and felt terrible as I pulled it dripping out of my pocket and we went inside and put it in rice. A week later I took it out and it booted up but the digitizer was sadly dead

Yep. What was weird was that after the 45 minutes, there wasnt as much water pouring out as I thought, There wasnt even any under the screen like I would expect, but I would rather pay the money for a full functioning phone than one that onlu partially works. I just am glad its covered. I remember a time when no water damage was covered at all.

dont you just hate when that happens? its happened to me a couple of times, but thankfully my phones at the time were crap so it didnt matter that much to me. but yeah Im glad phones with water damage are covered now, or youd be out around $400 for a brand new phone
Yikes.....
This reminds me of when I was pushed into a pool with my cell phone in my pocket. It was a BB8900 that was ruined. The culprit immediately gave me the cash to buy a new one, thankfully.

Cuz I am not elidgable for an upgrade until next year and dont have $550 to fork out for the Sensation. I would love to get it, but thats way too much out of pocket for a phone.
Here's a quick tip for people that fall into this trap, never call in and say it got ruined in water or your screen is broken, you always take out the sim and keep it off wait a day and call your provider and tell them your not sure if it's stolen or lost.
They will charge you the $40 dollars and send you the new one, if your phone is not missing or stolen they will not take care of you. This can only happen in one calender year so no insurance jobs. You have to be on an insurance plan prior to this event other wise you pay the whole amount.

Don't know if insurance fraud is something that should be suggested on here. Don't get me wrong, i could care less about how much money insurance companies make off of a claim. But not a good suggestion nonetheless.

I don't carry insurance on my phones because it's a ripoff. Why am I going to pay asurion 5-6 bucks a month for them to send me some crap refurbished phone IF i break or lose my phone. I would rather save my money and buy a used one from someone online for the price of the deductible they are going to charge me IF I file a claim. Btw i have been using cell phones since the brickphones came out and have never broken or lost one yet.

We have a pool at our house, for the most part phones stay well away from the water...but accidents have happened. When we went to seaworld last summer, there were people who were vacuum sealing phones in clear plastic which is a great idea...headed to Walmart and bought the sealer and a pack of small bags...works great for days that we know we will be out there all day. I can even punch a hole through the sealed part at the top and put my phone on a lanyard to wear around my neck

Strange to hear that. Its cool if thats what you do, but the referbs that come from them are certified referbs and have a 6 month warranty. They even cover stolen or lost cell phones. My personal choice has always been to get the insurance. $130 for a like new to me is better than $200 plus for a like new used from someone. jmo
You also mentioned "IF". Thats what insrance is all about the "IF" siutation. I do know that the insuance companies make millions on us because the "IF" usually never happens, but that's life I guess.
Actually it's a known fact, they list it in their disclaimer when you pay for insurance they have to tell you what the terms of service are. It clearly states if damage to any device is a result of the user then you are solely at fault and no claim will be entertained by said warranty, if the device is either stolen or lost under said claim then the deductible will apply and a replacement will be issued over the contract term not to exceed more than 2 times over a calender year.
They basically tell you to not bother if the screen is cracked or the buttons pop off but if it's lost or stolen then give us a call.
I actually dropped my last phone in the water while working on a side job and when I called the customer service person said "Ohh so you lost the phone, we'll send you out a new one then" AFTER I told him what happened.
Their well aware of what happens and mistakes get made but why pay for a service if it's not working for you. I didn't scam anyone nor did I offer any information that wasn't offered to me direct from T-Mobile, I paid my $40.00 dollars and had my phone back in 3 days (My Touch 4G). It's better than paying for the phone out right or second hand.
For those whom think I'm some thief or a scam junky just don't read the suggestion, keep paying top dollar for services you never use and we'll be cool I really don't care either way but for those whom live in the real world and know every penny counts take my advice and keep your investment, what's funny about "those with negative responses to my suggestion" is here you are on a site that's main goal is to develop solutions for software issues not provided by your carrier and freedom of use and the right to use what you pay for on all devices posted here ( Will Void Your Warranty threw your Provider for Using!) has something to say about it.
I love the site and would never have anything bad to say about it, I believe all of the dev's and site staff have a good thing going here and hopefully everyone can learn from all of it as you should, people need to take a bigger step and learn how to do for them selves and others instead of just being sheep and this site supports that.

Do the rice thing with the phone as disassembled as you can, about an inch of rice, the bag full of air and sealed, shake it good (to make the air inside really really dry) and leave it for 48 hours.
That revived my Samsung Blast from completely dead, couldn't even get the charge light to come on.

Thanks for the recommendation but there was no hope for it. It was swimming for 45 minutes at least. Plus I called for replacement right when I found out. I want a fully functioning phone, not one brought back from dearh.....LOL
I hear you there, you know some where down the line it will just give you problems anyways and my phone is everything as far as work goes and knowing where I need to be every day matters when your a tech.
I don't mind taking a risk when the over all out come means I benefit more down the line and being able to fix my own equipment means I make more money later so making sure everything I have works properly is key not only for myself but also my customers.

Replacement phone question.

I've had my shift since feb. Rooted since day one.
Phone works, keyboard works, speakers work, everything works. Battery seems to drain faster, but hell, its a year old and gets used extensively.
I have the $8 insurance thing through them since day one. Never once used it.
My phone has been dropped more times than a $10 crack whore. Dented, scratched, chipped, etc. But as I said, all works.
Do you guys think sprint would replace it with a new phone under the insurance plan? Has anyone done this? Does it have to be broken to be replaced? Does the deductable apply? Should I try to replace it in a sprint store, radio shack, or does it have to be done via phone/snailmail?
Sent from my PG06100 using xda premium
If the phone is still in good working order, cosmetic damage will not get you a replacement. Unless that damage is to the screen ( cracked screen ) . If your screen is just scratched they will not do it. As for a good place to try and possibly get a replacement. I would try the Sprint Authorized Repair CenterIt's where when I've had an issue with my phone It's been resolved every time. But experiences vary a lot from what I've heard.
Or if you really want a new phone just throw it on the floor till it does break and say someone tried stealing it and it fell in the middle of the street while a car ran over it
Find a friend at a sprint store and have them send you a REPLACEMENT. ASURION IS A LAST RESORT.
Thanks guys. I don't know if there's a repair center around here, but I'll check.
As far as the "accident", I've considered many options. Such as a drop in the potty during #2... and bringing it to the store in a bag with poo attached. Bet I wouldn't even have to unroot!!!
I will probably try the replacement path first. The salesman I used was a straight up guy, or seemed to be. I may take a ride up to huntsville this weekend and see if he still works there. Hopefully.
I guess I'm foolish for not knowing, but the insurance that comes from a true sprint store, is that assurion? I thought it was something they handled directly. I guess the confusion comes from different posts I've seen here. Didn't one of you guys break hinges a while back and get a new phone? What was your situation as far as sprint, insurance, etc.?
Sent from my PG06100 using xda premium
Well the cofusion usually comes from Sprint spliting up what they do " in house " , vs what they call an " insurance claim ". Although from my understanding if you do not have T.E.P. , then you cannot make an insurance claim. They do have guide lines, but I've seen different stores interperate them differently. The biggest thing IMO is that if they do not resolve the problem in house ( at the repair center / store ) then they try and make it an insurance claim. You then have to contact Insurian, that realy sucks. Because then you most times end up paying the deductable, which is now $100 .
my earpiece went out last saturday. i brought it to a repair center and they kept it for a few hours. They told me they couldn't fix it, so they ordered me a new one, but it was on backorder and didn't know when it will be in. Been calling everday and a no go.

Will AT&T show me any mercy? Whiskey + HOX = fail

8/22/12 UPDATE: My HOX has sworn off whiskey and is now leading a sober, healthy lifestyle.
So I switched to AT&T from Sprint in March and got the Note. The GPS stopped working about 5 weeks ago and about 3 weeks ago I exchanged it for a refurbished one at an AT&T repair center. The day after I got the "new" one I traded it for a HOX because I wanted something smaller that I didn't have to worry about having GPS issues.
A few hours ago I unfortunately poured a significant amount of whiskey on it. I didn't have any rice but popped out the sim card and used a hair dryer pointed in the opening. I think it's dry now and while the screen looks fine it is 95% unresponsive to touch so the phone seems to be ruined. Needless to say the water damage strip in the sim slot is bright pink.
Is it even worth begging for mercy at an AT&T store, repair center or over the phone? What might they possibly do? Anyone had a similar experience? Need advice please.
If AT&T won't do something extraordinarily nice for me I guess my only option for a new phone would be the Galaxy Nexus but even $350 will be hard to swallow. Otherwise I guess it's gambling on eBay or craigslist for a really good deal on a Nexus, HOX or GS3. Or a Note if it's a deal that's just too good to pass up. What to do, what to do....this sucks.
Your phone might just die if you use it without first drying all the whiskey inside it. Although it might turn back on, if there still is whiskey, it will kill the circuit or whatever is inside the phone
You could try selling it on eBay for spare parts. Sending it for repair won't do you any good and you are likely not going to find a att store willing to exchange it.

your phone is high. Give it a day or so to sober up.
I dont respond touches after a whiskey either.
Remove the SIM tray. If the indicator there is white, you're ok. If it's red, you're boned.
Since it's already marked as being water damaged do a proper cleaning of it using distilled water and getting some white rice to suck the moisture out overnight. Here's a step-by-step you might want to follow.

You borked your phone, and you expect AT&T to swallow the expense (which in turn will be passed down to its customers)?
Suck it up and buy a new phone.

Believe it or not, I acquired some rice and left the phone in it overnight and it seems to have sobered up. Now it appears the only consequence of phone's drinking binge is a tripped water damage indicator.

How so? You broke your phone and are asking AT&T will do something "extraordinarily nice" for you. Anything they do for you (replace the phone, discount, early upgrade) is money out of their pockets (and ultimately all of ours).
Yes, you also mentioned just buying a new phone. Its my opinion you do that.

I did the same thing back when i had the touch pro 2. Only difference was i was driving and after ending my phone call i put my phone in my cars cup holder. Stupid me forgot that i had a open cup of coffee there. Dropped the phone right in there.
Did the rice thing and the phone wouldn't turn on. I called up HTC and told them what happened. They said to ship them the phone and pay $20 because my phone was the unlocked international model.
A week later i got a call back saying they fixed my phone and they'll be shipping it back for free.
Note: My phone didn't have any warranty because it was international, and also it was more than a year old. I was running a custom rom (NRG energy rom) that should have voided warranty.
HTC didn't charge me anything to fix the phone. I didn't go through AT&T. I went straight to HTC repair center. I don't know if the guy didn't care or it was really good customer service so you might want to try a few times. I don't know why you think it's not worth even asking. What would you lose by trying? If it doesn't work the first time have your wife/girlfriend/sister call and act like an idiot.
Site note: this awesome customer service is what convinced me to only buy HTC phones from there on (and i have).

Interesting testimony. Every other account I've heard on here is that HTC is absolutely brutal with denying warranty service, particularly for water damage. And that your better bet is to go through AT&T.
Considering your nick and avatar, it would have been funnier if the water damage to your phone was due to booze, like the OP.

Yayy first HOX post. You're about to get a few of us coming over who got out SGS2 warrantied out for skyrockets. But we complained and got offered HOX. SO that being said having said that. I suggest you go through att. If you get the right CS rep. They're able to help. Just a suggestion.

I dropped mine in a contaminated puddle and it also became unresponsive. After awhile it finally started working and the only after effect is the pink indicator strip and my recent button no longer lights up. Other than that, it works like a champ.

Believe it or not, I acquired some rice and left the phone in it overnight and it seems to have sobered up. Now it appears the only consequence of phone's drinking binge is a tripped water damage indicator.

My EVO 3D survived a swim in the pool.
It took about a week but she is back other than the camera is borked.
I let it dry out in the sun, then completely removed the housing and really cleaned and dried it. Tough little phone good to know the hox is up to a few shots

Bad thing about the HOX is you can't take it apart very easily.

You borked your phone, and you expect AT&T to swallow the expense (which in turn will be passed down to its customers)?
Suck it up and buy a new phone.

That is a very unfair/inaccurate summary!
Something ****ty happened to the OP, and he fully realizes it's his fault.
OP posts a question about the best course of action, explicitly saying that it would be amazingly kind of at&t to help him out.
He does not "...expect AT&T to swallow the expense..."
I hear what you're saying, redpoint73, but he isn't trying to con anyone (like the bleach comment) or avoid taking responsibility, the dude just wants some advice! Your suggestion to get a Gnex is a good one.
AT&T's job is to make money, they can make money by charging for repairs, make money by trying to have good customer service as a long-term investment, or maybe decide not to help because of the costs. SO, I second someone else's sentiments: might as well contact at&t and/or HTC to see if they will fix it up - I doubt it's cheap, but probably cheaper than new phone, and worse that can happen is they say "no."
If you like the Note, try to wait a while, I think the Note 2 is supposedly going to be announced sept 15. After the announcement, and again after it is actually on sale, I would expect the price of a used Note to drop significantly, $100-200. Good luck!
I very highly doubt it, but if you talk with a manager/higher power, it's possible. I've heard stories of people talking their way out of the replacement fee.
Then again, most of those have been customers for years.
My account, for example, has been active since 1996, and we use AT&T for cell phone, home phone, tv and internet. From that we usually get our way if we talk to upper management

Got my phone wet. Question about insurance replacement.

So I got my phone completely submerged in water, we wont go into the details of the how or why, but anyways. I immediately took it all apart (I say apart really just took out the battery/sim and sd cards.) and put in a bag of rice for the rest of the day and all night. It turned on just fine however the touchscreen is totally unresponsive to any touch. So i filed a claim with Asurion and I will be getting a new replacement sometime tomorrow. My question is. Since the phone still turns on and I had it rooted with a custom rom installed is there any way for me to return it back to stock in its condition? Or should I even worry about it since it is a Insurance claim? Thanks in advance guys. Going to be much more careful from now on. On a side note I wish Lifeproof made a case for these phones! I mean come on its already out selling the iphone so you know there is a market for it. haha

Seido does offer a waterproof case for the S3. I have not tried it but thought you might be interested.
http://www.seidio.com/obex/
I do not work for/associated with Seido. I saw it looking at thier extended batteries.
If it's an insurance claim they don't care if it's rooted.

Good to know!
And I will for sure check the seidio case out! Thanks for posting that!
you should be able to use pc odin to wipe it and make it factory again. Does asurion want it back if so how much can you do to it. if you can i would take it all the way apart and clean the inside out with denatured alcohol and a can of air to try to blow out any water hiding under the ic... the touch screen might even return...
Asurion doesn't care what you do with your phone. You can return it with poop inside the phone and they wouldn't give a poop.

Just as a side note, I had a bionic, dropped it and broke the screen and replaced it via Assurion, then 8 months later I took a swim with my S3, they replaced that too but cancelled my policy.....

Ive replaced my old Nexus around 3 times because I kept dropping and breaking the screen and they never cancelled. If theyre taking $5+ every month they better not cancell my insurance. Plus i gotta pay around $100 a month
Correction: it's outselling a last-generation iPhone for 1 quarter near the end of it's product cycle. Don't expect it to happen again anytime soon.
Anyway, I agree. I wish lifeproof made a case for GS3.

Sorry your high ness! Should not have slammed apple in android forum. I apologize.
Yeah I made the mistake of telling them that I still had my phone. Didn't dawn on me to say i didn't and then try and fix the old one which i believe could probably be salvaged. Oh well. Im hoping to get the Seidio Obex case for Christmas. I do alot of fishing and have gotten several phones wet the last couple of years. Funny thing is all of my motorola's that got wet still worked just fine. A testament to motorola's build quality I guess.

My little boy dropped a phone in the toilet a couple of years ago and they replaced it without even asking what happened. Maybe I just got lucky.
..

Worst luck ever!!

I just want to share a very very bad experience with xda. Yesterday I was at the mall and I went into a verizon store. I remeberred that the galaxy s4 is going to debut in a few days so I thought Id cancel my insurance to save a little bit of money so I can buy the 4. I have payed for insurance since launch day for my s3 and I never had to use it so I said to myself ill drop it and save the 8$ for the next few months. Well my luck went downhill from there. last night when i went to bed i hooked up my phone to the charger and put it down on a little stool my 3 year old daughter was using as a table for her snacks while she watched tv in my room earlier. I didnt think anything of it. when I woke up i unplugged it in the morning it only said 39% charged and im like WTF!! I swiped screens to my battery widget to check whats going on and no responce . I took my tpu case off and its soaked wet....It turns out my daughter had spilled her water on the stool and its receessed in towards the middle so there was enough water to enter my phones innards all night. i could hear it sizzling from the bottom and it smelled like burning!!! ipulled the battery and I called verizon to attempt to re-add the insurance and they said they could not do it. i didnt know what else to do so I told them the truth and they told me because the calls were recorded then there really was nothing they could do for me knowiong that it was water damaged ( I shoukd have never told them my story).. I was pissed that after paying insurance for ever with them the first time I ever need help, they won't help me out even if i dropped it for less than a day. but i cant blame them. i tried the dip your phone in rice trick all day and now it seems to be functioning again but it wont charge properly, its charging very very slowly. Im going to put it back in rice all night maybe it will be alright in the morning. Im just glad I kept my old xperia play as a backup. 3G is soooooo SLOW!!!! please dont let us wait forver for the s4!! i might go back to my iphone roots with the 5 and I really dont want to do that!!!
Um, alright.

you broke the golden rule, man... NEVER get rid of your insurance. The chances of life happening are 100% and that piece of glass, plastic, and electricity is always the first thing to get caught up in it.
You canceled your $8/month insurance to save a little bit of money to buy the S4 that I'm assuming will be coming out within the next month or two? So you were trying to save a whole $16 - $24 to put towards a new phone? You also lay your phone down in water without knowing it? I think it may be more than bad luck man.. At least there isn't a reason to not buy the S4 I suppose.
Ouch
That hurts

Yeah it was more my fault. I think I didn't notice the water but in the middle of the night I think I checked the time and I must of pushed it further into the stool. It seems good now after all night being sealed with rice. Only the battery doesn't want to charge. I'm going to buy another one maybe this ones just shot. But to me it is bad luck because what are the odds that I played for the insurance for 9 months for it and the day I take it off is the day I break it?

I see insurance as a necessary evil.
Now that I really think about it even If I would of had the insurance I'm not sure I'd file a $100 claim now that I got it working. Hopefully its just a bad battery and noe the circuitry inside the phone. I'm sure I can still get a good amount on eBay for it if I say it has been in water before but still works ok

Something similar happened to me, take it apart leave it in the rice longer I left mine for two or three days. Mine was plugged when it go twet too i had to have the USB port replaced its all good now everything functions as it did before my accident. Good luck!!

Make sure it'll connect to a computer mine would charge but wouldn't connect to my laptop. I used mobile Odin until I got it fixed.
Where would I get the USB port replaced? I'm going to get a battery today I hope that will be it

Man that is truly one of those Homer Simpson "DOH!" moments. That is some pretty bad luck. I've personally had insurance for every smartphone I've bought. Never any dumb phones as I could always find a place to get a cheap replacement. I have an 18 month old and she is the reason why we now have all three lines with insurance. I have the s3 my fiancee has the GNEX and our 16 year old has a Razr. Every month I look at the bill and think I could be saving money, but then I remember the rules. What you don't think you need is what you will need five minutes from now.
Even if it's the charging circuitry that's dead, just get a spare battery (or 2 if this one is also dying) and a universal charger and charge that way for the few more months that you're going to have this phone
Yeah I'm going that route. I looked up a dissasemly video and it isn't that hard. I ordered a USB port and if I can't solder it myself I'm going to take it to a little shop and have it done. I reactivated it and everything works fine now. Even the charging part seems better now. I gotta say this phone is pretty though for going through all that and managed to come back.

Just make sure it's recognized in Odin or heimdall just in case u ever need those. I hardly ever need them but u never know!
for those people that believe in the insurance..... $9 x 9 = $81 + $100 deductible = $181 and you are out the money each month. craigslist has legit s3's for $200. IF you need it. not so worth it anymore is it
Yeah that whole 100 deductible is crap. I don't know why Samsung doesn't roll out their own version of apple care. I loved it on my iPhones. Just pay 100$ up front and they replace them on the spot for new ones and you get 3 water damage or broken replacements for $50. I got like 4 replacements from them when I would build up scratches I would just come up with something like the home button not working intermittently .
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
Instead of replacing the USB port, you should just buy the wireless charging cover and a qi charging pad.
