Hopefully someone will know.
I lost my phone and made a claim for a new one through the insurance I pay for with my plan. I later found my old phone and the screen is cracked but it still works.
Since I claimed my old phone as lost, can I sell it or does the IMEI number cause any issues for the person who purchases it? If so I may just opt to sell for parts only.
Thanks

the old phone's IMEI has been blocked from Verizon's network. It would be a misrepresentation/fraud to sell it without disclosing that.

You can sell it for parts or you can just sell the whole phone with the bad ESN. Some people will find some way to flash it to work on cricket or something along those lines.

It is nearly impossible to take the screen off the frame of GS3 once it is applied.
You'll require a lot of heat, but with that kind of heat may damage the existing screen.

As usual, the upgrade price is still $150 on my wife's line. Guess another call to retentions is in order...It's extremely annoying when long time customers who put up with T-Mobile's crap network always get the shaft on offers like this. And they wonder why there's so much churn in the customer base...it's the only way to get an upgrade in our broken phone subsidy based system.

I seem to have hard bricked my Galaxy S3 on US Cellular. I was running Baked blackbean 6, and wanted to flash the latest modem for USCC to fix the absolutely terrible signal issues. I grabbed the zip and opened it up in mobile odin and told it to flash. My phone shut down and now won't do a thing. No download mode, no recovery, no notification light. When I plug it into my computer, the computer dings to say that something has been plugged in, but it doesn't show anything anywhere. It's not detected by odin.
So. I want to either fix it or get it replaced. I have done a bit of research, and it looks like a jtag fix is the only thing that'll work at this point. And the jtag fix I've found is for the international galaxy s3. I'd need the correct files for the USCC/Verizon S3. I've also seen that I can send it to some place online for $60 and they'll fix it. But that takes like 2 weeks. I was thinking about bringing it back to the store and asking for a replacement.
I'm figuring I should just bring it in and act dumb. Say it wouldn't turn on today when I got up. Then they put a new battery in it, and it still doesn't work. Then they give me a replacement. But I've never returned a device like this. Any tips regarding my issue?
Yes pay for the JTAG. You broke your phone not the carrier. Pay the extra for faster shipping and it only takes a couple days then.

I would go for that, except my phone was one of the phones with the signal issues. US Cellular started offering replacements for those. I hadn't brought mine in, as I wasn't feeling up to making everything stock again. So even if I did the jtag, then I'd still have a phone that didn't work right. That's why I don't feel wrong bringing it in for a free replacement if I can.
Does anyone have any tips on sweet talking a store rep into replacing your phone?

No. We don't have any advice for helping you commit fraud. Worst of luck to you in getting a new phone for free.
But other than that, good luck
Do you have insurance? I bricked my first S3 and suddenly couldn't find it got a replacement in 4 days ($50 or $100 cannot remember ).the glass.had also shattered or I would have tried to fix it.. The glass just shattered on my current one and I ordered 2 screens.. I am going to try and repair both devices (2 screens and 1hard brick )
My thoughts have insurance or fix it yourself

Great! So we have the OP asking for guidance on how to do a fraudulent warranty claim, and now another user is bragging about committing insurance fraud. Gee, I wonder why the prices of phones and phone service are so high??

This isn't insurance fraud -- this is what insurance is for. Trying to get it warrantied is fraud, given that it was not the carrier's problem, but the insurance is there for accidental damage/loss. Accidently bricking the phone is definitely accidental damage and is clearly a legit insurance claim.

If it's a legit insurance claim, why is it he "suddenly couldn't find it" then filed the insurance claim? Why didn't he just file the claim saying he bricked his phone flashing a custom ROM? Because he knew it would be denied. He purposefully flashed custom software which bricked his phone, nothing accidental about that. I'm quite certain he filed the claim as a lost phone, not that he bricked it flashing custom software. Try filling the claim as an accidental brick from flashing a custom ROM and see how far you get with that.

All he has to say is it won't turn on. It's no fraud there. If you drive home drunk and crash the insurance won't say they aren't covering the damage to the vehicle because the driver was doing something he's not supposed to be.

I use insurance whenever I brick my phone. I dont think its fraud. If I'm paying $5 a month and a $100 deductible they better cover tinkering with the phone

If you don't have any cosmetic damage call samsung and say it died. You have a free one year manufacture warranty use it a lot of people don't I did twice. They send you a box to send your phone and send you a refurbished or new phone. They send the new device to your house with ups. The box they send for you to send your old phone is prepaid you just drop it off at the ups store. Don't waste your time with the carrier it only take a week the most to get your phone back man. Htc do the same accept they wanted me to pay for shipping.

I just wanted to post this for all of you considering getting a new phone on AT&T, such as the One, S4, Blackberry, etc. According to what I have read, it looks like AT&T is starting a promotion tomorrow that will give an instant $100 or more credit toward a new phone of your choice when you trade in your old working smart phone, ( 3 years old or less). This may help in the decision making process for many people.

not sure if its worth returning the gs4 and re-buying it again using a trade in.... when i could sell the trade in phone for 200 on CL and making my phone free....

I'm starting to hate AT&T even more. I recently tried to get an early upgrade (60 days away) & was turned down over the phone. It really pissed me off since I've been a long time customer in good standing. Pissed me off so much, I've been considering going to TMO & now they do this to me. Hopefully this last for more than 30 days since they won't budge unless im within 30 days or less.
Can you trade in a rooted and unlocked phone that has been flashed?

You can probably sell the phone for way more on eBay or some other places. It's not worth giving it to att.

So I have been on T-Mobile for a few weeks now. I downloaded the "T-Mobile My Account" app to manage my account, pay bills, etc. I got a notification today from the app telling me some test results and one of them was saying I was rooted. So is this info sent to T-Mobile and they know that I am rooted or are these test just done locally for my own info? And does T-mobile even care if we root our phones? I'm not really worried, I'm just curious about it. Screenshots attached below.

Yeah the people at the store near me actually encourage people to root their device if they can and get rid of all the bloat. Most carriers don't even look at the phone when it comes in. They just wipe the entire thing anyway.

The T-Mobile store by my house was saying he roots his, was boasting that the Nexus 4(just came out at the time) he could tether all he wants with no T-Mobile restrictions. He pushed my Mom to buy Nexus 4(which wasn't that hard she had a Nexus S) so yeah it certainly happens. If your a phone tech nerd why not apply for T-Mobile, Sprint, At&t etc)

Will do. I signed up for Premium care, gonna grab lunch then to the best buy premium care center. I'll report back. ?
I reported back to the wrong thread out of frustration. Here's my report :
Reporting back after trying to redeem my replacement device through Samsung Premium care. Well they sent me to t-mobile and tmo processed an order immediately. Although I did have to give them a credit for the new device , charge will be reversed once they receive the defective phone. Samsung Premium care is not ready for a subscription based platform. I was informed its a 3rd party company handling things. Not sure they are in concert as of yet. Paid beta program.
