Like the title says, I replaced the digitizer, but now my phone either isn't recognizing my SIM card, or somehow the antenna isn't working. I can connect to my home wifi network, I have full audio, full capacitive buttons and vibration....but signal bar just shows empty (i'm using CM10).
I've put my SIM into my other phone, everything works fine. I've checked all of the connectors on the motherboard, everything is connected and nothing is loose or pinched anywhere. Can someone give me a layout of which connections control what?

Remember that there's actually two different antennas. My suggestion would be to recheck each connection and make sure there's a solid click when you connect it

the top connector came off the wire when I snapped it from the motherboard. I crimped the wire back in place but maybe I sould solder.
Crimp should work if the center pin is still making contact with the wire. Soldering shouldn't hurt anything that I can think of

Update, I've purchased a replacement micro-coax cable, that fits correctly, but still have no signal coming to my phone for whatever reason. Any ideas, maybe getting a crappy g2x for parts and using it's cable?

Yup, not too sure what's happening. I literally did NOTHING else to the phone except accidentally rip off the connection on the lower end of the phone. I still get Wifi, so I know nothing internally is broken. I need to call tmo on the off chance this phone got locked due to previous owner payment or reported lost or stolen. It was an LG branded, g2x, though, which doesn't get sold throught tmo.

The LG brand could mean that the digitizer was previously replaced. It sounds like a very peculiar situation you are in. Replacement parts idea is probably best if you have looked over everything very carefully and can't visually find anything wrong. Did you use a hair dryer or other heat source to get the digitizer off? Perhaps the radio portion received to much heat and fried. That the only thing I can think of.

When I first did the repair, I ripped the ribbon from mother board to digitizer, not realizing it was there in the first place. The screen separated from the digitizer pretty easily, no heat required.
The new piece I ordered had the digitizer and outside bezel all attached as one piece, which would normally be two pieces. While constructing everything, I forgot that little rubber/plastic piece that fits near the front facing camera, so I detached the mother board connections, then went down to the antenna area and disconnected the micro coax and the connector slipped off the cable altogether. I put the exposed wire back into the connector, restarted the phone, and there has been no signal ever sense.
The last thing I'm going to try is getting an OEM micro coax from either a P990 or P999. I feel kind of stupid for worrying about this, since it's an old phone with limited development at the moment, plus I have another phone already. But since I bought an entirely new shell, I want to fix this damn thing and probably just sell it.

Canadian G2X/P999 are branded LG and are known as Optimus 2X even though they are not the P990 Optimus 2X which is/was also sold in Canada, each model sold by different service providers operating on different cell radio bands. At a point, T-Mobile was supplying LG branded G2X/P999 phones as replacements. You probably have one of those or, if you bought it from someone in Canada or who was in Canada that would also explain why yours is branded LG.
If you shorted the antenna cable's internal wire to its shield that would short-circuit the cell radio's output which may have damaged the hardware if the phone transmitted while there was a short-circuit.

I think what I need to do, if i wanted to keep this phone, is the buy a crappy g2x and use it's internal motherboard with antenna and coax cable.
Does anyone know what the board is called at the bottom of the phone, near the charging port? It's where one end of the micro coax cable connects. The other end is near the middle of the phone, on the main mother board.
I'm wondering since the board at the bottom had the problem, if I were to replace that.

I've written up a procedure to determine if a phone's cell radio is working.

Finally fixed the damn thing, adjusted the length on either side of the mico coax, the cable isn't being pinched anymore so it works fine. I have a slight problem, though, I have some bright light bleeding from the middle left, and top right of the screen. Maybe because the LED isn't seated flush against the digitizer? Is that what would cause this?
It's minimal, and I don't want to take it apart, but still curious.
Around the screen edge there should be attached to the digitizer a thin foam gasket. If it is missing a piece of the thin foam or if it somehow got disturbed or is not there it most likely is where the bleed is comming from.

I've seen a few sites selling external antennas for the Charge. I live out in the vast wilderness of East Bumblecrapfail, NC, and only have, at best, one bar of 3g signal at my house. I am beyond the reach of cable or DSL. I need something better than this HughesNet abomination that I mockingly call a net connection. Halp! Are these things safe? Will they do anything to boost my signal? Anyone have any experience with them? HELP A NERD OUT, I JUST WANT INTERTUBES AT HOME. Thanks in advance.
If u can swallow spending about $350.,I bought a cell-phone mate ®booster with directional outside antenna and dome inside antenna which they say covers 2500 sq ft. Cellphone mate was the only one that put out a full 3 Watts. Wilson and others just 1 and a half. Its also made of cast aluminum instead of plastic. At my fish camp I went from 1 bar outside to 4-5 bars inside. You definitely need the upgraded antennas tho. Their good for about 15 DB gain.get the dual band and it'll work on everything but IDEN networks. They are starting to make 4g boosters too. YMMV

Awesome! I heard someone saying something about boosters frying the modem on the charge, though. is this the case or is that the ramblings of a paranoid/incompetent/unlucky techie?
Don't stick anything on the charge as far as R1L1 ports on the back of the phone. I messed up my Charge doing that.
I have noticed that the Thunderbolt has an external antenna on the batter cover. I'd love to somehow copy this method. My bro's thunderbolt always gets great 4G

Could you share what you did that caused issues with your Charge? I am quite interested in making use of those ports, but I am trying to gather as much info about them as possible before I cause problems.
Pretty sure those ports are for factory adjustment of the radio, and not for external antennas.

Uhh.. stuck a copper wire in like some stupid youtube video.. Don't do this.. it will mess up your connections.. you'll lose all connections.
Wilson and some other company showed off a $150 external antenna for 4G Verizon LTE phones at CES. We'll probably get a much better look at their products during Mobile World Congress in the end of February. IIRC they plan on releasing it Q2 of this year.
As has been pointed out, the antenna doesn't connect directly to the Charge, as that would permanently disable the Charge's internal antennas. Rather, you set the Charge in a cup holder-type device, which is connected by wire to a separate antenna. I think the phone holder wirelessly transmits the amplified signal from the antenna, over the wire, and to the phone.
Why does plugging stuff in even permanently disable the internal antennas? What sort of benefit is that supposed to have?

It sounds like it breaks some hardware antenna points, not some software detecting and permanently disabling.

when i was stuck with a non worth mentioning Fascinate i had problems out the yeng yang trying to make and recieve calls here at home. (SE TN.) Once i griped enough they offered me a choice between droidx2 or this charge. i chose the charge because of the humming bird processor.
after reading many spec sheets from where ever on the net i discovered that the Charge spec stated it had an antenne, no where does the Fassy specs so state that fact.
but i'd like to jump in on this band wagon about the R1 L2 ports..
if and when someone finds info on it send me a pm.. sometimes i am smart enough to check for them...

BTW Verizon told me i could get that booster thingy and i told them i bought a ph that was supposed to work and had no plans to buy optional 500 to make ph wrk. charge does well with one of those stick in antenne under the battery..

Usually the ports are hidden inside the phone. My old HTC Tilt Windows mobile phone has the port showing. That's where I learned about what they are for. Some dumbass stuck a paperclip in it and fried his cell radio.
i sent my infuse into samsung because i couldnt get a cell signal, and they sent it back to me saying ther was liquid damage / corrosion at the connector from the micro usb to the motherboard, and that it was unrepairable. to my knowledge, its never gotten wet . theyve voided my warranty. so what can i do? can i send it in somewhere else? possible to fix it myself?

You could probably buy a parts only infuse or an infuses motherboard from ebay...but it may cost around $200...however what they said sounds like bs to me. as far as i know the micro usb has nothing to do with cellular signal.
Can your phone connect to a pc? If it can than there is no corrosion. Also have you looked into apn settings? Sometimes people have to change the apn settings to get cellular signal.
If it can connect to the pc i would try odin and see if that helps at all...if i had money i would gladly buy it off you...but sadly im 17 without a job and only have $9

I can sync to my PC to swap files back and forth, but not to flash. They say the baseband is missing, or not readable, due to corrosion at a connector on the motherboard. Everything else works okay, and once in awhile, I will get signal, only after switching wifi on and then off again ... sometimes. There's a little red sticker on the inside, with a corner nicked off... and I'm pretty sure it wasn't that way to begin with. I think it may have been one of those moisture sensing stickers...? But if it was there before, I don't think it was red. Anyways, they said I could send it back in to have it reevaluated, but that they'll probably come to the same conclusion as last time. Especially if that is a moisture sensing sticker... I bought this phone outright, from a Guy who had Att service on it originally, and I currently have att service. Is it worth trying to send it into Att 's warranty department?

I got a Nexus 5 off a friend for a decent price because he dropped it and bent it up a bit. After giving it a quick look, the only thing that seemed damaged was the black little coax wire that connects the main board to the board on the bottom (Assuming it goes to the antenna), The end simply got bent off. This was an easy fix, replace the cable no worries. The real problem is when I went to go test the phone after I fixed the cable, it doesn't get any cellular signal (Wifi/BT still works), draws a crazy amount of power and the 'Qualcomm WTR1605L' chip specifically gets extremely hot, to the point of overheating in like 30 mins. Rather than tossing a bunch of money into replacement components (or getting another nexus 5 with a bad screen or something) I'd prefer to narrow down the problem to one specific component. This leads to my question:
Does anybody have any ideas to how I can further troubleshoot and diagnose this problem, or knows what the problem exactly is?
I have tried a few things, like if I flash the LG G2 radio (A trick I learned I could do with my Nexus 4/LGOG, after backing up my EFS just in case), Wifi and Bluetooth still work while Cellular, GPS and most of the other sensors do not. This stops the big power draw and overheating issue, but doesn't really do anything to further identify the problem component. I noticed that the modem image could be mounted as vfat and you can mess around with the various parts of the image. I don't know which files do what, so I have thus far left it alone.
I know this seems like an odd question to ask here, half the time I see responses like "Send it into Google/LG and have them fix it for you" but that isn't really applicable in my situation
Also, I know that my SIM is good, it works in my Nexus 4, I know that my ROM isn't a issue, because I have multirom installed and tried many different roms. The Radio image shouldn't be an issue because I had updated the phone from 4.4 to 4.4.4/L Preview since I got it (Using the google images and flashall script). IMEI/Whatever the ESN equivalent shouldn't be bad, my friend had been using it before he dropped it.

Dropping a phone can sometimes cause invisible damage (like BGA solder joints failing). Visual inspection can only tell you so much.

I used to build small electronic projects when I was a kid. When something overheated like that, 90% of the time it was a short or a the wrong value of component. It's possible the drop caused the antenna connector to short out. Try disconnecting the antenna cable and try again with the stock radio firmware and see if the radio continues to overheat.
(I'm not sure how flashing the radio would prevent overheating, unless the original firmware simply turned up the transmit power in an effort to contact the tower, but that's my first guess and should an easy thing to eliminate).

Thanks for replying! When I get home I will give it a shot and see if it still overheats, then update this with my findings.
If it is overheating then it must hardware issue. Worst case is that the PBC board has a crack somewhere because of the bent. Grab the service manual from the general forum and start mesuring the components to find out where is the problem.

It seems to overheat with our without the antenna cables on the stock radio. I noticed that it still gets warmer than it should with the G2 radio, it just takes a lot longer.
That service manual is really comprehensive but unfortunately, it is going to take me some time to actually get to looking it over closely.

recently my SC-02h (Jap Docomo version) hard-bricked and has no way to recover besides JTAG or motherboard replacement.
This made me think of an experiment.
Can you replace any motherboard (which includes all chips and the storage) with another.
I ordered the g935FD dual sim version with the Exynos chip, this compared to my QC single sim version which is currently bricked.
Hopefully within the next few days I'll receive the motherboard and start the replacement process (I will probable film it) to see if it works.
If so, anyone could replace their motherboard by a new one that is unlocked or has a different chipset.
Please discuss here if you're also interested in changing your own mobo with another.

Yea I ordered that one, although I thought the tray looks the same (bottom part), so until my new one arrives I'll use the older one.

I checked the connections and they are the same, the only thing that differs is the sim holder and the chipset.
Also a new phone (unlocked) costs at least 2,5times more (live in Japan).

I'll record it on video as soon as it arrives, also the process of taking it out and replacing it completely. So if it ends up in failure you can all see it.

Hmm I flashed a rom with TWRP, (lineage, but wrong build) after that I rebooted and the phone stopped responding completely.
So black screen, no led when charging, no response at all when pressing buttons.
Even disconnecting battery and reconnecting didn't work.
Also no recognition in windows when connected to USB

Another thing you might lose is waterproofness. I cracked my screen badly and instead of repairing it at a 3rd party shop, I sold it and got a new one. Coz it won't be waterproof anymore..

i should be fine, just get it glued back together properly.
besides i don't really care about it.
Unless the other components (camera, vibrator motor, various sensors, OLED Panel etc.) don't differ in the way they talk to the mainboard, I don't see why it shouldn't work. As others have said, I'd really love to see how it'll work out for you. So, thanks for sharing =)
Well it didn't work out, I put in the new motherboard but the phone didn't power on at all. There is also no led when trying to charge it. I'll be sending it back to the supplier and buy another version instead.

Was interesting to watch, however you only tried powering on twice and quit?
Connecting a charger had no effect?
Unless the board your received was dead to begin with.

Can you share the link of where you bought the motherboard? It might be that you bought a blank motherboard. In that case you want it to be flashed with the correct IMEI and partition (table?). AFAIK the IMEI has to be that of your previous phone since you can't just "create" a new IMEI. Don't even want to get into the legal repercussions but here's a sneak peak; in some countries it's a criminal offence to alter an IMEI or even have tools to alter IMEI. Don't quote me on this and I'm asking the community to correct me. If the motherboard comes from a previously active device, it should have its own IMEI and none of what I said before matters.
Whatever, none of that necessarily explain why it didn't boot up. Have you tried charging and plugging it to a PC? If it isn't dead, your PC should at least detect A device.

Well I tried a few times after that and after letting it on a charger, still no response.

It should be one with an IMEI how else can it be unlocked.
I tried plugging it in as well, but my PC doesn't recognise it at all.
I've ordered a different one this time, this motherboard was also slightly different from the one I had (2 cables instead of 3) so it might be incompatible.

I am going to try swapping out a good motherboard from a banged up sprint G930P phone with a clean IMEI into a clean, whole, G930X demo model that I picked up cheap on Ebay.
The "X" demo phones work on WIFI only. I understand that the "X" motherboards are missing the cellular radios, which is why I am trying this swap -- it should be far easier and less costly than doing a full screen&LCD replacement, which requires tearing down the entire phone, and costs about $150. Hopefullly, I will just have to remove the back, the QI receiver and I think the camera, and I'll get access to the motherboard.
My hope is that all the rest of the parts are present -- we'll see how it goes.

I have a backup Verizon LG Velvet. I have the LG V60 as my main phone. With or without a sim the Velvet states "Service Disabled" and the bars have a small x next to them. I and Verizon have tried all the normal troubleshooting tips available.
Factory reset
Airplane mode on/off
Network reset and so on.
The sim works fine in other phones I tested so it's not the sim giving the issue.
Verizon tried on their end to get the phone to work but still kept getting the same service disabled. I'm down to thinking it's more a hardware issue than it is software. But not sure which internal module I should replace. The logic board or the lower PCB.
I even tried to lookup flashing the stock firmware to see if that helps via LGUP and LG Flash Tool. Neither I could get to work to achieve that goal.
Anyway, I was wondering if anyone could share an assist as to what is wrong or how to rectify the issue to the get the service to work on this phone. Anyone have any idea? Thanks.
Maybe the C port pcb. I know on Samsung phones one of the failure modes with the C port pcb is lose of internet and phone. It gets a lot of wear and tear. If it applies to this phone, don't know.
An experienced repair tech is probably your best shot...

That's also what I thinking when I mention replacing the lower PCB. I will give that a shot. And then go further if that doesn't help. Thnx

They are generally inexpensive. Of course the elephant in the room is it could be the mobo instead... I hope it's the former.
It's also possible that the firmware was corrupted. A freak random hit by a high energy particle can do exactly that. A reflash of the stock rom be the next thing to try after the port pcb or maybe before depending on what you think.

Yes. The reflash was my first choice but couldn't find the right program to work with this phone and the right KDZ file I was having trouble finding. I kept getting errors with LGUP and Flash Tool.

I change my views about flash memory corruption after watching that vid. The volume of bit drops on the Apollo flight is jaw dropping.

I may have found my issue. I put the logic board under my scope and found some damage to the lower PCB like I thought and you mentioned. There is a "+" and "-" connectors above the charging port where the plate of the speaker connects to. The "+" connector is missing.
I ordered another charging port PCB and when that arrives, I will see if that fixes the issue and let you know.

So as it turns out, it wasn't just the lower pcb. Although it did need replacement as well. But it was the main pcb. So I ordered the main pcb from eBay for 60 dollars and the seller ended up sending me the entire phone in perfect condition and perfect working condition. LOL-go figure.
