Infuse dock or any way to get usb audio out? - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have an infuse dock, hoping to be able to connect one cable in car for charging/audio. when i plunk my ns4g (using codename 3.6) into it, it seems to know it is in a dock, brings up the alarm clock app, but sound comes out of phone speaker, not headphones attached to dock. i also have an epic 4g tough that does the same thing on cm10. Is this a hardware issue, kernel issue, etc? Is it even possible with an NS4G?

Could someone confirm that the NS4G doesn't have the right hardware to provide analog audio out through USB? WOUld love to just forget about this, but until I get confirmation it's driving me nuts. nOt looking for USB DAC, just would prefer to have only one cable for charging and audio out, or to use my infuse docks.

It doesn't as far as I'm aware. I'm wondering though if it's an app thing or really a hardware thing.

Car Dock Audio Out Not Working

I just got my Samsung Fascinate with the car dock manufactured by Samsung as a replacement from Motorola Droid. I didnt know that the dock has a 3.5mm audio out on the back that connects thru a slider unit that inserts into the Samsung's micro USB port so I was excited that I only had to connect a one thing for both power and audio. The only problem is that there is no audio coming out of the port and no where on Samsung's website nor Verizon, does it mention that the docks had audio out going from the micro USB plug that input for power and out for audio. I am not sure if it was mistake in manufacturing or if I got a DOA. Please, if anybody has this same issue, let me know if you are having the same problem.
Thanks!!
Mine doesn't work either.

Nevermind, I found where the issues. When I was looking at my wife's home dock, the was a sticker covering up the 3.5mm jack stating that audio out function is not available until the 2.2 rollout, damn!!

Wow...
On the one hand, bad VZW/Samsung for releasing such a buggy phone. On the other hand, it's quite clear they have a plan to support this thing.
To be honest, I'd rather have a buggy Sammy then no Sammy at all. I'll just keep busy by watching Avatar over and over and over.
i truly hope that they support it well, but being so new its a good sign that there are so many accessories becasue they still dont have any type of docks for the incredible just a few cases and **** like that. although now that my dinc is gone they offer the white back dammnit.
So it's official that the Samsung Car Dock sold through Verizon won't support audio out through the 3.5mm jack until the Fascinate is updated to 2.2? That's a definite fail on their part.

I had the same issue on my Car Dock and Desk Dock. I asked a Samsung Rep about this, as I also bought a 3.5mm to RCA video out cable that doesn't work either. Official Froyo to come out next month per rep, no exact date. I'm **hoping** the 3.5 jack on the car mount will support video out too, as I have a nice multimedia system set up in my truck, wired to include the 3.5 inch screen in dvd head unit, the 7 inch screen I embedded in sun visor, all wired together I want to slap my Fascinate into the dock, having it charge from accessory port and the video out to feed the head unit, which in turn feeds the 7" screen.
Anyone with the official car dock willing to measure resistance between pins 4 and 5 from the USB connector?

Update
So now that froyo is out i went and bought the samsung car dock. Guess what? Still no freakin audio out of the 3.5mm jack on the dock.
Anyone else still having this issue even after DL30?
My setup:
DL09 radio
adrynalyne's Super Clean DL30 1.0 and the included kernel
Thanks

I am having the same issue i bought a shorty cable to do this and it does not work either. any ideas people?
I bought a $10 FM transmitter from Walmart and plugged it into the back of the car dock. I had to download a "TW_cardock_patch" or something like that. There's more than one thread on here on where to get the real link. It will only work if you're rooted though. Once you do that: throw the phone in the cradle, turn on the FM transmitter and you should be good. When you connect the phone to the cradle your Speaker Icon should have a line through. If it does you should be all set! Hope that helps.
The app is called dock sound redirector for anyone still curious.

Audio via micro USB port on Froyo?

Can anyone running one of the Froyo leaks confirm if the audio out via the USB port works like it should? I'd like to know before I go buy a cable.
I currently have to plug both audio and usb cables in when I get in my car and I'm looking to cut it down to just the one.
TIA
no it does not and this is the 4th post about this lately, btw. try using the search feature.
I searched "audio, usb, froyo". There were 6 results but only 1 relevant, about it not working with the media dock on 11/11. Sorry the search function missed the others, but thanks anyways. Has anyone successfully gotten it to work, might be a better question.
unfortunatly, no. no one has. the official samsung desk dock uses the usb for audio out and its still not working there either.

[Q] Dock with speakers or speaker output?

I listen to a lot of audio books while I fight insomnia at night. I'm looking for a dock for the Inspire that utilizes the headphone jack with either a pass-through so that you can hook up external speakers or, preferably, has built-in speakers. If it can also charge a spare battery, that would be even better. I can't seem to find anything like that though - even from Hong Kong. Has anyone seen anything like that?
I think we are not really seeing very many docks, so far. Which is weird since the DHD has been out there for a while. I hope the fact that there are now a bunch of Inspire's out there that we will see more docks. I'm still waiting\looking for one myself.

That is a cool idea. Anyone know if the Inspire pipes sound output through the MicroUSB?

Another option
If you can find one of these anywhere:
Sprint FIPO Bluetooth Ipod Adaptor
This works wonders. Use any iphone/ipod compatible dock.
I have an old ipd dock I use as my alarm clock and this sends sound beautifully!

Galaxy S II Vehicle Mount - Audio Pass through

so i got my new dock and with some modification i am quite happy with the results.
now the big problem i am having is that while the dock will put the skyrocket into charging mode it will not pass the audio trough the docks
has anybody achieved this or knows how to make this work?
when i have it on speaker mode playing music and put it in the dock the music will stop playing via the speakers and actually come out of the headphone jack so i believe that is a software issue and not a hardware issue.
anyways i hope that someone can help me.
thx

Looks like the Infuse 4G mount? It works pretty good if it is. It can be used with a very slim case like the TPU, but it is very tight and the USB connector will not work while in a case. If it is the Infuse mount, it will charge the phone but the Audio will not pass through the USB. It has been discussed many times (you might want to do a search on the subject) but I don't think anyone has been able to get audio through the USB yet (though I think some have tried).

I've gotten audio from my SR into my car stereo through the USB port(not the infuse mount, just a regular usb cable). It's a little tricky and weird, but I figured it out.
For me, I have the pull down menu open, connect my phone, as soon as the option to enable access pops up on the phone, I enable. Takes another 20-30 seconds and then it goes nuts with Nav information.
Then I just folder up using the radio dial and get into the music folder on my SD card (for me it is folder #53) There is no track or artist or album info, but at least it works.
I suspect the two metal connectors embedded into the volume rocker could have something to do with putting the phone into a real "car mode." The Galaxy Nexus has three dots on the side of it so it could be this or just some chrome polish.

Speaker dock not working, any suggestions?

Hello everyone. I bought a Digital Innovations universal android speaker dock. It was highly recommended by a friend and has great reviews online. When I got it the connection to my One X was spotty at best. When I would plug in the 3.5mm jack into my phone, sometimes my phone would recognize that a headphone cable was plugged in and other times it would not. I thought maybe it was the dock itself so I had it replaced. I got the new one today it does the same thing, except that I can not get the phone to recognize that the jack is plugged in at all.
I decided that I would try other devices. I plugged in an MP3 player, and it worked fine. I tried a second MP3 player and that worked too. Finally I tried an iPhone and that too worked. I cant figure out why my One X will not recognize that a headphone cable has been plugged in. If I use standard headphones the phone recognizes them immediately. Does anyone have any idea why this might be happening and what I can do about it?
This is the dock I got: http://www.digitalinnovations.com/universal-speaker-dock-for-android.html
Hi there, I'm posting from Sonr, we designed the dock you are using. This is the first time I've seen that problem. The closest I've seen was with a Sony Ericson phone that had a non standard wiring pattern on the plug, but based on what you are saying, standard headphones work. Now, just to clarify, when you say headphones, you mean like mp3 player headphones, not a phone headset, the distinction being that the headset has a built in mic. Also, when you say "standard headphones" do you mean ones that came with the phone or ones that came from another vendor (and not specifically designed for the one X).
As you can probably tell, I'm trying to isolate if the headphone jack configuration is non standard physically (like the Sony Ericson phone) or if the issue is something else.
Thanks for the response. I've now used three different types of headphones/headsets. Two were standard headphones and one was a phone headset. All three worked fine on my HTC One X.
I did find work around to get the dock to worl, but it will not work with the Sonr app. The solution was to go and buy a 3.5mm stereo plug extension. I connect the dock to that and the other end to my phone. I can now play audio from my phone through the dock, but the Sonr app will not find my phone. It's a start and I'm getting closer but I would love to be able to use the remote and built in buttons.

Ugh. I'm really sorry we didn't catch this in testing. We have plenty of other HTC phones, but not this one. It sounds like we need to acquire one. Based on what you're saying, this phone has another non standard headphone configuration, and we need an adapter for it. If you are game for helping us debug this, contact me directly at [email protected] com and I'll get you some adapters to test. Again, I apologize for the trouble.
I would gladly help out, especially if it means the possibility of me using my dock to its full capabilities. I just sent you an email and look forward to hearing back from you.
