Just purchased Transformer TF700 - Asus Transformer TF700

Hello everyone!
New here, been looking around, reading different things, and don't understand half of all of it. lol, sorry. I'm not familiar with all the different rooting, techniological specs of it. But I do know that this tablet is supposed to be the best on the market. I have a neighbor who is big into android and told me a lot and rooted my Gnex and I fell in love. Had an iPhone, but no where near what I could do with android.
I'm just trying to get a feel for it, and wondering what I can do to make it better, any apps or games that I need?
I got it from Best Buy, and wasn't sure how the return policy works. I know it's like 30 days, but how many exchanges?
There is a little bit of light bleed, but as far as I know, that is all that is wrong. No cracks, no wireless problems, etc.
Anything I need to look for to know if I should return it?
Jelly Bean is coming soon and I'm excited. Project butter is definitely nice.
I want to thank you all in advance for all your help. From what I've read on here, and all over the forums, you guys know your stuff.

I you pan to return it I'd perform a factory reset on it prior to returning it so no personal information is on the tablet.

Welcome on-board!
I'm new myself (relatively) I was never really fascinated with android beyond sharing my wife's Acer tablet.
I didn't want to mess her's up so I bought an Infinity for me.
Joining this board has really made an android junkie out of me.
The knowledge and questions brought from every corner of thought here are just unending.
I always know the answer is here somewhere.
Here's to hoping you'll have great luck with the Asus...

I've been loving my tablet so far... wondering if I should root now, or wait until the Jelly Bean update? But as you've said, this forum has made me an Android junkie.
I had to show my support by purchasing their app a couple years ago. Hopefully one day I can contribute a little more to the forums, but for now I'll just read and follow instructions until I learn a little more about developing

Honestly I'd just wait for Jelly Bean, it's only a few days away. That said, i don't think just rooting will stop the OTA (from what I've read).

[Q] Froyo on my Asus eee transformer?

I just received my Asus Transformer from Best Buy, yesterday and noticed it has android 2.2 installed. I was expecting to have honey comb. It almost looks as though I have a test unit. How do I get this thing upgraded?
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
That's not normal. You can force phone UI but that's not a feature. Is it open box? Previous owner may have fooled with it. If its really 2.2 out of box and its truley a dev unit you may be able to snag a quick buck online
Check version in settings and post.

Go to the dev section, your device could be really useful to the community. Sadly you'll have to return your transformer though.
There is a link in one of the sticky threads with other people that received a TF with Android 2.2 as well. Go read up on it.
edit: link! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1078840
I got it directly from Best Buy as soon as stock was available last friday. I didn't even realize that it wasn't Honey Comb, being this is my first tablet. I did notice immediately that there were a bunch of Asus test applications in the app list. I had read that the Asus EEE Transformer Tablet was going to be receiving 3.1 at some point in the future and while I was in the update screen, I noticed it said 2.2 as the version. I took a picture last night and attempted to post it to these forums, but because I rarely post anything, it would not let me do it.
Since it truly is a DEV unit, I'm wondering how much I could possibly sell it for.
I'd also be willing to help out the dev community as much as I can, but I can't hold onto this thing for too long if I really cant get it out of Froyo...
Screenshots
Here is the screen shots... sorry about the quality, but I figured it was legible. I obviously added a bunch of apps, but you can see the test ones included in there as well...
Wow that's neat, go post on the thread above. See what they say. You can potentially contribute allot to the community.

I actually was going to post in that thread, but I do not have enough posts to post in a developer forum. It gives me an error everytime I attempt to do so. A link to this forum would be nice, if you could do that for me.
On second thought, looks like you don't have enough posts either. DOH!
I got one of these units too. Not really helpful for devs now there are dumps. apparently a whole batch at the factory got wrong firmware installed. I had to send mine back..

[Q] ICS source release?

Sorry if this has been asked already but I don't have time to look right now and its terribly important that I get an answer. When will ICS source be released and will the devs be able to make roms from source? Anyone have an ETA on ICS roms? I've asked on IRC but they didn't seem to know and as xda is the site I thought maybe someone would have the answer.
Also.....has anyone heard what the next Android will be called? It will have to start with a J if they follow current naming. I think "Jelly Doughnut" would be neat and would bring it around to the old Doughnut release. Is there an ETA on this release? When can we expect devs to start making custom roms with this source?
I really am sorry if this has been asked already but the search function doesn't work on my tablet very well and I was confused by the results. Thank you in advance for your kind and thoughtful answers and remember that the 1st rule of XDA is to be respectful. Well its really the only rule that matters. So be kind to me please.
Lets all hit that thanks button in the developers thread to let them know how much we appreciate their hard work and if you can donate even $5 to the developer(s) it will go a long way in showing how much they mean to us.
BTW.....the next release after Jelly Doughnut would just have to be "Kiwi Shortcake" don't you think? Of course I read in another thread that Android is doomed because mobile flash is going away so maybe Ice Cream Sandwich will be the last release. Do you think Google would release all their work to the devs here at xda when Android dies so maybe someone here could continue to provide updates?
P.S. Sorry for the rambling but I am heavily medicated and unable to concentrate for more than 60 seconds which leads to me double posting and asking the same questions over and over as I tend to forget what I did 2 minutes ago.
P.S.S. One more question. When Google releases "Kiwi Shortcake" source do you think the devs will be able to root it and make custom roms. How about being able to overclock to 1 THrz?
THX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
EDIT: Couldn't remember if I asked about ICS rom ETAS but I did so just ignore this edit please
xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxox
EDIT2: Sorry for the spelling and grammer mistakes but I am from the backwoods of Oklahoma and I didn't learn much when I failed 8th grade for the 20th time last year.
Android Police reported on sth suggesting the next is Jelly Bean. That was sometime before I went on vacation in August. I personally prefer the doughnuts but 1.6/Donut makes me think the bean is more likely.
AFAIK we get source when we get it, sometime after manufactures have had time to ship stuff. I also expect we will see more complicated ICS ROMs after ASUS OTA's ICS.

Thanks for quick and thoughtful response.
thebadfrog, I keep seeing you say that Android will die, despite many more people telling you that Android is not tied to flash... Are you maintaining that stance, or are you just trying to spread discord and sorrow here?
By the way, K is definitely for Kentucky Fried Chicken. Or Kumquats.
way to much sarcasm up in here
So Android isn't tied to flash? I'm so confused. I guess I will give up then

Flash is widely used but old html5 will replace it eventually languages programming and the i.t community in general is constantly evolving so flash wont be the end and nor will html5 for that matter.
There is never an end just a new begining

No, no, no. You have to wait. All the developers now should be working on this primary (and urgent) objective: porting windows8 to tf101.
We NEED win8. Don't ask me why someone buy an android tablet only to install windows on it, but we really need it.
Yes, you are right: android can't exist without flash.
How can a mobile phone / tablet / mp3 player exists and be popular without flash player? Someone tried to engraving an apple behind it, with the intent to distract people from the lack of flash, and sell it anyway; it was just luck.

NOTE FOR ALL THE NEWBIES: thebadfrog has started his own crusade against all the "i-would-but-i-really-cant" wannabes. My post and his post, are jokes.
Don't take what you read here seriuosly. Even better: don't take anything seriously.

I haven't used flash for a week yet somehow I believe my true Android experience would be less in the last week if I didn't have flash. Thanks to everyone trying desperately to explain flash to me and how it won't affect Android. I'm so sorry for having caused everyone confusion and I respectfully beg your forgiveness.
BTW. Do you thiink they will release "Kiwi Shortcake" source anytime soon. I'm looking forward to overclocking to 1THrz
OT but if anyone brings a version of Windows anywhere near my TF, using more than a VM -> I will crack off their funny fingers off.

[Q] What's the progress on SBKv2 devices?

Hi there,
A few months back (pre prime) people were quite active on getting nvflash to work for SBKv2 devices. Now lately I barely hear news. I'm quite curious: is this dead? or is work still being done?
I really would love to get ubuntu running as atm I feel android is quite limited as a tablet OS.
Wrong section, I'm afraid...

This thread with it's replies confuses me. Was this initially posted in Android Dev? That would make sense
Nevertheless, the question still remains. I haven't heard anything about SBKv2. I wonder if it's not a lack of effort, but rather just a difficult, difficult task. You would have to ask the guys over at androidroot.mobi really...
I would like also to know were is the sbkv2.
2 questions:
- how was the first sbk key found? from what I understand it is saved in the hardware someplace that it is not readable, so there is no way it can be extracted. maybe the first was leaked from and insider as Asus? or was just the default for the tegra?
- any chance asus will provide an unlock tool for the TF101 with the one they will release for the Transformer Prime?
It was leaked.
I think it might be time to petition Asus for the rights to our device. It worked for the TF201 owners. And honestly, its ridiculous to say we shouldn't be able to know the SBK (and I'm willing to void warranty for that)
Thanks for the replies and yeh it's sadly as I feared. I guess we need to start a petition about it.
And about the mispost, yeh... kinda was in doubt when posting. As well the question IS development related my humble apologies for the mistake
btw seeing I have a dock-drain on my transformer I mailed em.. also with the inquiry about the SBK let's see how they respond
Hi everyone!
I´m also curious about that same thing, and I would be happy to sign a petition =P.
yea, noone knows whats going on?

Just luck, he must have got an sbk1 device, there is no sbk2 nvflash yet.
Where I got mine, the demo unit was B50, while the one I got was BC0KAS, I had the option to get the demo unit but It was there since few months, and many many touched and played with it, which is not very good for me.

Good, but....

Hello,
First I would like to apologize for clogging up the forums lately but I am sure anyone with a faulty deice would know it can be a little hard. I am trying not to get in the way if all of you with pretty good devices. Having said that, I am pretty pedantic and I only really see the fault with the screen, I had it round my family and they say its fine . So although I like it, the novelty has worn off and I just don't think it quite suits my needs. I think I would be better off with something like a nice phone like a Gnex or an S3. So now I have to try and sell this. I was gonna try out the XDA marketplace but 6 months as a member isn't enough. So I will attempt here. 32GB Transformer Pad Infinity without the dock and I will even throw in a case for ideally about $450-$500 AUD. Now all you Americans will think that's too much, well remember we get the $100 price hike and no 32GB model out here. So I know this is a pretty stupid place to post because everyone has an infinity but I really need to get rid of it. Maybe I could make a really good friend and possibly someone could post on behalf of me. That would be really great. Anyway, I will let you guys be the judge.
Sorry if this makes no sense, I hate touch keyboards :-[

[Q] Lollipop? Is anyone looking to develop a custom Rom for the Xoom?

I know our Xoom is getting a bit long in the tooth, but it still is one of the finest equipped pieces of hardware out there. I've been using the Omnirom 4.4.4 iteration for many months now, and love it.
How many tablets can you name that have external sdcard,HDMI, and USB capability besides the normative features most tablets have.
I think the Xoom might just might have a very good future with the next iteration of Android, Lollipop. I'd love to be able to
work on this, but if I did it, I'd have to find someone who would loan me a Xoom they have laying around unused for an extended period of time.
I don't know, but the more I think of it the more excited I become.
That's not how it works...... You are a user not a developer.... I will see what can be done when sources come out but no this is a scam! Why get a Xoom if you already have one? From a account with no rom threads started

Wasn't a scam Cameron. I have 1 Xoom that is my primary computing device with anything having to do with mobile devices. I will not have it's useability compromised.
By the way, long ago I wrote code for the Atari ST, STacy and Falcon. In the last few hours I have been able to get a second Xoom from a friend locally (he's not using it, and thought it was bricked-It wasn't, just needed help-I've got working) once I get my friend's Xoom up to speed and brush up on my coding skills I should be able to help.
Honestly, I'm 74 years old and just tired and busy enough that I'd rather not take away from my limited time to become a developer again. At this time I'd like to just be a user and return my friend's fully working Xoom to him
Cameron, It seemed like most of the developers had just gone into hiding and I was hoping to generate interest from the community..
You don't know me, or really know much about me. If you did, you'd know that I wasn't attempting to scam anyone. In fact, saying that my goal was to scam is almost criminal and libelous, but I'm not one to easily take take offense.
Just please don't do a rush to judgement again. Once you make such statements they aren't easily retracted.
I look forward to hearing from you soon. Your friend,
Rob

Thanks for the vote of confidence my friend. The Lollipop Software Development Kit (SDK) is out there. I think that I'm going to hide and watch(though I am available at any time) as far as development is concerned. There are many of us who need help, including me from time to time. I'll go back to helping when I can.

Since being on IOS since 2011 I haven't used this account ; I got on here to say thank you; you are an inspiration for the ages. As our knowledge and experience becomes "mature" it's good to see that young or wise by years; we can all work together.
By the way,
I do have a second Xoom of my own not, and am running Omnirom 5.1.1 Alpha on it. At the moment, I'm looking to see what it can, and can't do. I hope to be able to help Schischu develop this into a stable, and very complete Rom now. Even so, this alpha is very polished, fast, and smooth.
I think we're gonna love it.
Blessings,
Rob
