Hi there,
A few months back (pre prime) people were quite active on getting nvflash to work for SBKv2 devices. Now lately I barely hear news. I'm quite curious: is this dead? or is work still being done?
I really would love to get ubuntu running as atm I feel android is quite limited as a tablet OS.
Wrong section, I'm afraid...

This thread with it's replies confuses me. Was this initially posted in Android Dev? That would make sense
Nevertheless, the question still remains. I haven't heard anything about SBKv2. I wonder if it's not a lack of effort, but rather just a difficult, difficult task. You would have to ask the guys over at androidroot.mobi really...
I would like also to know were is the sbkv2.
2 questions:
- how was the first sbk key found? from what I understand it is saved in the hardware someplace that it is not readable, so there is no way it can be extracted. maybe the first was leaked from and insider as Asus? or was just the default for the tegra?
- any chance asus will provide an unlock tool for the TF101 with the one they will release for the Transformer Prime?
It was leaked.
I think it might be time to petition Asus for the rights to our device. It worked for the TF201 owners. And honestly, its ridiculous to say we shouldn't be able to know the SBK (and I'm willing to void warranty for that)
Thanks for the replies and yeh it's sadly as I feared. I guess we need to start a petition about it.
And about the mispost, yeh... kinda was in doubt when posting. As well the question IS development related my humble apologies for the mistake
btw seeing I have a dock-drain on my transformer I mailed em.. also with the inquiry about the SBK let's see how they respond
Hi everyone!
I´m also curious about that same thing, and I would be happy to sign a petition =P.
yea, noone knows whats going on?

Just luck, he must have got an sbk1 device, there is no sbk2 nvflash yet.
Where I got mine, the demo unit was B50, while the one I got was BC0KAS, I had the option to get the demo unit but It was there since few months, and many many touched and played with it, which is not very good for me.

So does this mean that the devs will be able to strip honeycomb out of the xoom easily for us g-tabers?
http://www.droid-life.com/2011/02/2...ckablerelockable-bootloader-for-development/#
That would be my assumption. Great news!
Edit:
I just saw that announcement as well. Seems like good news. I'm a little shocked honestly.

I'm sure its only a matter of time before someone yells at us for talking about honeycomb in a forum, but I too am curious about that. I know that Roebeet was answering some questions on another honeycomb thread, which I really appreciate. Seems to me, now that honeycomb is right around the corner, that some discussion about what must be done to get honeycomb on our g tabs would be useful.
Is anyone who checks this forum getting a Xoom? It would be great if a developer could let us know what might be needed from a xoom to begin work on a gtab honeycomb rom (if it is even possible). Im much more hopeful now after learning about the unlockable bootloader. I'm not asking for honeycomb tomorrow by any means, but am very curious about what steps would need to be taken to get honeycomb on the gtab. Thanks for any help!
Guys, our dev community here is one of the best. Roebeet and Rothnic are already active on the Xoom forum and inquiring/waiting/stalking for a system rom dump. ..gotta luv 'em.
See here for the Xoom forum on xda
When you start seeing threads about roms and the like on those forums, Honeycomb for the Gtab won't be far behind.
Thanks for the update!

Exactly what I was thinking. If anyone in the know could explain whats the approximate timeline for Google's releases of AOSP in relation to the release of flagship device with the corresponding update.

Read in another post here that Google has 30 days from the release of the first device running an OS before they have to release it to AOSP. again this is from a post I read and can't locate at the moment (too many Where's honeycomb threads to deal with looking through) so take it for what its worth.
Even so, would you like a rom that is a port of another device or a rom built from source using the same version of android?
I say our very own honeycomb will do!

I am also getting a Xoom tomorrow but definitely not throwing out the gtablet as it is one of the best learning development tools I have owned. I will probably be a bit more cautious with the xoom out of the gate just because of the cost, but guaranteed I will be testing Honeycomb ROMS on the gtablet as soon as they are available.
Is the only thing that we owners of locked devices is wait for a leaked key, or is there something else i can do to try to support people that could get it working? i love my tf but am sad i cant get root to the point where i almost want to return it ><
I'd go to stores around you, look for a B70KAS15 or below (to be safe...i believe the consensus is that lower B70KAS devices can root), and once you find one, return your old one.
From what i understand, there are a few people working on a way around this (or they have the new SBK--but even with the new one, they've made it harder to use).
All in all, you'll have to decide if you want to risk waiting (there's always small chance something could go awry, right?).
I see nothing wrong with going to look around and find if you can find an older B70, or anything like that.
Unrooting B70/B80 is a work in progress, check androidroot.mobi
But if I were you, I'd look for a TF with B50 or B60, then you can root your tab for sure (I did the same and was able to get a B50. A friend of mine got a B70 which can't be rooted yet).
I bought via amazon, i dont really want to return it to pay more local+tax for a maybe :/
Im new to this group of devs, how reliable is it to expect those guys at androidroot.mobi to come through and not can it haflway through? just to be clear, this question is in no way meant to be deragotive towards those guys, i just know some devs disappear (which is totally cool) and some stick around forever.

Sorry if this has been asked already but I don't have time to look right now and its terribly important that I get an answer. When will ICS source be released and will the devs be able to make roms from source? Anyone have an ETA on ICS roms? I've asked on IRC but they didn't seem to know and as xda is the site I thought maybe someone would have the answer.
Also.....has anyone heard what the next Android will be called? It will have to start with a J if they follow current naming. I think "Jelly Doughnut" would be neat and would bring it around to the old Doughnut release. Is there an ETA on this release? When can we expect devs to start making custom roms with this source?
I really am sorry if this has been asked already but the search function doesn't work on my tablet very well and I was confused by the results. Thank you in advance for your kind and thoughtful answers and remember that the 1st rule of XDA is to be respectful. Well its really the only rule that matters. So be kind to me please.
Lets all hit that thanks button in the developers thread to let them know how much we appreciate their hard work and if you can donate even $5 to the developer(s) it will go a long way in showing how much they mean to us.
BTW.....the next release after Jelly Doughnut would just have to be "Kiwi Shortcake" don't you think? Of course I read in another thread that Android is doomed because mobile flash is going away so maybe Ice Cream Sandwich will be the last release. Do you think Google would release all their work to the devs here at xda when Android dies so maybe someone here could continue to provide updates?
P.S. Sorry for the rambling but I am heavily medicated and unable to concentrate for more than 60 seconds which leads to me double posting and asking the same questions over and over as I tend to forget what I did 2 minutes ago.
P.S.S. One more question. When Google releases "Kiwi Shortcake" source do you think the devs will be able to root it and make custom roms. How about being able to overclock to 1 THrz?
THX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
EDIT: Couldn't remember if I asked about ICS rom ETAS but I did so just ignore this edit please
xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxox
EDIT2: Sorry for the spelling and grammer mistakes but I am from the backwoods of Oklahoma and I didn't learn much when I failed 8th grade for the 20th time last year.
Android Police reported on sth suggesting the next is Jelly Bean. That was sometime before I went on vacation in August. I personally prefer the doughnuts but 1.6/Donut makes me think the bean is more likely.
AFAIK we get source when we get it, sometime after manufactures have had time to ship stuff. I also expect we will see more complicated ICS ROMs after ASUS OTA's ICS.

thebadfrog, I keep seeing you say that Android will die, despite many more people telling you that Android is not tied to flash... Are you maintaining that stance, or are you just trying to spread discord and sorrow here?
By the way, K is definitely for Kentucky Fried Chicken. Or Kumquats.
way to much sarcasm up in here

Flash is widely used but old html5 will replace it eventually languages programming and the i.t community in general is constantly evolving so flash wont be the end and nor will html5 for that matter.
There is never an end just a new begining

No, no, no. You have to wait. All the developers now should be working on this primary (and urgent) objective: porting windows8 to tf101.
We NEED win8. Don't ask me why someone buy an android tablet only to install windows on it, but we really need it.
Yes, you are right: android can't exist without flash.
How can a mobile phone / tablet / mp3 player exists and be popular without flash player? Someone tried to engraving an apple behind it, with the intent to distract people from the lack of flash, and sell it anyway; it was just luck.

Thanks to everyone trying desperately to explain flash to me and how it won't affect Android. I'm so sorry for having caused everyone confusion and I respectfully beg your forgiveness.
BTW. Do you thiink they will release "Kiwi Shortcake" source anytime soon. I'm looking forward to overclocking to 1THrz
OT but if anyone brings a version of Windows anywhere near my TF, using more than a VM -> I will crack off their funny fingers off.

1) ICS was confirmed to Asus to come this month.
2) unwritten rule of development. Do not ask for ETAs. It'll get here when it gets here.
to add to the post above
3) it is a written rule to search before posting
4) there is a thread called 'Asus once again confirms ics for february' right here within eye sight of the 'new thread button'
5) that's funny right there
Sorry my bad;/
To add to the above: Any release date you're told, even by Asus themselves, is a work of total fiction. They've already claimed just about every date you can imagine, and the only consistent thing is that there will be another statement from Asus within a week, contradicting the previous one.
Today, it's Asus France, saying "not til the end of February".
I'd guess early-mid March is optimistic, late March is realistic.
Funny thing you made a thread about this, considering this is the only thing which has been discussed in this forum since new years, and even before that.
You'd think it would be easy to find existing news on this

I agree. Make sure to search the forum before making new threads.
It will come when it comes
I really wish that xda would force new members to physically type the sentence, " i will use the search function before posting a new thread" in order to activate their account. This would drastically cut down on the number 1 most violated rule.
Can you get to the recovery menu? vol down and power?
If so grab one of the updates from the asus download page pop it onto your microsd extract it so that you see /asus/update/filename
reboot to recovery and that should do it..... if it doesnt take the file from /asus/update rename it EP101_SDUPDATE.zip and try again.

This will get Asus to open up:
Everyone send a message via Twitter to @Asus stating "Is the TF101 ICS OTA still confirmed for Feb 14?"
You know, they said mid Feb so we can hold them to the 14th. This will get them to fess up and give is a revised date. It will also cause them to wonder if @Asus gave the public a Feb 14 date at some point, second guessing themselves. Lol.

Hello everyone!
New here, been looking around, reading different things, and don't understand half of all of it. lol, sorry. I'm not familiar with all the different rooting, techniological specs of it. But I do know that this tablet is supposed to be the best on the market. I have a neighbor who is big into android and told me a lot and rooted my Gnex and I fell in love. Had an iPhone, but no where near what I could do with android.
I'm just trying to get a feel for it, and wondering what I can do to make it better, any apps or games that I need?
I got it from Best Buy, and wasn't sure how the return policy works. I know it's like 30 days, but how many exchanges?
There is a little bit of light bleed, but as far as I know, that is all that is wrong. No cracks, no wireless problems, etc.
Anything I need to look for to know if I should return it?
Jelly Bean is coming soon and I'm excited. Project butter is definitely nice.
I want to thank you all in advance for all your help. From what I've read on here, and all over the forums, you guys know your stuff.
I you pan to return it I'd perform a factory reset on it prior to returning it so no personal information is on the tablet.
