[Q] Lollipop? Is anyone looking to develop a custom Rom for the Xoom? - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I know our Xoom is getting a bit long in the tooth, but it still is one of the finest equipped pieces of hardware out there. I've been using the Omnirom 4.4.4 iteration for many months now, and love it.
How many tablets can you name that have external sdcard,HDMI, and USB capability besides the normative features most tablets have.
I think the Xoom might just might have a very good future with the next iteration of Android, Lollipop. I'd love to be able to
work on this, but if I did it, I'd have to find someone who would loan me a Xoom they have laying around unused for an extended period of time.
I don't know, but the more I think of it the more excited I become.

That's not how it works...... You are a user not a developer.... I will see what can be done when sources come out but no this is a scam! Why get a Xoom if you already have one? From a account with no rom threads started

Wasn't a scam Cameron. I have 1 Xoom that is my primary computing device with anything having to do with mobile devices. I will not have it's useability compromised.
By the way, long ago I wrote code for the Atari ST, STacy and Falcon. In the last few hours I have been able to get a second Xoom from a friend locally (he's not using it, and thought it was bricked-It wasn't, just needed help-I've got working) once I get my friend's Xoom up to speed and brush up on my coding skills I should be able to help.
Honestly, I'm 74 years old and just tired and busy enough that I'd rather not take away from my limited time to become a developer again. At this time I'd like to just be a user and return my friend's fully working Xoom to him
Cameron, It seemed like most of the developers had just gone into hiding and I was hoping to generate interest from the community..
You don't know me, or really know much about me. If you did, you'd know that I wasn't attempting to scam anyone. In fact, saying that my goal was to scam is almost criminal and libelous, but I'm not one to easily take take offense.
Just please don't do a rush to judgement again. Once you make such statements they aren't easily retracted.
I look forward to hearing from you soon. Your friend,
Rob

I am simply a "user" also but I can attest to the fact that I have seen numerous posts from Kingsman1 in other Xoom forums and he is always there to help others with questions or problems they are having with their tablet.

Thanks for the vote of confidence my friend. The Lollipop Software Development Kit (SDK) is out there. I think that I'm going to hide and watch(though I am available at any time) as far as development is concerned. There are many of us who need help, including me from time to time. I'll go back to helping when I can.
Blessings to all,
Rob

And add another vote from me - I have seen and read many a helpful Kingsman post in these forums - I wish I had some sort of useful skills other than flashing other peoples hard work or I would help - hope this generates the desired response from some other motivated developers - best of luck Sir Rob -

me also
have been running CM11 nighties for some time now but also think it would be cool to see some lollipop love for our xoom.

Yes please !

Since being on IOS since 2011 I haven't used this account ; I got on here to say thank you; you are an inspiration for the ages. As our knowledge and experience becomes "mature" it's good to see that young or wise by years; we can all work together.

By the way,
I do have a second Xoom of my own not, and am running Omnirom 5.1.1 Alpha on it. At the moment, I'm looking to see what it can, and can't do. I hope to be able to help Schischu develop this into a stable, and very complete Rom now. Even so, this alpha is very polished, fast, and smooth.
I think we're gonna love it.
Blessings,
Rob

Feeling impatient

I've had my phone 2 weeks and run out of things to do to it. Where's the roms? froyo where are you ?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Well I can't wait for froyo + full file system lag fix
If you're not satisfied with the current rate of development, feel free to put together your own rom or even contribute to current development. The phone is what, two, three months old? Some phones didn't even have root methods for that long. If you wanted an att device that had a background of strong community hacking, should have gone with an htc device. The method of building roms on this phone is massively different and requires time to get everything sorted. And I'm willing to believe a lot of devs are waiting fur for the 2.2 source

You're saying you're impatient for new roms, implying you are not satisfied with your current options. There are several people doing fantastic work on our phones and you're belittling their work. Even jokingly.

I think you are taking this entire thread the wrong way.
I think the OP is trying to say that he has done all he can, where is something new? More things to play with.
Nowhere did he belittle or offend anyone. Nor was anything implied.
I have had my phone for 7 weeks - I want to see even more new ROMs -but in no way am I saying anything about anyone. I can't wait for the first Cyanogenmod either - I am impatient, just like I was when waiting for the Captivate launch day.
+10 on the "lighten up Francis"
Looks to me like you are a good candidate to get in the kitchen and start cooking. That way you don't have to wait around for the roms and we can all play.
I don't think it's a matter of lightening up, I agree the op surely said "where are the roms?" That could have ben interpreted more than one way, which it was. Coming from the op of the forum nazi thread, sounds like you have plenty of time to start cooking and stop whining

Hey gunny, I know how you feel. I too am a bit bored. The rom development is great so far but that's starting to reach it's limit with what devs can do while we wait for froyo. I would love something new to play with. Maybe flash or some awesome game to come along that really pushes this device. Gps fix from sammysung would be nice. I could drive around using that to kill some boredom.
Anyway, props to the devs. Thank god we have some good ones. I would have been bored weeks ago without and with a laggy phone on top of that.
I understand both sides but unfortunately unless you know how to dev we all must be patient. These guys have done very good work and so far it is right on par with the Vibrant, and we all know T-mobile has many more dev's to work on ROMS. With more time will come better products, and all Galaxy S phones will be waiting for a while for 2.2. If Cyanogen comes out soon it shouldn't be hard for Eugene or someone to make a port of it, even if Eugene does not own a Captivate.
There's no need to fight guys, in all seriousness we have the best touch-screen phone on the whole market!
Gorgeous screen, specs, and soon to be a great international community of devs with the whole family of galaxy s line sharing ideas and accelerating the growth of development at a great pace.
Not to mention the soon to be implemented froyo that will not only introduce optimizations and flash, but also allow for a greater use of the phone's potential- spec wise.
Take into consideration the further development after froyo + full lag fix + a COMMUNITY effort of collaboration and I see a really bright future ahead of us.
Personally I LOVE my phone, it does everything I want it to do (I multi-task like a beast!!) BEAUTIFUL camera software.. I painlessly take panoramic shots! What more can you ask for?
Yes some high quality games compared to that of the iphone would be great, but the anti-piracy measures are not on par with the iphone at the moment, so we'll have to wait a little for the big-name app/game developers to step in.

I don't know what you mean by "all of my posts recently have had attitude." I generally answer any questions asked and follow it up with any advice I can offer. threads like this where, even unintentionally, the OP is kind of being dismissive toward the excellent work Unhelpful, DG, eugene (and a slew of others who I have forgotten to name).
it'd be fine if he was just opening a thread to say "I'm excited for something new! can't wait for froyo! woo!" it's that the attitude of this is "I'm bored with all the work everyone else has done." especially when it's someone who doesn't contribute to development (not counting donations, I have no idea if he has donated) himself. I just want people to be grateful for what they have right now... there's no need a open a thread saying "I want more but I want others to do the work"
Dude. Quit reading into stuff that isn't there. As for donated monies, I have indeed done so in the past. Lots. I HAVE NOT (REPEATING AGAIN) disparaged anyone or their work in my thread or any post I have ever made hear on XDA (feel free to search) If I am complaining about anything it's samsung, And YOU at the moment.
I'll say again then I'm done in this thread. Lighten up Francis.

Everyone take 5 deep breaths......
Better now?
And Kaik, I am NOT directing this at you personally, just used your quote. This is meant as a general comment not directed at any specific person....
Ok, I clicked on this thread because I could have written it myself, as it was intended. Which was obviously "Ok, I tried all the mods and now I want to try a new one or an update of 1 I already have."
For instance, as you can see from my signature, I run sre123. Last night, Designgears posted that 123a would be posted that night. I thought nothing of saying "ooo, can't wait, please hurry!!!" because DG knows how I meant it (I hope).
I have only seen a couple of REAL jerk posts, and those were like "hey thanks, your mod/rom broke my phone" idiots. Read the OP's and mod and your own risk, fools!
I have NEVER programmed. I understand what gets done here, having been a pc tech, but I can ONLY help by installing and testing and reporting results. This device and this forum has inspired me to try to learn what the guys like Cyanogen, Designgears, Eugene etc do. But until I learn, I will eagerly await new stuff to play with, much like the OP of this thread.
Sorry to type so long a note, but the ONLY thing that can ruin this forum is nazi's. I live in S Florida, got enough condo and homeowner association nazi's to deal with !!! =)

I wonder why that is. Dosn't seem intuitive that would be the case. TM is a much smaller carrier, with much less coverage. I can't imagine (of course maybe I'm short on imagination) that there are more people on the TM version than the Captivate.
I too am impatient. But the impatience is for the GPS Fix.
Gunny...I'm with you. Seems many people just try to take everything the wrong way. Of course, the fact is, writing things and having them read, the reader doesn't know what your mood is, and it is a fact that if it can be taken wrong, it will be by some.
If I had the time to invest, I'd get into the ROMs. In fact I started to get into DEV. Downloaded the tools, did a couple weeks playing. But my programming has never expanded to Java, and the learning curve is too large, so I guess I won't. I'd enjoy it, but being at the computer all the time is not how I want to spend my time. I already spend a lot of time on it.
Regarding the DEVs, I appreciate them, and enjoy their work, and contribute occasionally to those I tend to utilize and keep using. But that doesn't diminish my right to be impatient. All customers are, no?
I want the GPS fix. All Galaxy S phones come with a nonfunctioning GPS. Froyo will be great to have also but they need hurry up with the GPS. The Droid X and all Motorola Android phones have an awesome GPS out of the box. I'm hoping Samsung gets it together otherwise they're not worth buying if it lacks a feature that most phones nowadays have. This problem from Samsung shows they rush things out to fast and then once they're out they fail to repair phones currently released.
I'll be eating my words if an update gets released within a week though.

From what I have read about Dev's and Tmobile is mainly because Tmob was the first to have Android. Lots of them are familiar from being already on Tmob. But that is just what I have read, does not necessarily make it correct. The dev's for the Captivate are doing a phenomenal job getting us great products.
Highlighted portion: Joking aside since I know you are, if people are impatient they really should start learning how to do this stuff. The intent of the thread missed the mark based on how it was written. We all want more ROM's or theme's or launchers etc...and they are coming but nobody has any say to be impatient when the majority of these dev's do these on a donation basis. How bad would it suck when people continue to feel impatient and the dev's decide to not dev anymore?

I tried running the Froyo version on my N1 anyway, but it Force Closes as soon as trying to open the app.
Any ETA on a Gingerbread version? I'm quite eager to try your product!
They said a GB compatible copy will be along soon.
I really wanted to try it but it force closes on me.
Always wanted to tryout multi-touch...

They included the complete libwebcore.so in there effectively including a complete web browser in their so called mouse driver. What up with that?
Just sitting and clapping my hands :]
looks wonderfulll .. Did anyone try it already ? does it seem safe and real?
btw: So I've understood that it is a browser like dolphin and others. .. does it include Flash? (btw does it have hebrew as other browsers?)
Hi xda-developers,
Hope you are enjoying flying the web with PadKite, the first multitouch mobile mouse.
Yes, it is a web browser. It includes extended Webkit libraries that makes it heavier. Hopefully these will be able to be submitted into the WebKit build on the near future. The application does not include Flash for the moment and does not run on top of the OS or other applications. As a new concept we are starting small running as a stand alone browser aiming to grow bigger. We are braking the mold on multi-touch interaction and that has to be gradually. As you might have notized it has a lot of potential.
Currently we are making adjustments in order to run in all versions. This requires a lot of effort however it will allow PadKite to run in almost all devices. If you want to run on a Gingerbread version, let us know via our contact form and it will be delivered shortly.
Some users have experienced problems with Android versions of FRG83D and FRG83. We are currently looking into this and we will come up with a solution shortly. If you have problems, running PadKite on your Froyo, please contact us via our contact form too or join our beta program. We need as much information as possible from our users (especially your Logcat). Also, take part in our beta program and you will be the first to get updated on new versions.
Please follow PadKite on Twitter and get up-to-date info on new builds at padkite account.
Thanks for helping us make PadKite even better!
Cheers,
Jose Vigil
RoamTouch CEO
looks great, I'm looking forward to trying it when its available for Gingerbread.. also it would be great to get the adobe flash integration working.. But looks like a great concept, original and useful.
Bumping this, as it is a clear winner as a productivity tool, but so few people seem to have heard about it. I'm a huge fan, and that's based on only having seen the videos, as well as it partially working on a mate's Xperia X8 (the X8 lacks multi-touch, so is unable to take advantage of some of the more powerful features, such as text-selection via second finger-rotation, although as a pointer it works perfectly)!
Hoping they get back to me soon with an offer into the Beta program, as I'm dying to get this app! Also hoping they take it further, and fast, so that it becomes an integral Android feature, rather than just a browser tool.
This is a game-changer, people, so get on board and bring your family and friends!

Don't hold your breath on this one buddy. I gave up. I recieved 6 APK's from the dev...not one of the worked. FC every time. I was working on it with him for quite a time, and it never worked. Seems to only work on one or two phones.
Won't be holding my breath, but certainly won't be abandoning hope! If those who have been able to get it working could post details of which model phones they have, as well as the models that haven't worked, plus current Android version, the devs might be able to narrow the issue down. Not sure if I'm able to start a new thread, being a noob and all, so if people could list the following in this thread it would go a long way towards getting us what we want:
Phone model
Android version (stock or rooted)
Whether it worked or not, and if not, at what stage it crashed, plus any further comments.

Send the dev any info you like...it didn't help. I was in contact with him for a few weeks. I don't 'abandon hope' unless it's time to abandon it. After emailing back and forth for a few weeks, then not hearing back from the dev for the last 3 months, I would say it's abandonment time.

Well thank you SO much for your diplomacy. You must be new here. I was just sharing my findings. Did you even notice the last post before you necro'd this crappy app...was from Feb??? There is a reason for that.
Good luck with getting things figured out around here.
Crappy app, perhaps, but only in terms of its failing to work for most who've tried it thus far. The idea itself is a brilliant one, I believe!

95% of brilliance is implementation.
I can think of a bazillion good app ideas...but making them actually work is where the real skill is. I am upset with padkite because they seem to have spent all this time on making a website and sharing the idea...then they spent 2 minutes actually BUILDING the app...and it's garbage.
This looks fantastic. I downloaded and try to join beta program, to improve your software.
And 14mb is nothing, nowdays phones have 1gb or so of ROM space. Or move it to SD card.

Are you suggesting that they faked the videos of padKite working on the Motorola (Droid?) phone? Because unless they did indeed fake the videos, then they had the app working on at least one phone! Obviously more than 2 minutes were spent, and I'm guessing the problem to be overcome is actually a rather minor yet befuddling one.
As stated earlier, I've seen padKite partially working on a mate's Xperia X8, so we aren't talking vaporware, here. Please, Mean Mr Mustard, change your heart and let hope in, and encourage others to do the same, instead of working against what you've already acknowledged is something good enough to upset you by virtue of not working for you.
There must be some out there who've been able to get padKite at least partially working. Chime in, fellows, and let's make this fairy well again!

C'mon ppl! Looks like I am right to forego updating to gingerbread. Obviously there are few and far in between who actually know what the hell they are doing! No user manuals no documentation not a single authoritative source.
I am impressed with how unimpressive the situation is. It is my understanding that the best you guys can do is flash ROMs and comment on how pretty the colors are! Folks, wake up and get organized. I have never seen so many people begging to be hacked in my life!
Calling all hackers! Calling all hackers! Welcome to paradise!
I have seen the promised land!
Give me a break. When you guys find 10 developers who are willing to team up and work under the guidance of a single project manager I will take your ROM seriously. How much more work could be done If you all didn't have to work out the same problems on your own?
You can have your variety and your pretty colors. I would much rather have a phone that works completely and runs better than anything else in the market! Without the back doors and hidden rootkits of course.
I'm sticking with fro yo until I find a group of people capable of administering my device for me. And I've got news for all you flashers. My phone will always have more capability than yours even with the latest and greatest updates because I know what the hell I'm doing with it. 99.9 percent of you don't even know what POSIX is or even how to use it. You couldn't catch hacker 1 if you wanted to. But I bet you can tell me all about what rom released last night.

Lol. That is too funny.
It's called read only memory (ROM.) But they keep over writing it! Proof that it wasn't worth over writing in the first place.

What do you talking about man?
I'm closing this for three reasons.
First and foremost! Wrong section! This is for DEVELOPMENT! What does that mean? When you DEVELOP something... post it in this forum. Simple.
This is a pointless thread that's going nowhere but flameville.
If I don't do it now... I'll regret it later.

No freaking out!!!

So guys I now have my SGS III, and I may be in and out for a while, and not giving 100% in here for a little while.
I have NOT gotten rid of the Atrix 2, and I still LOVE this device and will be working on it for a while.
In fact I have a treat for you guys. I will be uploading the system.img of my SGS III to my dropbox, I will link it here in the dev section when it is uploaded, so that any of our ROM devs in here can start porting it, over, I would hope...
By the way I am still finishing up the all in one script for every one, and it should be ready for testing later this week or over this weekend. It will be for a batch file for windows, a shell script for linux and mac users.
Bittersweet news... But, thank you for all of your pioneering work on the A2!! Hope we still see you around here now and again (though understandably less frequent). Also, thanks in advance for the sgs3 system.img!
And when you're relaxing in the metaphorical bathtub with your new Sammy, and you have that Archimedes moment with the A2 bootloader... do let us know, won't you? Until then, we'll keep up the good fight.
Indeed, Jim, you are very much a highly appreciated "resident expert" here on the ATRIX 2 side, but I fully I understand you're wanting to play with the new toy -and, admittedly, I am a bit envious of you! But, as alteredlikeness stated, we'll keep plugging away in your semi-absence.
You've been an invaluable resource for n00bs and developers and everyone in between, and for that I (we) thank you yet again for all you've done for us all!
Can't wait to hear back from you periodically, and wish you the best of luck with the SGS3 -I know you will enjoy tearing it apart and making the development of it nothing short of amazing!

Oh I am not going anywhere.... I am just focusing SOME of my dev efforts on this new device which is not even officially in stores until Thursday....
Heck 916x10, pre-ordered his at BB on 6-5 and he still does not have his yet, so....
I am still working on the A2, I have not dropped everything that i was working on, to just focus a short period on the SGS 3. I am just for the next several weeks to a month, going to make myself a little more scarce on this forum, while I get my new kernel(s) and CM9 fully up over there, for the SGS 3. I already have a pre-alpha version of CM9 and 2 different accelerated kernels that I am going to be testing this week.... The SGS 3 is just so easy to develop for.
There is still so much to be done over here, and there have been some great strides made with kexec by the CyanogenMod devs, and some of the guys I am working with over in the SGS3 forum. I want to look into some of this for my next hack over here, in a few weeks.
We have been honored to have your insight, talent and patience.
See you soon, God speed my good man!

Very nice. And I'm sure you'll open a lot of eyes over in the sgs3 forum..
I happened to pop in there today to see what they've (now you've) got going on over there as far as development, and I ran across one if your posts and noticed you got yourself root already while others are still struggling with that.
Also, a while ago I read somewhere that Samsung makes more "hacker friendly" Androids, so to speak - does that hold some sort of truth to it? If so, we should've kept my wife's Infuse (which we traded in for another A2)..

Yes that has always been true, they give cyanogen the first of each new phone for dev purposes. People say he is a sudo Samsung employee.
My captivate had root and roms and even cm5 after 3 weeks of release.

Jim,
I'll look forward to seeing you on these forums hopefully, from time to time. It's a ton of fun with you around, like some big bodyguard type, to keep the riff-raff out, and the regulars in shape.
If I'm ever in the Dallas area, I'll try to get in touch, maybe have a beer. I'm slow moving, but I'm still working on some of the big ideas I've had, with documentation, and some kind of system for matching junior assistants with senior developers, as a method of training, and creating efficiency in getting work done -- but I thought, maybe expand it out to all motorola devices, so that if the petition doesn't succeed, perhaps enough dev's working together can find strategies to circumvent the bootloader lockdown.
I'm looking forward to your script ;-)
Best Regards,
Paul

Hopefully tomorrow is the day :fingers-crossed: I hate BB and will never shop there again, except for when i'm trying to figure out what I want to buy off Amazon and need to see the item in person.

1000 Posts: A Thank You

Well, this is my 1000th post on XDA and at the time or writing I have 504 thanks. I just wanted to take a moment to thank everyone in this community that I have grown so much from.
When I got my first smartphone in January 2012 I was only slightly familiar with the idea of rooting and modifications. When deciding what phone to buy, I never really looked for how good it was for development, but settled on the Atrix 2 due to its relatively good stats, and low price. For about a month I did nothing, not waning to kill my warranty. around March I decided to root my phone, more for the hell of it than anything else. it went smoothly although my heart was beating faster than I thought possible during the process as I watched my precious phone reboot in the hands of an unknown script claiming to give me further access to the phones internals.
After this I screwed around for a bit with some mods, but nothing serious. Some time around April I decided to install a custom rom. I spent hours googling and learning how to do it without breaking anything, then meticulously followed the guide to install SCV5, what seemed like the best rom at the time. All went well and I enjoyed my new look and feel for a while, until a new rom appeared that I wanted to try. Confident of my abilities, I was slightly less careful, and somehow ended up soft bricking my phone. I had a minor panic attack, but after a few hours of reading guides and asking questions I was able to fxz back to stock and get to the new Lithium rom.
I didn't start doing any development work until about a year ago, when I began tweaking some roms and building my own mods. I bootlooped countless times and became fully capable of recovering in my sleep within a short period of time. In June or July ICS began to hit and the kind helpful forums I had grown familiar turned more into a flame war filled hell hole. This truly made me sad as I tried to expand my dev knowledge working around the huge amount of disrespect and carelessness that filled our community. This slowly became better and I can safely say now that the community has become its old self again.
The point here is that I have learned more from this community than probably anything else I have done in my life. I have now helped multiple people with installing custom roms, and have written a few mods, a few apps, and worked on building android from source (albeit not very successfully).
I am especially thankful to @jimbridgman, @rdavisct, @JRW 28, @alteredlikeness, @cogeary and anyone else I forgot that ran this place before I appeared, and helped me out when I needed it without killing me for asking so may questions.
Thank you all and I hope the new-found love for this phone continues and we can continue to improve our device with the best in software and hardware hacks.
Your post is a great example of what XDA is about. It is also a great example of what people in here can do when they put their mind to something and do not go off half cocked or not reading and understanding before doing.
It is great to have you here, and you have contributed a good bit to this community, as well. Thank You!
Oh yeah I remember my 1000th post, it was one of those ill gotten ICS arguments that caused hell around here... so enjoy yours!
Conrgats on the big 1,000 only 9,000 more to go lol.....

I gave you your first thanks, now go get 500+ more and catch up to me.
How old are you lkrasner if you don't mind me asking? I actually envy you, because you've come so far is so little time. I actually wanted to get into dev'ing myself after I installed my first custom rom (HTC Aria), however I must have had delusions of grandeur, I never made it past building from source and I was overwhelmed. I must've gotten a lot dumber in my old age (almost 29), I just can't grasp new things like I could when I was younger.

Well, I'll say I'm quite a bit younger than that! It just takes trial and error. I have a lot of trouble with source too, there is so much for android. I would recommend app development. learning java is pretty straight forward, and you can sure get a lot out of it. Android apps are pretty much pure java with added android libraries, so if you learn it, you can apply your knowledge to programming for computers too. There are plenty of online resources to help you learn, and lots of books. If you really want to get good quick, you could always pay some money and take an online class from a university of something.

In your old age, at almost 29? I can barely remember being almost 29. That was a full decade ago....

I think it's inspiring to see someone that has come so far on such a short amount of time, regardless of age. I'm impressed. Well done.
Brought to you by time and relative dimensions in space.
edit: nothing here .
My story is very similar... This was also my first smartphone in January 2012, and those same people mentioned in the OP were a big influence, help, and encouragement - (including @lfaber06 (though I came after his presence), the young jedi @lkrasner, other forum members, and, of course, my wife )
But I am not juggling schoolwork anymore like some of these younger guys here.. Just job, family, life, etc.. or in a different order... And then I lost it all because of Android.. just joking.. Not yet at least :\
Also, I remember JRW 28 once told me how, for him, things would just start "clicking" and making sense.. And then, with a lot of research and trial and error, I just kept hearing those clicks and making connections.. Or was continuously looking for them. And here we are.
Another thing is that you learn something better when you show others how to do it.. And that's what these forums are for - learning, helping, and contributing.
Btw, I have no idea what my 1000th post was..

Yeah, you came after me and somehow came out ahead. I remember talking some when you were first here, and I was still more experienced. Then, to be honest, I was even a little mad when you became better than me. LOL. anyways, congratulations, as you have done some damn good work for us around here.
Well if everyone else is confessing...
Then bless me xda for I had sinned...
I joined xda-developers on 22 September 2012(had to check my profile for this) and I was more of a noob than anyone.Atrix 2 was(infact is)my first smartphone experience. And as my first post I posted in two different forums(or maybe it was three) with a simple problem of soft brick. A few guys(@41rw4lker @devilhunter47 and some others too) came to my rescue and some others came down harsh on me but I got my phone unbricked.A wonderful feeling that was.
Ever since I've been searching, digging, experimenting and consequently learning in the process and the more I learned the more I had respect for this site and the work done by individuals in it.So I began giving that little of my knowledge gained back to the community.I started small with sharing some links.Telling people about the solutions I had read somewhere.
And this kept on growing till one day I bricked my phone again and at that time there was no tested solution for Atrix 2 to unbrick. Then tcf posted a very shady method and I decided what the hell let's give it a try and after some mind boggling and help from the wizards of Atrix 2 @alteredlikeness @jimbridgman) I became the first one to unbrick Atrix 2 at that time.So that was another level of joy. That gave me the boost to really try out things and help other since then I've tried my best to help out and the story goes on...
As far as the big players go they were @rdavisct @alteredlikeness @jimbridgmansome others too @lkrasner @Apex_strider were among the senior members who seemed to know the answer to every query. This community has always been the helping one as i've seen how hard the noobs are trolled at other forums.
But my extended thanks goes out to @alteredlikeness coz he has always been the support which I(and if i'm correct many others)could just trust to fall back to.He's always had my back.If it weren't for how patiently he hears the problem and how simple he makes them sound i'd still be thinking twice before rooting or flashing a ROM.
Well I can say that i've grown from a noob to a Recognized Noob now thanks to all you guys...
And when I saw this thread I was on the brink of my 1000 post and was determined to post here but then someone threw me a problem and I guess I forgot that I had to save up for here and ended up assisting someone in unbricking his phone.
And yeah i'm still stuck with studies

May the -Mass times Acceleration-be with You...
I wanted this to be my 500th post if not the 1000th.. Well as all others said here, mine too has been a real fun ride.. The Atrix 2 is my 1st android.. Two days after I bought it, I rooted it (though I had no idea what rooting was exactly.. ).. A few more days went by and I seriously screwed my device up.. I was damn lucky as the FXZ were released just 2 days ago! Watched quite a lot of youtube videos on how to use RSD Lite.. Now that I think about it, I realize how easy that was.. still, It was a no risk ( where I live, we do not get devices on contract. payed 23K INR or about 460$..) So I finally tried FXZing and it so happened, the webtop image (grfs.img) of the Searet was corrupt or so.. It always used to fail at that point.. now I could feel my blood pumping.. Quite scary.. Just when I thought things couldnt get worse, LOW BATTERY! Nature really has a way to say "Challenge Accepted" doesn't it? Well did the McGyuver method.. Used an adapter instead of a micro.. and this time I just opened up the xml file and deleted the line with the webtop image.. Flashed.. And VOILA! IT BOOTED UP!!:laugh: Well that was my first Hackery I guess..
Well, back in those days this forum was a volcano! Very volatile.. There used to be hell lot of flamewars.. And I just happened to fall into a nasty one.. So I pretty much made myself scarce around here.. Used to read a lot and try things out myself.. I did quite a lot of things trying to crack the bootloader.. Hard bricked my device trying.. Luckily I still had warranty for a month left.. And got it fixed.. The mother board was replaced and it turned out to be a boon in disguise.. It came back with a 1.2GHz processor instead of the original 1GHz.. I did find some interesting things regarding the bootloader though.. But not enough..
An year later, things had changed quite a bit and I started appearing again.. It so happened, some asked for a rom that was a mix up of pa, cm and aokp.. And @alteredlikeness mentioned about Pac.. Well, I took it up.. Special thanks to alteredlikeness for guiding me with my first source built rom.. Well, once I got pac booting, there was nothing holding me back from trying more things out.. I then started looking into the Razr forums.. Started trying the kexec roms.. well, my cid got wiped of course.. But I had my backup.. Well, the razr's cm-10.1 did actually boot up once.. Then didn't the next time.. It was quite confusing.. Well this was the "great blank screen issue" lol.. Then again, time went by.. Things got better..
My thanks to everyone from this forum.. specially @alteredlikeness.. I am kinda addicted to XDA now..
Thanks Guys
