Not everyone is dishonest you know! The OP clearly states that it was his own fault - why should the retailer and/or Asus pay for his mistakes?? Man, the level of dishonesty around here just amazes me!

Hairdryer. Just don't hold it too close, hardware dislikes intense heat.
Or as the_game_master says, submerge it in rice.
Or just leave it to dry in a warm, dry environment for a week or so.

I could see my self doing this as i love to cook and some times instead of getting a hard copy I just use my tablet for the recipe for what I am cooking so yeah maybe I shouldn't do that no offence but I don't want to end up having the same issue as you I cant afford a new one.

Actually, Acetone can be used to clean electronics. Provided you don't run electricity through it whilst wet, it shoudl be fine when you dry it.
Nail polish remover is probably the safest thing to spill over your keyboard. 'Safest' being relative, of course.

Wish i knew this yesterday
I reacted quickly and didnt think much had gotten into the kybrd....and it was wrking for awhile , then i started getting jibberish .....the keys produce all the wrong results,,,,,,,,maybe if i hadnt continued to use it.........too late now....tried it this mrng...still jibberish)

(I own an old samsung netbook, with spill proof keyboard ....always thought that was a brilliant feature !!)

That stinks man. My keyboard dock survived a coke zero bath for several minutes (I still don't know how it happened) thanks to the rice-trick. I think since it's a diet soda it didn't do as much damage as it could have, but nonetheless, I'm just glad it's still working perfectly 6 months later.

[Q] Power button broke. Am I hosed?

I finally got my Eee Pad from NewEgg, and I was generally pretty happy with it for the week I've had it so far. Just this morning though, I bumped into my door while holding it and the power button got swiped. Now there's a visible dent in the area around the button, and the power button itself appears to be broke. When I press it down, there's no longer the "click" that you would expect when you press the button. And of course, it no longer turns on.
Needless to say, I'm pretty irate right now. I didn't really bump into the door hard at all, and I would consider this damage to be normal wear and tear. Can anybody recommend a course of action here? Should I attempt to repair it myself, or should I just go ahead and RMA it right now? Even though NewEgg says they have a replacement only policy for the Eee Pad, the rep I talked to said if they don't have any in stock at the time the RMA is processed, it'll turn into a refund instead.

I don't think you can get a replacement or refund from newegg...but give it a shot. Maybe your transformer is just in the "sleep mode of death" Have you tried to hold the button down for more than 10 seconds, wait a minute, then hold the power down again for 5 seconds to turn it back on?
No offence but thats not normal wear and tear, that's accidental/negligence. Not covered under any warranty, unless you took out accidental cover (insurance) when you purchased it.
You physically damaged it. I don't see why you feel entitled to a replacement.
If you have no moral issues with trying to return it or get it replaced then by all means try ans maybe you'll get one.
You're not entitled to one though and the fact that you think you are is comical.

@csmail, no I don't think I'm entitled to get it replaced/refunded. And I don't think it's a question of morals here. If NewEgg accepts it, then great! If not, oh well. Now if I went back to NewEgg and protested the rejection, then that would be ethically questionable. At least in my mind. I'm really at the mercy of NewEgg here. I can only cross my fingers.
I still, however, think this is normal wear and tear. It wasn't a bad brush against the door at all, and it's really something that would've happened eventually unless I babied it constantly.
Looking back to the commercial ASUS released where they had the guy out and about town with the Eee Pad, where he's in class taking notes with it, then he's outside with his friends where he callously undocks the Eee Pad to show his friends something, then he's at the coffee shop with his girlfriend playing a head-to-head video game with both of them banging away on it, and then he's at the skateboard park taking pics with it I'm now thinking "yeah right!". With that kind of treatment, his Eee Pad would be dead in a week.
Apparently, the only place this thing should be used is within the safe confines of your home held only by edges and placed softly on a pillow in a quiet secluded room when not in use. I'm not particularly rough with my gadgets. But devices such as these are meant to be *used*, not put in a glass case to be displayed. And it's supposed to double as a netbook? Yea, good luck with that.
I used a Samsung Galaxy Tab before this, and compared to the Eee Pad, that thing is built like a tank. It's still going strong.
Now with that rant out of the way, I was generally pleased with the Eee Pad. The IPS display was simply awesome. Battery life was also great. There were some software quirks, but I noticed ASUS has a FW update available which I was about to install sometime during the next few days. But I guess that's out now. If NewEgg has mercy on me, I'm on the fence on whether or not to get a replacement or wait until the new Galaxy Tabs come out.
You are trying to justify returning a damaged device by saying it would have happened anyway unless you babied it. I'm not sure about other people but I baby all my gadgets and that's why they never get damaged like this. I'm not saying it would never happen to me because accidents do happen from time to time just like it did to you, but no accidents yet (knock on wood). From a moral standpoint, if you think you can get away with it and it doesn't bother you then maybe you'll get lucky and they will accept it. But for the record, no matter how many times you tell yourself its normal wear and tear banging something up against a door... its not.

I think you are on the hook for this, so your options are send it into Asus for repair or repair it yourself knowing this likely voids your warranty.

I guess thats where you and I differ. It wasn't like I was using my Eee Pad as a door stop while not in use or something. It was a casual bump against a soft wooden door. It wasn't even a head-on collision. It was a swipe against the door. I am on order of magnitude way rougher with my cell phone, the aforementioned Galaxy Tab, and my laptop and they are all chugging away like the day I bought them.
I guess the original point of my post was to rant about the build quality of these Eee Pads. I buy these things to be tools, not to have to show off how much money I have. I wanted to be able to throw this thing into my bag when I go on travel or out into the field like I can with my Galaxy Tab. Turns it out it's way too fragile for that. It can't even take a casual bump. People reading this thread and considering an Eee Pad may want to take notice if durability is a requirement.

You should try the XOOM instead. I miss its metal housing and overall superior stability. But it doesn't have the dock, IPS screen or the very useful ASUS software. I am selling mine on eBay right now but it was a very tough decision!

Can I suggest that you plugin your charger to wake it up? Maybe that way you can at least still use it...

Not saying you were being neglectful or anything, and yes it would be ideal for it to survive a brush with a hard surface. As I said before, if newegg takes it back, more power to you. however, just because you had a bad experience with it don't deem the build quality to be crap. I am happy with mine Having said that, as a former xoom owner I would say that the xoom would have come out of this unscathed most likely (not must because the power button is on the back either). The xoom was just a little more solid feeling, but it had it's drawbacks as well which I won't get into. In any case I hope it works out for you and you can remain a transformer owner. Also if you didn't already might I suggest purchasing the asus sleeve, it have been just enough protection to save you.

Personally I think this thread was started by a troll since it's their second ever posting on a flame worthy subject. But for the record, Newegg is obviously not responsible for someone damaging their own device so asking them to eat $400 because someone was careless seems rather deplorable.
The answer is pay to get it fixed or fix it yourself.
As far as not being deceitful I would agree with you if you submitted an RMA request that said "Banged Device Against Door and Broke It". You did not do that because it would be declined so you lied. You're not betting on their mercy, you're betting on them being too busy to notice that you trashed it.
Anyway, I like Newegg. They have great customer service, reasonable prices and cater to the geeks among us. It's a shame when people lie and cheat to get game a system that once broken leaves us in the hands of Best Buy and Amazon.
There's a reason most of us use cases or put silicon skins on our fancy little devices when out in the wild, they are fragile. I don't see anything about the build quality of the Transformer to make me think it is more or less so true for this device.

Well, you are certainly entitled to your opinion. But I can assure you I am not trolling.
The good news is I just managed to fix it myself just now. Turns out the bump caused the power button to get stuck. I took a dulled box cutter and pried the back lid open just a little to unstick it. Now the button clicks when pressed like it should and everything works as before.
So that this thread isn't a total waste of time, I'll just say that people need to know that this thing doesn't have the greatest of build qualities. Especially since it can convert into a netbook, the Eee Pad really needs to be more rugged. Even when in netbook mode, the buttons and so forth are still vunerable and if I treated it the same way I treat my laptop, I'd have a $400 ($550 including the dock) paper weight in no time.

I had to talk to a customer rep to get an RMA number for the Eee Pad. It's not my fault she didn't ask for specifics. Furthermore, I would presume they inspect the merchandise before proceeding with the RMA at which point they would
clearly be able to see the damage on the power button. How can I possibly be still at fault if they decided to still proceed with the RMA?

Great! Know where we can get one for the Eee Pad? I got the official $40 ASUS sleeve for it from NewEgg, but as you can probably conclude by now that didn't do squat as far as protecting anything. And not those sleeves where you have to take the tablet out of it to use it. That hurts usability if you're trying to use your tablet like a digital book or something.

I got my tab back from RMA (doa) they replaced the screen and there is now a speck between the screen and glass... I can live with the light bleed but this speck is frikin annoying Its not a dead pixel with the device off it is clearly seen under the glass... HELP i am sooo annoyed and I dont want to rma again! How do you take this thing apart?

You don't want to risk taking the thing apart. If you **** it up it's your fault and Asus will NOT give you free warranty service after the fact.
If you can't live with it you have to call Asus and tell them you want them to fix this. They'll probably tell you to prove that they did this by taking a picture of something that's impossible to take a picture of.
Good luck. Another casualty of ****ty Asus QC and an even ****tier RMA service.

I am pretty good at this stuff... if not I know a guy that is a freakin meticulous electronical surgeon.... he made me new insides of the left button on my g9x mouse when the copper wore out.. if I mess it up he'll fix it. Sounds good until you miss a clip and break it. It doesn't really matter how good you or your fam is at doing this. There's a chance for anything to break especially when you're dealing with a particular device you haven't had any experience disassembling before.

There was a disassembly thread somewhere here that shows a minor teardown. Do a google search for it. Although I'm not sure it goes as far as the screen and glass. In addition you have no way to guarantee that you won't introduce more dust since I doubt you own a clean room. I highly advise you contact Asus first, you don't want to do this. There are too many risks that outweigh removing a stupid fleck from between the screen and glass. You'll end up breaking clips that hold the back to the bezel and then you finish up the job, fire the unit up and FUUUUUUUUUUU there are eight huge pieces of dust under the screen. Oops.
My I noticed a spec of dust last night on my TF and concur that its driving me crazy! Would asus' warranty cover something like this?

figured I would post one last update and fix for anyone else affected. I (accidentally) dropped it and it went away as well as the sd card heating up issue. So if anyone else has any issues with this tablet try smacking it into the floor (Hard wood is preferred but it should also work with tile)

[Q] Bringing Charge in for service

SHORT STORY (can be omitted skip to questions):
Well I'm at the point of getting ready to take the charge in for service. It seems I have a termination problem on the main board. My phone shuts off randomly not ROM related but actual hardware (if i bump it it turns off). My battery and phone contacts are clean and making solid contact with each other as well. This brings me to my next observatory task of opening the phone. While I was open in the phone I noticed there was 4 cracks on my chrome rim (probably due to the 10ft drop to solid concrete, just a after thought). So there was no way to take it apart without fully destroying the rim. Which was upsetting because i was looking forward to seeing the beast and trying to solder it back together and\or look into a intuitive\ revolutionary (as apple would put it) way to fix the backlights brightness. Kinda all bummed out and stuff I tried to put the screws back and who would have thunk you had to shrink ray your hands so you could hold the screws. Well trying it with all fat chode like fingers I screw managed to slip from my grasp. It bounce on my hard floor a couple times, followed by that awkward silence where you know should have been a bounce and your still waiting to hear it, but nothing. O.0 So now I am missing a screw...
To the point questions\ concerns:
1. Can I bring this to tech support to ultimately get a refurb (huh), with out a screw? Or do I have to take my sammy Rogue (yea that "feature" phone) apart and steal one of it's screw and paint it black (there is a little difference in the screw probably will strip the phone).
2. Beside the obvious return to stock and PIT blah blah blah. Is there anything I need to do? Like trim my memory card b\c of the folders that say ROMS,KERNELS,MODs, etc... I don't plan on giving the card to them unless they ask for it.
3. I should probably mention, that the battery is starting to get so hot i cant hold it sometimes. and have to take it out and find some kind of heat sink to cool it. This has happened mainly when charging but has happened when idling and on stand by too.
4. should I call them or take it in? Which would prove better results in getting a refurbished or new phone? (either way I don't expect much from these sexist bastards that can't appreciate a good looking male, seems like you need to have some boobs and a nice ass to get new phones from VW)
5. chances in switching phones? I love the charge. (even though there aren't many roms\tweaks, the developers that have past through have been outstanding, even when some of them didn't have a charge) I don't love the fact I paid full released price and 2 weeks later it is $200 cheaper and they pretty much decided they don't love us (although GB and talk of ics is nice) I'm sure verizon very much wants to abort the charge.
Call verizon. Explain to them your situation. Let them know your phone is constantly rebooting. You've tried checking battery, hard reseting device, and everything else you could think of. Ask for a warranty replacement as you were given a defective device.

You just call Verizon and give them a reason where they can't help to fix over the phone, they will give you a replacement. In my case, I think something wrong with my phone cause it drain battery like crazy and I just want another one. I told them the screen is not respond to my touch anymore. I have to hit 4/5 times before it registered. That's it I got a new one.
I believe it still is within the manufactures first year. I got it just before we lost unlimited data. I guess I will call them then.

Yeah for sure..Call ASAP before you get the update with the diagnostic tool.. Then they can say no there is nothing wrong on their end and not send you one. Just call and complain about the phone rebooting randomly (and cant create the problem, it just happens) and that you want them to send you another cause you didnt pay $$$ for a device to do this blah blah blah... then say you tired factory wipe and everything and your fed up and want a replacement...shouldnt be a problem at all...and again if they say go to the store tell them to PISS OFF you dont have the time for that..let us kno how it turns out

EDIT:if they still give you a problem about adding a name then have the primary caller call 611 and tell them to add your name so you dont have to go thru stuff like this..

Lol for me my dad is the account holder but he doesn't know how to do anything so I am the account manager. On their website it says that the account manager has full access to the account, so you could just log into the primary's My Verizon and make yourself a manager.

So, you dropped your phone on concrete with enough force to damage the internals (which I'm guessing is the cause of all the problems), disassembled it and lost a screw in the process, and now you want to try and get a replacement under warranty due to manufacturer's defect?
Good luck. Just don't be surprised when they back charge you for the cost of the device when they realize you've exchanged a phone you've destroyed. You've voided the warranty several times over so they've got plenty of cause to hit you with an out of warranty fee.

Ha.. I did that once. I kicked the grapefruit juice out of my box they sent my phone to me in and so I was like, why did you send me a busted up box with a phone that doesn't work?? They were very polite about the exchange (of course, this was only like the third day I'd had it). I went to church after so I think it all evens out.

Lol, my friend got an old out of warranty second hand PS2 replaced by writing to Sony and pretending to be a very upset 12 year old. These things do work sometimes

I dropped my phone maybe 6 months ago, no apparent damage (internal or external) phone still worked great. At the time of the drop the phone was in a case. I'm not really sure how those cracks got on the outside of my phone but my screen is in perfect condition.. I never even disassembled any of it I got all the screws out and saw that if i tried to take it apart further i would have bigger problems, so I put back the screws and one fell out of my hands. I also found the screw, which managed to bounce onto a shelf of my bookshelf. So my charge works, just has a loose connection somewhere. Not surprising seeing how I work a construction job. The phone doesn't look that bad at all it looks barely beat up, besides the small cracks in the rim which you wouldn't know unless you really studied it. There should be no reason to back charge me anything.

i have to go to church for weeks to make up for some girls I've "dated". I hope i can even that out too. Verizon screws us enough, time to give a little back

Yeah I wouldn't worry about it at all since there's no major damage on the outside of the device...you should be fine

People complain about the cost of everything going up, and this is precisely the reason why insurance and other services go up in price. The replacement devices aren't free, and the cost of replacement has to be made up somehow. Congratulations for feeling good about dicking over the honest people in society.

Hey, I don't condone it and it's nothing I've done myself, but people that rationalize that kind of behavior don't understand the harm of it probably. Kind of like SUV drivers that complain when gas prices go up...

Right on the money. People blame the companies over rising prices but they don't realize that profits stay about the same. Kind of like what is driving up medical costs... Frivolous lawsuits by butthurt idiots.

I don't mind using my warranty, I paid for because I knew my phone would break all my phones, except my samsung phones, stopped working before i even put them through the rigorous days on a construction job. I rather spend the down payment on it than having to buy a new phone full price. I've been dicked by verizon (ex. buying replacement phones a couple months after getting a paid replacement) though so i don't feel bad getting a new device for free.
i don't deny people getting phones for free just to get new ones is wrong and screws over the honest people, but verizon in my eyes, while being a loyal customer for about a decade or so, hasn't been really that honest of a company. Like the whole data plan needed phones. My mom and sister both had the same phone, one need a data the other didn't (due to the timing of when they got the phones)... All the phone had was verizons "mobile web" on EVDO pretty usless itself. But the data plan was forced upon one of them for profit gainsb(data was even blocked on our account at the time). This doesn't even include the trying to charge to transfer contacts and bs fee's fee's. If Big Red didn't have all the members and didn't get the best signal in my area i'd be on a different carrier.

Charger port aluminum popped up? Should i send it back?

So everyone was alright with my tab. the software was a little buggy with jellybean but nothing i couldnt live with. then one night after i finished charging it i look at the charger and see the picture i am attaching. i dont know how this happened. that part always clicked when i pressed it and now it doesnt but it looks like someone dropped it. i contacted asus and i sent pictures and they are starting an RMA. but should i do it and have my tab gone for 3 weeks and maybe it wont be fixed and i might have to pay for it.i told them i was having random reboots and stuff in hopes they would replace it and send me a new one. are my dreams far fetched?
I mean it isnt that bad but its ugly and not my fault. do you think they will fix it or replace it and do you think its worth the 3 weeks without it?
That happened to my wife's tablet, I thought it was due to the loose screen in that area and then docking it. I had her send it back to Amazon at about 3 weeks old and got a new one. I told her to be more careful when docking.
This happened to my wife's tab also, just bent it back. Does not sit well with me that it is so easy to bend but even if you return it, this will likely happen again.
You cn bend it back to almost normal as long as there is no crease. If you have a hobby hammer that the head is made out of silicone, you can tap it back to perfect, just be careful not to hit the screen of hit it hard, just do small taps until your satisfied. It happens usually when docking or undocking.
You can also use the black cap that covers the charging port by placing it above the bump and press down with light pressure until it returns to its normal position. This happened to me once with my Infinity. I wasn't paying attention to where the cord was and I ended up tripping on it:\ When I had the Prime it seemed easier to bend, less firm/Sterdy vs the Infinity. Waste of time RMAing it.

I don't understand how you can say it's not your fault. It's certainly not the fault of Asus. Of course they would fix or replace it but it would be at your own cost. I don't see why Asus should cover the cost of putting it right?
Don't get me wrong, I would hate this to have happened to my tablet, but I also wouldn't expect to pass the cost on to someone else (which I believe you are implying) due to my carelessness.
Live with it, repair it yourself or pay to have it fixed for you.
Odd. My port is actually bent the OPPOSITE way haha. I just bent it back. I don't think it's worth the three weeks + your hard-earned money. :laugh:
This happened on my Prime. It is caused by pushing the power connector in at an angle and not being careful or once it is in, allowing something to rest on the connector pushing the frame up.
It is easy to fix yourself and you can push the metal back down with your finger. Best way is to get something made of rubber or softer plastic and reshape it back to normal yourself.

My wife's phone went in dishwasher a short time

So we found it in dishwasher and dried it off and everything work fine. When we tried to charge it after it was out of battery an triangle alert came on screen asking with a water splash sign that alerted is there was water in phone. She used a cutie gently and dried off charging portal, still nothing. Then she removed s pen it was wet. How can she she dry it. She can't live without phone. Chuckle. Note doesn't want to wait till tomorrow to take to store. Also we can from Apple and assumed these were water proof.

Its a hot or miss with that cuz is a software bug. At least I remember I took a shower with a phone a few years ago samsung and no matter how long I waited or what I did it continued to give me that warning. Ended up having to put a claim in with Verizon. That was way back with the s8 plus so idk if they made it better. Nvm just remembered I didn't take a shower with it, I actually took it in the ocean with me lol

Phones aren't meant to tolerate any type of forced water like jets from a dish washer. But if it worked normal, I'd say use wireless charging.

Resistant and resistance has a threshold that I would still take with a grain of salt.
They are water resistant not water proof unfortunately so water can get inside.
As someone else mentioned try wireless charging once your pretty sure it's dried out inside.

Putting electronics like mobile phones in rice is a myth .
It's been proven that it does not work and won't help since rice can't suck water out of device that has got water inside the device.
Warm dry area for a few days, ideally surrounded by Silca Gel you get inside different packages such as food or sensitive items that should remain damp free

If you have a dishwasher that stands under sink or w.e it's called in kitchen then if the phone was laying above and one of drawers in the dishwasher was pulled out probably top one. My guess could be she/he accidentally knocked down the phone so it landed into first drawer and when they pushed it in and closed the dishwasher they didn't notice the phone was in there. Just my guess but still quite odd how it really got there.

The fan idea in a warm dry room is the safest bet.
If it has a good charge, use the phone and warm it up.
Watch from any sign of malfunction other than the warning.
If anything behaves abnormally power it down asap and do not power up again. It may limit help the water damage.
It will need services if so... at the very least the back needs to come off so it can dry.
Forget rice; use anhydrous isopropyl alcohol to flush out water contaminated electronics. Save my coffee dunked Buds case like that. Yes with a live battery. Still working a half year latter. I flushed it within a minute of the coffee plunge.
Alcohol can craze polycarbonate plastics; be careful. Dry it with low pressure air quickly if possible.
I've use a blower bulb (the kind you use to clean cam lens) and low pressure air to clear a rain drop from the C port.
I then let it sit for about an hour afterwards until the warning cleared.
DO NOT apply power if warning is still on since you know it was water exposed. If water is still present it can cause extensive damage if power is applied.
Do Not use high pressure air as you can force water past the seal and into the phone!
These phones are well sealed so you'll probably be ok especially if it was in a case.
Always keep these puppies in a good case, it will save you from a lot of grief

Well to be honest rice didn't do a thing to your iPhone trust me. If you left it for a day or two in rice you can just as well leave phone alone without rice for 1 or two days and you will see same effect. So professionals did a test and proven the rice method is false and is just a waste of time and a myth.

Do you have a source for that claim? Here's a published, peer-reviewed controlled experiment that showed that for other wet electronic devices (specifically, hearing aids), rice was in fact a good desiccant, comparable to commercial desiccants:

You know that government can put lies and false facts on their sites too? Secondly hearing aids is something else than smartphone and tablet and so on.
I'm going to look for some proven source since I remember seeing few where they tested and got result that rice does nothing to smartphones, tablets and such and that people going around telling other people out there to use it is a falsely and a myth.

Secondly I think you are on wrong track, most professionals that are not repair shop have tried method and gotten result that rice does nothing that's how it was proven it isn't working. I given you two source and none of them are repair shop so seriously wake up.
