[Q] Navigation Key Replacement? - T-Mobile myTouch 4G Slide

I posted this as a question in an existing thread then realized that was a douche move, so here it goes:
As I was replacing a digitizer (which by the way is hell on this phone, so much adhesive ) I accidentally broke the tiny flex cable that connects to the navigation button. This was horrifically stupid considering the cable disconnects so easily, but I figured it was more efficient to leave it connected since I was working around it very well.
I contacted HTC, and they want me to send it in, which I find to be laughable since the part takes about a second to connect. The regular mytouch 4g button looks very similar in every way, except the flex cable is oriented in the other direction -- looking at the top of the button, the cable dips down and goes to the right versus the left on this phone. As it turns out, this is the most difficult part of the phone to find online! I failed to find it anywhere, and gave up after an hour on google.
So I am left with a dilemma:
1. Gamble and order the mytouch 4g button and try to twist it into submission, since the connectors are literally the same;
2. Find a broken mt4gs somewhere on the cheap. (hint hint, I check my PM's once in a while )
Hopefully a circuit like this would be a standard model, and HTC wouldn't need to change it.
Your thoughts? Any advice would be appreciated as this is a friend's phone, and while I have something (rooted) he can use, I feel like crap.
Thanks!

Well, here are my toughts:
Since the MyTouch button is fairly cheap, I would buy one and fight with it. It would great if it works, and there's really no reason they should have changed it.
I wonder why these navigation buttons are so hard to find?? I looked around too and couldn't find anything.
If you don't have an aversion to ebay, you can get parts phones there. Usually they have a trashed screen, or took a swim. The problem with the ones which someone decided needed a bath is that you really never know what parts are good. Don't these phones often have a problem with charging (that is, they plug in but now power). Those would be ideal for you because they work except for whatever is wrong with that charging.
Anyway, here's a search I started : http://www.ebay.com/sch/Cell-Phones..._dmpt=Cell_Phones&rt=nc&LH_ItemCondition=7000
I really hope you get this fixed. I can't help my friends with even the simplest of problems because I'm so afraid of making a tiny mistake. I'm glad you're a better friend than me. If the MyTouch button works be sure to write back!

If I remember right, there was a thread a while back about this. The regular MyTouch 4G buttons won't fit in it, unfortunately. The buttons are sized different.

Thanks for the replies!
I found it, FINALLY, after 2 hours of search engine hell. Had to not use Google for a change. The part is literally in one location on the internet I think, a site called mengtor.com... had to search for "trackpad replacement" instead of "navigation key".... and there is a $50 minimum. Sucks, but they also had a reasonable LCD/digitizer combo for the galaxy s 4g I needed, so it all worked out. I am swimming in broken phones and hand-me-downs

T-Mobile SDA White Screen of Death Revisited

Sorry to start up a SAD SDA topic but it has to be done...
I thought I'd be smart and pick up a broken screen "tornado" SDA from Ebay like some of us have already done. Got it, hooked up to usb cables and my activesync 4.5 picked it right up, allowing me to explore the file system and even browse some naughty pics (oops) that the previous owners had left on there. Ok, seemed to work, could make a phone call with my sim card etc...even without being able to see past the cracked LCD screen.
Next step was to buy a replacement screen, for which I am sure you all have seen the "2125 screen" that is the exact model as a Tmobile LCD. I replaced this and prayed for the best.
The best didn't happen. I got a nasty all white screen and got upset....then recheced the ribbon cable connections and they were appropriately installed.
Same thing over and over. WTF?
I have SOTI pocket controller professional. For those who don't know what this is, it allows remote viewing of the little screen on your PPC phone or Smartphone on your Desktop or Laptop computer's monitor.
It is great for the purpose of checking functionality of a "broken LCD" phone. Everything worked fine on the virtual screen! I even UNLOCKED and SUPER CIDed the darn thing and have reflashed original OS from TMO just to be sure.
WHY ON GOD's green earth can I not get a working display on this thing UNLESS of course, I got ripped off by the ebay vendor. (who never sent me a replacement envelope as promised to swap out and send this one back)
Just venting but seriously, DOES anyone have a solution.
It is not a dead phone, bricked, wrong operating system, or any of the other posited theories here. The screen is just inexplicably white and properly connected. HELP.
Thanks.
I am an MDA owner and just dabble in this SDA thing.
I would love this nice little phone to work..if not, I have a brand new housing, a possibly working screeen (with another phone) and lots of parts for someone..hint hint.

Hey mate, don't loose your faith!!! Redo the connection. The same thing happend to me, and I swore I had pluged that flat connector correctly into the socket and I didn't. Wiggle it, you can't enter it straight in, it has to slide in on an angle. Look at the one you removed. Look at the mark left by the "YELLOW TAPE" that holds the ribbon inside the slot. It will tell you how far in it has to go. Also, there are 2 other contacts that have to be in the propper position. One makes contact between the back plate of the LCD and a mesh looking spot where it sits. It has to sit in place so you have the "ground" on the LCD. If you need, I can put apart my phone and take a close picture and post it for you so you can see what Im talking about. But I'm pretty sure that your problem is just the ribbon not being in all the way. There are 2 sets of connections inside the socket. If the ribbon isn't all the way in, only the 1rst set will make contact, LCD will light up, but, no image. Good Luck and I do hope its as I say. Please let me know here or on PM if you need some pictures.

Thank you for this insightful and confident reply!
I am certain that it will be quite useful to a Tornado user with this problem in general. The screen I got must be defective (too late to return) because this advice above should be the perfect solution.
Didn't work for me though but It is very nice for someone to put the effort into posting in such a manner.
Kudos to a valuable member of our community!
I might fool around and pick up another used T-mobile SDA and pray that I can get one working properly. If this screen works on that one, I guess I bought an ebay dud (masked by the broken screen).
Yes, this phone is getting dated but I really wanted to experiment with new ROMS and push it as far as it could go.

Loose hard buttons?

First post, I have searched but didn't find anything on this in the forum. So I received my Fuze yesterday via mail from AT&T and I have been playing with it and it is a great device. I have noticed that on my Fuze the hard buttons on the bottom seem to move around on the right hand side as if they were loosely connected. I have made a youtube video to show this movement and I am wondering if this is normal for the Fuze/Touch Pro or if mine may be defective. Thanks for any help in advance and I will certainly be using this forum for lots, good community you have here.

16 views and noone can verify if their Fuze also has loose keys on the bottom? I thought this one would surely get a quick response since it is so simple.
I just want to know if I should not worry about it or if I should consider sending it back before I start to get into flashing ROMs and whatnot. It very well could be that this is just the way it was designed but I have no idea.
Mine also does it. Never payed attention until you pointed it out. Not too worried about it though.
I'm also not too worried about it myself but just wondering if that is something standard with the device or if only some of them do it? Thanks for the response.
This is certainly faulty. My TP keys move a little bit, but not that much. I am sure yours is buggy. But... I think it is not getting worse because the movement is limited by the frame
My TyTNII/TIlt did the same thing and HTC said this was normal. I just hope they don't decide to make a car, the wheels would fall off any they would tell you it was normal.
I did end up sending a message to HTC to see what they had to say. I'll inform if i get a response.
I've had 4 units, all of them did it but one, and that one had a pad piece that was such a tight fit that it rubbed on the bottom of the screen when you pressed the home or back button. They all seem to be slightly different sizes.
When you buy HTC, don't examine too closely or you'll always be disappointed.

My HTC Fuze (AT&T) does not have loose key on the bottom.
my Fuze is rock solid. It is a perfect fit, sturdy, and held in place.
Looks like your touchpad has a broken screw hole or missing a screw entirely. I definatly wouldn't be satisified with that.
I have checked 2 and both had the loose button panel
HTC responded with:
Thank you for sending your email inquiry about your device.
I understand you have an HTC Fuze with AT&T service and your device may have loose buttons on the right side. I know that this situation can be frustrating when your device buttons do not perform the way you expect. If you suspect the buttons are loose, you should contact AT&T about this issue. They maybe able to exchange or replace the device for you.
Robert, I hope we have answered your question in detail. Feel free to contact us again if you have any further questions.

So I went to the AT&T Store to talk to one of them and to check the phone there and that display phone had the loose buttons. I am going to try to check the rest of the stores. I am going to hang onto mine as it really isnt an issue and I still have the warranty if something goes wrong. Still I would like to get this poll filled out as it is now an interesting thing to me.
I bought mine on 1/27 and it is loose on the right side too
I went through three Fuzes for various different problems. The one I have now has an uneven lower button area...the left side facing up is higher than the right which causes a sharp corner. I was just happy it wasnt worse. If you compare the build quality to the sprint's touch pro there is no comparison, the sprint version is solid, every one I've handled has felt well built and had no problems like this.
Mine does exactly the same, had it for a week, but only noticed it yesterday. Probably not quite as bad as the video tho....
My Kaiser also does it but i'm not worried out that as the button pad is 'encapsulated' by the cover and doesn't any where near like the TP. The other thing I'm not too keen on is the hard qwerty keyboard doesn't feel as robust as my kaiser one either.
This is must disconcerting as I look after my phones really well.....

Polaris Scroll Wheel \ D-PAD Broken :( Need Advice

If anyone knowledable on anything that pertains to my problem could help me out I would be very grateful..here's the scoop..
I have had my polaris for over a year now (out of warranty) and for the longest time I've had issues with the touch screen not responding correctly and having to re-calibrate it all the time. I finally figured out what the issue was yesterday after I hard reset the device and the screen was still messed up...I had been using a dock for this device that isn't manufactured very well -- using the dock day in day out for a few months at work actually bent the pins on the USB connector on the cruise to the point where some of them were touching each other (yikes!)
So, I gave the phone to my dad who's an engineer, he took it to work and used a microscope or whatever and some tools and got the pins back straight again..now the screen works fine! Needless to say that dock is in the garbage now. The brand was "BoxWave" -- stay away from their products, they are JUNK!
Anyways -- I still have a problem with the scroll wheel.
Spinning the wheel does not work at all -- the Up, Down, and Left buttons work when pressed, and the wheel does light up, but spinning it doesn't do anything. Also the Right button doesn't work either. The button in the middle works okay. All of the working buttons cause the light to go on.
The logical conclusion here to me anyways seems to be that the bent pins caused permanent damage to the scroll wheel...I'm very glad it didn't cause perm. damage to the screen (or anything else, so I hope!!)..but anyways -- what would be the best option for me at this point?
Call HTC and have them fix it and pay out of pocket?
About how much would they charge for something like this (ballpark)?
My dad is a very skilled electrical engineer -- he would be willing to take it apart and fix it for me at work..he's got all the tools and stuff for it and doesn't mind at all...what parts should I look into ordering?
Thanks for any help anyone can provide here.
Hi,
I have a similar problem the up, left, right and turning the wheel does not work on my polaris either and I have not damaged it whatsoever. So, i do not think your button problem is because of a possible short circuit. But, sorry to tell you but I do not have a solution to the problem.
I thought I was certain, but occaisonally my screen still dies.
Perhaps it was permanently damaged? It is much better than before though -- but no matter what I do -- the wheel spinning does nothing, and the Right key does nothing at all.
Do you have any clue what part we would need to get replaced?
I am looking to replace the screen as well due to scratches.
I believe it's called a "digitizer" (the screen part not the wheel)
No, sorry. But if you do find out let me know as well.
Thank you.
found this on ebay
Hi,
Guys I found this on eBay. It says it can repair this kind of issue. Although I do not have the time to test.
So, here it is
http://cgi.ebay.com/HTC-Touch-Cruis...ries?hash=item19b5e3f64f&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14
P.S. if anyone does test this please give us your feedback. Thank you
What?
Did you post the wrong link or something?
That is a SIM card.
This thread is about the scroll wheel \ DPad.
EDIT:
Nvm, I see in the auction it says its a ribbon or something.
I dunno about this one...but it's cheap.
I still have not even gotten around to repairing my screen \ usb port though...god damn money.
If i order this ill let u know.
OK so I just purchased a new charge port and digitizer, but I have yet to see ANYONE selling a replacement scroll wheel.
Alot of people are selling the "housing" but it's missing the wheel!
Anyone know where to get a replacement metal panel and wheel only, not the entire housing?
I found a jog wheel for the shadow -- wonder if it would fit?
I have the same issue, the jog wheel doesn't work and neither the right button, but everything else works & lights up the keypad part....strange that this is 3 of us with the EXACT problem, maybe there's something we need to figure out? btw, i used to hardly use the buttons, but i used the jogwheel a lot to scroll.
I also have the BoxWave dock, however, i've found mine to be of great quality & use...reading your post made me paranoid so I checked my usb connecter over & over but thankfully everything looks very normal.
I came across this post, because I was actually looking for some user advice on replacing your own housing & wheel. I already found the entire housing & keypad on ebay that comes with the screwdriver set, and i have the manual to assemble & dissassemble.
I would rather do it myself so i wouldn't have to do without my phone while waiting for this to get repaired, but i also don't want to do it if it's very tricky with a big chance of busting phone, so i'm looking for a feel of easy-medium-hard. I've already done something similar 3 years ago to my I-Mate Jamin as well as replacing the speaker, so my technical skills are probably around mid-level.
Anyways best of luck, i'll update this post later to tell you how it went (this could be in 2 weeks time from now).

Housing including the jog wheel and electronics?
I also ordered a usb connector and apparently they sent me one that isn't compatible with the cruise...I think I am just gonna buy a broken one and get the parts from it..they seem to be rare compared to other HTC models!

I had the same problem but on a 2 year warranty Touch Cruise. Phone was fixed and re-installed with WM 6.1
Know I face Bluetooth connection problems again and the BT hotfix is not accepted anymore.
I do have to say that the upgrade after re-installing should have been left behind.
I have the same problem... Scrol wheel not working en button to the right
anyone ever fixed this?
Hey Guys!
I've got the same problem with the wheel and the right button. So I was wondering if anyone fixed the problem?
I have no warranty anymore
I think I know what's your problem, mates.. It seems that it is essential for almost any P3650 - the cable, which is going from the jog wheel to the keyboard control unit tears apart just before (or exactly at) the copper pads on the molex thingie, that plugs into K/B unit (damage is so slight, that it barely can be seen).
I had no luck looking for the jog wheel sold seperately from housing, or at least with that plastic-chromed buttons cover. If anyone finds out that it is possible to obtain it seperately - I would greatly appreciate
Btw, same problem goes for sim holder's cable - I have replaced mine 2 times already (you can get 'em for around 15$ from ebay).
Sorry for my english - it's a bit rusty atm
Same problem here..wheel doesn't function can't find the part by itself ..
Touch Cruise jog wheel & keyboard
Exact same here - jog wheel scrolling broken & right selection does not work. Besides, my "call" key stucks time to time.
So for now I've just got both of them - jog wheel and keyboard (not the entire housing) from ebay, 15 & 7 $ respective
wheel ordered from the following ebay location :
cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rt=nc&nma=true&item=260656153778&si=1E2jM09T8qOM9DzM6uzrXo5Qiqg%253D&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWNX%3AIT
same provider has keyboard also, for some reason it is not on eBay active items. But you can contact the seller and ask for it.
I gonna replace both in a near future, and will update about the result.

Does anybody else hate their doubleshot?

It seems like the comic sans of the phone world to me. Its rounded and ugly. The power button is awkwardly placed on top. The genius button is useless. The other buttons (home/menu/back) shouldn't be tactile buttons at all, are we going backwards? (I guess some of you like it..) the only features I actually like are the front facing camera, and the Alt/Shift indicator lights on the hardware keyboard. And don't get me started on the camera LEDs. There's TWO of them, they should be ten times brighter, when I'm fumbling around at night id like a strong flash light in my pocket. Is it absolutely nessecary to have that ugly appauling "8mp camera" nonsense on the battery door? Gah. I'm literally buying a powermat and the appropriate battery door just so I don't have to look at that eyesore. The whole experience just seems cheap. I guess I'm just butt hurt that my G2 kicked the bucket and I was forced into this phone.
Anyone else? Sorry for my rant.

I am with you 100% on this statement. I hate this phone. I fear I'm going to have to stray from HTC... and I don't like that.
Yes I hate my doubleshot with a passion.

Come on, it's not that bad. I quite like it, it's been about a year or so now, I'm getting used to it. Some of the drawbacks you mentioned can be fixed by looking around on XDA. I miss my G2 at times, but still, I'm fairly happy with the Doubleshot, apart from the fact that HTC kind of skimped on RAM, and that it'll never see stock ICS.
still best in its category
I just don't get how people complain about this phone.
Sliders are becoming obsolete (HTC has said they are not making any more).
Let's look at it objectively. If you have this phone it means you wanted a slider and are on T-Mobile (or you got it as a replacement for an older slider that broke - then you really lucked out not having to pay for an upgrade!).
I personally bought it brand new 6 months ago for $370 (no tax or shipping) and use it with Simple Mobile's $40 everything (2.5G) plan.
For that moderate cost I am getting the perfect form factor (in my opinion) just a little too heavy. A good dual core processor, above average camera, decent screen and a sliding keyboard.
While I wouldn't have minded a slightly larger screen, this is really the best of both worlds. I leave my screen locked in portrait most of the time and it is a great size for one handed use. Then I can slide out the keyboard (mine has decent feedback, the keys are very legible, and Blue made a zip to turn the menu etc keys into direction keys) and type two handed or just use it in landscape for browsing etc. It is also easy to turn the genius button into a regular search button.
I love the track pad (and track pad wake), the fact that I can go directly to camera with shutter button (which many phones lack altogether) and also unlock by sliding open the phone.
As for ROMs I just left ICS splashed to CM9 ICS Alpha 5 and am having a great time.
I have 2 Anker batteries and charger which cost about $28.
What more could you ask for? In fact - liking the slider - where could I go from here?
I biggest, and really only, qualm with the phone is the keyboard itself.

The G2/Desire Z has all those features. Slide, shutter button, ect. When mine finally died (the ribbon cable inbetween the screen and keyboard slideout worn out from sliding) I did my research and was excited that there was a dual-core out there with similar/better specs.
I went from the G1, to the G2 and now the MT4GS and there's a clear difference. I think HTC dropped the ball with overall quality with this one.

Well, by default it turns your device into a hands free object - paired with a bluetooth headset you can do anything with your phone while it's in your pocket.
I don't like nor use the genius function, and so in my rom changed what the key does to the default search function it usually is on a smart phone.
You could do the same with yours, and swap out the function of the button to anything else you want.

The other buttons (home/menu/back) shouldn't be tactile buttons at all, are we going backwards? (I guess some of you like it..)

This was a bonus for me, I don't like the flat keys on the screen, but rather prefer the tactile feel of the button press. The LG knockoff of this device has the flat buttons and i'm glad HTC went with the choice they did. Yea, count me in the 'like it' camp

And don't get me started on the camera LEDs. There's TWO of them, they should be ten times brighter, when I'm fumbling around at night id like a strong flash light in my pocket.

This is controlled directly from within the kernel source. Making it brighter is simply changing one variable and compiling - you can go as bright as you want.
Buddy of mine has an HTC inspire, and we noticed his flashlight was brighter by a little bit, and he was getting all "finally found something my phone does better then you" for a bit - well, I found the line in kernel source that determines that and tweaked it.
Hah, it was so funny, we were in a garage one night and needed a flashlight, so of course he pulled his out and started talking smack on mine to the other two of our friends there. He told me to pull mine out and show them, and I refused a couple of times, until he started talking smack on me for not showing them.
Fine, I said, and pulled it out. I tapped the flashlight app, and you'd think the damn sun just came up and fell on the driveway behind us. It was pretty funny and I was giggling about it for a couple of weeks. Now I just harass my friend over his flashlight

Sorry to hear that man - it doesn't matter what you were given, if it wasn't another G2 you'd hate it, and find reasons to hate it, because you weren't through yet with a device you had come to love.
I get it, and feel for you.
Definitely hold onto the slide, it'll grow on you and you'll find you really like it - but in the meantime, why not look into finding a cheap used G2 to help you make the transition?
I am sure you could find one that's in good shape for not too much money if you hunt around a little, craigslist and ebay and such - might even find someone floating around XDA with one to sell.
The only thing I really "hate" about this phone is the fact that it's not going to get ICS. Why is Google standing for HTC just giving up on an Android phone like that? The specs are comparable to anything released today. I just don't get it.
Keyboard is not that great, sure, but nothing that conjures hatred aside from the ICS stuff.

This is exactly how a dissagrement post should look like. Thanks for being civil and expressing your opinion in a humorous manner. :highfive:
I have my Genius button remapped to instantly power off my device. and I knew there had to be some way to increase the brightness, I'll have to do some more digging. heh. :fingers-crossed: Thanks bro!
I too am not overly happy with the mt4gs. This is the replacement i was offered for my G2. The keyboard isnt as nice or it just takes some getting used too. BUT...... Im moving on. Asurion called me about an hour ago to follow up on the replacement phone. After i politely told them i was not happy with it, i was asked what they could do to fix this. I asked them if i could swap the phone for something different. He made a few offers of phones i was not familiar with. Then I asked about the amaze or sensation, he seemed to lean away from the sensation. I settled on the amaze, but did ask about the new s one. He said that would be too much of an upgrade to try and do. So my amaze will be here tomorrow.

My dev computer is a couple hundred miles away in another state, but if I remember right it's in arch/arm/mach-msm/board-doubleshot.c
Somewhere there is a block of code that deals with flash leds, should be [0] and [1] to represent both led lights. You will be able to set the max brightness.
The stock battery issues with this device are the reason HTC was conservative, maybe overly so, with every line of code on this device. Everything is programmed well under spec.
Pretty sure that was the only code you have to mess with, been a while, but that should be it.

Ok so I'm in that file and in reference to flashlight all I'm seeing is a 1. Also I see a .low_cap-limit 30 is that battery power the flash for camera cuts off at

I got curious and pulled the original source release - in that file around line 3039 (as far as gedit says, anyways) is the block I was thinking of.
Not sure with the most current source release, I haven't caught up yet. This little netbook I picked up for small stuff on the road bigger then the phone can handle would melt if I tried to compile, so haven't pulled that from HTC yet - it may be different in the most current source release.
Here is what I was looking at:
Code:
static struct pmic8058_led pmic8058_flash_leds[] = {
[0] = {
.name = "camera:flash0",
.max_brightness = 15,
.id = PMIC8058_ID_FLASH_LED_0,
},
[1] = {
.name = "camera:flash1",
.max_brightness = 15,
.id = PMIC8058_ID_FLASH_LED_1,
},
};
Edit:
I had printed out every .c file in mach-msm to physical paper and read it like a book when kernel source was released, so I have little remnants of everything floating around in my head - i just looked back at the file and saw what you meant about the flashlight reference. In this case, though, the intensity for the light was covered around the camera stuff, guess they thought it would be easier that way.

Personally I loved my G2. Great phone, aesthetically awesome. Great quality, besides the spring slide issue. BUT. I have to say although there are some places I would prefer improvement on the MT4GS. It's not a bad phone.
It is a slide for one, maybe keyboard wise not as good as the G2 but still. A slide nonetheless which there are little Android devices that still keep the feature. Another thing? It's a dual-core, certainly not a huge deal but still it'll keep the phone in the game for quite a bit. Uses the S3 with the Adreno 220 which are more than capable CPU and "GPU" in their own regard. Both hold up to the specs of the G-Note.
IDK, maybe that's me but we have many capable devs working hard on ICS, certainly not stock ICS but still ICS nonetheless. Hopefully HTC releases a One series version that will replace the G2 or the MT4GS.
I love this device . I always liked the mytouch line my favorite was the MT4G but this phone is excellent . Ive dropped it soooo many times and it keeps on going . The wider focal length of the camera makes for great pictures . the only thing I dont like is the keyboard and the lack of feedback when a button is pushed.
other than that? Doubleshot is great . Im not going to buy another phone till this one dies
I got the phone as a replacement for my G2 after I went through 4 or 5 of them in a month. The MT4GS isn't a bad phone, but I liked the G2 more. I'm actually thinking about selling this phone and just buying a Galaxy Nexus from Google.
I came from a G1, so this phone is epic. But after working for a connection center, I was spoiled. I've used almost every phone that's came out within the last 18 Months. WinPhone, BlackBerry, iOS, etc.... So I grew to dislike this phone, but not hate it. But it's the only good QWERTY. So I stay with it, I need a QWERTY. Sure the G2 has a nice KB, but why do I want do have a slower phone?
Also a side note. After working as assistant manager, and looking at the sales reports. We never sold any Doubleshots in the 18 months I worked there.

[Q] Black Screen after getting "hit/banged" by my youngest...

I've been a member for quite a while, but don't think I've ever posted so please take it easy on me . I bought my husband a MyTouch 4g Slide and liked it, so I bought myself one (both used from Ebay). With my husbands, we had the black screen occasionally. I did some research and with a quick fix of the cover blocking something and switching it around - :victory:**** all set.
Mine (still running original software was running fine. Well, my youngest of 5 kids was apparently playing a game and got frustrated because it kept freezing or something and hit or banged the screen from what he told me -----
Anyway, when he gave me the phone it was this kind of white/reddish fuzzy looking color. I turned it off and tried to reboot. (yes, I've pulled the battery) and aside from the tiny little red light (LED) or the small green one in the same corner OCCASIONALLY coming on and an occasional vibration at that time - NOTHING, NADA, ZILCH....
On the good side, I didn't totally lose it and start screeming at him .... on the bad side, I have a phone I just bought (and like) and can't use it. I know that it might be a just toss and rebuy, but before I do, is there something we can replace (digitalizer/screen/etc)??
You guys up here are amazing and it's the first place I think to come for any of the phones we've had (HTC, MyTouch, SideKick) and I'm so thankful for the site. I figured if I was going to get right to the point and get a straight up answer, without getting scammed, this is the place.... sooooo, anything is better than nothing! Thanks!
Hello. Sounds to me like the LCD screen blew out. They blow out easily from being banged around pretty hard, especially on this particular phone. If the light turns on, then the phone is still alive. If it vibrates as well, then it's definitely still good, as the system is obviously still running. You should try replacing the LCD screen. If you've never done this type of thing, then I'll tell you this... it won't be very easy at all. HTC put so much damn adhesive all over this phone, it's ridiculous. They even glued the LCD to the digitizer, & really tight too.
If you try to do it yourself, or have someone do it for you, be very careful. You can get screens for cheap on ebay, but it may be troublesome to get it done. It's also hard to put them together while preventing dust from getting in there as well. Lint-free micro fiber rags, & maybe a hand air pump, will be very helpful to have around. You can see disassembly videos & tutorials online, like from repairsuniverse.

Thanks so much!! My husband and son "TINKER" with things like this....mostly bigger stuff like cars and all ... LOL... but lately a little bit with our laptops/psp type stuff. However, if I could find someone who does this a lot and it wasn't too expensive, that would probably be easier, especially with all the kids around here . Any idea where I could search for a reputable person (ebay, etc???). Also, when you say LCD, that would be like the ones I've seen on ebay that say LCD with digitalizer....right?? I really appreciate the info. I was hoping it might be something like that, something at least "possible". You rock. I'll let you know how it turns out.
it is a pain! and yeah it does sound like the lcd needs to be changed out, careful now because there are multiple lcds that htc used and they arent compatible, i would suggest opening it up first and then seeing which one to order
HERE IS SOME INSIGHT if you look to the third page or so you can see my experience with this phone. if you have someone who likes to tinker give them the project, as much of a pain as it is... its not too bad still i will suggest having them do a little research first though
good luck!

To have someone do it, I think it'd probably be best to search locally for a repair shop. If you live anywhere near a big city, they probably have some cell phone repair shops around that would be able to do it for you. Even check craigslist.
As for the screen itself, there are 2 parts. There is the LCD screen, or the actual TV screen itself, & there is a sheet of glass placed on top of it. That sheet of glass is called the digitizer. It is what senses your touch. The manufacturers seems to love gluing them together nowadays. Not like the myTouch 3G Slide which was not glued together & was so easy to take apart & deal with. But yeah, the LCD is the actual TV screen. That's what you likely need to change.
