DIY Smart Cover TF700 - Asus Transformer TF700

Finally solved this problem and can uninstall Awesome on/off.
UPDATE : for right now it does not work with stock ROM.

I don't understand ... All I can think of the glass breaking when you apply pressure to the case.

I don't understand your reply. I did not press the case. And the sound is from case itself.

Does this work only with the JB ROM, or will it work with stock. With the right magnet (or strip), this could be just what a lot of folks are looking for.

I did not test it with stock rom.
May be someone can have a try.
Only problem right now is I need a smaller or thinner magnet. The one in the video is still toomagnetic. When I fold the cover back it can still wake and sleep my tablet.

Well, I tried with stock just now, and got nothing. Either my magnets (I tried several from the fridge, including one neodium) weren't strong enough, or there is a setting in the JB ROM (build.prop or the kernel perhaps?) that allows this. I am hoping that this is hackable, but am waiting until JB to root/unlock. Really would like this feature though.

Can you give some details about what you did? Is that just a normal magnet? What size/strength?

Just a normal magnet from my fridge. It's about 5 mm wide (diameter)and 3 mm thick.
But it is still too thick and strong.

Where does the magnet need to touch? I tried this on stock with a magnet and I can't get it to do anything.

According to others test, it doesn't work with stock rom
I am using Jb unofficial

You can find the magnet location on the dock with a piece of iron, it is around the track pad, right side if I remember right.

Ah, sweet! I've got to modify my own case too now! I believe I've found the perfect sized magnet for this purpose.
I first started off disassembling some broken earbuds, but the magnet was too weak. Then i recalled having a spare-part-laptop lying around, so I tore out the built in speakers and made my way to the magnets. And look at that!

in the stock rom the magnetic sensor is disabled unless the dock is connected. Its a stupid setup that Asus did and was changed in the custom rom.
Hopefully this clears some problems for people.

It seems like your magnet is bigger than mine.
Is it too strong ? Like mine, when I fold the cover back the magnet still has effect on the tablet.

Crap... Haha. I didn't check that! It seems it's too strong, yeah. Well, I'll continue the search then!

Now, I've popped open an old Nokia and SE to test the magnets in the speakers. I've also ripped apart another headset, and all of the magnets will lock the pad from behind. I am attaching an image of the 1st magnet I tried compared to two smaller that are still too strong..

Okay so the magnet thing had been figured out, is there a way to patch the stock rom or fool it somehow to enable the magnet feature?

So if it's disabled in stock ROM, can't it be enabled in third party ROMs? I haven't seen anything about it in any of the ROM discussions on here.

Its not that its disabled in stock rom, its disabled when theres no keyboard. it becomes enabled when the keyboard is connected. So I would think it could be enabled simply by modding the stock rom. Im no programmer but i doubt it would be difficult, just a matter of finding where the code is..

Case with kickstand?

I know, the damn things not even out yet, but I figured I'd get the ball rolling in this section.
Coming from an EVO, I have to say that one of the things I'll miss most when I get the Epic is the kickstand. Has anyone seen cases with kickstands built in? Obviously not for the Epic yet, but for any phone? Do quality kickstand cases even exist? I've seen one or two on google, but they looked like crap. What do you think the odds are that there will be a kickstand case out for the Epic, considering it's being marketed as a multimedia powerhouse?
I've seen a pretty good looking case for the iPhone that had a built in kickstand, and some for the iPad, so I think that they'll make a kickstand case for the epic soon after it comes out.
BodyGlove made one for the Hero.
I made one my self for the hero out of a cheap-o snap on case I got of Amazon for 89 cents. Cut out a section of the back and hinged it with a piece of a paper clip...it was "Epic"

HAHA Nope, completely forgot about it.
I'll go home tonight and at least snap a few pictures of it. It works pretty well, except the kickstand sometimes pops out when you try and pull it out of your pocket and gets hung.
Usually 3rd party case makers will release something like this, I know the orginal Droid had a case made with a kickstand long before the Evo.

That looks hilarious, but I'd actually use it.
I do believe that Samsung's official case for the phone will act as a kickstand. I can't post a link to it, but googling "ET-0D700BLGHPW" should pull it up on Samsung's website.

That case is incredibly ugly, and it wont work on the epic anyway.
yea, doesn't seem like it will work with the keyboard...and it's fugly.
i forgot about the iplunge, but it doesn't look like it'll be comfy in the pocket.
I'm reviving this thread. Just got my epic, and I want a kickstand so bad. I've done some googling and I can't find bunk.
Any news on this topic? Surely the iPlunge isn't our only solution.

The charging dock is tilted at the same angle as the EVO's kickstand. Only problem is, the dock's headphone jack doesn't work. Other than that, it works great. It's just.... not as portable.
Yea, I'm looking for something portable.
I did some research on tripods. They're more portable, cheaper, and can elevate the camera to eye level (as well as being posable).
Due to my account restrictions I can't post the links. Go to dealextreme[dot]com and search "Cell phone tripod".

Ok, here you go. Easy, portable, keeps your phone standing.
It's not going to work with the keyboard out, but it's purty durn cool.

Battery door issue

My battery door at the top on the left and right are not completely flush with the device. There is not a huge gap, but you can see it's not flush. Is anyone else's like this, is this something I should be worried about ?

Seems good, as I said it's not very bad just a bit on each side. It just isn't 100% flush.
Hmmm...it should be flushed
Are you sure the door is latched securely? Sometimes I must really force mine to close. Like sporty377 said, this can affect your signal if the door isn't completely secured.
I am disappointed with the overall quality of the TB exterior. It pales in comparison to my old N1. Seems like HTC did a rush job and threw together a bunch of leftover stuff from the parts bin and said F*ck it. People will buy it regardless, just get it out to the carriers.
Its snapped all the way down. I will get some pics in a few. It doesn't seem like it's affecting anything.
Pics added. Best pics I could get, which it sort of looks worse in the pics. I don't see it affecting anything. This is a like new bolt, and I have other other like new that is like this also. I do have one more coming tomorrow, which I only hope may be better.

There are a number of "catch points" that need to be squeezed tight and snapped into place around the outer edge of the cover.
If it is tight, and it is within the first 30 days (or did it change to 14--can't recall), and if it's troublesome, have VZW either give you an entirely new phone or a new battery cover.

Looking closely, there is a slight gap at both top corners, but one would have to be looking very closely and specifically for such to notice 'em.

I think all will have a very slight gap, but it should be uniform all the way around the battery door. You could try snapping it on with a different method. Top first, then middle or vice versa.

Do any of you have magnetic cases? The Seido kick-stand case for the N2 causes a similar issue because of the magnet that holds the kick-stand in place.

Yea I have a tri-fold case and it has a magnet to hold it in it's upright position. I thought the magnet went all the way across, so I dismissed it as a possible cause, but I just tested it and it only has a magnet in the center... right where the dead zone is...That really pisses me off
The weird thing is, that same magnet is over the top of the screen while the case is closed, but it hasnt created a dead spot there :/
Do you think its as bad as its gonna get? Or will it get worse if i continue to use the case?

I have this same issue with my galaxy note 8.0 tablet. I sent it in for repair to Samsung and they replaced the lcd and shipped it back with same spen problem still there. I made another service request and now they keep bouncing me around from department to department and ignoring me. Did you fix your tablet and if so, how? Is anyone else having this issue?
Had this same problem with my old atrix. Faulty panel.

Before buying magnetic case check if it is too strong and/or directly facing to the tablet.
Too long exposed to (strong) magnetic field may damage your Wacom digitizer permanently.
My Case is using soft & weak magnetic layer used only for stand.
It doesn't affect the wacom digitizer at all
Also check with another stylus. While it is unlikely I was surprised to discover a similar issue on an e-reader with Wacom digitiser was caused by the stylus and was gone when I used the stylus from my Note 10.1 on it instead.

There is a panel underneath the screen which projects an EM field that your s-pen picks up when you hover it near the screen (that's why it doesn't need batteries, it gets the power from the tablet). I think replacing the LCD wouldn't solve the problem because it's not the display's fault, and i've got no idea how it really looks like inside. As for the service center, you sometimes have to make some noise and call the boss if you want your device properly repaired.
I have the original galaxy note book case, it has a magnet on his back and it doesn't interfere with the S Pen.
How many of you have the original case and also have an S Pen dead zone?
Should I be worried by the magnet in the case?

Saw it on The Verge. I'm wondering if the magnets will be able to hold it up with a bumper on. The image shows that the diameter of the orb is larger than the width of the phone meaning a bumper would stop it from touching the base of the orb... meaning the magnets might not be as strong. I would much rather wait for a video review of peoples experience.

I really hope the magnets will still work when using a case
I'm going to go out on a limb here and speculate that the magnets will still work with the thin TPU cases out there. Reason being, the Nexus 4, when nude, is as slick as greased moose poo and is going to require a fair amount of magnetic pull to keep it from sliding off of the Orb. The TPU cases will probably lessen the pull, but will instead add additional friction, so I'm guessing they'll cancel each other out.
Pure speculation, but that's how I'm rationalizing buying one

I assume they made the OEM bumper the way it is (thin as heck with very little lip) so that it would work with the OEM wireless charger. Only makes sense, but I wouldn't put it past Google/LG to mess this up.
What is the Battery status app being displayed? maybe it comes up when connected to charger 0_o

I laughed at the moose poo! It really does try to slowly sneak towards and edge if you leave it on a glass table or tiled area. I've had a few near drops.
Does anyone else question the usefulness of wireless charging? I think it's quite cool and all that, but it's hardly like plugging in a micro usb cord is especially time consuming. Does anybody know if it charges faster than micro usb? This may be a silly question, but can you charge the phone using both the usb and charging org, in order to charge it quicker?

Greetings Fellow Nexus 4's
So I've been on the hunt for a flip case for the Nexus 4 which flips to the left, the only ones I could find that DID flip to the left either:
Doesn't sit flip to the back properly
Doesn't stay closed
So after much searching I found this. The TETDED Premium Leather Flip Case for the Nexus 4 (Link in the bottom of this thread).
It came fairly quickly, was sent with FedEx, and it got delivered in perfect condition (well wrapped).
The linings are great, the texture feels really nice (doesn't feel cheap at all). The bottom feels like it's made of hard plastic with leather wrapped around it, the top is soft leather (you can "squeeze" it), here are some pictures: (Sorry for some of them having insane amounts of noise, my room is fairly dark and they're taken with the camera on my old O2X)
It engulfs the phone perfectly, nothing is exposed.
The camera lens and flash is clearly visible and free (not obstructed)
There's a hole for the speakers. Headphone jack visible and exposed (not obstructed), with this I don't mean it's exposed to damage.
You can plug the charger in while the case is on.

Overall, very happy with the case, it doesn't feel like it adds bulk to the phone (no issues with putting it into pocket etc.), it feels very secure (not afraid that if I drop the phone it'll shatter into a million pieces), I'd give it 9/10. Not to be a fanboy, but I've been looking for a case like this ever since I got the phone, and this gives me everything I need, it's easy to open with one hand and I can operate the phone with the case flipped all the way back with easy, it doesn't feel like I'm stressing the case, I'm not afraid the phone will spontaneously pop out of the case, the quality is great, the texture is nice and rugged. The only thing I can "point fingers at" is the fact that it's somewhat "hard" (not that hard, just a but harder), to push the volume buttons, but this should self evident as this is a flip case and that's just how they are. Feedback upon the review would also be greatly appreciated.
I'd recommend it to anyone.
This is the case in question:

Kind regards, Neefy
How about when you are in phone call? Does the front flip need to be open when you are in phone call? or we can do the phone call with the front flip closed? And how about the phone call sound? thx
I.. Actually haven't tested it with it closed, I just by default always have it open during calls.

Could you please test it for me?
Big thanks before. I just love the case but I wonder if I can do the phone call when it close.
I recently have had an operation in my mouth, so I'm unable to comfortably make a phone call, once I'm all good again I'll be sure to test it out

How is the clasp on the case, the thing on the flap that keeps the flap closed, does it get annoying but mainly is it too tight so it takes extra effort to open it?

It's quite easy to get open (requires very little force) and doesn't open by itself, I've had my case on since the day I got it (the day this thread was created) and it's still fully functional

That's nice to know, i hope the clasp on mine doesn't take much force to open and close either, I'm dreading that might be the case if I get it
Does the case add a lot of bulk to the phone and take the feel of the phone away?
Thanks much for the information you posted about TETDED and especially for the You Tube video of your manipulating one of its cases. Perhaps because I live in the US, I had never heard of this company and am so pleased that a thread I found when researching reviews for cases saw TETDED mentioned. I'm going to order a case today. Thanks, OhioBabs
