Battery door issue - Thunderbolt General

My battery door at the top on the left and right are not completely flush with the device. There is not a huge gap, but you can see it's not flush. Is anyone else's like this, is this something I should be worried about ?

Seems good, as I said it's not very bad just a bit on each side. It just isn't 100% flush.

Hmmm...it should be flushed

Are you sure the door is latched securely? Sometimes I must really force mine to close. Like sporty377 said, this can affect your signal if the door isn't completely secured.
I am disappointed with the overall quality of the TB exterior. It pales in comparison to my old N1. Seems like HTC did a rush job and threw together a bunch of leftover stuff from the parts bin and said F*ck it. People will buy it regardless, just get it out to the carriers.

Its snapped all the way down. I will get some pics in a few. It doesn't seem like it's affecting anything.

Pics added. Best pics I could get, which it sort of looks worse in the pics. I don't see it affecting anything. This is a like new bolt, and I have other other like new that is like this also. I do have one more coming tomorrow, which I only hope may be better.

There are a number of "catch points" that need to be squeezed tight and snapped into place around the outer edge of the cover.
If it is tight, and it is within the first 30 days (or did it change to 14--can't recall), and if it's troublesome, have VZW either give you an entirely new phone or a new battery cover.

Yeah, mine fits fine, and I probably pull off the battery door every couple days to pull the battery (rebooting after trying another ROM-radio-kernel combo).

Do you have even a slight gap? Or is it very flush ?

Looking closely, there is a slight gap at both top corners, but one would have to be looking very closely and specifically for such to notice 'em.

See that is how mine is. I guess its ok then.

My original cover locks up tight as can be. My extended cover has a tiny bit of play on the top left corner.

And your signal seems to be ok?

I think all will have a very slight gap, but it should be uniform all the way around the battery door. You could try snapping it on with a different method. Top first, then middle or vice versa.

If you have nothing better to do...

i scratched off the matte finish on the metal cover and it revealed a very stunning undercoat. I think it looks much better. I used an expired credit card to scratch it off. do not use anything metal to scratch it off, it will leave a scratch on the undercoat.
Done on a white mt4g. i think the different colored mt4g have a darker back cover.
Also it takes a very long time to do.
Pictures were taken with flash off because it shines that much.

Looks nice. How is the texture of the undercoat? Is it slippery like the stock overcoat or is it more grippy?
it has a lot more grip but it does collect more oils from your hand
Hmmmm....I think I may do this in the next couple of days. I'm also wondering how it may turn out if I use my dremel to create a brushed look...decisions decisions.
I'm not sure if you want to do this, if u look next to you sd card theres a gold contact that touches the inside of the battery cover. So the coating my be a barrier between the metal and our hands to prevent signal issues i.e. Iphone 4 like signal issues. Anyone who's tried this confirm either way? I love the look just don't want to regret it later.
Did you just rub the edge of the card on it for hours? Because I've been doing it for a couple minutes and I don't think it's getting me anywhere.
There was a slight chip where you open the phone and i just used a credit card to dig under it. if you do it right, the paint will chip off into a fine powder

Do we know if the battery cover is powdercoated or anodized? Either way I like the black but the silver does look sexy with the white phone.

If you look on the underside of the cover, the spot on the cover which touches that contact is etched away. This is to ensure contact is made without obstruction. So there is no "barrier" between the cover and this contact. Just the opposite. My guess is that it is a ground circuit to divert static electricity. Since the cover is made of metal, this would make sense. Scratching off the outer dullcoat should not have any negative effect.

Hello All,
I was wondering for those of you that don't have the wifi death grip issue could you please post pics of your back cover & phone. I want to know how you guys aren't having that issue since majority of us are.
Thanks
anyone???????????
I doubt you would be able to see any difference in the back cases. They all look exactly the same.

No they don't. There are slight differences on the back case of some devices. Some users that were comparing sensations that had different screen manufacturers noticed that.
What I don't know is if those small differences really affect the death grip
I don't have the deathgrip. Ill post pics tomorrow

Still waiting for the pics .......
The main difference as I have read is let's say "copper made looking connectors" number. The covers with 3 connectors on top side mostly do not have death grip, while those with 2 have, as I have too Below are sample pics found on the net.
3 connectors on top side

2 connectors on top side
I have a back cover with 3 connectors at the top. Came with the phone. And I assure you, I DO have the death grip. Sitting 10 feet away from my router will drop it only 1 bar, no problem. If I'm in another room, holding it in landscape will drop the connection completely in about 10 seconds.

Very disappointing and annoying case.. I thought that the cover with 3 connectors on top could solve the issue Wonder how did the HTC allow manufacturing defective units and after all send it to the customers as accurate
Oh man, that's nothing. You want to see defective, just wait until your touchscreen starts acting up and you can't drag the ring to unlock your phone (especially for an incoming call...)
If your Sensation only exhibits the grip of death, you're doing OK!

Same exact here. I have the 3 copper things on the top portion and if I am in a room about 15-20 feet away from the router, I can lose my wifi completely if in landscape mode.
Same here, I have 3 pins and the death grip.
I have 3 pins and no Wifi issues or dead screen issues. This most likely has something to do with the dates of manufacture.
no death grip at all even when i cover the whole phone with my hands still no death grip, i also have the tmobile rubber case.

no loss of signal

It's so weird that some have it and some don't. Is it something to do with the router settings cause I have the 3 pins as well and have the death grip issue......luckily I don't have anything wrong with the screen being unresponsive. Since Rogers is launching the Evo 3d i'm thinking about getting rid of the sensation........I just hope before my decision someone finds a fix for this.....thanks to everyone who posted pics of there back covers.....My back cover is dated 2011-05-22
I have 2 pins with no problems either

Sorry guys, I'll try to get a pic of it on the phone tonight if I get a chance. I'm on tour, so I haven't had time to get a pic yet, but I will... and to the "hater", sarcasm IS funny but please understand that I am not by any means using the "bumper" I made as a dd case. I was bored and had the cheapy case I bought at a mall kiosk in front of me as I was putting my real dd case on it and thought it looked a lot like a bumper for the iPhone 4 aside from the hard plastic back. My actual dd case is a white Casemate Pop case, and it's sexy as all hell, lol. Again, the bumper thing was for grins, I'm destructive when I'm bored
Here are a couple of quick pics I snagged. It isn't perfect by any means, but it was fun to do
That's funny i took a Dremel to one of my Infuse cases also to make a bumper like my ole iphne4.

Jokes Aside
Jokes aside, I have a question regarding this bumper, as I chopped one together for my extended battery Infuse.
Has anyone figured out a way to keep one of these from falling off? It's the only reliable protection for my extended battery, but it gets shoved off the phone every time I put it in my pocket.
Does anyone thing there may be a way to make it 'stick' to the phone?
Just a thought.

it's all in your choice of case to butcher... Mine has no trouble whatsoever with staying on. Check the materials used in construction, mainly how rigid the sides are on the original case you're cutting. My case used two different materials for the "bumper" area and the back. The rubber of the sides was pretty rigid and the back was a hard plastic...

I have like 5 of those cases. might do it tonight. and as regarding to it falling off. on a TPU case it wont because the case kinda hugs the screen a bit on the front.

Who else? ''beatsaudio'' logo on the back cover disappearing

So, I've noticed the ''beatsaudio'' logo on the back of my One S is slowly disappearing. Kinda small detail, but still not nice to see that after only a couple of months, the phone shows (small) quality error like this.
Who else has this?
Jason M: Hi, thank you for contacting HTC Support, I am looking in to your query now.
Jason M: Sorry to hear that. This would be classed as user wear & tear, and not a warranty issue, sorry to say.
Jason M: I have literally no other reports of such an incident. This would not be a warranty cover.
Jason M: The full conditions of your warranty can be found at - http://www.htc.com/www/help/warranty-statement/
Me: Too bad. Maybe I'll see if I can rmove the logo completely myself.

My fiancee's is completely removed and mine just has the beats part removed.
I removed it with a metal 3.5-6.5mm audio jack converter, on the grey version. Definitely not recommended on the black version. The grey version seems resistant to any kind of scratching, whereas the black version.. well, you know the issues with the black version.
Just got a refurbished one a couple of days ago since my first one had WiFi problems. And now I'm noticing my logo is disappearing . Never noticed till now. What a shame.

Good, the beats logo is stupid. I wish mine would fade away too.
I hope mine disappears, it's an eyesore to an otherwise beautiful phone
I've had my S for a month now, and only part of the o in "audio" is missing. I usually use a case.

Mine either. Grey and it doesn't even scrape off. At least it's greyscale and not red. Odd, on my MT4G, the "non slip" back of the battery cover would scrape off with a fingernail but the paint on this logo seems impervious to removal.

Not at all. A metal audio jack will do on the grey version without leaving any scratch. I used much force doing so, as well. Make sure to test it first: slightly try to scratch the back of the device with the jack. If you see a "scratch" appearing, wipe it of with your finger. It's only metal dust from the jack. (as long it's not a true gold jack or anything, just a regular lightweight metal.) If you don't see any real scratch as result (if you actually did get a scratch it would be barely noticeable, if not pushed too hard), it's pretty safe to scratch of the logo.

I was thinking maybe some goo gone would do the trick. I once used a common household cleaner to clean my toaster and it wiped the Hamilton logo right off. I was like wtf but come to think of it, it may have been a mixture of ammonia/water or 409.
Sadly my phone has been dropped a few times before the otterbox so it’s got a few minor scratches on the edge and the plastic pieces themselves are pretty dinged up.
I actually just scratched the rest of the text off with my nail.
I kinda like the logo. Mine hasn't come off. Only used ceaseless for about a week. Then I put a case on. Had it since late june

Are these wires coming out of my phone???

This could either be the stupidest question ever or one of the more interesting issues I've ever ran into. I just took my case off of my phone only to find little threads stick between the glass and the metal frame. Whatever they are, they seem to be stuck in there (I don't wanna pull but I did poke at them) leaving me to believe they are wires and not just some type of fuzz. Has anyone seen this before? ??

Edit:
It seems that in fact they are wires. And I've realized that if you put a little pressure on the frame it will move. I guess from taking my case off (spigen clear case) it provided enough room for them to poke out. I'm trying to get them back in
Edit 2:
After looking at this picture from ifixit I'm starting to wonder what there are loose wires in the first place
I'd call Samsung and ask for a new phone if you don't have a warranty.
I can't stand that we aren't able to take the back off in the first place.

There are no wires that exist like that inside the phone. I dont have the phone to look at.....but I would expect them to be some kind of threads from your pocket or your bag or whatever else you have been putting your phone in. Maybe fibreglass spacer in the phone or something from outside.
Wires require ends to be connected...or they are not doing anything anyway....hence just pull them out / cut them off.

One of the 'wires/threads' did fall out.. and looking at the ifixit teardown I do see how there aren't any lose wires. So i'm starting to agree with you. For right now I just put my case back on because I don't have time to really look at them right now until around 6 EST.

Looks like facial hair. I've pulled hair out of the same corner on my phone. My HTC m8 was even worse at ripping hair out of my face.

Casting my vote for beard. Which might be a cause for concern, that doesn't seem like it would be within the build tolerance for this phone...

If those were really broken wires (which would not be formed like that (they would be braided or twisted (that seems single strand))) then you would have all sorts of problems with reception.
Are you getting reception?
I had the same issue with my phone but they were a different color because of being in my pant pockets.
