I currently have a Galaxy Nexus on T-Mobile US, and I'm considering a P6200 to complement it (and use it as a secondary phone). The more obvious solution would probably be the Nexus 7, but I'm getting a lot for the extra $100 or so for a P6200 (keyboard dock option, expandable storage, rear camera with flash, phone capabilities, etc) and I can deal without Jelly Bean. I considered the 7.7, but its at least $100 more expensive and while it is the all-around better tablet, the P6200 will barely fit in my pocket as it is (and I don't want to have to have a bag for the 7.7). And yes, I know I'll only get 2G on T-Mobile until the spectrum roll-out finishes in 2013 - and that's fine by me.
Anyway, I currently have my Galaxy Nexus in tablet mode (ParanoidAndroid), and read that due to the lower resolution of the tablet, a lot of apps still display in phone mode - is this something that can be fixed (either through a mod or ROM) without breaking some important feature (like phone calls, camera, keyboard dock, etc)? I can live with the lower resolution (looked at a Tab 2 in store and thought it was fine), but not having phone apps on a tablet when I currently have the opposite.
Other than that, is there anything else I should know about the tablet - maybe a different tablet I should consider in the 7" size that takes phone calls? The Tab 2 seems to be a downgrade in just about every way and is about the same price so I haven't really considered it.

If you have the means go for nexus 7. If you say that you are getting a lot then think about it as an strategic investment, P6200 is almost (I may be wrong) no longer supported by samsung in terms of official updates and nexus 7 will have updates for long time (in comparison with P6200), also if you get bored with nexus 7, you can sell it easily.
The choice is still yours.....
If u have WiFi available then any tablet would allow u to make calls with groove IP. I have the p6210 WiFi only and use it all the time to make calls and text using groove IP. All u need is a Google voice account and you're good.

I don't doubt that the P6200 probably won't be supported much longer (if at all), but an official ICS is good enough for me - but only if I can get tablet apps like mentioned. And I've had two tablets in the past that were Wifi-only (Streak 7 and Nook Color) and loved them both, but found little use for them considering how often I wasn't near a WiFi connection (and didn't want to waste battery turning my phone into a hotspot instead of just using it instead). I can basically guarantee I'll have buyers remorse with the Nexus 7 for a variety of reasons excluding it being Wifi-only, as great of a tablet it is.

But the issue is that I'm basically never at a WiFi connection longer than a few minutes outside of my house, and I use my phone much more outside of the house. Plus, I want to keep the same phone number without porting it over to Google Voice.

If you can confirm someone has gotten voice and data to work on a 6200 on tmobile, I would say absolutly go for it. i would strongly recommend it. i had a tmobile streak 7 as well. The tab plus 6200 is such a fantastic all in one device.
Oh and you migh want to double check the frequenices of tab plus, and male sure you can get tmobile 3G or HSPA, edge speeds would not be good with this device.
May we ask where you are finding a 6200 for ~$350??

Since it's not a T-Mobile device, AFAIK T-Mobile has no way of knowing whether its a tablet or phone and therefore it should work with voice/text/data. And I know it'll work on EDGE, but that's fine honestly - most of the content I'll be viewing will be preloaded on a microSD card, I'm mostly using it so I can more comfortably view it than on my phone and without worrying about having two devices to carry. Again, I just have a bad habit of regretting WiFi tablets.
And I saw one Amazon seller with a few for that price, and I've seen a few on eBay (albeit used) for around that much lately.

I have a Viewsonic GTab that is running beautifully with Tnt Lite v2.2. I find myself fighting with my wife over who gets to use it, so I've been considering purchasing another.
My employer has a corporate plan with AT&T and my boss said I could order a Samsung Galaxy Tab (with data plan) and the company would pay for it. They won't reimburse me for another GTab. It's the Galaxy Tab for free or GTab at my own expense. The data plan isn't a big issue since I already have a company-paid MiFi device.
My question is, if you were in my position would you take the free Galaxy Tab with data plan, or would you purchase another GTab? The GTab's 10" screen is a nice size and the quality is bearable (it doesn't bother me as much as other people), but it's definitely not a portable device. On the flip side, from what I've read the Galaxy Tab is sort of slow and isn't as powerful as the GTab.
What I need is a powerful device that will fully support Flash (like TnT Lite v2.2 does), but I also need stability and an upgrade path to Android v2.3. So far my GTab is super stable.
The high price tag of the Galaxy Tab seems to have hindered development, but from what I hear some recent ROMs are working very well.
What would you do in my position?

I think the galaxy looks slick, 3g seems nice but it is your employers 3g is that possibly an issue?

1.) I like the size of the GTab screen, but it is definitely not a portable device. I played with the Galaxy Tab and the size is exactly what I want.
2.) We use an AT&T MiFi device with the GTab when we aren't at home, so mobile Internet access would be identical on both devices, except that the MiFi allows 5GB/month and the Galaxy Tab data plan only allows 2GB/month. I could switch to the MiFi when I hit the 2GB limit.
3.) There are basically NO accessories for the GTab right now, including protective cases, so we have to be ridiculously careful with the tablet. The Galaxy Tab has a nice protective rubber case that I would get.
4.) I'm sure both devices will do what I want, but I just have a feeling that the GTab will be much faster than the Galaxy Tab.
5.) There aren't any issues using the company paid 3G plan for whatever I want, as long as I don't cause any overage charges.
6.) It's not an issue of free vs. paid. I wouldn't use an Apple product even if someone paid me to do so. I hate Apple that much. The same goes with this. I don't want a free but crappy device...
Can anyone else chime in?
I have looked at the 3G devices and they really are cool. But for all the hardware cool, I don't see how I could ever live with the 5 gig data plan.

I think people who want a tablet via wireless phone should take a careful look at whether data plans will allow them to do what they want day after day.

P. S. -- I still have an old Motorola flip phone rather than a smart phone for the same reason.
For me it's screen size, I played with the galaxy at best buy, it was too small.
I enjoy my gtab and it's turning heads everywhere I go. If I need 3g I simply connect to my hero and away I go.
I'd go for the one you want, for me I would not be asking others as I am the one that has to enjoy it.

Yes, but the Galaxy Tab does have WiFi. You can turn off 3G and use WiFi at home or wherever else it is available.

Ok, regarding your question. I'd get another gtab, why? Because you've already spent all the time learning the one you've got, and optimizing the setup. Surely new updates will come out, which you will spend more time on. Why do that for two separate devices/manufacturers/hardware profiles? Go with the gtab and save yourself the trouble (also your wife will be happy with future updates riding your coat-tails).

My "dilemma" is that I am looking for a solution that will provide communications in a lot of places and not just be dependent on WiFi. I have had several Android tablets and both versions of the iPad at one time or another (primarily setting them up for family), and up to now have relied on a PHS-300 and a USB WiMax stick for communications for the tablet, and an Optimus V on Virgin Mobile for phone/VOIP.
So I have two solutions I am considering in a couple of weeks when I get my XMas bonus. In both cases I am planning to us T-Mobile as the provider using their new $30/month plan for 5 gigs of 3G/4G data and 100 minutes of voice, and GrooveIP to do VOIP (which is what I have used on my current phone).
Solution A is to get a Samsung Exhibit II, set it up with WiFi tethering, and then get a Transformer Prime. This will require me to carry a bag with the Transformer, and means I may sometimes have to rely on the phone where it isn't convenient to lug the Prime. On the other hand, the quad-core Prime may eventually let me do things I can't do on a dual-core machine, and it is a 10+ inch screen which should make for easier reading.
Solution B is to get a Streak 7 4G model and a stereo bluetooth headset. This would mean I'd have the tablet with me all the time (I borrowed my wife's Kindle Fire and confirmed it fits in my pants pocket), although calls might be a bit inconvenient if I don't have the headset handy. That is a dual-core tablet, and at this time, I don't know of many things in the Android market that I would need more than that to do.
Solution A runs around $800-$900, while solution B runs around $500-$600. So is Solution A worth the extra $300-$400 and the occasional inconvenience? Anything you know about any of the mentioned devices I might want to be aware of?

First impressions are incredibly favourable.
It feels absolutely incredible in the hand with how slim it is, and the build materials are stellar - a refreshing change from Samsung's usual gear (every now and again they show that they really can make extremely classy looking and feeling devices, only wish they did that more often!). The screen is amazing, but I only realised how good it is when I had it next to my Transformer Prime - I thought the Prime's screen was stellar (best on a tablet yet I thought) but the 7.7 makes it look thoroughly average.
It's HC 3.2 with TW, and runs pretty well with just the occasional tiny micro-hitch here and there (the Prime's Tegra 3 is the only device I've had so far that could drive HC well enough to call 'buttery'). I noted with interest that there is no lag typing in the browser with a software keyboard, must be something Samsung have done to it because even the Prime had attrocious lag in HC in browser typing...
Need to get some stupid proprietary connectors tomorrow and can then do usual connectivity test and video...
Questions?
where'd you get it? is it GSM? does it have voice calling feature enabled? is the SAMOLED+ as good as its hyped up to be. How much did it cost?

Got it from Mobicity, mine isn't the 3G one, but it is available (and by the looks of it calling should be possible for those inclined!).
The SAMOLED+ is pretty stunning. Only a couple of days ago I was saying how the Transformer Prime has the best screen on a tablet but side-by-side the 7.7 blows it away (I think in Super-IPS mode the Prime will have a significant advantage for outdoors usability though).
Price was in the order of $750NZD from memory, as always with a device at release there is a premium to be paid.

Yep, if you're happy with that screen size I see no reason not to wait and pick up the ASUS one, amazing price point on that!
Yep.. the only thing they didn't do well is... price Almost twice as much as for the 7+ ?!? For a bumped screen and CPU clock? Come on Samsung, you can do better!
For that price I would expect it to be twice as fast and have at least HDMI out built it...

Kiwi's lose out on price; in Australia you can pick the wifi version up for about $550. I reckon I've seen it on the grey market for about $500.

I also have the wifi version and its really amazing...screen is just wow..
Does your touchwiz version allows editing mini apps tray ..somehow some people with 3g version seems to have it but mine does not

Weight :Tab+ is 345 gm , 7.7 is 340 gm.
Thickness : Tab+ 9.9 mm , 7.7 is 7.9 mm
Hi, I have the gsm 3g version, it does indeed have voice calls its kind of like a big phone really, I got mine from panamoz.com ordered on monday night and recieved at 1pm on the friday.

They shipped it on Tuesday and I got it on Thursday - how convenient that we had a winter storm in Chicago and we got sent home from work, so I could be home to receive it :-D The model I have is the silver-backed one, and looks like it came from Hong Kong.
I took it to an AT&T store today to activate it on a month-to-month data plan. The staff were drooling over it! FYI for anyone else doing the same thing, they had to fake the IMEI in their system to get it to come up with the correct data plan, as their system did not recognise my Tab's IMEI, with it not being an AT&T device. They ended up using the IMEI of one of the HSDPA (*not* LTE) tablets they had in the store. Also, after it was all activated, I had to go into the APN settings and add a new APN titled "broadband" (no username/password) for data to actually work.
I love this Tab - the hardware is spectacular, and the screen is out of this world! My only dilemma is what to do about my Tab 7plus, which I've had for about a month. I'm still within return period for that, but there's something about the 7plus where, for all the tech whizzbangery of the 7.7, the 7plus just feels that little bit more personal.... It might just be that because the 7plus has the rougher back, it's a bit easier to hold one-handed. The 7.7 is a bit slippy.
About ready to order a 7.7 myself from negri...but wifi only. Just worried about U.S. Developed roms being compatible down the road when the US version launches. Does your IR blaster work?

I also got a 7.7 3g a couple days ago and registered here to share some impressions and questions. Coming from a galaxy s plus and iPad, this is my first experience with honeycomb.
The hardware is great, as has been said many times. The tablet is gorgeous, a little heavier than it's svelte looks may suggest and feels solid, gets barely warm, a pleasure to hold.
The size is ideal for web browsing on the move, pages in landscape are generally easy to read without need of zooming and panning around. I also find amoled screens to strain eyes a little less than lcd thanks to the potentially darker colors.
Battery life is ok, not incredible. I got over 8 hours of random use with wifi and auto screen luminosity.
The software is a different story.
The preloaded Swype keyboard is bugged. On large documents, double tapping a word to select it causes the editor to scroll to the top and select a random block from the first lines. The frequency of this happening seems correlated with the dimension of the document - almost always on the 100Kb file I'm working with now, but you don't need to get nearly as large.
I verified the bug with three different editors, jota, 920, and the built in note app. It's less apparent on the latter as it only handles short notes, but still happens constantly on specific words.
It's especially annoying because the keyboard is otherwise excellent, imo more responsive to fast swipes and accurate in text prediction than the commercial SlideIT alternative, it even has cursor and edit keys accessible with a couple taps.
Other issues I imagine belong to honeycomb and well known here, but were a surprise to me, used to a fine gingerbread experience.
The interface suffers from significant hiccups. Apps can't write on the micro SD, thought as consolation Samsung's preloaded file manager allows to copy data to it.
Multitasking is unreliable for serious work as background apps get randomly closed and lose data. Registering to this forum I left Dolphin browser to open the verification email, went back to find all tabs gone. The same browser on a phone with half the ram rarely if ever had the issue.
App crashes have also been much more common, included one with the pre installed pen memo app, few with the settings manager, more with Dolphin.
I'll cut it before this becomes a rant on the OS. I'm interested in knowing if others can reproduce the keyboard problem, to make sure it's not my device to be defective.
Bottom line, ICS can't come soon enough and hopefully will address issues. This tablet needs and deserves better than the stuff it's running now.
Btw, I got it from Negri too, excellent service. There is no IR gun, it may be specific to other models or just have been removed from the final specs.

I find swipe-type keyboards rather useless on tablets because of the size of the device, and even though this one is smaller I still never want to use them here either.
Try Swiftkey Tablet X or Thumb Keyboard, much better for me (I would think the majority of Android tablet owners are using one of these two keyboards).

Dolphin seems to have issues at the moment, I'm seeing reports like that across multiple device forums, try Opera Mobile instead?
I've not had any problems with app crashes myself.
Anyone tried playing YouTube videos in a browser in Galaxy Tab 7.7? I've tried stock browser and Dolphin Browser, but neither seems to be able to play YouTube videos. (I was able to do so when I was using Galaxy S II without the YouTube app.) The latest version of Adobe Flash Player is installed. Any ideas?

I love this Tab - the hardware is spectacular, and the screen is out of this world! My only dilemma is what to do about my Tab 7plus, which I've had for about a month. I'm still within return period for that, but there's something about the 7plus where, for all the tech whizzbangery of the 7.7, the 7plus just feels that little bit more personal.... It might just be that because the 7plus has the rougher back, it's a bit easier to hold one-handed. The 7.7 is a bit slippy.

congrats. I would have never brought this into my local AT&T store, they would have tried to make sure it never gets used on their network, and would have threatened me to cancel my unlimited data plan (grandfathered). you're a brave man. they were very nice to help you.
I might actually want the 7.7, if it had a thin/slim bezel.

Is it worth buying? I've looked at the reviews and they are all pretty good, I like the touchwize element and the look of the Samsung customised apps on it.

Well overall, this is a pretty solid tablet. Best in class IMO.
But, that being said, it still has its quirks.
Not to mention no ICS (and we all question whether we'll get it or not)
Also, if u decide to get it, don't expect any AOSP (CM, AOKP, MIUI) for some time. Samsung isn't cooperating with us by withholding some important bits of source that we need.

It's a great tablet. I've had an iPad, a Samsung Galaxy Tab (original 3G 7 inch) a Galaxy Tab 10.1 and now this, and this is the first one I have been completely happy with.
The hardware is similar to the SGS2, which means its smooth and fast, with sufficient battery life for all the travelling I do. The SGT10.1 had the rather poor Tegra2 chipset which I found quite disappointing, whereas the Xynos in the SGT7+ is fast and stable. The fact that it has a microSD slot is very important to me (The SGT10.1 lacked one and therefore if you got a 16GB one, you were stuck with about 13GB of storage).
At the moment it lacks ICS, but having been using ICS on my Galaxy Nexus for a couple of months, I can live with Honeycomb for now.
I'll be sticking with my SGT7+ for a while I think!
I'm happy with mine overall, but it does have a few issues that may be common to all firmware versions:
1. Bluetooth keyboard/mouse lag has been reported.
2. Analog audio output volume can be low/problematic (I always use a bt headset).
3. I've noticed network lag on every wifi AP I've connected to: 20-150ms fluctuating ping latency to LAN and Internet hosts. Other devices on my LAN, including my old Nook Color, get the expected sub-10ms pings to each other.

I enjoy this tablet.
I bought this for the 7" form factor. I think it works great. I use it for taking notes, or outlining ideas, along with lots of reading. Web, E-Book, work document review whatever... it works just fine. I also like it for a "second Screen" for podcasts while I'm browsing on my desktop PC.
Cons for me are it seems to warm up on the left side with heavy wifi use, and that is mildly annoying, but tolerable. Touch Wiz seemed to talk up a bunch of RAM and crash on me, I replaced it with Go Launcher HD and haven't had a problem since. I just wish I could ditch it completely.
As far as I can tell at this moment, there isn't a another 7" tablet with the same battery life, feature set, and price point. Ultimately that is why I picked one up.
So TouchWiz isn't good on it?
It was one of the reasons why I'd buy it...

TouchWiz is fine on mine and on the other units I purchased for floor-use at the plant.
I have had nearly zero issues out of my 7+. Former iPad, Xoom, and Kindle Fire owner here, and the 7+ is easily the best tablet I have owned, TouchWiz included.

I have had my SGT 7 plus for about a month, and it is my favorite of our five tablets, which include a Nook Color, a Xoom and 2 Transformer 102s; all of which have ICS. It works very smoothly and has all the power I need. However I do not do intensive gaming.
The screen image is bright and clear, and aside of a few force closures, most likely caused by apps mis-behaving, I have had no problems with the stock Honeycomb OS.
Regarding the negative comments about TouchWiz, I feel it has some nice features, but I do not feel the hidden app tray on the bottom of the screen is as handy as it would be if the apps were selectable (if they are I have not figured how).
In response to the comment about TouchWiz consuming a lot of power, I personally have not found that to be the case. To me it just seems to be a feature that is somewhat unobtrusively there if you want to use it (although I would be the first to admit I probably am not familiar with all the features).
Regarding power use in general, compared to my other tablets, my SGT 7 plus is very good. In fact, if I just close the screen, it barely sips power. Of course I am sure that is, in part, because of the way I have it set up.
There are a few things that I wish were different; such as the lack of a stand alone USB connector, and the use of a proprietary charge/usb connector. But to me that is really nitpicking in the overall scheme of things.
The only serious concern I have is the impact the soon to come out SGT 2 7" will have on our getting ICS in a timely manner. There is no doubt in my mind the SGT 7 plus is a better tablet, and an excellent value when bought at the $299 or less sales price even with the Honeycomb OS.
However, it does not have ICS, and presently there is no concrete information as to when/if Samsung will make it available; and, in my opinion, ICS is a much better O.S, so availability of ICS for the SGT 7 plus is a very important consideration in deciding which tablet to buy.
In my opinion, holding prospective and recent customers in limbo in this manner, as Samsung is presently doing, is a terrible way for a company to do business. There is no doubt in my mind the SGT 7 plus is a better built tablet, with more features than the SGT 2 7", but if the SGT 7 plus does not receive the ICS it will be limited in utilization of the new software being developed, and therefore may be basically obsolete within a matter of a couple of months.
Personally, although I love mine, if considering purchasing today, I would wait another month or so to see how this scenario (ICS update) plays out.

For what its worth, Samsung HAS confirmed that we will get the update. Full stop. This was in an officially released press release, which can be found on Samsung Mobile's facebook wall.
Time frame, however, was never officially released except for the fact that the Note and the S2 would get the update first. This, to me, points to no ICS update until the Note gets its update.
Just my two cents on the ICS issue, because I keep seeing people acting like Samsung hasn't said any thing about our tablet, and they have.

Obviously you are not at a decision point of purchasing (or returning a recently purchased) SGT 7 plus.
O.K., lets say you are right when you opine Samsung will release ICS for the 7+. The next question is when?. Two week , two months, six months? Every week new 7" tabs, with ICS installed, and with new and improved features, are coming on the market. Given these circumstances, how long is an appropriate time to wait for a current operating system upgrade for your newly purchased (and only recently released to the market) Tablet.
I love my 7+, but I also want the smoothness, and increased versitility that ICS brings. I have it on my Transformer 102 wifi, and my Xoom wifi(contrary to what an earlier poster stated) and I even have it on my poor little ole Nook Color (CM9), and I do not feel those of us owning Tab 7+ 's, not tied to a carrier should have to wait any longer without some official indication of timing schedule from Samsung.
Let's not lose sight of the fact that the ICS operating system has been available for a considerable amount of time, and, I suspect, most, if not all of the 7 plus's that have been sold in this country were purchased in anticipation of upgrade to ICS in the" not-to-distant future" from their purchase date I know that certainly was the case with me. Instead of providing that upgrade in a timely manner, it appears Samsung chose to undercut their own customers by bringing to market a low cost, downgraded Tab 7, using ICS as a sales feature, while leaving their 7 plus customers out in the cold.
I have two days left to decide whether I will keep my 7 plus. It is not an easy decision. However, whichever way I decide, in the future I will always be very cautious about purchasing samsung phones or tablets.

All the other manufacturers are just as bad, if not worse than Samsung when it comes to upgrades of IS, and it has been a 'feature' of the phone market for as long a there have been phones capable of being upgraded.
The way I look at it is that the tablet still works exactly the same way now as it did when I bought it, irrespective of ICS's prevalence on other tablets. Sure it's nice to get a new OS, and I won't complain if ICS is released in a timely matter, but if honeycomb sucked that badly then it would have been a poor purchase in the first place.
But as for the OP, go enjoy your new tablet, and remember to feel sorry for the chumps with aching arms from holding their heavy iPads up all day =)

There must be some variation in the models. I bought mine in the US in Feb from Best Buy for about £250, and it came with IR, and a cool piece of IR software for controlling TVs, DVD players, etc.
However, it appears Samsung have not changed model numbers despite the hardware change.

Hello everyone.
I'm a economic sciences student and i'm looking for a new Tablet which can make my student life easier and of course entertain me a bit.
I want a Tablet to read PDF files. Also i want to use it for Multimedia like watching Movies, playing Games and i want to use it for car Navigation.
One other question is if a 7 inch Screen is enough for all those tasks , but of course not all at the same time :laugh:
Taking notes is not that important because I'm still faster taking notes "analog" then "digital".
I almost decided to buy the Nexus 7 but then i've seen a review of the Galaxy Note 10.1 and now i can't decide anymore.
All my friends are saying : buy the N7, its the best Tablet atm. Like i said i don't know if i like 7 inches and if its ideal for reading PDF's.
I also miss the 3G connection because because I use car Navigation a lot and real time traffic reports are important for me .
The Phone and Message features that are included in the Note are awesome, but i heared many times now that the Display is not so good @the Note 10.1.
The N7 has already a big development community and that is what I'm also feared by the Note 10.1 because i like to flash my devices and reach with them the best performance.
It would be very nice if sombody could give me a advice because i'm getting tired of searching pro and contras

We have both tablets at our house - love them both. My son uses the Nexus in school with a bluetooth keyboard case and can do papers with it and print wireless to our printer at the house. The screen on the Nexus 7 is same resolution as the Note 10.1 (1280X800) but in a smaller package so everything seems just a little bit sharper (note 10.1 screen is also great, I have no complaints with it). if most of what your doing is consumption type activities (reading, watching movies, playing games etc..) then the Nexus accomplishes that very well. The only down side (for me) on the Nexus 7 is no extra micro SD slot for storage, my son uses a dongle to plug in a USB drive and that works well. Overall the Nexus is a very fluid great looking/working devise and you would not go wrong in getting one.
Now the Note 10.1 - Love this one too. For me I value a larger screen, I just cant get used to going back to a smaller 7" screen after using a 10" one (personal preference). Overall performance is very good on the Note and performs all the functions the Nexus 7 does just as well, I can only guess it will get better with JB upgrade coming soon. But where the Note 10.1 really shines for me is the use of the S pen - I use the S pen all day taking notes and using the multi tasking that this tablet has incorporated into it. For you however this big plus may not be the advantage it is for me, based on what you said you wanted to use the tablet for. It almost seems like you should be looking at other options...just straight newer Tegra 3 type tablets and not just limiting yourself to just these two options. As an example my older Transformer TF101 will do everything you just outlined you wanted a tablet to do and its over a year old now (granted not as smooth as the newer, faster tablets now).
So not sure if you looked at the newer Asus, sony, or other tablets but I'd at least keep my options open. All of the newer tablets work very well in doing what you want, they will all have their pros/cons and design flaws that could have been implemented better. My suggestion is you read up more on some real user reviews on the whole range of newer tablets (if you haven't already) and get more of an idea of the options you have, and lets face it...more options is always a great thing!
Also there is the price point - you never mentioned if that was a factor - the Nexus 7 does seem the best you can get in that price range ($200 - 250). $500 for the lower 16GB Note 10.1 your paying in part for options you will not use (S-pen/active digitizer).

Hi, i bought yesterday the N7 and sold it today. I didn't like it at all.
I will look now for the 10.1. I also looked for the Infinity Pad but i read that it has a lot of problems and also i like the 3G feature on the 10.1N and the micro sd card slot

It would be also nice to know what the difference between the N8000 and the N8013 Model is
I own both GN 10.1 and Nexus 7. If I had to choose one it would definitely be the GN 10.1 for its versatility and capability for all your requirements. The one area where Nexus 7 has an edge is one-hand portability for in car use and for GPS. If you can afford it get both.

That's another reason to get the Note then! I would definitely recommend this tablet as it is very stable and pretty much does everything you would need it to do based on your requirements listed.
The best thing would be for you to purchase one from a store that has a good returns policy and try it out for yourself to make sure it meets most if not all of your requirements, if you are happy, keep it and if not return it.
I chose to keep mine and do not have any regrets.
I have both, and I think 10.1 screen is much more comfortable than 7... Also, Note 10.1 features are amazing...
I just bought my Note 10.1 today and will use it in my abnormal psych class tomorrow. I was impressed the Kno app had my text books for download. To bad I had already bought them for all my classes. This would have saved me money. I also downloaded the Blackboard app and it looks great on this beast. I hope the keyboard comes to the states soon that will be a great added feature for class.

I just got the 8013 Note 10.1 yesterday and it is really brilliant. I downloaded all the pdfs for my Real Analysis math class and the S-pen works flawlessly. What's great is it also works seamlessly with EzPdf which I love to use. Since the 8013 is wifi only I'm not sure how it will help with gps if you make a wrong turn though.. It came with ICS 4.0.4 but I hear JB is out soon. I haven't rooted Samsung products before so I'm going to wait till some flawless root method comes out. Battery life is much longer than I had anticipated. Haven't charged it yet since it has been out of the box yesterday and there is still 65% left- I wonder how long a full charge will last ^^, good luck!

Get a navigation app (Sygic is what I use) that allows for offline navigation. Basically you pre download entire maps like a normally functioning gps unit has. With Google maps you can only download a set area around your destination if I remember correctly.
Once you have an offline navigation app feel free to get lost.

Sorry to hijack your thread but i am in the exact same predicament i was about to pull the trigger on the Nexus 7 but the Note 10.1 was released and i'm debating whether to take the plunge. Can anyone comment on battery life, output to tv on the note and also do any of you find the tablet useful when having a phone such as a Galaxy S3

For my first initial charge yesterday, I got just over 8 hours with 80% screen time and 12% battery life left. Thats without the battery being settled and me playing on it all afternoon and evening. A couple more cycles and I expect it to get better. I have the Galaxy Note phone and paired the two but havn't tried anything between them yet. Not sure you can like the Blackberry's phones and Playbook. Going to have to look into it.

From what I can gather media can be shared between devices through Samsungs Allshare app which connects through wifi. I am at work and cant set it up right now, but from what I have seen its like DLNA except exclusive to Samsung devices that contain the app.

Just FYI, after three hours of note taking in two classes, there isnt even a hint of a scratch from using the stylus. Takes a little getting used to but it works great. Between S Note and Polaris Office I prefer using Polaris for my class notes. The handwritting to text works better and also has prediction. No more trying to decipher my chicken scratch before a test. I can also save in word format or PDF when done and then just upload it to dropbox to sync to my other devices.
