Is it worth buying? I've looked at the reviews and they are all pretty good, I like the touchwize element and the look of the Samsung customised apps on it.
I recently bricked my Sony Tablet S, so looking for something a little different until it's fixed!

Well overall, this is a pretty solid tablet. Best in class IMO.
But, that being said, it still has its quirks.
Not to mention no ICS (and we all question whether we'll get it or not)
Also, if u decide to get it, don't expect any AOSP (CM, AOKP, MIUI) for some time. Samsung isn't cooperating with us by withholding some important bits of source that we need.

It's a great tablet. I've had an iPad, a Samsung Galaxy Tab (original 3G 7 inch) a Galaxy Tab 10.1 and now this, and this is the first one I have been completely happy with.
The hardware is similar to the SGS2, which means its smooth and fast, with sufficient battery life for all the travelling I do. The SGT10.1 had the rather poor Tegra2 chipset which I found quite disappointing, whereas the Xynos in the SGT7+ is fast and stable. The fact that it has a microSD slot is very important to me (The SGT10.1 lacked one and therefore if you got a 16GB one, you were stuck with about 13GB of storage).
At the moment it lacks ICS, but having been using ICS on my Galaxy Nexus for a couple of months, I can live with Honeycomb for now.
I'll be sticking with my SGT7+ for a while I think!
I'm happy with mine overall, but it does have a few issues that may be common to all firmware versions:
1. Bluetooth keyboard/mouse lag has been reported.
2. Analog audio output volume can be low/problematic (I always use a bt headset).
3. I've noticed network lag on every wifi AP I've connected to: 20-150ms fluctuating ping latency to LAN and Internet hosts. Other devices on my LAN, including my old Nook Color, get the expected sub-10ms pings to each other.

I enjoy this tablet.
I bought this for the 7" form factor. I think it works great. I use it for taking notes, or outlining ideas, along with lots of reading. Web, E-Book, work document review whatever... it works just fine. I also like it for a "second Screen" for podcasts while I'm browsing on my desktop PC.
Cons for me are it seems to warm up on the left side with heavy wifi use, and that is mildly annoying, but tolerable. Touch Wiz seemed to talk up a bunch of RAM and crash on me, I replaced it with Go Launcher HD and haven't had a problem since. I just wish I could ditch it completely.
As far as I can tell at this moment, there isn't a another 7" tablet with the same battery life, feature set, and price point. Ultimately that is why I picked one up.
So TouchWiz isn't good on it?
It was one of the reasons why I'd buy it...

TouchWiz is fine on mine and on the other units I purchased for floor-use at the plant.
I have had nearly zero issues out of my 7+. Former iPad, Xoom, and Kindle Fire owner here, and the 7+ is easily the best tablet I have owned, TouchWiz included.

I have had my SGT 7 plus for about a month, and it is my favorite of our five tablets, which include a Nook Color, a Xoom and 2 Transformer 102s; all of which have ICS. It works very smoothly and has all the power I need. However I do not do intensive gaming.
The screen image is bright and clear, and aside of a few force closures, most likely caused by apps mis-behaving, I have had no problems with the stock Honeycomb OS.
Regarding the negative comments about TouchWiz, I feel it has some nice features, but I do not feel the hidden app tray on the bottom of the screen is as handy as it would be if the apps were selectable (if they are I have not figured how).
In response to the comment about TouchWiz consuming a lot of power, I personally have not found that to be the case. To me it just seems to be a feature that is somewhat unobtrusively there if you want to use it (although I would be the first to admit I probably am not familiar with all the features).
Regarding power use in general, compared to my other tablets, my SGT 7 plus is very good. In fact, if I just close the screen, it barely sips power. Of course I am sure that is, in part, because of the way I have it set up.
There are a few things that I wish were different; such as the lack of a stand alone USB connector, and the use of a proprietary charge/usb connector. But to me that is really nitpicking in the overall scheme of things.
The only serious concern I have is the impact the soon to come out SGT 2 7" will have on our getting ICS in a timely manner. There is no doubt in my mind the SGT 7 plus is a better tablet, and an excellent value when bought at the $299 or less sales price even with the Honeycomb OS.
However, it does not have ICS, and presently there is no concrete information as to when/if Samsung will make it available; and, in my opinion, ICS is a much better O.S, so availability of ICS for the SGT 7 plus is a very important consideration in deciding which tablet to buy.
In my opinion, holding prospective and recent customers in limbo in this manner, as Samsung is presently doing, is a terrible way for a company to do business. There is no doubt in my mind the SGT 7 plus is a better built tablet, with more features than the SGT 2 7", but if the SGT 7 plus does not receive the ICS it will be limited in utilization of the new software being developed, and therefore may be basically obsolete within a matter of a couple of months.
Personally, although I love mine, if considering purchasing today, I would wait another month or so to see how this scenario (ICS update) plays out.

For what its worth, Samsung HAS confirmed that we will get the update. Full stop. This was in an officially released press release, which can be found on Samsung Mobile's facebook wall.
Time frame, however, was never officially released except for the fact that the Note and the S2 would get the update first. This, to me, points to no ICS update until the Note gets its update.
Just my two cents on the ICS issue, because I keep seeing people acting like Samsung hasn't said any thing about our tablet, and they have.

Obviously you are not at a decision point of purchasing (or returning a recently purchased) SGT 7 plus.
O.K., lets say you are right when you opine Samsung will release ICS for the 7+. The next question is when?. Two week , two months, six months? Every week new 7" tabs, with ICS installed, and with new and improved features, are coming on the market. Given these circumstances, how long is an appropriate time to wait for a current operating system upgrade for your newly purchased (and only recently released to the market) Tablet.
I love my 7+, but I also want the smoothness, and increased versitility that ICS brings. I have it on my Transformer 102 wifi, and my Xoom wifi(contrary to what an earlier poster stated) and I even have it on my poor little ole Nook Color (CM9), and I do not feel those of us owning Tab 7+ 's, not tied to a carrier should have to wait any longer without some official indication of timing schedule from Samsung.
Let's not lose sight of the fact that the ICS operating system has been available for a considerable amount of time, and, I suspect, most, if not all of the 7 plus's that have been sold in this country were purchased in anticipation of upgrade to ICS in the" not-to-distant future" from their purchase date I know that certainly was the case with me. Instead of providing that upgrade in a timely manner, it appears Samsung chose to undercut their own customers by bringing to market a low cost, downgraded Tab 7, using ICS as a sales feature, while leaving their 7 plus customers out in the cold.
I have two days left to decide whether I will keep my 7 plus. It is not an easy decision. However, whichever way I decide, in the future I will always be very cautious about purchasing samsung phones or tablets.

All the other manufacturers are just as bad, if not worse than Samsung when it comes to upgrades of IS, and it has been a 'feature' of the phone market for as long a there have been phones capable of being upgraded.
The way I look at it is that the tablet still works exactly the same way now as it did when I bought it, irrespective of ICS's prevalence on other tablets. Sure it's nice to get a new OS, and I won't complain if ICS is released in a timely matter, but if honeycomb sucked that badly then it would have been a poor purchase in the first place.
But as for the OP, go enjoy your new tablet, and remember to feel sorry for the chumps with aching arms from holding their heavy iPads up all day =)

Thanks guy, arrived yesterday and what a fantastic device. Alot better than the Son Table S, although I paid £270 for mine and noticed there was no IR?

There must be some variation in the models. I bought mine in the US in Feb from Best Buy for about £250, and it came with IR, and a cool piece of IR software for controlling TVs, DVD players, etc.
However, it appears Samsung have not changed model numbers despite the hardware change.

This was how I felt about the galaxy note phone that I currently have as well. Accordingly, I feel that when the galaxy note 2 10.1 tablet comes out... it will have significant OS improvements that will make it much better.... Only for this reason am I considering returning the product just to be more patient for the second generation... your thoughts?

The later generations are typically better, and there are typically later generations coming out all the time, so if you wait for the note 2 10.1, you will find some issues that will be improved on with the note 3 and so on, or some other device. That is how things work and progress, so it really depends on how much money you have if you are able to continue buying the latest and greatest every 6 months or so and want to take the time to get everything set up again. I figure I'll be fine with this one for a couple years and then upgrade a generation or so down the line or go to something else that becomes better. It is never ending as technology is constantly improving and methods for development are always improving and changing.
In order for companies to have money and staff for their proper research and development, people need to purchase their products on the market now and invest that way.
I am perfectly happy with my Note 10.1. I would suspect the Note 10.1 v2 won't be out until late next summer so you have to decide if you want to wait that long go for it.
As for improvements to this I would be curious what you think needs major improvement, so much so you would return this. I am actually quite impressed with the software on this. I have a Galaxy Nexus and Xoom both with Jellybean so I was a little hesitant getting a non Nexus device but I must say Samsung has done a pretty good job with this OS, even TouchWiz is pretty good. While we are promised Jellybean soon, and I am fairly confident we will get Key Lime Pie, I doubt we will see anything after that unless the dev community is able to make it happen. As of now I am good with this because the tablet is good enough not to need much more from the OS.
Speed and responsiveness thanks to the quad core and 2 Gb of RAM is impressive. Unlike the Tegra2 in my Xoom, I believe this hardware will hold up well for the next 2 years of app development. Even with Jellybean on the Xoom, the Note 10.1 with ICS is much smoother (thanks its internals).
All this to say I am very happy with this tablet.

It's kind of a bad comparison you're making. The Note 10.1 is the equivalent of the SGS3 and Note II both h/w and s/w wise. The OG Note I was equivalent to the SGS2 and OG G-Tab 10.1. Samsung sold only 700K OG G-Tab 10.1’s in the U.S. after spending $500K marketing them and distributing them via the U.S. carriers. That’s pretty pitiful considering it was deemed the most compelling Android tablet on the market and the best alternative to the iPad. All the Android tablet makers are also now making W8 tablets. Depending on their success with W8 you may see them greatly reduce or pull out of the Android tablet market completely.
This article talks about Android tablets in a post-W8 tablet world…

The only thing I think that the note misses:
A working and reliable office clone, with the ability to ink
A note taking program that records audio, as it takes not. Like livescribe does, or onenote does. I was quite suprised to find that this doesnt exist in android yet.
A keyboard accessory, that works like a clam. A tranformer type keyboard would be fabulous

Yup. I agree with the others. You're trying to decide if you should own the best android tablet or nothing?. The Note 10.1 stands out in front of the other tablets. So it your looking for the best tablet, this is it. Don't wait.
If you really would like to upgrade when the next model comes out, I would keep the Note 10.1 until then.

What you did not mention is what is that you do not like in the note.
Samsung has given note hardware that is not required at present like 2gb of ram one of the reasons for doing so is to make it future proof upto a certain extent, I belive a life of a laptop is 3 years, cellphone and tablet may be around 2 years and with period I think note would be good enough.
Yes the screen resolution on PAPER looks like it needs improvement but that was I think to keep price down because of the Spen.
But overall I believe its a great tablet.
One thing I can challeng no other tablet can do or will do for a long time to come is write a mail using spen believe me my handwriting on a scale to 1-10 is 1 and still it recognises it and thats something awesome
Thanks for all your responses! My biggest worry / problem with this tablet is to build quality. Overall, for a 500+dollar tablet I feel like its overall aesthetics aren't as sleek nor seem as durable as it should be. [really didn't mind the plastic build on my note phone but I guess a tablet it does seem a little cheap. Secondly, I think the biggest improvement can and will be made in themulti-app functionality. I enjoy the experience of it right now but it is not truly a polished function of Samsung's feature. Included should be hOw S- memo functions. LastIy the biggest disappointments Come from Polaris. I use a bluetooth keyboard to really Use my tablet as a laptop replacement for small tasks such as organising class notes. But I often am frustrated with how Polaris functions. Though the merit of the tablet is its s-pen the inability to be productiveWith a keyboard on Polaris makes me wonder if I should seriously consider Windows...

I think you have formed an opinion against the note if you think polaris is not good enough you can look at other office apps on market place spend few extra buck or dl it from sites
Looks are concerned well once in case they wont matter but I have the bluish grey like the one on SG3 and I love how the back looks but again I have case so its not visible. but then its onces taste. I feel looks wise tablet may not win awards but its not an ugly duckling either. its a look samsung has gone with for all its mobile devices so whether you like it or hate it you have to live with it
After owning the first Galaxy Tab, Asus Transformer and the Galaxy Tab 7.7 the 10.1 note is without a doubt the one i have enjoyed and used the most. The screen resolution is a slight let down after the 7.7 but everything else is best on the market at present so this is a keeper. Good for media and useful for business.

I think u should wait for the tablet that will launch in 2040... it would be perfect. Would have a full frame prismless dslr integrated, will be able to change physical shape, will have quantum computing cpu, 12800 ppi display, ffc (far field communication chip, allowing u to beam photos from distant planets without internet) and will be powered by a nuclear fusion cells that can outlast human life span on one single charge!
But in order to pass this time till next big thing comes... buy note 10.1. It brings a smile on my face everyday! Hopefully it will give u same joy!

This is good stuff. Personally I love this thing and I use it to about 1/10th of its ability. It's fast, smooth, and there is so much to it that I'm just enjoying reading and researching this thing. The great thing about this, and android in general, is options. We have lots of options.
I am always amazed about complaints, particularly in the cell phone arena. People have completely forgotten its a damn phone. If you want a super computer, well go buy one. Same can be said for the tablet market. If you are working on some complicated excel sheet, and you get pissed because something gets corrupted or something, chances are, you should be probably using your computer for that excel sheet that is mission critical for your 8am meeting. Don't get mad cause some formula driven excel sheet got corrupted why you tried to edit or create it on your tablet
My last rant will be about one of my iSheep friends who I let play with it. He held it, turned vertically, then horizontally, then vertically again, repeat a few more times etc. He snapped a couple pictures, then handed it back to me after 45 seconds and said, "this thing is terrible...its clunky and awkward". I looked at him, shook my head, and did the best sheep imitation I could muster. That cult is more then I can handle.

Ok, to make a long story short. I handed in my prime for RMA and got offered to alternatives , a TF700 or a samsung note 10.1.
Now , I had really ****ty experience with the prime. Primarily wi fi issues, but the performance in general was rubbish. With that said there were many aspects of the prime that l liked, Such as the keyboard and battery time.
My question is what are the known issues that with the note 10.1 and it's main drawbacks?
Keyboard isn't a must, nor is the pen, though l would love both! I could in short go for either.
It's kinda time urgent , I only have a few days to decide.
Help?

The note is superior to tf700 in every way except screen resolution. I exchanged 3 tf700 then tried the note, the results is obvious. I only regret not taking the 3g version.

Could you be a bit more detailed?
There are no drawbacks as the software is more refined in every way and the hardware is solid and future proof atleast for year or two
But there only difference is the body and the screen resolution
Apart from that it is better then prime or any other tablet in the market even N10 once it gets JB the reason being the world class developement done by Samsung on the OS
The screen on tf700 was deformed, not well fixed on edges. Less ram, only 1 gb, no dualband n Wi-Fi, no Bluetooth 4, low end internal storage, not as fluent as the note. Much better battery on the note. A lot of random reboots on stock tf700, none on the note.
I have changed the 3 Asus after using each one for a few days. I admit that the resolution was great, but the note is a better tablet overall.

I've read tons of reviews and they go both ways , but it seems the TF700 comes ahead a lot of the time. That's the confusing part. I've tested both in the store, with no clear winner. Screen on Tf is great and they both felt snappy. The pen on the Samsung was fun to use and accurate, but testet a few pens on the transformer and they were pretty good as well. Big issue is 1 gb DDR3 vs 2GB ddr2 , and Tegra vs Exynos. Kinda a bummer considering games and certain apps are tegra focused .
But the old Prime is still in the back of my mind, I\O performance etc...
BUT A BIG DRAW BACK WITH SAMSUNG, I can't plug in a HDMI and USB cable at the same time... kinda need it from time to time ( external drive and HDMI, or game controller and HDMI or...)
I think almost everyone that owns a Note 10.1 went through the same decision. And newer owners are also factoring in the Nexus 10. Obviously the people in this forum chose the Note. You'd get other opinions from forums dedicated to those devices and I suggest you ask and look in those too.
For me, the decision was easy. I dd look at the Asus forums as well as here. In the Asus forums there are tons of post of people having problems. Granted, people with problems tend to find forums. But why do you not see people here posting about problems? The few you do see are mostly folks that tried to either root or flash their units and didn't read the instructions fully. Sure you'll find an occasional legit problem post, but they are so few and far between that it's an effort to find them. That's not the case in the Asus forums.
I spent a lot of money for the Note 10.1. I bought it before any of the recent price drops. I have no buyers remorse at all.
Well good to know. I've posted a similar thread in the ASUS forum just in case, but response has been limited. The big issue l have with the Samsung is lack of ports and weaker battery compared to the ASUS. wouldn't mind a keyboard, but seen that there are dozens of keyboard folios and so on....but again one comes to the issue of battery being drained ( in this case by the bluetooth)
I'm on the fence , 50-50 so that's why I was looking for personal experience with the unit(s). I kinda missed the mark with the Prime , so don't want to mess up again.
BTW I see it mentioned a dozen places, how is the support from Samsung, ie updates etc....?
I owed a prime and had all the bad experiences. I read and read before getting another tablet and everything pointed at the infinity, so I got one. Had it a little over a week and noticed lag from time to time, but nothing major, until I bought the new need for speed... geez, it's unplayable on the infinity. I pulled it up on my note 2 and its flying. So I returned it and got the note 10.1. It flies! The screen is the only advantage the infinity have
I've owned the Transformer Prime for almost a year and I had the Transformer Infinity for about a month before I traded it for a Galaxy Note 10.1.
The memory issues with the transformers is really bad, when you use the browser it constantly hangs and gives ANRs (App not responding). It is basically unusable in the browser. I had the same problem with the Prime and the Infinity, it happens more often when you have multiple apps running.
I debated it for a long time because I really wanted the high resolution, but once I got the Note 10.1 I knew within a day that I made the right choice. Everything works as it should, everything is faster and smoother, graphics intensive games like N.O.V.A. and Dead Trigger actually run better (N.O.V.A was unplayable on the Infinity because it lagged so much). The screen isn't as good, but it isn't worth the issues you have to deal with on the Transformer line.
I used the keyboard dock on the Infinity and loved taking notes in school with it, but since I got the Note 10.1 I started taking notes with the S-Pen and I carry a bluetooth keyboard just in case I need it. I've liked taking notes with the S-Pen so much that I never even use the keyboard anymore.
As a previous prime owner of 8 months, id have to say i have no regrets

-the cheap buttons on keyboard(one snapped off, too easilly)

-allcast(when sammy finally gets its finger out its bum).......stream game over wifi, while using bluetooth gamepad/keyboard/mouse
As a prevoius prime owner yourself, i think your in a position to appreciate this phrase "it just works"......and thats the main thing that makes the things ive lost bearable, trust me its a relief......another thing i like is that it feels more sturdy,
If you can find a tf700 without daily issues, then i'd say go for that, but me i wont trust their quality control on the tablet front for a while
On a side note, battery on the note, even without the extra battery is commendable..........at least 10h constant use on avarage......thats brightness dim, powersave on......by the way powersave is pretty impressive to (limit to1000mhz), no hiccups.
Just to reiterate what banderos101 said,
I'm a former TF101 owner (the original transformer from asus), and I miss the same things he misses. In addition, my transformer often had weird stutterings that may or may not have been associated with the roms I used on it (but it had them on stock too before I rooted and flashed custom roms).
That said, I don't know much about the TF700, but you probably should pick it based on what your primary usage will be. I got the Note instead of another transformer tablet because I take notes using a pen (physics is hard to type notes for) and because it has 2gb RAM. Also, the screen resolution doesn't matter to me much because it didn't put me in shock and awe when I used my friends' iPad retinas and TF700's, but maybe that's because I'm nearsighted.

The big issue l have with the Samsung is lack of ports and weaker battery compared to the ASUS. wouldn't mind a keyboard, but seen that there are dozens of keyboard folios and so on....but again one comes to the issue of battery being drained ( in this case by the bluetooth)
I'm on the fence , 50-50 so that's why I was looking for personal experience with the unit(s). I kinda missed the mark with the Prime , so don't want to mess up again.
BTW I see it mentioned a dozen places, how is the support from Samsung, ie updates etc....?

I'll come at this from a completely different perspective from everyone on this thread. I have an Acer A500. Had it for a few years. Sunday night, my wonderful children decided I needed a new tablet so they dropped my acer out of the car. Off to the store! LOL! I'm not dedicated to any brand at all. I want cheap and as much bang for the buck as I can get. My 2 contenders were the same as yours. Asus Infinity vs Samsung Note. The real question you have to ask is what do you really want the tablet for? What do you expect to get out of the experience? No matter what you read here, the Asus is a better tablet than the Samsung. It has a visibly better screen. It has more storage for the dollar. IE, the 32gb Asus is the same price as the 16GB Samsung. The processor is slightly faster, but the Asus has a 5th independent low power processor that allows it to run much less power therefore slightly longer battery in real world. Average test is about 8 hours for the Samsung, 10 for the Asus.
The Asus also allows you to add the keyboard with an additional battery in the keyboard as well as full sized USB ports etc. So if you are looking for a laptop replacement, it's hard to beat. Now, you're probably asking, why am I putting all this in the Samsung thread?
I bought the Samsung. Why? Because the #1 thing I need from my tablet is the ability to take handwritten notes in meetings and it has to be easy and fast. Bottom line is, the digitizer system on the Note is unbeatable. Period. The Asus can't touch it. The Note is a great screen versus an amazing screen. It's nearly as fast processor wise, 1.4GHz vs 1.6GHz. So while the Asus in my mind is a better tablet, the Samsung Note is better for what I need. And by better I mean, lightyears better. There isn't a tablet on the market that can touch the Note for writing. It is truly paper and pencil good. But if you don't care about that, the Asus is a little better in a lot of ways.
I get 14 hours on the note on regular use, the record being 16 (talking about screen+ WiFi active, not about stand-by). With tf700 i had 11 hours with the first one, the other 2 devices never more than 8 hours (all without the dock, i did not buy one).

Thanks for your post, it's nice to "hear" a slightly different approach. The problem in my case is that I'm kinda looking for the Jack of all trades , pref master of all
The pen idea is really tempting and l hear people praising it to high heaven. I have an old Lenovo x 201 Tablet and loved it for years, but it's kinda big and cumbersome to lob around for short trips and meetings / classes .
I'm looking for something that can at the very least cover these areas:
Media machine ( connected to a screen)
Gaming
Productivity (notes in class+ I work as an IT consultant so quick notes at work etc. In this case both have almost equal merit. pen vs keyboard )
Stable ( regular updates)
Connectivity ( ports and connections)
Good performance
HAS TO HAVE GOOD BATTERY ( average use wifi + bluetooth + browsing and note taking + maybe a short vid. here and there)
What l don't really care about
Screen rez.
Build materials ( ok, don't want it China cheap, but don't need super hyper space age Unobtanium)

To be honest that was the note 10.1 out of the box... It really doesn't need constant updates because it just works how its supposed too... I've never owned an Asus tablet but wouldn't constant updates mean it has constant problems that are trying to be fixed?
Gaming is fine, you can run the chainfire 3d app for tegra games, I run with sonic and that works fine and a few other games (NFS most wanted, GTA3, Dungeon Hunters 3 and Assassins creed 3) and have no problem...
Notes are easy to take using the pen, think back to high school with a folder, about the same size and not that heavy.
You can get an adaptor for usb connectivity - Just cant use an HDD as it requires too much power but a thumb drive works fine (mines 32gb), I have a 64gb sd card installed and I got the 32gb 3g version, forgot phone, no problem...
Performance is fine, there's no problem and 2gb of RAM makes it snappy - even when you fill it with stuff, I have around 4gb left internally and about 2gb on the 64gb sd card - no lag or stutter...
There is a HDMI adaptor you can get but haven't tried it. If you have a smart tv from 2012 then you can share your screen wirelessly and you can get the wireless adaptor that plugs into the tv set. For older versions of TV sets freeing up your usb port you can use the wireless adaptor that plugs into the tv instead of the MHL Adaptor.
Screen resolution is fine for what I need, it plays 720P movies very well and I don't care that I can't magnify the screen into infinity when viewing pics or text...
I have had no problem with build quality, mind you most people I know seem to put it into a folder for protection - don't use anything with magnets as it might affect the wacom digitiser.
The S-pen makes it easy to enter notes or data, its a shame that Samsung used a little known format for s-notes but there's ways around that too...

Can you tell me more about the wireless HDMI solution. One of the BIG issues I have with the note is the fact that it's lacking ports and there aren't any docking stations etc with both hdmi and usb . I have several really good LED TV's at home , but non have wireless DLNA or similar setups ( have to buy extra plugs etc) so a HDMI port would have been great...
Another issue is the fact that there seems to be an increase in TEGRA optimized games... somthing that's a major bummer since l actually like using the tab as a mini game console .

Is that 14h out of the box, or have you done some tinkering with it?
For the games run chainfire 3d... You can then run the tegra games with no problem...

but (just incase the surface rt is mentioned) I love android and I love media and games.
I really want the best and most future proof experience.
Now I currently have a note and I do like it, but I can get a nexus for a good price but would need to sell the note.
I like both touchwiz and vanilla android (as I had a nexus 4) and for me really, speed is important (one element I do like about iOS).
So.. which device would be best? Thanks.
p.s. I plan to pair either one with either the asus fonepad or nexus 7.
A big plus for me with the note is the micro sd slot. But if space is not an issue then probably the nexus for speed and resolution.
I traded a Nexus 4 for my Note 2 and feel the Nexus 4 doesn't even come close to the Note 2 at least for me.
If you plan on plugging in a keyboard you may want to look around the edge of your note very closely.

So the 2 big things for me were the not has memory expansion...
I have a 32gb internal note with 64gb sd card and am filling these up...
Because of the new additions to android and the greater resolution and capabilities of the new tablets, games are getting bigger and bigger. I downloaded a game the other day that required over 1gb of additional files, not to mention game saves... A small internal memory, 16gb, is no good as I filled that one too fast.
Now you might not get a lot of big games like that but I find a few apps fills things up pretty quick especially if you add in video files, music and text/doc/pdf files...
The 2nd for me was the ability to make and receive calls on my tablet, I have the N8000, as it can be a pain if you have to keep reaching for your phone. A bluetooth headset and my not allow me to make/receive calls and still find the data I need to share. This might not be a biggie for you but it's so easy not to have to hunt down my phone if I need to make a call.
I haven't found any problems with speed, I run a stock , rooted rom and it's blazingly fast as long as I don't fill up the internal memory too much.
The screen is fine, unless you are actually comparing screens all the time you won't see the difference as you can use the resolution its got fine. I watch shows and movies on mine all the time and no complaints here...
Love the speakers, the fact they are located on the front means the sound is directed to you, the user, not to everyone else in front of you.
Most apps work fine though I have found a few that require sideloading. There's also a few that are s-pen specific.
Interface is easy to use and if you don't like it find another like Apex or Nova...
S-pen is of course the be all and end all of why you would buy this over any other android tablet. It makes life SOOOO much easier, is fantastic when it comes to annotating PDF's and writing, makes drawing fantastic as the wacom digitiser recognises how hard or softly you press the pen to the tablet and gives a corresponding line width. Also a lot more precise than just the rubber stylus that you can get for the other tablets.
Overall I was happy with my purchase of the Note. It's a good work horse, Allows me to work or play, sometimes both at the same time, and hasn't let me down yet...
The only real complaint I have is why Samsung decided to not allow a USB HDD to run. You can plug a memory stick in with no problems but plug in a 2.5" portable HDD and you get the dreaded " A High Powered USB Has Been Detected" . Considering I have an Acer A501 that uses the 1Tb HDD with no problems this was a disappointment, but then again I have got the sd card and the USB key to use so not too much of a problem...
Can't say anything about the nexus as I don't have 1. Sorry, no help there but you might get some idea about the Note.

If you're going to be annotating more than just a little, I'd say you need the stylus to keep from going insane.. Otherwise, there isn't much I'd add for either side.
I have been a fan of the note series for some time now, ever since I got the note 2 phone. Then the note 10;1, and the note 8.0. Finally getting the cash lined up for a note 10.1 2014 and the 12.2 gets announced. So, now I am waiting for a couple days for the note pro to be available in the store to purchase.
My questions is about the choice between the Surface Pro 2 and the Note 12.2
I know that a great deal of things relies on individual needs and preferences, but I want to see where everyone sits.
If you have the chance, would you buy a Note 12.2 or a Surface Pro 2. Assuming same cost.
For me, I wouldn't mind going with a surface pro 2, but I would be tempted to stretch my funds and go with a 256gb model just to get the 8gb ram, then would nee a keyboard for it, pushing my budget pretty high. The note 12.2 is still a high cost device, but cheaper than the Surface Pro 2.
My viewpoint is looking like this:
Reasons for Surface Pro 2
Better CPU
Actual computer with full fledged programs
I can install and play my steam games (really mostly concerned with RTS games since I have my high end gaming laptop with me for higher end games.
Reasons for Note Pro 12.2
Higher Res and better display
Easier use of stylus for notes, drawing, and random functions,
Android and better "mobile" OS.
My big uses for either device would be for Stylus use, consuming content like netflix, and general connectivity for everything.

Surface Pro 2
I too strongly considered the Surface Pro, and the SP2, for my mobile computing needs. And as you said, it really is all about how you're going to use it. My issue is that it's really almost too much computer for a 10" tablet form factor, and usability suffers for this. In other words, I found it too bulky, heavy, and the screen was simply too small to be able to actually use that power to be productive.
When I'd sit down to type either at a desk or on the couch, it was rather difficult to do so for any length of time, while remaining comfortable. I'd just end up using it as a tablet only. In which case, it was just a little too heavy and bulky for extended use. And I wasn't even remotely using the power of the i-core CPU like this. Which seemed like a waste of such an expensive device.
So I thought I'd try games. I quickly found that it was either wasn't powerful enough for the games I wanted to play and/or the screen was too small.
Basically, I just couldn't find a good use case scenario where it made sense to spend that kind of money on the SP1 or SP2. For me, a larger Ultrabook or a more traditional tablet made more sense. Combining the two just didn't work.
Galaxy Note Pro 12.2
I of course haven't used the Note Pro tablet, but from what I've seen it looks like it might actually work for my needs. I know it's expensive "for an android tablet." But for a 12.2" portable computing device, it's almost a bargain. Well, maybe not a "bargain," and there isn't exactly any real competition for it; at least until others jump on board.
First, it's still relatively light weight for it's size. Find me another 12" device running around 1.6 lb, let alone at this price point. Add that to expected tablet-like battery life, portability, nice screen, new launcher, top-end tablet specs, and I think it looks very promising. Well, at least on paper. I'll have to judge that for myself when I get it. If the software and hardware fail, I probably will have to revisit the ultrabook idea. I just didn't want to spend that kind of money right now.
And the most important part is what I'm going to use it for. No, I'm not going to write a book on it. Not expecting to play BF4 or SC2. Don't need it to fit in a pocket. I've got a 5.7" phone, high-end multi-monitor workstation, and 15" notebook for those tasks. I just want something relatively portable to use when traveling, in a vehicle, in a plane, use at work, or even on the couch. If I'm leaving the house with it, just like a 10" tablet, it's going in a bag on it's own, or with my notebook and it's larger bag.
Then it needs to play videos, music, surf the web, and even handle the occasional high-end android game. I'll probably give some light on-the-go productivity a try on it. But like I said, a notebook with a real keyboard is always going to make far more sense.

First of all it depends on what do you do and what you need your tablet for . As i know its a personal reference to choose which fit your needs so am just going to share mine so it may help you figure out which suits you or which is a better deal.
I am a Junior architect and for powerful tasks i prefer using a desktop or a powerful laptop as thats where you can do real job on a real wide space but when it comes to a tablet category you choose something that can just give you the ability to edit those projects you did on your desktop or laptop and since tablets to us is a real multi-consumption device for work or multimedia and games etc and it would fit a lot of job holders like me as an architect or a student , artist, teacher etc so i would love to go with the Note PRO over the SP2 simply bc : bigger and better display , wide stylus integration for many apps , you can edit and restyle the android as you wish with so many apps and a full nice keyboard. also the way you feel about the device itself matters a lot and i believe going with the samsung would be a more better experience as being able to turn your tablet into a style that makes you feel good about using it . i didn't really like to go with some tech specs as it easily would be found online etc but here there is a really good article that may help you out from the very technical perspective on gizmag.com
Considering for me it was a choice between the note 12.2 and the SP2, and the note doesnt come out until tomorrow, my wife has already gone to best buy to get me a Surface Pro 2, at least to try out.
Considering that I can use bluestacks to play all the android games and apps I could on the note 12.2 (with some limitations), there is no applicational advantage to the note 12.2
The advantage to the 12.2 is the lower cost, better screen, and better integration of the s pen.
I feel like a traitor, though, going with the Surface. I love android and the note series is the king in my book, and the 12.2 is like the damn emperor of the note series, but I would be stupid and rather irrational not to at least try out the surface pro 2 if it can do everything to note can and more with only an extra 100 dollar price tag.
We shall see.

From various reviews, SP2 has a battery life of 6 hours while the GNP 12.2 has a battery life of 10 hours. I think I can do more with the Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 and more.

To be honest i couldn't decided between the two, at the moment i have got the surface pro 2 as my personal computer and i also got the galaxy note 10.1 2014 LTE edition, but i am now waiting for the note pro 12.2 LTE because i liked the bigger screen, i know it will cost nearly a thousand but to me its what i want as i want a mobile LTE tablet for when i travel around the country :good:
I just returned my SP2 last night and got the pro 12.2 at best buy. No regrets! I'm scratching my head for the last 15 days. A lot of problems on surface pro 2

I currently have both the SP2 and 12.2. You need a keyboard and mouse to really do anything productive on either device.
For any consumption, Youtube, movies, web, its the 12.2 FTW!
The only thing I haven't found that I can do on the 12.2 is Publisher and Powerpoint creation/presentation. I know there are android options there, but they are not up to full functionality when compared to MS office. The Hancom office that comes with the 12.2 is really good when it comes to excel and word though. Very impressed.
I ordered a bluetooth keyboard for the 12.2. I will be able to slip both the tablet and keyboard in the same bag and they won't be any thicker than the SP2.
The one advantage the SP2 has over the 12.2 is multi-monitor support. I am running three monitors and the SP2 at my office. Talk about productivity. There is no lag. Android can't do that yet. I am an android fanboy, but MS still has this productivity nailed.
My 2 cents. As you said, use case dictates your answer. I can't say I would be completely happy with only one of these devices. There is not yet "one device to rule them all."
