Wasn't really sure where to put this, since there isn't a forum for this device but thought people here might be interested?
First impressions are incredibly favourable.
It feels absolutely incredible in the hand with how slim it is, and the build materials are stellar - a refreshing change from Samsung's usual gear (every now and again they show that they really can make extremely classy looking and feeling devices, only wish they did that more often!). The screen is amazing, but I only realised how good it is when I had it next to my Transformer Prime - I thought the Prime's screen was stellar (best on a tablet yet I thought) but the 7.7 makes it look thoroughly average.
It's HC 3.2 with TW, and runs pretty well with just the occasional tiny micro-hitch here and there (the Prime's Tegra 3 is the only device I've had so far that could drive HC well enough to call 'buttery'). I noted with interest that there is no lag typing in the browser with a software keyboard, must be something Samsung have done to it because even the Prime had attrocious lag in HC in browser typing...
Need to get some stupid proprietary connectors tomorrow and can then do usual connectivity test and video...
Questions?
where'd you get it? is it GSM? does it have voice calling feature enabled? is the SAMOLED+ as good as its hyped up to be. How much did it cost?

Got it from Mobicity, mine isn't the 3G one, but it is available (and by the looks of it calling should be possible for those inclined!).
The SAMOLED+ is pretty stunning. Only a couple of days ago I was saying how the Transformer Prime has the best screen on a tablet but side-by-side the 7.7 blows it away (I think in Super-IPS mode the Prime will have a significant advantage for outdoors usability though).
Price was in the order of $750NZD from memory, as always with a device at release there is a premium to be paid.
very nice. yeah here's the link for 3g version described aas full voice calling ability..
http://www.mobicity.com.au/samsung-galaxy-tab-7-7-16gb-3g.html
I think Im all set with my 7.0+ until a nice quad core 7" with voice comes along with some beefed up specs.

Yep, if you're happy with that screen size I see no reason not to wait and pick up the ASUS one, amazing price point on that!
Yep.. the only thing they didn't do well is... price Almost twice as much as for the 7+ ?!? For a bumped screen and CPU clock? Come on Samsung, you can do better!
For that price I would expect it to be twice as fast and have at least HDMI out built it...

Have we gotten a confirmation for pricing in the US yet? Pricing this above $479 is a mistake.

Kiwi's lose out on price; in Australia you can pick the wifi version up for about $550. I reckon I've seen it on the grey market for about $500.

I got the 3G 7.7 a couple of days ago. I'm in the US and ordered it from negrielectronics.com for about US$650 plus shipping. They shipped it on Tuesday and I got it on Thursday - how convenient that we had a winter storm in Chicago and we got sent home from work, so I could be home to receive it :-D The model I have is the silver-backed one, and looks like it came from Hong Kong.
I took it to an AT&T store today to activate it on a month-to-month data plan. The staff were drooling over it! FYI for anyone else doing the same thing, they had to fake the IMEI in their system to get it to come up with the correct data plan, as their system did not recognise my Tab's IMEI, with it not being an AT&T device. They ended up using the IMEI of one of the HSDPA (*not* LTE) tablets they had in the store. Also, after it was all activated, I had to go into the APN settings and add a new APN titled "broadband" (no username/password) for data to actually work.
I love this Tab - the hardware is spectacular, and the screen is out of this world! My only dilemma is what to do about my Tab 7plus, which I've had for about a month. I'm still within return period for that, but there's something about the 7plus where, for all the tech whizzbangery of the 7.7, the 7plus just feels that little bit more personal.... It might just be that because the 7plus has the rougher back, it's a bit easier to hold one-handed. The 7.7 is a bit slippy.
About ready to order a 7.7 myself from negri...but wifi only. Just worried about U.S. Developed roms being compatible down the road when the US version launches. Does your IR blaster work?

Hello guys.
I also got a 7.7 3g a couple days ago and registered here to share some impressions and questions. Coming from a galaxy s plus and iPad, this is my first experience with honeycomb.
The hardware is great, as has been said many times. The tablet is gorgeous, a little heavier than it's svelte looks may suggest and feels solid, gets barely warm, a pleasure to hold.
The size is ideal for web browsing on the move, pages in landscape are generally easy to read without need of zooming and panning around. I also find amoled screens to strain eyes a little less than lcd thanks to the potentially darker colors.
Battery life is ok, not incredible. I got over 8 hours of random use with wifi and auto screen luminosity.
The software is a different story.
The preloaded Swype keyboard is bugged. On large documents, double tapping a word to select it causes the editor to scroll to the top and select a random block from the first lines. The frequency of this happening seems correlated with the dimension of the document - almost always on the 100Kb file I'm working with now, but you don't need to get nearly as large.
I verified the bug with three different editors, jota, 920, and the built in note app. It's less apparent on the latter as it only handles short notes, but still happens constantly on specific words.
It's especially annoying because the keyboard is otherwise excellent, imo more responsive to fast swipes and accurate in text prediction than the commercial SlideIT alternative, it even has cursor and edit keys accessible with a couple taps.
Other issues I imagine belong to honeycomb and well known here, but were a surprise to me, used to a fine gingerbread experience.
The interface suffers from significant hiccups. Apps can't write on the micro SD, thought as consolation Samsung's preloaded file manager allows to copy data to it.
Multitasking is unreliable for serious work as background apps get randomly closed and lose data. Registering to this forum I left Dolphin browser to open the verification email, went back to find all tabs gone. The same browser on a phone with half the ram rarely if ever had the issue.
App crashes have also been much more common, included one with the pre installed pen memo app, few with the settings manager, more with Dolphin.
I'll cut it before this becomes a rant on the OS. I'm interested in knowing if others can reproduce the keyboard problem, to make sure it's not my device to be defective.
Bottom line, ICS can't come soon enough and hopefully will address issues. This tablet needs and deserves better than the stuff it's running now.
Btw, I got it from Negri too, excellent service. There is no IR gun, it may be specific to other models or just have been removed from the final specs.
thank u for that in depth review!

I find swipe-type keyboards rather useless on tablets because of the size of the device, and even though this one is smaller I still never want to use them here either.
Try Swiftkey Tablet X or Thumb Keyboard, much better for me (I would think the majority of Android tablet owners are using one of these two keyboards).

Dolphin seems to have issues at the moment, I'm seeing reports like that across multiple device forums, try Opera Mobile instead?
I've not had any problems with app crashes myself.
Anyone tried playing YouTube videos in a browser in Galaxy Tab 7.7? I've tried stock browser and Dolphin Browser, but neither seems to be able to play YouTube videos. (I was able to do so when I was using Galaxy S II without the YouTube app.) The latest version of Adobe Flash Player is installed. Any ideas?

congrats. I would have never brought this into my local AT&T store, they would have tried to make sure it never gets used on their network, and would have threatened me to cancel my unlimited data plan (grandfathered). you're a brave man. they were very nice to help you.
I might actually want the 7.7, if it had a thin/slim bezel.

Hi all,
Maybe this is useful for some folks. I loved my original Galaxy Tab and have now upgrade to the Plus. For info, I'm using the devices in Asia (Malaysia, Singapore, China, Vietnam) mostly. The version I have is a 3G with calls enabled.
I use the Tab as my primary mobile phone. It is therefore essential that it fits into the back pocket of my jeans or pocket of my suit pants. I have paired it with a VoyagerPro+ Headset and this works perfectly for calls, audio (mono of course) and Skype. I'd say I'm a heavy user with 2-3 hours of calls a day and a fair bit of web surfing, sms and emailing.
What I loved about the Original:
Contrary to many of the reviews, I really enjoyed the fact that this was an oversized phone, not a pint sized tablet. I never felt there was anything wrong with Gingerbread as an OS on a screen of this size, in fact I really liked the experience. Icons were big, keyboards very useable particularly in Portrait and the whole thing had a solid, Tonka like feel to it. It was also really tough, having dropped it countless times, never without a problem. Another handy feature was the sim card slot; very easy to access as I often swap sims.
What I noticed immediately with the Plus:
Clearly this is a small tablet. You tend to hold it in landscape much more often. The resolution of the screen is the same, but all the icons and toggles are much smaller. This makes quick operation (e.g. whilst walking) quite difficult. If placed on a desk, this is not so much of an issue. The learning curve in moving to Honeycomb is quite steep and (personal matter of taste) the transition from home screen to home screen is a bit kitchy. The tablet feels thinner (though it's not...except at the edges)
What I am beginning to like with the Plus:
Though the operation of the device is more "delicate", i.e. more care needs to be taken about where your fingers tap, there are quite a few cool features to be had in Honeycomb. The widgets are superb. Some of the tablet tailored apps are also great, particularly Youtube notwithstanding that rotation of the screen immediately reloads the video (arrrghh!!!). It feels fast, and after a week I'm already noticing that the battery time is noticeably better. In some of the blogs, the Samsung apps which float above open apps have not really impressed the reviewers, but I have found that the dialer and the calculator are particularly useful, say if you're browsing a site and want to dial or check something.
What I miss about the Original Tab:
I hope that over time I'll have the same trust in the sturdiness of the Plus. Going back to the Original Tab, I feel the same sense as when I first bought it, namely that everything on the screen looked huge. It really feels like you were playing with Lego and now you're playing with Duplo . One of my favorite apps (smart keyboard pro) doesn't play nicely with Honeycomb and so I have lost my multilingual inputs until I find a replacement.
Wrap-up:
It's a week in with the Tab Plus. I had the original for a year. Already, I know I would not want to go back to the original mostly because I enjoy the Honeycomb features, the speed and the longer battery life. I'm still not as fast at typing on the Plus, but hopefully this will improve over time.
For anyone looking to upgrade from the original, be aware that it is may not be the quantum leap you experienced when you first got the Galaxy Tab, but provided you can get used to the smaller icons & toggles it's a good upgrade.
Happy to take questions if anyone's interested.
Cheers,
Marc

You might consider a third party "launcher" app (such as ADW, Go Launcher, etc) that can make your home screen and launcher feel more like gingerbread. Otherwise, happy you are enjoying your tab

I agree that it definitely got the pint sized tablet treatment, which is somewhat of a shame given the choice between cramped tablet or luxuriously roomy phone. It has a nice solid feel though, and I was relieved to see with the latest firmware update the Market app no longer forces a nearly useless landscape mode.
I've made icons even smaller than stock with ADWlauncher EX and locked the tablet to landscape mode. I found the stock setup way too huge and "blown up phone"-like than what I want.
My WiFi only 7+ maybe feels a bit more unstable than the 7? Netflix freezes every once in awhile, which absolutely never happened on the 7. Then again the 7 couldn't even stream half the video that's out there, so I'm not complaining.
I actually like the look and feel of the smaller icons. Yes, a bit harder to navigate but esthetically it just feels better to me.
The only thing I really miss from the original Tab is my high res embedded album art. All of the music players I've used are stretching the thumbnails rather than finding the embedded file. I'm assuming this is a Froyo vs. Honeycomb thing?
Speaking as an old school, analog geeky tech guy who was dragged kicking and screaming into the digital age, I can honestly now say I don't know how I lived my life without a Tab 7+ in my back pocket.
rtfm, how do you find yourself spending your time on the 7+? What do you use it for? When do you use it instead of a phone?

We're still WiFi only out here in the boondocks of northern New England. No 4G and barely any 3G in the area. So the Tab for me is mostly a media consumer. I've tried to use it at work as a notepad, document viewer but it's a bit cumbersome to get everything in order for that big meeting you're going to have. But for looking at, listening to or reading stuff like I say how did I live without it?
Being an old shortwave/ham radio geek, the ability to lay in bed and stream radio stations from anywhere in the world is still a revelation to me.
I've purchased my first 2 Kindle ebooks from Amazon and read them on the Tab. I still have mixed feelings about "owning" e vs. "real" books on the living room shelves but I looked forward every night to reading a book on the Tab.
The 7+ does video where the 7 couldn't. Netflix just works (mostly).
I threw away my old big-red-LED AM/FM alarm clock and i use the alarm in the tunein Radio app to wake up every morning.
If you download the maps that you need before you go on a trip Google Maps is your GPS all set for your vehicle.
Music. I'm still waiting for the proper player to get the album art right, but it's got all my music on it.
Online news. Every morning with a cup of coffee. Read the headlines and a few stories. From just about anywhere in the world. Still for free. Simply amazing.
All of this from a little box that fits in your back pocket.
Hi, same here. I've been using Original Galaxy Tab for quite some time, and I've bought myself a 7+ last two weeks. For me, it is indeed an upgrade version of the original one, but it's not too far away. It has better speed, but it is not as fast as SII. I used SII last month and I thought they would be more or less the same in term of performance as they share the same processor. Is it related to Honeycomb? Anyway, I love the Honeycomb instead of Gingerbread on the original Galaxy Tab. Honeycomb's widget and notification bar are quite useful and eye-candy.
What I miss on the 7+ is the feeling of toughness and durability. The original Galaxy Tab feels solid and tough. Gorilla glass, and the black colour border makes the difference. On 7+, the silver border looks fragile, I accidentally scratch it last week and the paint drop is obvious at that spot. =(
One more thing, when I put it in my pocket, (yes it's my primary phone), I always mispress the power button and volume rocker. Maybe its because this time, the edge is thinner and sharper.
This will b my first tablet. So my question is the design of the plus exactly like the original because im trying to find cases and things and there's not much out there for the tab plus just wondering mine will b here Monday or sooner so just wondering

I had both the Wifi and 3G versions of the 7+. The Wifi version was defintiely more unstable. I already sold it. It kept having sleep of deaths.
the 3G version for some reason is rock solid.
Another thing is that I can watch Flash video on the 3G version. For some reason, the Wifi version is more finnicky playing online streaming video. I don't understand it. I tried the same sites, but got different results.
However... the 3G version for some reasons takes a hell of a long time to charge. I was charging it at 4 in the afternoon and it's now 8:20pm and in four hours or so I only got up to about 60% charge. What the hell?!

My Tab + charges in 3 hours and it was always full battery.
First tablet ever for me, bought it for the bat life and size. Needed something bigger than the 4.8 inch Viliv N5 or old Sony UX 280p. Seems my vision is getting worse with age lol, anyhows i have found the device to be very gratifying. Been an old pda user for years, so it feels like a larger smoother pda for me. Check news, facebook, watch vids and such on it. Only complaint is not neccisarily its fault (gameloft games dont run on it). Or at least the ones i playon my G2.

Let me update this 2 months later. One firmware update and a couple of Netflix upgrades have come and gone. The video playback is rock solid and whatever slight stability issues I noticed in the beginning are not bothering now. I'm still annoyed by the album art thumbnail issue. But as far as I'm concerned the 7+ is top of the line.
And if I've got what I need right now, why do I need ICS?
My Galaxy Tab "died" over the weekend and since I need a Tab I replaced it on Monday with the Plus.
Overall I'm liking the Plus but some thing are bugging me. The fonts and widgets seem smaller, though the screen's are the same resolution. Can't seem to make home screens I'm happy with
On the plus side the P6200 is so much faster! Also the screen seems much more vibrant.
Now if I could only get my screens sifted I'd be a happy camper.

GPRS/EDGE Class details
This is my first post in this forum. I am planning to finalise on Galaxy Tab plus 7.0 (GT-P6200). The Samsung India website doesn't provide exact information about the Product.
Which data class the GT-P6200 belongs> Is it Class 10 or Class 12 or Class 33?
The Exynos chipset used in GT-P6200 is same as GT-P6800?
Is the CPU Overclocked in GT-P6800?
The Tablet GT-P6200 sold in India comes with IR peer and from which country dose the company imports the Tablet (China, Korea or Vietnam)?

News on the planned release of the Asus Padfone. As a Transformer Prime owner, I am already drooling at the prospect of getting one of these in the future. One device that has all areas covered? Didn't think it would take this long!
Sorry if there are already posts about this, this is just the latest stuff I have seen.
Yes this look awesome and I believe the phones pretty good too.

I've been doing searches every week for any new info, so this is a pretty fun day for me. Unless I'm reading wrong, I see T-Mobile frequencies on this phone - so unless the price is off the charts I can easily see buying one off contract.
The stylus idea (a pen/headset combo) is an interesting idea, since an early question was what do you do when you get a call when the fone is in the tablet. Speakerphone? Bluetooth headset? Now you have this in a pinch. Only thing I haven't seen in video - does the pen slide into the tablet when not in use?
Specs are not quite as high as I originally hoped for, but I think good enough. Battery charging (tablet & keyboard charge the phone) is awesome! If it (as it looks) can use my original Transformer keyboard, even better.
About the only other expected issue will be weight. If it's at all close to the original Transformer weight (with phone in), I'll be fine.
Oh - video also looks like you can somehow have 2 home screen layouts. Would like to see a sample of a screen with some widgets on it on the fone, then docked to see what it looks like on the tablet.
..and a release date Saw April mentioned a few places.
The only thing i see wrong is that the screen (on the phone?) is not 720P and that if you lose or break your phone you are SOL
i really like the concept of this as well.
i wonder if it will be popular enough to get some awesome custom roms
I love this combo. I might have to drop the $$$ for this outright. I hope other manufacturers get on the bang wagon as well!
Sent from the best mobile device ever --Samsung Galaxy Note
I really like this concept and hopefully it won't be too expensive!
One concern I got though: Would it be very difficult to bring roms to this device, considering it would have to support both mobile and tablet mode?

If you look at the "Design" button on the Asus PadFone Landing Page (asus[dot]com/Mobile/PadFone/), they talk about the sleeve that sounds like it'll come with the PadFone that has a brand tag that doubles as a stylus holder (if you've used the Wacom Bamboo Tablet, I'd imagine it's something similar to the red tag on the side of that). The site also mentions that the tablet will buzz to let you know if you're leaving your stylus behind. That sound like such a great and simple solution to people always worrying about losing their stylus...es... styli... Never had to pluralize that before.
Thanks for the link - I hadn't checked the official site in quite a while. Would be funny to have a popup if you left the stylus behind with some sort of Microsoft-Paper-Clip like animation showing a sad stylus on the screen
Looking over the bands & trying to google answers, but looking at what they show:
3G :
WCDMA :
900/2100
2G :
EDGE/GPRS/GSM : 850/900/1800/1900
Doesn't that make it good for both AT&T and T-Mobile?
it says the display is 4.3
what about the softkeys? are they withIN the 4,3 or is it 4,3 + softkeys???
Wow, this seems sort of innovative but... I don't know.. sort of odd lol
Definitely looking forward to maybe seeing more of it though as I am definitely interested in this.
I like the concept. I'm just not so keen on carrying a tablet shell. Or about the Tegra 3.
Throw in a keyboard dock then it's more pleasing.

The different way using the tablet and phone. Cool
The Tegra 3 is a very good chip, we have to remember that optimisation is only going to get better for it and Nvidia aren't a company that does things by half. I'm pretty sure they know just how lucrative the mobile market is, and with Windows 8 coming want to get the ball rolling fast.
As for carrying around the tablet, I don't see it as much of a problem, you don't have to carry it all the time, I think that's the whole point with it tbh. Would love to see some prices though, and definitely see a some tests on the phone itself.
4.3" is my favourite size for a screen, but with soft buttons on top of that it might seem a tiny bit cramped, I'm just glad its not some note worthy 4.7" behemoth!

That's as may be, but the Padfone has a dual-core Snapdragon S4. Don't worry, in many use cases it is faster than Tegra 3 and we do not know about battery life of either with just a small smartphone battery.

That confuses me a bit - the Galaxy Nexus has 4.65" and soft keys - giving it around 4.3" usable area in most situations, and you call that a behemoth? But at 4.3" with probably around 4" usable area in most situations you call it cramped? What would be the ideal size then? Or do you just hate soft keys? I like them.
This combo has certainly peaked my interest.. looking to see it in the flesh firstly though

It will work on AT&T and T-Mobile on 2G.
For 3G, it doesn't have T-Mobile or AT&T's 3G bands. Therefore, you will be stuck to EDGE speeds.
It is only logical to present the european version of the device with european frequencies at a european show! For the US, there will surely be carrier specific variants, maybe a bit later.
do you guys think there will be enoiugh iinterest to get some of XDA's awesome developers to develop custom ROMS for this phone ?
i am really interested in this as well since i have no tablet. But since i wanna use the phone without the station as well, i really need some more tests showing just the power/useage of the phone itself.

Almost certainly, depending on price this could be a very popular device even if it is dual core.

in a price of 300$ it has no other competitors...
Will it get ICS ? (Custom ROMS,OR OFW..)
Thanks.
I have been reading that samsung is not going to update this with ics because they are releasing another 7 inch tablet with ics. Honestly it's just rumors and speculation, but I would say no. I got mine the other day for 280 bucks shipped. For that price, it's good enough for me. Beware though, the thing is full of bugs.

May you give an example
The ui is really laggy, none of the input boxes in the web browser work as expected, the remote control feature (for me at least) never worked once, netflix does not respond correctly. When netflix does work, the screen will occasionally flicker. This is all I have noticed in the few days I have had it. Also, the screen has really bad resolution.

Everything works fine for me. On occasion it needs to be reset by holding the power button because it won't wake up (look at the "sleep of death" thread)
But the browser, netflix, and remote all work fine for me.
It is slated to get ICS. It will probably be delayed into 4th quarter this year though.

Go and take a look for yourself at your local BestBuy, etc... IMO. This is by far the best 7' tab out there. No problems to speak of for me.
not sure how buggy it is for other people...
anyways.
the stock launch is horrible. never mattered to me because i always install another launcher on all my android devices.
the stock browser is ok. its annoying that the brightness always dims. i installed the browser from asus. its faster and doesnt do that annoying dimming. it also has the dark honeycomb theme instead of the light theme that comes with the tab.
I live offshore so i cant go to best buy

I have never had any of these issues with this device before or after the update. The screen resolution is not that bad IMO, sure it could be better but hey you could always buy and over priced, mediocre spec, limited OS apple product with a nice screen.
Sure development on this device is slow at this point, but thats what you get with a device that not many top devs are drawn too. garyd9 seems like an awesome dev but like he said, it's really upto samsung to release ICS or better source code to get things going.
I love this device for the size and hardware, I think the IR is a nice touch as long as app development get more involved.
Just always keep in mind that Samsung is in the business of mass producing a bunch of devices and making money. Customers service and support is an after thought.

i would get the g-tab 7.7 on the 10.1 3g lil more costly but better all-round
I actually got it on amazon from electronics expo, the price varies greatly depending on the time of day. As soon as I added it to my cart the next one was 340 dollars. Maybe it goes to 340 and the price goes down for every one they sell until it hits rock bottom and then goes back up to 340. I need to check my software version, but the first thing I did when I booted it up was check for software updates in the settings menu. I dont have it on me, I am at work, and it is at home next to my bed. I will check later on how to update software.
I am up to date on my firmware already.
It will get ics its been said many times.
Just don't know when.

Hi,
Thanks for contacting Peel and a big thanks in advanced for your patience pertaining to this Galaxy Tablet issue. At this time, there have been issues relating to the way the tablet fires off the IR codes, this IR driver fix is part of Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus ICS (Ice Cream Sandwich) OS update. I wish there was a timeline on when Samsung will release this update but unfortunately there is not, this issue is in Samsung's hands. Again, we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you, we want you up and running with Peel as much as you do. We will let you know as soon as this update becomes available.
Thanks for your interest in Peel,
Thaddeus

I truly hope that they just rushed out GB to get the product to market to give them more time to work on a fully stable ics build.. Probably just wishful thinking though

As a person who did his research, I was deciding upon the Amazon Kindle Fire and GT 7+, I decided with the Galaxy Tab and I believe it was the right decision. Great design, super thin and light, it's powerful enough for what I do. I'm a student and power user. I do a lot of reading, browsing and work email from this tablet.
Pros:
Still very customizable, even with most of its lock downs. Extremely easy to root.
Very powerful without the TouchWiz. Using a 2nd launcher like Launcher Pro or ADW Launcher EX works without issues.
Screen may not be SUPERAMOLED, and its a lower resolution like 1024 600 then other tablets, the colors and screen quality is exceptional.
Web browsers on this is super fluid and flash works as fluid as a desktop.
Great battery. I've managed to get 1.5 - 2 days use out of it without charge. That is with web browsing, music listening, some movies or youtube, book reading.
Great form factor. It's super thin, so it's easy to hold and pocket. I have a folio case for it, and it still fits in my pocket with minimal thickness.
Works great with google voice. I say this because of the ear piece built into the surface. If you get some voicemail, and you're working on your tablet, you can listen to your voicemail in private without having to pull out the headphones or making the volume super low. Which brings me to my next part.
Great sound! It's loud enough for me to listen to music and through the headphones is clear and crisp (using my pair of workout sony headphones - amazing how a $20 pair of headphones sounds just as good as Beats by Dre )
Camera is satisfactory. I don't usually use mobile phone cameras, but this one is okay for my purpose. I take pictures of ad designs and use Skitch to make markup notes on the image.
Cons:
Samsung Kies - You're [almost] required to use Kies to transfer files to and from the device, which leads me to my next item...
Locked down storage - Unlike common android devices, you cannot mount the storage or sdcard. Even using a 3rd party file manager will not let you manage the files.
Proprietary USB cable - 30pin to usb, not standard. Nuff said...
terrible flashing methods - I accidentally bricked my last GT7+, and it was my fault, but if I bricked it, I would have to send it to Samsung for "repair". Unlike other companies, and I'll use Apple as a good example, you can't download the official firmware for your device and reflash your tablet.
So in the end, the Pro's outweigh the cons, and I've found some easy workarounds without having to use Kies. I mean I use Kies just to backup (I guess), but for normal file management, I use File Expert. It turns your tablet into a FTP server or you can log into your tablet's file system via a browser and do some manual file management with upload and downloads. Unfortunately, it won't let you work in the SDCard, but it's better then nothing. Then I use DoubleTwist to manage my music with Air Sync. Excellent piece of software!
Anyway, it's a great tablet, and I'm sure ICS will make it better too. Samsung said its one of the tablets to get ICS, it's just a matter of time when. Even without ICS, it works well.
So at my local store there is a deal on this thing, buy now, pay 6months later.
Is it worth buying? I've looked at the reviews and they are all pretty good, I like the touchwize element and the look of the Samsung customised apps on it.
I recently bricked my Sony Tablet S, so looking for something a little different until it's fixed!
Any ideas please?
Well overall, this is a pretty solid tablet. Best in class IMO.
But, that being said, it still has its quirks.
Not to mention no ICS (and we all question whether we'll get it or not)
Also, if u decide to get it, don't expect any AOSP (CM, AOKP, MIUI) for some time. Samsung isn't cooperating with us by withholding some important bits of source that we need.

Thanks for the feedback, for me it's not about the ROM's, but the usage. Is it stable, fast, pretty lag free?
I can get it, use it under a 15day money back guarentee.
It's a great tablet. I've had an iPad, a Samsung Galaxy Tab (original 3G 7 inch) a Galaxy Tab 10.1 and now this, and this is the first one I have been completely happy with.
The hardware is similar to the SGS2, which means its smooth and fast, with sufficient battery life for all the travelling I do. The SGT10.1 had the rather poor Tegra2 chipset which I found quite disappointing, whereas the Xynos in the SGT7+ is fast and stable. The fact that it has a microSD slot is very important to me (The SGT10.1 lacked one and therefore if you got a 16GB one, you were stuck with about 13GB of storage).
At the moment it lacks ICS, but having been using ICS on my Galaxy Nexus for a couple of months, I can live with Honeycomb for now.
I'll be sticking with my SGT7+ for a while I think!
I'm happy with mine overall, but it does have a few issues that may be common to all firmware versions:
1. Bluetooth keyboard/mouse lag has been reported.
2. Analog audio output volume can be low/problematic (I always use a bt headset).
3. I've noticed network lag on every wifi AP I've connected to: 20-150ms fluctuating ping latency to LAN and Internet hosts. Other devices on my LAN, including my old Nook Color, get the expected sub-10ms pings to each other.

I enjoy this tablet.
I bought this for the 7" form factor. I think it works great. I use it for taking notes, or outlining ideas, along with lots of reading. Web, E-Book, work document review whatever... it works just fine. I also like it for a "second Screen" for podcasts while I'm browsing on my desktop PC.
Cons for me are it seems to warm up on the left side with heavy wifi use, and that is mildly annoying, but tolerable. Touch Wiz seemed to talk up a bunch of RAM and crash on me, I replaced it with Go Launcher HD and haven't had a problem since. I just wish I could ditch it completely.
As far as I can tell at this moment, there isn't a another 7" tablet with the same battery life, feature set, and price point. Ultimately that is why I picked one up.
So TouchWiz isn't good on it?
It was one of the reasons why I'd buy it...

TouchWiz is fine on mine and on the other units I purchased for floor-use at the plant.
I have had nearly zero issues out of my 7+. Former iPad, Xoom, and Kindle Fire owner here, and the 7+ is easily the best tablet I have owned, TouchWiz included.
Very Good Product, but...
Flyer:
I have had my SGT 7 plus for about a month, and it is my favorite of our five tablets, which include a Nook Color, a Xoom and 2 Transformer 102s; all of which have ICS. It works very smoothly and has all the power I need. However I do not do intensive gaming.
The screen image is bright and clear, and aside of a few force closures, most likely caused by apps mis-behaving, I have had no problems with the stock Honeycomb OS.
Regarding the negative comments about TouchWiz, I feel it has some nice features, but I do not feel the hidden app tray on the bottom of the screen is as handy as it would be if the apps were selectable (if they are I have not figured how).
In response to the comment about TouchWiz consuming a lot of power, I personally have not found that to be the case. To me it just seems to be a feature that is somewhat unobtrusively there if you want to use it (although I would be the first to admit I probably am not familiar with all the features).
Regarding power use in general, compared to my other tablets, my SGT 7 plus is very good. In fact, if I just close the screen, it barely sips power. Of course I am sure that is, in part, because of the way I have it set up.
There are a few things that I wish were different; such as the lack of a stand alone USB connector, and the use of a proprietary charge/usb connector. But to me that is really nitpicking in the overall scheme of things.
The only serious concern I have is the impact the soon to come out SGT 2 7" will have on our getting ICS in a timely manner. There is no doubt in my mind the SGT 7 plus is a better tablet, and an excellent value when bought at the $299 or less sales price even with the Honeycomb OS.
However, it does not have ICS, and presently there is no concrete information as to when/if Samsung will make it available; and, in my opinion, ICS is a much better O.S, so availability of ICS for the SGT 7 plus is a very important consideration in deciding which tablet to buy.
In my opinion, holding prospective and recent customers in limbo in this manner, as Samsung is presently doing, is a terrible way for a company to do business. There is no doubt in my mind the SGT 7 plus is a better built tablet, with more features than the SGT 2 7", but if the SGT 7 plus does not receive the ICS it will be limited in utilization of the new software being developed, and therefore may be basically obsolete within a matter of a couple of months.
Personally, although I love mine, if considering purchasing today, I would wait another month or so to see how this scenario (ICS update) plays out.
Hope this is of help to you!
Cbill
For what its worth, Samsung HAS confirmed that we will get the update. Full stop. This was in an officially released press release, which can be found on Samsung Mobile's facebook wall.
Time frame, however, was never officially released except for the fact that the Note and the S2 would get the update first. This, to me, points to no ICS update until the Note gets its update.
Just my two cents on the ICS issue, because I keep seeing people acting like Samsung hasn't said any thing about our tablet, and they have.
Robyr:
Obviously you are not at a decision point of purchasing (or returning a recently purchased) SGT 7 plus.
O.K., lets say you are right when you opine Samsung will release ICS for the 7+. The next question is when?. Two week , two months, six months? Every week new 7" tabs, with ICS installed, and with new and improved features, are coming on the market. Given these circumstances, how long is an appropriate time to wait for a current operating system upgrade for your newly purchased (and only recently released to the market) Tablet.
I love my 7+, but I also want the smoothness, and increased versitility that ICS brings. I have it on my Transformer 102 wifi, and my Xoom wifi(contrary to what an earlier poster stated) and I even have it on my poor little ole Nook Color (CM9), and I do not feel those of us owning Tab 7+ 's, not tied to a carrier should have to wait any longer without some official indication of timing schedule from Samsung.
Let's not lose sight of the fact that the ICS operating system has been available for a considerable amount of time, and, I suspect, most, if not all of the 7 plus's that have been sold in this country were purchased in anticipation of upgrade to ICS in the" not-to-distant future" from their purchase date I know that certainly was the case with me. Instead of providing that upgrade in a timely manner, it appears Samsung chose to undercut their own customers by bringing to market a low cost, downgraded Tab 7, using ICS as a sales feature, while leaving their 7 plus customers out in the cold.
I have two days left to decide whether I will keep my 7 plus. It is not an easy decision. However, whichever way I decide, in the future I will always be very cautious about purchasing samsung phones or tablets.
Cbill
Decided to buy it, will be here tomorrow and can't wait!
All the other manufacturers are just as bad, if not worse than Samsung when it comes to upgrades of IS, and it has been a 'feature' of the phone market for as long a there have been phones capable of being upgraded.
The way I look at it is that the tablet still works exactly the same way now as it did when I bought it, irrespective of ICS's prevalence on other tablets. Sure it's nice to get a new OS, and I won't complain if ICS is released in a timely matter, but if honeycomb sucked that badly then it would have been a poor purchase in the first place.
But as for the OP, go enjoy your new tablet, and remember to feel sorry for the chumps with aching arms from holding their heavy iPads up all day =)

Thanks guy, arrived yesterday and what a fantastic device. Alot better than the Son Table S, although I paid £270 for mine and noticed there was no IR?
No IR
There must be some variation in the models. I bought mine in the US in Feb from Best Buy for about £250, and it came with IR, and a cool piece of IR software for controlling TVs, DVD players, etc.
However, it appears Samsung have not changed model numbers despite the hardware change.
Thanks for the response.

Its true that the plastic creaks slightly (for me anyways), and that it scratches easily for sure. Its true the camera isnt the best, though its not bad by any means. Honestly, the selling points here are the processor and the s-pen, and for me, thats worth it 10 times over. The spen is the best stylus solution that im aware of for any tablet. The processor is insanely fast. I have not had a single complaint about it yet. Also, the IR port is a nice extra

Honestly it depends what your looking for in a tablet. I got this because I wanted the spen and a fast processor. I love to doodle and this was perfect for it . I also plan to use this for notes when I start my classes. As for the camera, I never saw the point to have a back facing camera on a tablet; its super awkward to take pictures with it.

i never had nfc... multiscreen is nice and ive even found legitimate use in it when doing problems from the book (open in Polaris office) on S-note, side by side. Its nice but its not a reason to buy this tablet. Maybe it will be witn the jellybean update. The galaxy s camera is probably better, but again: Its a freaking 10 inch tablet rofl.. are you planning on doing photoshoots with this 10inch wall between the models and yourself?
You can get a bluetooth keyboard but as far as i know, samsung never went through making the keyboard dock they were planning to. You can just buy the galaxy tab 10.1" one and sand off the sides a bit.. i remember reading aboout that a few days ago (google it).
The IR port gives this thing the ability to be a universal remote control. Thats it.
Multiscreen can only do Polaris office, browser, snote, video player, gallery and Samsung's email client. Maybe JB will change that.
Go test it out at your local best buy so you know what youre getting yourself into.

As others have said: it depends what you want to do with it.
I want to use my tablet in a productive way. I write notes, use it with pdfs and annotating them and learning languages (flash cards).
I am a hobby photographer and enjoy doing sorting, selecting and light editing on the tablet instead of the desktop PC. I plan to experiment with more heavy stylus editing in the future.
Camera on a tablet is a non-issue for me. As far as i'm concerned a tablet could come with only a front-facing camera for skype.
For my taste all phone and tablet cameras are junk and only useful for quick snapshots. That's why I don't need a tablet cam.
Scratching is a non-issue for me as well. I treat my stuff way more delicately than other people apparently.
Squeaking? When i lay on my back and hold the Note with one hand above my face the torquing will give a extremely mild squeak from the bezel area. Nothing worrying.
Everything runs smooth as butter.
Battery is amazing.
The big points for the Note are the stylus and the multiscreen functionality and the mini apps. For me who uses it mostly productively it is amazing. I suppose others who are more into entertainment want more; I am quite satisfied.
I guess there are better choices for purely entertainment, passive purposes.
Btw: afaik gadgets are more expensive in korea. Sometimes they have models not available anywhere else though (not the case with note 10.1 though afaik)

Interesting i would of expected a Samsung device manufactured in Korea to be cheaper there, the more expensive prices in Korea take about $200-$400 off the price if you were to get it in South Africa which takes it from hellishly expensive to reasonable price and more importantly affordable and buyable

Let me put it this way you have Ipads and you have Android Tablets (not taking in Windows8 tablets bec still new) If you want a Vanila tablet which will only allow you to do what i can do go for an Ipad, but if you want sometime more professional and something that you can customized then you need to look at an Android device, forget what all the reviews say this is one of the best Android tablets out there.
Those who say that its laggy and all that **** are idiot who are just lying, I always believe the proof is in the pudding if you have a friend who owns one just see it for yourself open as many apps as you can and see whether it lags or not.
With respect to multiscreen yes it is limited and may grow with JB but then there is no other Android tablet with that feature.
The battery life is great, yes its a plastic body and hence creeks will be there as thats more a charectristic of plastic though I have noticed non, nor do have any scratches.
But overall the build quality is good.
Again it depends what are you looking for in a tablet, but I can say one thing for sure do not go by what reviews say they are bull ****
Apparently Kprea has very genetous tax benefits for exports.
In the end it doesn't really matter since your friend is going to check the actual price and get a final confirmation.
As for bargain shopping: nothing beats the US (generally speaking) for electronics and many other stuff.

Of course. I was refering to pure purchase price. Mail ordering internationally extremely rarely works out to ones benefit in terms of bargain shopping.

Note vs ipad vs thinkpad
my experience haveing had extensive experience with 3 tablets, Ipad 2, Thinkpad slate, and Note 10.1 is:
Metal is firmer than plastic. duh but plastic is lighter than metal so all and all I dont think the construction of the Note is an issue at all besides nearly everyoen puts it in a case so who cares what the back is made out of if you have it in a case anyway I never understood the revewers obsession with this. To me the reviewers who focus overmuch on the materia used are either intentionally being biased towards apple or are completely out of touch with how most peopel use the tablet.
The thinkpad was built really well externally (my power button broke and had to be repaired) adn had a variety of very convienient ports but it was a bit bulky and a bit buggy, all and all I liked it alot and it converted me from ios to my first android product so I have very little bad to say about it.
the ipad2 is what it is, it works well for basic content consumption, my wife figured out how to use it in no time, it is boring to use and if you want to do something with it like put a movie on it or download a torrent or put a widget or send multiple things in an email your pooched it cant and wont do it. In my opinion sharing files, calendar items, pictures etc is so half baked in ios that it is laughable! Hardly any reviewers talk about how easy it is to share stuff with android again an indication that they are mostly out to lunch with how people use their devices.
Note 10.1 by far the best of the bunch, the build quality is fine I have very little creaking if any on mine and now that it is in a case it feels as solid as my wifes ipad (also in a case) only a bit lighter. Speed and lag very fast no lag I cant for the life of me understand how reviewers describe this tablet as laggy either they have a lemon or they are full of sh**. I have had no lag I have had it side by side with my wife ipad2 and have opened a bunch of apps side by side and loaded a dozen web pages and the note is always faster (as you woudl expect since it is a current gen product and the ipad 2 is not).
Mini apps, I love them there has been lots of times when I am in the middle of reading or editing a document and someone asks me to check email, or to calculate something and I just pop up the mini apps and then close it when done. sure it would be nice to have more options for apps that will multi task but all and all this is a great feature that I have used losts
Screen: sure not Hd but to be honest I really dont miss the HD option the screen looks good to me and I have no trouble watching a movie or reading a web page or email on it so I am happy to compromise the HD screen to have the spen which I like and use alot.
since moving from my ipad and iphone 3gs I have fully converted to android the note 10.1 and my SGIII work perfect together and are much more versatile than my iphone/ipad combo due to the enhanced sharing and tethering options .
Can anyone please tell that how is the internal memory divided in the note 10.1 in each of the16, 32 and 64 versions? I think it is divided in 3 parts(useable internal memory, USB and system partition)

Just remember though, if you need to return it for warranty fix you're gonna have to go back to Korea... I bought a Note 10.1 off the net and it came from from Austria, I live in Australia. It fried itself good and I had to return it for warranty, Australian repairers won't touch it under warranty as its not covered under Samsung's Australian warranty. Has to be sent back to Austria.... I sent it back to company a few days ago, I'm waiting to hear back from them.....
Got another one though, from Australia this time, as you would be surprised how you miss it... Will be eating rice and tuna for the next month or so...
