Anyone root/custom ROM a SIII from your employer? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

I'm getting a SIII for work this week and want to root it but im concerned with being able to setup the enterprise email again. Is the certificate server side? Anyone know if I will just be able to re-enter my settings?

mine works fine. some roms out there actually have the security checks removed. im using one and exchange works great.

rooted, with zero issues in exchange. Only concern and I use the word concern loosely, is that when I reboot I get the unlocked padlock symbol with the word CUSTOM on the first splash screen.

If you ever have to turn your phone in you can just Odin the stock kernel image and factory reset to remove the unlocked padlock. Hope this helps.

Use ez unlocked from the market to unlock your bootloader and that unlock screen will go away.

I wouldn't be worried about reverting back to a non rooted state. I'd worry about if your employer is ok with that.
They're providing the phone, it is their phone. While you might see this as a simple thing to do with little to worry about they may see as you altering their hardware without their permission and their perception of rooting and their reaction may be quite different from your own.

If it's their phone, don't do it. Support usually doesn't have work arounds if you have issues with the device. If it's yours, you can. Exchange usually is server side. I have full access to all my work emails after every flash I've ever done. Check with your employer to see if their email system works that way.

Got it today. Unlocked and rooted it and installed paranoid android. Got it running great and getting exchange emails no problem. I can relock if need be.

Possible and ethical are two different things. Company policy may prohibit it explicitly or implicitly. For instance, our corporation uses Good and it often will not work with Rooted phones, but even if it did work, policy forbids it. Our company only issues BlackBerry phones, and if you want to BYOD, you use Good and may not root your personal phone.

I just root mines : P but leave stock for demonstration purposes.

[Q] Change boot logo (not animation)

is there a way to change the boot logo (a stupid motorola icon) on the A2? I have seen the option in rom toolbox, but not for our device.
not impossible, but very hard
I have HTC Desire, and i wanted to drop the white HTC logo in favour of a black background variant.
long story short it was really REALLY hard, it requires FULL root. (ROOT AND S-OFF)
I wouldn't recommend trying it unless your very happy to delve into the darker parts of android customisation.

It is fully possible to do it without unlocking the bootloader. I have messed around with it and managed to turn the stock logo into a .bmp image but not vice versa. However that was all based off of information for the Atrix 4G and Photon because I was being stupid and didn't think about googling "droid bionic/droid 3/droid razr/droid 4 boot logo change."
So here it is for the Bionic. I haven't tried it but I bet it will work (for making the logo.bin, then flash it using FASTBOOT).
Got it
Awesome thanks so much I figured it out. if anyone wants it here is what I came up with!

that is how it will look on the screen. the attached bin file will look different on the computer. Anyone doing this should follow the instructions in the last post for creating it, as I did. than boot into fastboot and
Code:
fastboot flash logo.bin logo.bin
works perfectly. bin file to flash if you want mine: https://www.dropbox.com/s/yye2cnbezuwwxcu/logo.bin

Zeki 10.1 JB with play TBDG1073B - ROOT? ROMS?

Can this model be rooted similar to this post?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2207394
Do I need a custom rom to JUST root it? Is the a usable CM rom?
Crazy as it sounds could I put a gingerbread rom on that requires delegate adobe flash?
Fyi it comes with 4.1.1 which is new to me. (My HTC incredible 2 is using a gb rom).
Thanks in advance.

I just tried, and Crystal_Root.zip, fails the verification step when attempting to have it load in recovery mode.
Is there some another method for root?
Just to add, I tried Root MANY ANDROID, both "new" and "old" method, and it didn't successfully root this tablet either. :crying:
I am still hopeful that someone will come up with a way to root.
BTW, it seems to already have BusyBox installed. It might just be missing SU.
Beyond no root yet anyone else finding this bargain tablet to be flakey?

I'm finding it to be pretty solid. There are a couple of apps which seem to be not compatible with it (fancy widgets, @tv), that's the only other thing that disappoints me. If root doesn't come along soon, though, I will probably return it.
Well I'm going to see if local stores have any left so I can try to exchange.
I don't Need perfection for $100 but I do need it to turn on and be stable..
I mostly wanted root for titanium backups. Beyond that I don't NEED much more...

I managed to swap tablets today.
The new one is less buggy so far. There are no visible dead pixel (like the first one). Also there seems to be less edge bleed and better viewing angles.
I am still having problems with the screen staying black. (Reset pin and long hold power to reboot it). However I'm think Holo Launcher could be a source of this quirk. So I'm going to delete it for a day. :what:
Hopefully it keeps working and we get root eventually.

Rooted!!!!
I was able to root the factory rom. No custom bootloader or roms but i do have root access, made the tablet 100 times better! Im able to do so much more, install apps that the play store would not allow me too and all. i used the motochoper exploit and had no issues, im not responsible for any damages done if you decide to do it. The exploit is attached.

Wow, I think they officially made the stock boot animation even more horrible than before....lol. And now we get to see "Sprint" carrier label in our status bar on the left hand side.
On a positive note, Marshmallow seems a lot smoother so far.
Congrats Sprint users! Ironically, after being with Sprint 10 yrs, I dumped them for AT&T 2 days ago... lol Probably be another month til I get MM. ugh!

Edit: I can see the APN menu, but can't edit it even with my MSL.

Is there a way to reinstall the update without rooting? It's been pretty laggy for me, and every now and then I get a "system UI" error.
Went through the whole process of backing up my internal, wiping everything, flashing OI1 in odin, OTA'ing to MM, and then another factory reset, and omg so worth it. Even after installing (and running) all my normal apps its super buttery smooth. Love the new features too. Can't wait for a stock rooted kernel or systemless root

[Discussion] Galaxy S7 Edge Root Information, Status and Methods

This thread is for posting only updated information and discussion of root status and methods for the Galaxy S7.
This thread is not for:
Discussion of the merits of rooting or not rooting. Please go here for that.
Whining about Samsung and/or your carrier if your device is not rootable.
Other off-topic discussion.
Also, please do not quote the OP at any time.
Rooting method for the Exynos 8890-based global devices including SM-G935F/FD/X and Canadian SM-G935W8:
[Recovery][Exynos][G935/F/FD/X/W8] Official TWRP for hero2lte (3.0.0-1)
WARNING: This will trip Knox and potentially void your warrant. Knox cannot be reset.
Rooting method for the Snapdragon 820-based models in the US including SM-G935A/T/P/R/V/U
Main thread: Root s7 at&t g930a & g935a. There are other threads in device-specific sections.
This root method involves using an engineered boot image that doesn't trip Knox if you do it right, however the bootloader is locked so flashing custom ROMs is still not possible.
The OP here will be updated as news develops...

Update to 6.0 and keep unlock???

Have any of you with a Sprint Note 5 been able to update to Android 6.0 and keep your unlock? I got my phone unlocked today by onlineunlocks and im using it with cricket and dont want to update if im going to lose my unlock and possibly not be able to get it unlocked again.
Updating to 6.0 should have nothing to do with sim unlocking. Rooting yes. You should be fine.

I'm pretty sure you will lose lock because of the way it formats the phone partitions.
It really depends on how it was unlocked...... I'm unlocked and updated everything went well. I'm unlocked and on AT&T with LTE.
