[Discussion] Galaxy S7 Edge Root Information, Status and Methods - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Guides, News, & Discussion

This thread is for posting only updated information and discussion of root status and methods for the Galaxy S7.
This thread is not for:
Discussion of the merits of rooting or not rooting. Please go here for that.
Whining about Samsung and/or your carrier if your device is not rootable.
Other off-topic discussion.
Also, please do not quote the OP at any time.
Rooting method for the Exynos 8890-based global devices including SM-G935F/FD/X and Canadian SM-G935W8:
[Recovery][Exynos][G935/F/FD/X/W8] Official TWRP for hero2lte (3.0.0-1)
WARNING: This will trip Knox and potentially void your warrant. Knox cannot be reset.
Rooting method for the Snapdragon 820-based models in the US including SM-G935A/T/P/R/V/U
Main thread: Root s7 at&t g930a & g935a. There are other threads in device-specific sections.
This root method involves using an engineered boot image that doesn't trip Knox if you do it right, however the bootloader is locked so flashing custom ROMs is still not possible.
The OP here will be updated as news develops...

This is late, but John Legere was lying through his teeth - this was entirely a TMo decision. Got an international version (without snapdragon) which is working good. Will never by another device from TMo US.

No U.S. phones will be unlocked. When a phone is rooted, the government can't get metadata from your phone.... and they want to be able to spy into everything on your phone. The government loves Facebook, Dropbox, and any other collector of information, pics, and emails....

Anyone root/custom ROM a SIII from your employer?

I'm getting a SIII for work this week and want to root it but im concerned with being able to setup the enterprise email again. Is the certificate server side? Anyone know if I will just be able to re-enter my settings?
mine works fine. some roms out there actually have the security checks removed. im using one and exchange works great.
rooted, with zero issues in exchange. Only concern and I use the word concern loosely, is that when I reboot I get the unlocked padlock symbol with the word CUSTOM on the first splash screen.

If you ever have to turn your phone in you can just Odin the stock kernel image and factory reset to remove the unlocked padlock. Hope this helps.

I wouldn't be worried about reverting back to a non rooted state. I'd worry about if your employer is ok with that.
They're providing the phone, it is their phone. While you might see this as a simple thing to do with little to worry about they may see as you altering their hardware without their permission and their perception of rooting and their reaction may be quite different from your own.
If it's their phone, don't do it. Support usually doesn't have work arounds if you have issues with the device. If it's yours, you can. Exchange usually is server side. I have full access to all my work emails after every flash I've ever done. Check with your employer to see if their email system works that way.
Got it today. Unlocked and rooted it and installed paranoid android. Got it running great and getting exchange emails no problem. I can relock if need be.

Possible and ethical are two different things. Company policy may prohibit it explicitly or implicitly. For instance, our corporation uses Good and it often will not work with Rooted phones, but even if it did work, policy forbids it. Our company only issues BlackBerry phones, and if you want to BYOD, you use Good and may not root your personal phone.
I just root mines : P but leave stock for demonstration purposes.

What's the model number of your phone? It sounds like you have a locked bootloader and you might be SOL.
What is it that you are trying to do if you don't mind me asking?

Update to 6.0 and keep unlock???

Have any of you with a Sprint Note 5 been able to update to Android 6.0 and keep your unlock? I got my phone unlocked today by onlineunlocks and im using it with cricket and dont want to update if im going to lose my unlock and possibly not be able to get it unlocked again.
Updating to 6.0 should have nothing to do with sim unlocking. Rooting yes. You should be fine.

I'm pretty sure you will lose lock because of the way it formats the phone partitions.
It really depends on how it was unlocked...... I'm unlocked and updated everything went well. I'm unlocked and on AT&T with LTE.

G935PAVT cross bootloader, flash Chinese Version , support ALL lte band,Knox stil 0!!

http://bbs.romup.com/forum.php?mod=v...extra=page=1
This post said the Their method is applicable to all of the Samsung machine locks BL.
They are already do this, and will not share the way..
It is said that ,the G935A,G935T,G935P,G935V cross bootloader flash Chinese Version ,and support ALL band(gam, cdma, wcdma ,tdscdma, lte) ,all carrier, all
country..
And I get a S7 EDGE G935V, It unlock and flashed, following the picture
I think there are three possible ways to achieve this effect.
1.、use odin flash the eng kernel, and root. then use Z3X or other box to change the Bootloader Recognized identifier
2、Making a special data line, to achieve strong brush the other version of the firmware. (The other phone use this way..)
3、Modify other editions Samsung firmware identifier,To achieve the bypass bootloader to flash the other version.
【I think this is the highest probability】
There are many experts in the forum, I'm sure you'll find interesting
I hope someone can share the way when he successful

I am very pleased to see so many reply.
I see the reply ,and generally do some answer.
1、The phone is T-mobile,It seems that it flash the Version Version frist
2、After flash Chinese version, the bootloader is still locked
This is really strange, the S7 and S7 EDGE ,US version in the US no one cracks, but it cracked in China and they started to do Paid services..
In ShenZhen ,they flash a phone ,charge $ 20

Question Bootloader Unlock?

It's still the early days before many people get these phones. I figure I'd ask the question: Which models, if any, will be able to unlock the bootloader?
Previously, I was told the USA models (even if carrier unlocked) could not unlock the bootloader, while the S. Korean models actually *could*.

Typically, Samsung devices with Qualcomm chipsets marketed in the United States are not bootloader unlockable. Exynos on the other hand usually are. No idea if this has changed in regards to the S23.

No changes at all. The ability to unlock the device doesn't depends on the SoC but rather to the region of the device. The international variant of the phone can be unlocked without any issue

just in case none of you guys haven't figured it out the S23s are all unlocked, but are temporarily networked lock depending on how you got your phone. I know this because Samsung told me both the american samsung and the Korean Samsung also my program are it has roots for the devices.. It just don't have a way to network unlock them

Yes, they can all be rooted and more. You just have to be the one to download the firmware you want and use the method that you want this program supports Magisk root. you can also technically flash firmware as if you are using Odin

Just to clarify - approx 50% of us in the UK are unable to unlock the bootloader as Samsung chose to enable Knox Guard active (01) meaning OEM unlock does not show
Samsung is ambivalent about the issue
UK ONLY - do you have oem unlock available?
As the titles states, it'd be good to understand how many people have the normal oem unlock available in developer options. A couple of us have received various s23 models with kg status active and no oem unlock available in developer settings...
