Can this model be rooted similar to this post?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2207394
Do I need a custom rom to JUST root it? Is the a usable CM rom?
Crazy as it sounds could I put a gingerbread rom on that requires delegate adobe flash?
Fyi it comes with 4.1.1 which is new to me. (My HTC incredible 2 is using a gb rom).
Thanks in advance.

I just tried, and Crystal_Root.zip, fails the verification step when attempting to have it load in recovery mode.
Is there some another method for root?
Just to add, I tried Root MANY ANDROID, both "new" and "old" method, and it didn't successfully root this tablet either. :crying:
I am still hopeful that someone will come up with a way to root.
BTW, it seems to already have BusyBox installed. It might just be missing SU.
Beyond no root yet anyone else finding this bargain tablet to be flakey?

I'm finding it to be pretty solid. There are a couple of apps which seem to be not compatible with it (fancy widgets, @tv), that's the only other thing that disappoints me. If root doesn't come along soon, though, I will probably return it.
Well I'm going to see if local stores have any left so I can try to exchange.
I don't Need perfection for $100 but I do need it to turn on and be stable..
I mostly wanted root for titanium backups. Beyond that I don't NEED much more...

I managed to swap tablets today.
The new one is less buggy so far. There are no visible dead pixel (like the first one). Also there seems to be less edge bleed and better viewing angles.
I am still having problems with the screen staying black. (Reset pin and long hold power to reboot it). However I'm think Holo Launcher could be a source of this quirk. So I'm going to delete it for a day. :what:
Hopefully it keeps working and we get root eventually.

With regards to your query, I would like to inform that we are in process of adding new tablet models to our website. We do not recommend to do rooting on our tablets as it might cause any issue with the software of the unit.
Apologize for any inconvenience.
Thank you,

Rooted!!!!
I was able to root the factory rom. No custom bootloader or roms but i do have root access, made the tablet 100 times better! Im able to do so much more, install apps that the play store would not allow me too and all. i used the motochoper exploit and had no issues, im not responsible for any damages done if you decide to do it. The exploit is attached.

Has anyone found a custom recovery or any roms that work for this tablet? I've tried looking into it but being the novice that I am, I've yet to find anything.

Yes. You have to change a db file.
Okay, I am kinda new to this whole root manipulation thing (I did some when I had the original Tilt), but this is exactly the topic I was looking for. I want to install Applanet, but it won't let me because it was not found in the "Market." How would I take care of this. Is there a step-by-step process to do this that someone wouldn't mind sharing? Thanks!
Download the .apk on to your SD card, then follow these directions step by step:
http://forum.androidcentral.com/and...40770-ac-sideload-wonder-machine-windows.html
You also need the HTC drivers and Microsoft .Net framework, as explained in the instructions.

How do I get this .NET Framework version?
EDIT: I'm downloading the 4.0 .NET Framework now. I'll see if it works.
I'm so proud! I got it installed! I had to figure out a couple of things, and why it was giving me certain messages...but, I guess I'm smarter than I give myself credit for. LoL
(ie. I didn't have the .apk file where the SWM was located, and I thought the debugging was on, but clearly it wasn't. LoL)
So, I'm good to go for future installs of non-market apps!
Nice work, it can sometimes be a process but it's very rewarding once things start working like they should have in the first place (thanks AT&T ). Congrats!

Another way to install non market apps
forum.xda-developers. com /showpost.php?p=11487406&postcount=17
(cant post links yet, sorry)
I just tried this method and it worked pretty good. it will say it failed both times but after rebooting the phone the non market apps will download and install without a problem, without having to use swm. May not be the best way, just another way.

You move (push) an app that you want to install from your computer to your phone through the use of adb commands.
Ok, so I have been using the Sideload wonder machine to install apps I downloaded from other sources. I just used SWM to install the Applanet app. But the ATT setting on the Inspire will not let it download apps. It there a way to get around this? I don't really want to root if I don't have to. I have rooted other phones in the past, but the rooting of this phone seems a little more complicated.

The only way to be able to install apps FROM the phone that were not from the Android market is to root.
Thank you. Looks like I have some reading to do about rooting...
I wonder what happens when amazon comes out with their android app market.
That is a damn good question.
I just spent the last 2 hours reading about rooting. It really looks intense. I have rooted a lot of other phones in the past, but they all seemed so cut and dry compared to the Inspire.

I would go to Xda Home Page and click on "wiki". From there, select HTC Glacier, & then follow the downgrade guide. After successfully downgrading to Froyo, then (still in the wiki section), find the Ultimate S-off guide and follow it. You will use visionary to temp root, and gfree to get s-off, then visionary to perma root...at least that's what I did. It sounds complicated, but once you get all your files in place and installed on you pc & phone, it takes 10 minutes tops..
** First,I am all for rooting, and I am entirely comfortable doing it. However, if I were you, I would read some of peoples posts that have had issues, to make yourself familiar with the process, so that you might learn from what they did wrong. Just search the forums for downgrading..and rooting. Spend a couple hours reading, it is something I failed to do, and nearly messed up! It's only a suggestion, but it helps if you sorta understand what you are doing. I don't want you to brick your phone & think I talked you into jumping in too fast! Just realize that while I wouldn't hesitate to root a brand new one if I had it, THERE IS A CHANCE OF BRICKING YOUR DEVICE! **
Good Luck..

So, now my phone appears as if it came with JB out of the box. I have no root and it's running smooth as butter! Love, love, love it.
Can someone describe the current state of my phone? I know that sounds like a stupid question -- and it likely is -- but I can't understand how I have JB yet not rooted.
And two issues I need help resolving:
1) USB connection to my Mac. I used to have some issues on out-of-the-box ICS but Android File Transfer app solved those issues. Now that doesn't even pick up the connection.
2) Wifi Tethering. If there is a rooted solution for my setup, I need to if root guides are safe to follow with the current state of my phone.
-Obviously a newb... but lots of love and respect to the developers out here who make life so much easier for all of us normal folk.
I'm running 4.1.1 too and love it. I'm not rooted either or unlocked.
Android file transfer no longer works with the GS3. I have a Mac too and I'm not happy that I can't transfer files easily.
A lot of people on these forums will tell you about alternatives but honestly, they all suck. Android file transfer was amazing. Only thing we can hope for is a new version from Google...

i guess i can use bluetooth for the one off file transfers. But if down the road I need to get in there for more heavy lifting I'll need to fix that.
Most importantly though - no wifi tether on 4.1.1 for Verzon gs3's ?
I got the other issues fixed except google search is not returning a voice response.
Make sure to backup internal sd and ONLY use the full wipe versions in odin.

I've finally found a working method for this!
I've been searching the internet for a week trying to find a method to root this phone I got from Wind Mobile. Aparently NOTHING had worked, SuperOneClick, z4root, etc.
I went onto irc.freenode.net and the channel #oudhitsquad and they were able to help me out! And the method is so simple I'm surprised no one has known about it.
The program is called Poot. Linked at the bottom.
How to root the phone:
Run Poot. When it first runs it will say it has to install a program it gets from the market called Ministro. Just download and install it. Then re-run Poot.
It will then say it needs to download binaries, let it download and install them
When it finally gets to the main Poot screen, press the button at the top that says: Press here to poot.
It may give you an error in the log, it did to me but still worked. Now REBOOT your phone.
Once booted, install Superuser or SuperSU, whichever you want.
You should now be rooted. Download Root Validator and test.
This root method does not install Busybox, so you'll have to install it yourself. Just use Busybox Installer or something.
But there you go! Finally a working root method for this phone!
---------EDIT-----------
The program will probably give you some kind of error. Aparently this is normal, I got error 64, Jack got error 22. But it still worked. Just download Root Validator to test it.
This might seem silly, but how to you run Poot?

Like any other program, once you install it, it's in your app drawer. The file in the zip is an APK file. Transfer it to your phone and install it.

This works great for u8680 also, but i was messing with bootloader and brick my phone. Blue and pink screen
Doing this shouldn't do that. Did you only run poot and nothing else?
You can try a reset. Take the battery out and put it back in. Hold volume up and power until you see the screen with the model number.
Then choose wipe cache and wipe data.

It worked for all, but for u..............?????????.
I think u have did some mischievous thing while following the method..
Can I flash roms?
This only shows how to root.
But we can already apply custom rooms from recovery. But since there's no backup option or a default firmware we can use, if you mess up something, you're boned.

Any way to get out of this? I tried to click 'Install later' but that just forces me to set a time.
If I set a time, will I have the option to not download it? I'm completely stock and would've eventually like to try the firewater method to soff and whatnot. Not a huge deal, I'm fine with paying for Sunshine but I'd just rather not do the update if I don't have to.
Thanks.

I've just been clicking the link that's in my first screenshot then clicking the home button and that makes it go away for a bit. Might just install it because it's very annoying, unless there's another way to stop it...
Without root I don't believe it's possible to get rid of the update and the nagging. If you want to get root I would try using firewater now before your phone updates since it's free and you might get lucky and have it work for you. However there is a possibility it won't work since they changed things on some of the newer m8's. If you want to root and soff after updating your only option will be the sunshine method which costs $25. That is the only method that works on 4.4.3 as of now.
I ended up with the same thing this morning. I am already rooted and S-off and have the newest 4.4.3 firmware. I think if you are rooted you can use TBU or something and rename a couple of files that will stop the Ota. Here is a link to a thread that might be helpful if you get rooted. http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-htc-one-m8/general/block-ota-updates-t2871520
