Hi all
i want to do this.
1.unlock
2.install CWM
3.apply root and kernels
4.install stock recovery
5.re-lock
6.done
[fastboot oem lock] is work??
or anyother way to re-lock??

asus says there is no way to relock but we will see if the devs here cant figure something out

You CAN NOT Relock. The prime devs worked on it for months, and couldn't get anything working. If you decide to unlock you void your warranty and no longer get official ota's. You do get access to custom roms though.

Correct. The only reason I would recommend unlocking, is so that you can install a custom rom. If you do not want to install a custom rom you shouldn't unlock.

Can you still install stock firmware with adb/vipermod using blob files?

you can update, however not by ota. you update by flashing roms that are updated.

There may not be a way (yet) of relocking the bootloader, but there should be a way of preventing ASUS from logging the serial. From the decompiled unlock tool, the tool is sending something to https://mdm.asus.com/DMServer/DeviceState. However, that may not matter. In a previous thread about this (for the Transformer Prime), one developer found that the result returned from the ASUS server is stored in a variable that's never used

I doubt they blacklist it, they did after all provide the tool. Of course, they do say they won't officially support if you do unlock, but that doesn't necessarily mean they wouldn't if you asked them.

AFAIK the unlock tool requires an internet connection, this is for the purpose of notifying ASUS on what tablets have been unlocled

Check up with the Prime forum - they have much more experience with this issue. AFAIK, unlocking means your on your own and ASUS means it.

Is there a way to obtain root without an unlock? Sorry new to this game still reading
I have been enjoying the stock asus rom for now and just want root access but don't feel voiding the warranty less than 24 hours after buying it from best buy.
Really want to try the 6 axis controller for some emulating and who wouldnt love some overclocking (from what i have read this is possible on stock kernel)

SOMEHOW, the "Device is UnLocked" has disappeared from boot screen
As I mentioned here just earlier today (or the full thread here), the "Device is UnLocked" has vanished from my boot screen. The screen that first shows up after you start your TF300.
I had gone through A LOT the past couple of days trying to UN-BRICK my device. Once I fixed my TF300, the "Device is UnLocked" is no longer in the upper left-hand corner anymore.
I have no clue what I did, or even if it's really "Locked" again. All I know is that it's gone. I think I might have accidentally tweaked something that might have just turned off the actual "Device is UnLocked" text. But I don't know...

Preparing for Jelly Bean Update

Hey Everyone, I'm coming from a Asus Transformer tf300 , and my device was rooted, and didn't have bootloader unlocked....when receiving the OTA for Jelly Bean, I was under the impression that Using Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper would make everything smooth and dandy to take the OTA and still be rooted by restoring at after the update.... Well Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper worked but only half way, and what I mean by that is that the device was rooted but root permission was not given so it was pretty much no point in being rooted, and some say it was because an app called Supersu was not installed prior to the update and when the back up was made, so that app + Superuser had to be present and some people obtained their full root that way....But my point for this thread is to figure out before hand what methods we will take on the tf700 so that many wont be stuck without root when it happens.....I never was able to get full root or unroot or do anything, I ended up selling my tf300 and now have a tf700 so just taking precautions cuz I would love Jelly Bean on here but also would love root...... any suggestions?

I think the best way to prepare for Jellybean is to let some others do it first and see how it goes for them. Maybe we'll be fine, maybe we'll need the supersu trick, maybe we'll need something else entirely. At this point, we simply cant say. As such, better to be cautious.
I've been reading some of the 300 threads on the JB update, and it looks like some people are having issues with their custom recoveries as well. Until there's a full understanding of the consequences of updating, I think those who are on anything other than unrooted locked stock should hold off unless they want to play guinea pig.

The update will likely be posted as a cwm flashable ROM very shortly before or after it is available via ota dont worry you can find it here!

What do you think is more feasible? Stay stock and not root and wait for jelly bean and update to it, then see if a way to root is found for jelly bean? Or root now, and hope there is a way found to carry that root on to Jelly bean eventually? Cuz I know the jelly bean update was very sneaky on the tf300, I didnt even know it was updating until it was already downloaded and ready to be installed, and it only asks a few times before automatically installing it.....so risks are involved in both.....hhmmmmmmm

I would say root now, use OTA rootkeeper to protect root and that way when you get the JB OTA you can just use OTA rootkeeper to restore root.

That's well and good for people who are unlocked, but not for people who are locked and just rooted. I dont see a need to really unlock at this point. I will unlock it when I start deving for it in a few days though

I'm rooted but not unlocked. I'll be using the SuperSU trick to confirm that it works for us. I don't plan on any unlocking until I'm safely updated.

Let us know if it works.....There was a way to fix the root permissions that they were sayin in the tf300 forum, but it involved alot of adb shell commands and pushing files, and me not being familiar with adb attempted it but wasn't able to execute all the commands, so even if it doesn't work there would be hope! (for people who are good with adb any way) :highfive:

So being rooted and unlocked, I will probably have to wait until someone creates a Rom from the jelly bean ota correct?

Yes, you need SU and Voodoo working in conjunction after a root to maintain it. I rooted but didn't unlock because the rom scene isn't developed yet. I will be updating to JB as soon as possible and voodoo will hopefully preserve my root (It always did on my tf300 and on my htc amaze).
Any reason to believe it would not?

Yes, because several people including myself, kept root but lost our root permissions when using voodoo......it was later found out to have both root and root permissions saved is to download an app called Supersu, and have that and Superuser and also in superuser make sure in the setting that OTA Restore is checked off in order for it to work.....that method worked for most people.....This only happened with the Jelly Bean OTA, every other time it worked like a charm.....

Right as being unlocked prevents you from receiving the ota. I don't think you'd have to wait long though. Someone will surely post theirs right away.

Same situation .. I have my TF700 root, unlock and installed TWRP ... I must wait for a ROM upload here ..

This is my plan, too, except I'm not planning to unlock the TF700 after JB unless it's the only way to stabilize it, like it was with the TF201 after ICS. The stock ROM with root is fine for me if it is stable.

You are right PolishPoet, I meant unlocked bootloader not rooted. Once the device is updated on a rooted device, it just unroots it, and you will have to root again.

I'm stock at the moment. Does it make more sense to stay stock until JB then root, or to root and try to keep it through the JB upgrade? My root needs aren't urgent.

So far there's no indication rooting under JB will be easy, so better root your tablet first and follow the SuperSU guidelines..

Ok, so, I would like to have some input on the BEST way to keep root and/or unlock before taking the upcoming JB update.
Had a TF300, and on their forums, best advice was to root BEFORE JB ugrade, utilizing Voodoo OTA rootkeeper to keep root.
But, what I did not catch was, if you unlock boot loader, will the device still get the OTA to JB?
Because, Asus unlock tool only works on ICS. So, do I wait to unlock till after JB, and hope Asus provides JB unlock tool?
Or do it before JB upgrade, but after I get notification of Asus Firmware Upgrade?

Haha I was actually in the process of rooting/unlocking and after reading this post, I think i'm going to hold off until my buddy here gets his questions answered. Good questions to ask.

So, If the TF300 forums are indicitive of what we should do, root before JB is THE only way to do root...can NOt be done after JB.

as long as you have a stock recovery then you should be fine. its when you flash a modded recovery that makes it a little icky. make sure you have voodoo to retain root or you will lose root (most cases) and if you have a unlocked bootloader then make sure you have stock recovery.

The way things have always worked on my other devices is that its best to root and unlock now because someone will have a rooted version of the update ready to flash in no time. We've already got at least one great and committed developer (Zeus) and there are more waiting for Jellybean to drop. Custom roms are so much better than stock.

If you unlock you will not receive the OTA update regardless. If you download and flash it won't you brick your device as once unlocked any ASUS builds/updates brick?

If rooted (not unlocked), and used Titanium to Freeze apps will we need to un-freeze the apps to OTA JB?

If I was going to take the ota I would completely wipe/factory reset first just like flashing any other rom.

If you want to use the OTA update than my best advice is to stay with the stock firmware, no root and no unlock. OTA updates with rooted devices are like the lottery could work for one user and don't work for another and mostly because after you root the device you will start messing with system filles, you will try various tweaks, etc.
As for the Asus Unlock Tool it seems that is working well on Jelly Bean, at least for the TF300 device.So imo you have this options:
1) Stay stock and without rooting so you will get OTAs just fine ( and have no guarantee that you can root after JB update)
2) Stay stock but root your device and pray that OTA update and Root keeper will work just fine
3) Unlock and root/install a custom rom now then wait until Asus will upload JB firmware on their site (in this case you need to manually install JB but you don't need to worry about rooting because with an unlocked device rooting is working on JB.
PS: To be honest i find this kind of threads a bit pointless because we don't have an ETA for Jelly Bean so maybe when this come out we already have a working root method for JB.

As long as ASUS releases Source Code and the Full ROM ZIP shortly after the OTA hits the device.
You can Unlock and root now because there will be a JB ROM with Root very soon.
Yes with Unlock and Root you don't get OTA, but you can still flash the Full-ROM ZIP from ASUS as soon as they release it.
And I'm sure there will be a rooted stock ROM not a day after the Full-ROM and Source Code is available.
Thats why I choosed ASUS Tablet!

Bit confused what to do. I have brand new TF700T ICS 4.0.3 and I think I would benefit with rooted device. But what to do first? Update to JB and then root or root and update? I read this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1833212 so I would like to use the NvFlash before I start flashing... Is there any catch?

You first have to decide if you want to void your manufacturer warranty by unlocking the boot loader (so that you can install custom ROMs). You do not need to unlock the boot loader if you only want to root it.
However, once you upgrade to JellyBean, you won't be able to install NVFlash any more, so if you are planning to unlock it in the near future, you should seriously consider doing it now, and then install NVFlash.
If you decide to unlock, there's no problem in rooting it afterwards. If you decide NOT to unlock, but still want to root, you should do so BEFORE you upgrade to JellyBean, as there's currently no way to root a JellyBean installation on the TF700 (if you install JellyBean without root, you'll have to downgrade to ICS to root, and then upgrade to JellyBean again).
As you can see, it all depends on what you want to do with your device - now and in the future. There's no way to know if it'll be possible in the future to install NVFlash on a JB installation, but once you have installed JB, you CANNOT install NVFlash - not even if you roll back to ICS. So you have to decide if you want NVFlash or not, and if so, you need to unlock it while on ICS and proceed from there.

If you want to keep the locked bootloader and warranty: First, root it. Look for the tutorial here in the Forum, it's very easy, should be something like "Root with debugfs".
Then, download OTA Rootkeeper from the Market (Google Play). Use it to protect your root.
Afterwards, you can either try the normal OTA Update (Didn't work for me, too big of a jump), or follow the following tutorial to update from one revision to the next. (So you've gotta update around 4-5 times in total to get to the newest JB revision).

So I see.
Option 1) Rooted only and keep warranty - can't flash it.
Option 2) Root and unlock, lost warranty but be able to flash it. For this I need unlock the bootloader. And I would need to unlock to bootloader to install NvFlash, is it right?
What will be your recommendation? Do I need to flash it? The use would be recreational (internet/video/games) and travel laptop.

I personally didn't flash mine, at the moment I just don't need it. Should be fine for you to, why don't you try root & locked bootloader first?
You can always unlock the bootloader later on, but you can't "relock" it

The only reason why I would be considering to unlock it NOW is the NvFlash. Because I definitely want to update to JB.

Well you could always just use it for a day or two before you risk blowing it up.
Any manufacturing problems with it?
How familiar with the ins-outs of rooting\flashing are you?
If relatively new read then read some more.
The chances of a brick are low...then again you never know for sure.

Then I installed JB OTA no issues.
But now OTA Rootkeeper is telling me that I'm not rooted??!! What is going on?

Did you actually backup your root using OTA Rootkeeper?

Did you protect the root with OTA Rootkeeper? Otherwise you just lost it....
You should be able to downgrade to ICS and root again following this:

So I downgraded already twice, run the OTA Rootkeeper, got the message that SU protected, run the JB update, run the OTA Rootkeeper again and no protected SU available... Where am I doing it wrong?

Didn't need to because the OTA came on always automatically as soon as I rebooted. So I let it run.

I think I'm doing something wrong with the OTA Rootkeeper because it will not give me option to temp un-root...

Do you have Superuser installed? If not, try to install it from the Market, it will show you if you really got root.
From my perspective it sounds like you don't actually have root or just no application to control root.

I was browsing through the TF700 forums but i can't seem to find how to root my Asus Transformer Pad Infinity TF700T on Jelly Bean 4.1.1 build JRO03C.WW_epad-10.4.4.23-20121127, all i managed to find was how to root it on ICS and some other things that required rooting to be done or programs working only for ICS??
Can someone give me steps to easily and safely root that build?

There is currently no way to root the TF700 on JB, but you can downgrade to ICS, get root, use OTA Rootkeeper, and upgrade to JB using dlpkgfile files. Use the search function, there is a thread that explains the details how to do it.

Just got my TF700 yesterday and I was looking for this. Thank you! You don't need to be unlocked or anything to do this do you? You just need to upgrade to 4.1.1 and then follow the steps?

You can't root using this method. This method is only for unlocked device where you use fastboot to flash custom recovery (TWRP) then use twrp to gain root either through flashing SuperSu or custom rom. If you device is locked, you need to DOWNGRADE back to ICS version .30 (if you already upgraded to JB) then follow this to root:

After rooted on ICS, then install SuperSU and Voodoo OTA Root Keeper, then run SuperSU, then OTA Root Keeper and save your root, then upgrade to JB, then restore root using OTA Root Kepper.

This method is only for UNLOCKED bootloader. If you have locked bootloader, you need to downgrade back to ICS version .30 then use root tool to root.

Ok, so you do absolutely NEED to unlock the device through the Asus unlock tool? The only thing that I am worried about is the fact that as soon as I use the unlock tool that Asus basically has me by my manhood and I couldn't undo it if I really needed to. Are there any other ways to unlock the TF700? Or are there any ways to gain root without unlocking first?

Yes, you can root without unlocking, but root will not help you much with the Asus I/O performance issue. If you don't want to unlock, just downgrade back to ICS (this is the only way to root without unlocking). The only downside with unlocking is it will void your warranty, but the upside is huge.

So it seems that to gain better performance unlocking is a must? Could I fix the I/O issues by skipping the unlock process, gaining root, and then flashing a custom ROM? Or is unlocking the only way? If so, why does unlocking allow us to fix the I/O issue/just fix it??

Yes, Unlocking is not fixing I/O issue, but it allows you to flash custom rom and kernel or data2sd mod, which eliminated I/O issue to none noticable. There is NO WAY to flash custom rom WITHOUT unlocking. The most with just root is you able to install browser2ram which help only with your browser (stock/chrome).

Ahhhh, ok so unlocking allows one to address the I/O issues by allowing one to flash the custom ROMs. Looks like I'll be unlocking my TF700 soon. Is the Asus unlock tool the only way to unlock the TF700?

You got it! Yes, Asus unlock tool is the only way to unlock, and it's very safe, either it works or it doesn't. There are issues with Asus server, so consider you are luck if it works the first time.
